Themepark, like Skyrim without the freedom and the combat, not sure what that leaves apart from a IP

I've read/heard from people that have played the game that the combat is very Skyrim like. Just with a limited hotbar. Mouse buttons for each hand. Hold mouse button to build up a power hit using stamina.

Skyrim was pointed in the right direction, no need to take steps backwards, pigeonhold classes, obviously a downgrade in graphics...sorry now I'm just being negative. I'll just STFU and go back to Skyrim, my bad.

Dec 22 2011 on SWTOR so technically GW2 takes the cake but, I would say I wasn't very impressed with either... equally. Not that they weren't good games or even average but, it really is time for something new, I mean, I've got Bridges that need to be used, Sandy Bridges and Ivy Bridges that need to be taken advantage of.

Thanks guys. I think maybe hearing it from other people just might do the trick so this is very appreciated. Then again, more stubborn people might feel ambushed :O

I'm pretty sure she already has peripherals etc... She IS sticking with the asus case (I think thats what she likes most about the PC). I'll go ahead and pass on the whole 'go make me a sammich"

The whole issue of the refund could suck though. Having to wait up to 2 weeks for anything is never awesome.

Happy Holidays my fellow enthusiasts, how you all doing?

I'm hoping you all can nerd rage and help me with a little problem I have here. I've got yet another friend who has recently bought a computer from best buy. I believe it is this model:

http://reviews.bestbuy.com/3545/5555478/asus-essentio-desktop-8gb-memory-1tb-hard-drive-reviews/reviews.htm

It cost my friend roughly $800 - I'm assuming this doesn't include sales tax. My friend then continued on to buy a replacement video card, the AMD 7770 and an unknown corsair 700W power supply.

The bottom line: I was trying to convince my friend that with basically $900 she could assemble a much better PC herself. Can I get a little support here, I don't want her to get the short end of the stick as I've seen so many friends down that path, purchasing store bought PC's only to have it backfire in their face. All the items were bought in the last 24hrs so i'm thinking that returning everything shouldn't be a problem.

She mostly plays MMO's but would like her PC to be capable of running the most graphic intensive games out today at decent framerates.

For some unknown reason she thinks made a great purchase, I would like us to turn her from the dark side!

Yeah I agree with several others here. I get a GW2 vibe from a lot of what they say. I really do not get a Elder Scrolls vibe from anything beyond the setting of the game.

Most of the things that draw me to Elder Scrolls games and suck up hundreds of my hours.. Do not appear to exist in this title.

When you start mashing in things like class based gameplay, group oriented dungeons, pvp areas... None of that is ES at all and all of it has already been done many times.

So an elder scrolls mmo should have no pvp or group content then? Wouldnt that just be TES:VI then tho?

After watching that 10 minute trailer that put out for the game I was literally laughing in my chair. Watching scenes where it was taking 5+ people to take down things like a Flame Atronach was just plain silly to me. Dungeons from all the other ES titles were a very special experience.. Creeping through them slowly, watching for traps, stealth takedowns, epic battles against superior odds. Then you watch that video and see people bunny hopping about.. Nothing during those 10 minutes of footage made it look different over anything else we have. It looked just like a WOW/SWTOR dungeon zerg.

If what they have shown us so far.... Is what the game is going to be like.. Its going to be another 2-3 month speed bump title for the majority of the people that play it.

As far as I knew, bethesda had nothing to do with the development of TESO. That ofcourse leads me to think is just a branding scam seeing as how it's been pointed out a bunch of times how the lore has been butchered in order to make race / map locations easier.

I wasn't impressed with the gameplay video either and the only thing I hope for at this point is that they don't pull a SWTOR on me I.E. Delay or cancel another single player RPG installment in favor of attempting to get more sales from their online title.

That gameplay video was pretty disturbing actually. I felt like I was being scammed when they kept showing the melee characters in the Skyrim horned helmet. I'm looking for a longterm mmo home, this isn't it.

I finished up a case in court recently. The judge threw out the corporations TOS and they were forced to pay me. A TOS / EULA are not law nor contracts. That said, it is still possible for a company to protect themselves to a certain degree using either. Either way, once you can prove an injured / violated party, you are golden.

Usually you'll find those terms and agreements irrelevant unless the user / customer has broken the LAW (this includes violating a companys rights, as in the case of Hotz).

TOS' agreement types that state something like "subject to change without notice" actually negates the entire reason for an agreement. These are also very different from contracts and, contracts cannot be subject to change without notice so... figure it out.

Bottom line: You might be able to get a refund on remaining unused subscription time because of the drastic change in the service, providing you have already attempted to negotiate a refund with the company and have been denied or ignored.

+ Most likely it's not financially worth your time to persue this but, if you have the time then sure, might as well. Ironically people here might tell you it's a waste of time, while wasting time telling you it's a waste of time, unlike you though, they have no potential of any financial gain, they're just wasting time.

I was at the point where I would have accepted WOW with lightsabers, they barely delivered... if that.
It's like steam buy you can't buy anything right?

Hello World.

You act like it's your first time out of the basement. You went to a big box retailer... and stuff cost MSRP. Don't be surprised when the sun comes out tomorrow.

What!

Umm what about dec. 21 2012? Or has my attempt at sarcasm also been lost in the void?

Just took this photo today @ best buy. Thought it was funny considering the game is going FTP soon, enjoy!

It's definitely not underrated on this site.  I've tried it on two separate occasions and the core of the game is tragically flawed:

1) Horrible art direction.  Just really, really bad art and animations.

2) Boring combat.  Inexcusable really

3) No full respecs.  Replayability to them means rerolling.

4) Horrible story

It's a poor mans Titan Quest which was a poor mans D2.

I don't know, I really liked Titan Quest. I wouldn't say D2 was all that much better.

Now if mmorpg's actually made interacting with massive amounts of people an an actual option... Until then it might as well be private NWN servers. How many party members in a random instance again?

Which one is more likely:

  • That no "huge market" exists for sandbox MMOs or...
  • ...every single major developer hasn't noticed the elephant in the room.

Occam's razor is a friend.

Real life is the biggest sandbox ever. If people didn't want to play they have pleanty of option to get out. Seeing as the worlds population is growing, I think maybe... there could be a virtual market for it too.

That's right CCP!!! Way to go!

Lets make a FPS and develop it for the PS3.

Lets completely ignore the fact that Eve players are on PC

Lets ignore all the suggestion posts of Eve evolving into Ground based Fps/Vehicle combat over planetary control.

Last I checked the 300-400k accounts that give CCP money are all on PC, The people that buy the books, the mechandise and goto your stupid fanfest are all on PC.

This game even if it was mediocre would have sold like hotcakes ON PC!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I dont know who makes the decisions over there at CCP but not delivering this game to their PC customer base is pure stupidity!!!!!!!!!!

./rant over

Probably 18039% accurate but i'll accept that this may only be 100% accurate.

Didn't they even delay or bounce WoD for this game?

Doesn't matter anyway. I'm sure that EVE fans will go buy the PS3 just to play this game.. ... .... ...or not

Thanks for sharing. I've been mildly curious about what SWTOR has in mind, still being a starwars fan in general. It's just a shame, such a shame :(

I mean really I know what a beta is, infact it's when the core game is built and the final touches are going on the game. So really nothing much is going to change other than polish and a few things added here or there. However...

However nothing. This thread ended right there, because apparently you actually don't know what a beta is, but you're going to prattle on as if you did.

Beta phase, in a software development phase, has little to do with final touches. A Beta can reveal incredible large problems especially when related to networks or a grand number of hardware configurations it will be presented to. Also beta tends to expose a piece of software outside of a development team, usually to a closed or open public for feedback and appreciation. It has little to do with polish.

Sometimes a Beta can last years with much software, or even regress it into a state that requires rebuilding entire sections of code. A beta can, in rare cases, scrap a project entirely depending on funds. For a game as large as many MMOs, a beta is a unique phase in development as it puts the major networking elements into practice for monitoring, something not easily simulated in-house. Final touches? A networking team could only be so lucky to view a beta as a final touch.

There is no software nor networking program that can truly show what that network can do in a real life topography. Many times networks overestimate, and still find themselves unable to handle the load. From a technical viewpoint, months of efforts can be undone by hardware driver support from manufacturers who though working closely with a dev team (or not at all in smaller games) can still find themselves unable to properly render, initialize, or support a feature on a system.

As such a beta is far from a polishing of code, it is in itself another phase of the cooking process. If we were baking a cake, you're comparing a beta as the addition of frosting, when for many MMOs, the cake has just been put into the oven. It might still be in the oven when the game is released in the case of a poor game or tight production schedule.

You're belittling beta due to a severe lack of understanding of what it is.

That's why you're sick of it. Expectations. Your expectations of beta aren't being met because you don't quite understand what it is. You don't quite know what a developer requires, or what kind of publishing entanglements are a part of it. You have no idea what the development cycles are, or how problems are being handled on the application or network layer, or how a developer is communicating with development teams from hardware manufacturers around the world. You don't know. You don't care. You just want to eat cake.

....and the thread goes on with 1 more post.

I believe he is referring to gameplay mechanics, not backend coding. Lets not disolve into metaphors here, we can speak plainly. GW2 wasn't about to add defined roles, SWTOR wasn't going to add a space sim and WOW wasn't going to add mechs with lasers.

Core gameplay rarely changes from beta to retail release. They don't usually scrap the main idea the game is built upon for another entirely different idea.

Truthfully I have no clue what programming expectations are from beta to release. I've never run into a beta that completely refocused core game design though, I would love to hear of an example.

Interesting.

I'm just watching the GW2 events unfold while on the sidelines. Seems similar to SWTOR in the way that it's took forever for any sort of negative commenting to become prevalient.

I wonder if it truly is a better game overall.

I'm sure most people here have thousands of games like myself, of them all, Age of Wonders: Shadow Magic is the most and longest played and easily my favortite.

Oh hey there! lol I remember you too and so does Andronicus oh and Drudge.

They are attempting a business strategy. It didn't work on the OP and they lost 2 sales, that simple. We will never know how much they gained by employing this tactic though, I'd love to see those stats.
