This should do the trick.

Not to be clichè but that was perfect.

[mod edit] . You guys really LOVE GW2, so much so that it's making me think I should try it.

I swear it's like you guys had a second Christmas or something. I only have one small problem, the only consistant thing I read or hear is that combat is AWESOME. That's it really, nothing else of note. Then again, I tend to skim when I read. Anyway can I get a GW2 fanboy [mod edit]   point me to where I can find the most informational post about this game.

Truth is, if the only improvement is jerky combat then [mod edit] I only have one more shit game in me before I have to quit MMO's forever.

Alternatively I have to admit, after watching some of the beta vids on the Tube it looks 1million times better then swtor, [mod edit]

I thought stars were based purely on how often you post.  I've never noticed a reputation system.

No, i got first warning and now i lost 2 stars over night

That's funny, not that you lost two stars, but because I lost half a star defending GW2 by pointing out someone who created a thread to troll the GW2 subforum lol

NEVER call out a troll! NEVAR! Trolls are the people that bring the most to MMORPG.com's table. Without them this site would be nothing.

True story. I could fill a planatarium with the stars lost from calling out obvious trolls.

BTW I really like your quote lol

I find that HILARIOUS, mostly likely because of this thread you'll lose the rest of your stars, you may even be suspended lol

I'm too sleepy to check myself but am I right in assuming you didn't express your dissatisfaction in a contructive manner? Not that you should.

EA going belly up? Looks like an early Christmas kids :D

If they get it cheap enough they could gut it and piece out all those ip's?

I'm still looking forward to this game. Basically I'm only playing Skyrim and with no Co-op it's kind of bitter sweet. On the other hand this single player must be online bullshit is pissing me off. I thought all the statistical facts proved otherwise. I'd really like someone to try and hack my lan game.

Anyway, yep pretty much feel like the OP on this one. Not much else out there giving me glossy eyes.

I expect it to be a highly polished game based on fundamentally uninteresting game mechanics.

If you rolled it, it couldn't be more blunt. Here's hoping it'll be like the difference between sc1 and sc2.

Intriguing question, but rather too broad. Class selection depends as much upon the genre as it does the setting. A fantasy-based game in a dystopian society will, by necessity, feature a unique slew of classes from a sci-fi one upon a thriving extraterrestrial colony.

I, for example, would adore seeing more diplomatic classes come to the fore (the "Envoy" for those favoring political resolutions, the "Spy" for those inclined to a more underhanded approach), yet they would hardly mesh within the constraints of your standard sword-and-board fantasy fare.

Still, save you specify otherwise, I'll run with the idea that we're discussing a hypothetical MMO in a fantasy universe, as everyone else appears to, perhaps occupied with the typical elf-dwarf-human-orc races all in relatively low-tech societies...

TRAPPER - a common subset of skills for the "Ranger" classes, typically of the crowd-control variety (temporary immobilization and the like), I'd prefer seeing a class built exclusively around this archetype, such that combat situations could be handled entirely without the Trapper present. Imagine a wide range of traps, from snares (to trap, hold, immobilize, paralyze or simply stun), nooses (to strangle or outright kill), pits (to trap or damage) and so forth, all with a wide variety of affects. In the real-world no one pulls out a bear-trap in the midst of a pitched battle, no more than soldiers at war will chuck mines at one another. Traps are pre-planned offenses or defenses and the Trapper would use them as such. In short, it is a tactical class, one who studies their enemy, lays the appropriate traps, baits them (perhaps via their own actions) and either benefits or fails as a result.

HYPNOTIST - essentially a pet-class without pets, I suppose, utilizing their ability to control other targets as their weapons. Whether NPCs or mobs, perhaps even other players (if you're particularly adroit) the Hypnotist would employ a wide variety of skills to manipulate them into doing their bidding: attacking other characters (hypnotize a guard to attack the man he's guarding; hypnotize a mother bear to kill it's cub), carrying out stealth missions on their behalf (hypnotize a thief to steal something; hypnotize a mouse to infiltrate and scout a camp) or merely rid themself of an obstacle (hypnotize a caravan leader to give them free travel to their desired destination; hypnotize a troll to destroy a wall; hypnotize a goblin to throw itself over a cliff). At all times, and this I cannot stress enough, the Hypnotist should be limited by their level (as to what can be controlled) and proximity, such that the element of personal danger remains. This would be particularly satisfying in PvP, seizing hold, even just momentarily, of an enemy combatant to strike down their healer, then breaking away before someone notices you. Perhaps even hypnotizing your own allies to save them... or yourself.

SOULSUCKER - inspired by Gau of Final Fantasy VI, it is a class that derives its power from their fallen enemies. The Soulsucker would be, perhaps, the first class ever to actually lend some credence to that oldest of RPG tropes: beginning their life by slaying rats. Kill a dozen of the vermin and you absorb their souls, imbuing you with their power and some unique skills. Could be transformative in effect, such that you become a rat and fight as one, or it could be more MegaMan-ish in effect. In either case, you have the choice to continue slaying rats, gathering more of their souls and accumulating ever more power in the process (although, perhaps, the systems should include some sort of cap, such that you cannot acquire the power of a billion rat souls) or moving on to absorb something greater. The possibility should exist to absorb the soul of anything you kill, from the ignoble rat to the greatest of dragons, forcing the Soulsucker to think tactically: do you want to charge into that room of armed soldiers as a swift and deadly cougar or a brutal orc? Could you fit through that tunnel (if the power is transformative) as a mammoth? Is it better to pursue the souls of  a thousand dead mages or a single beholder?

APOTHECARY - a slightly misleading title, as it has nothing to do with potions, but rather with what those potions were intended to avail: the curing of disease. In this case, the Apothecary class wields a variety of customizable, evolvable viruses or bacteria to fight with. The class would begin with a simple bacterium allowing them to attack simple creatures and kill them slowly (Damage-over-Time) and, as they level, obtain the opportunity to acquire new bacteria/viruses that have unique affects. Consider one that paralyzes anyone who inhales it in paroxysms of agony, another that chews through their armor, one that rapidly devours the flesh of organic creatures, another that could permanently blind an enemy or cause them to suffocate on their own fluids... the possiblities are endless. Allow the Apothecary to evolve their chosen weapons with a little care and you achieve a system where their power is limited only by the developer's imagination: that simple slow damage-over-time bacteria they began with, properly cultured, might one day become a veritable plague.

As one of your classes, staphanrb, is less an actual "class" than it is a mere type of weapon-user (after all, you could have a spear-throwing cleric just as easily as a spear throwing warrior or ranger), I'd also like to throw out a few weapons I'd love to see highlighted more often:

* Whips - a weapon allowing for mid-range combat with either devastatingly painful affects and mild damage (leather and the like), heavy damage and bleeding (chain or razor) or damage-over-time (wire for strangling or snaring affects)

* Lances - a primarily mounted-combat instrument (which should entail a class in and of itself, the mounted-knight who could ride a variety of different creatures and wield distinct weapons on such... getting off point here) that would function equally well as a long-to-mid-range stabbing one.

* Shields - typically associated with defense, and only nominally acknowledged otherwise with skills such as "Shield Bash" or the like, I'd prefer a class designed around them; using one in each hand for massive defensive capabilities, lots of knockdowns, stuns and the like, while spiked shields (or whatnot) would allow for a more melee-oriented build.

Pretty much this. I'd like to see the "psychic" make a comeback too. More like the D&D psionic. Maybe not the dual wield shield idea but the single shield needs some lovin for sure.

Thanks for the clarification Quiz.

Your buddie will probably get a better deal on the GFX card if he waits a little while, now is not the best time to buy a card.

Once Nvidias 600 serie is out it will probably drop AMDs prices a little too so no matter what brand he prefer waiting is the best choice unless he can get a great deal on a sale.

AMD's price cuts have already happened:

http://www.mmorpg.com/discussion2.cfm/thread/347270/AMD-cuts-prices-on-the-overpriced-half-of-their-Southern-Islands-lineup.html

If you're looking for Nvidia to undercut AMD prices and force AMD to respond, when's the last time that ever happened with sub-$500 cards?

I suppose that you could argue that the GTX 460 filled a hole in AMD's lineup, which made it a good value at launch if that was your budget, but it was in line with the prices on AMD's other cards, and merely hit a performance level where AMD didn't have a competitor other than low-volume severe salvage parts.  But that didn't force price cuts on a Radeon HD 5770 or 5850, the cards that the GTX 460 was between.

And before that?  It's been long enough that I don't even remember.  You'd surely have to go back to when Nvidia was using four digit numbers on their cards rather than three digits.

Now, if you're arguing that Nvidia will launch cards at prices in line with AMD's, and AMD will then cut prices to undercut Nvidia, I don't see that happening for at least a few months.  There's no sense in undercutting Nvidia prices if they don't have very many cards to sell.  Eventually Nvidia will be competitive, and cards may then start their slow decline in prices, but that's months away.

Let me see if I understand this. There is no reason to buy Nvidia over AMD unless I want S3D or some rare eye candy PhysX?

I'll Always need more games. I doubt Archage is going to be THAT good.

Dudes over @ Bioware make me laugh. No seriously where is the Timeline? Ok "Galactic History" Might be the trend of swtor, start something and then never finish it.

I used to hope the game would tank but I want it to survive, at least long enough for them to finish the Timeli-Galactic History series.

yeah the built-in soundcards today are miles ahead of what we had back in the days. Albeit a dedicated soundcard may net you 3-5 fps in certain games. In theory, the burden on the cpu is lessened with a dedicated soundcard. I would assume that now-a-days cpus are powerful enough to be able to handle double duty with no hesitation.

Full disclosure, I have an external Focusrite audio interface and saw a miniscule fps increase when compared to my internal soundcard.

How was the actual quality of sound in comparison?

To sum it up, the leveling process is broken. It should be redesigned, I dont know how but obviously grinding levels is just as rewarding as fast tracked leveling, which is to say not very rewarding at all.

Levels and new abilities are hand in hand, obviously no one likes just the level number, we want the goodies that come with it. The brand new or significantly upgraded goodies. Maybe having a huge array of abilities that have no direct linear progression over another and making combat more dynamic might fix this.

So in short I guess I'm saying that levels and skills should be more or less equalized. So progression should make a character more capable but not necessarily more powerful? I don't know if that's even practical. Just rereading what I wrote sounds like horseshit.

All I know is that if I have to start another game in scrub gear like a pauper, it's an uninstall.

That's... kinda neat lol

Makes me want to try some league matches today.

Not hopeful but I've been watching it. I prefer to just read the Salvatore books, to be honest, I'm not even much of a gamer lately. Reinstalled NWN Diamond and just picked up saints row: the thrid. Would really love an awesome D&D game again though. NWN has completely dated graphics since release lol NWN2 wasn't the same calibur and SOZ it's best exp was too short and had game mechanic issues.

Still think these games are focusing on the wrong elements.

Huh, what's a DDO and where is ebberon? Must be a lost latrine hole in the forgotten realms.

Budget is roughly $2000

Not sure what I want, just know I need an upgrade since a certain shipping company completely destroyed one of my machines. I'll be using it for some gaming /w fraps (Skyrim and the like) and maybe some video editing.

Right now I'm using 22's but I'm still considering a larger screen, maybe 42 but I'm pretty sure that puts me into getting a 1080p Tv and then, probably a 7900series or equal card(s).

Lastly, I'm a patient man so I can wait a while, a month or 3 if I have to but I don't want to go longer then that. Also, don't want to go through the trouble of overclocking, if I can set a multiplier and reboot that's fine, but incrimental changes then a 48hr burn test does not fit my temperment.

Thanks in advance :D

Out of all the RPG's I've played I think I'm suprised by how much I like Legend of the Dragoon. It's not that great a game compared to so many other good ones but I still have a soft spot in my heart for it.

Story is not the fourth pillar. There is no fourth pillar. What is this pillar business anyway, more jargon, maybe i'll just turn on cnn and listen to pundits talk more rhetoric BS.

fourth pillar hahaha gtfo
