You know why WoW is still the biggest western mmo?

Microsoft: "We have a console for people without internet, it's called a 360"
General Gaming « General Discussion 6/12/13 10:41:38 AM
I've got my popcorn ready for the show. I didn't think it was possible for Microsoft to blunder virtually every decision for years on end but like Eli Porter, "They DEED EET!" I've had decent internet service for the past 2 years had 1 major outage that lasted roughly 36hrs. 12 too long for microsoft though. The Score: PS4 - 1 XBOX NONE |

Not sure what to think these days. I'm running great on the a 2500K and a 2400 so I'll wait until one of you jumps on Haswell and drops some trustworthy benches. On the other hand, I've seen a couple people showing real life benches with FX series CPU's going neck and neck with their more expensive Ivy Bridge counterparts.

If you want a next generation gaming console, then you want a PlayStation 4--and not an Xbox One
Hardware « General Discussion 5/29/13 3:19:16 AM
I understand that I'm getting older and less willing to adapt to new things, demonstrated by my avoidance of twitter for years among other social media but the one thing I always liked to keep up with is gaming. Based on what Quizzical has been saying the past few months about both consoles, the only real benefit to me is that Developers will finally upgrade the graphics on games and that will translate to the PC ported versions AND THAT makes me happy. I'm still unwilling to convert to the console side, if I did, which I wouldn't, I'd have to say that the PS4 is the only one that makes sense, even if Sony can't keep their customers payment and privacy information safe, getting robbed by paying for Xbox live doesn't sound any better either lol. I successfully avoided the 360 and PS3 without missing out and I was afraid they might give me a good reason to waste money on next gen consoles. Glad to see that it'll be no problem to skip this gen as well. Worst case scenario is that the PS4 and Xbox one can keep up with the average mid-range to lower high-end gaming PC's of today? Then they'll make games for the next 10 years that'll run just fine on my current lowest end PC.

[Hardware Review] General: The Sapphire AMD 7870 HD Review
News & Features Discussion « General Discussion 5/12/13 11:56:42 PM
I found that the EVGA GTX660 was a pretty good buy @ $200. It seems to have noticeably better performance than AMD's 7870 in Anandtech's benchmarks. Just an FYI, I've owned both cards and either one is great BUT the 7870 comes with more free games :) Also, I'm not sure if the Metro: Last Light promo is still good, it was available for Nvidia GTX 660 and above but, the FarCry 3, Tomb Raider and Bioshock Infinite promo should be for AMD 7850's and above. |

Lets be honest with ourselves, this is not a real game. They slapped a popular Forgotten Realms title on it and tossed it out there as easy bait. It's almost a straight up flash browser game AND it's free, I'm surprised it even HAS animations. Take everyone's advice, hold down the mouse button to avoid carpal tunnel syndrome, pay a little attention to the simple patterns from larger mobs then collect loot. Being serious, I understand where you're coming from. They designed the game like that on purpose so you would get hit more then never... get the pun? |

How should xp be distributed in an mmo? (with poll)
The Pub at MMORPG.COM « General Discussion 5/08/13 10:50:29 PM
Now that I'm thinking about it, I don't even like the XP leveling systems that exist now. Gradually clicking memorized buttons until the bar finally tells you that you've gained a new skill seems strange. With MMO's being well over a decade old, most of us that play them already know the tired leveling formula. Xp is only gained through the following; Combat Crafting Exploration Sometimes "resting" boosts the amount so that is technically a form of XP. The exploration category is the least comprehensive in most MMO's, it usually involves a fly by or crossing a border. In life you can gain XP aka Widsom through inner reflection and observation I think both of which may be hard to translate. For myself it might come down to the fact that I'd rather not even bother to earn XP, unless the game changes it's progression system radically, I don't even think I want to level that much anymore. I think I prefer systems that allow me to create my own reward for my own progression pace... I.E. crafting unique items through experimentation or creating my own combat moves and affects with matching animations. I know that I'm asking too much lol |

I've always felt that an exploit is proof of human incompetence and or ignorance. Not an insult, just saying that no one is perfect. Following that train of thought I don't think that people should be punished for someone else's stupidity. If people don't see any value in the rest of the game and would prefer grinding out identical mobs in an enclosed dungeon, that says more about their game then anything else. This isn't even like the gold duping in D3, this is just XP. -1 for PW / Neverwinter I don't mind the game so far but they have higher priority issues to deal with before finding time to ban people for first time minor offences.

EQ Next sounds like it's coming out "relatively soon". Then again I'm in no rush anymore lol

elder scrolls is not the elder scrolls we know.
General Discussion « Elder Scrolls Online 4/22/13 12:23:36 PM
When I see a games do this it reminds me of Apple and Blizzard. Apple catered to their market for years and didn't really ever change. In the end, or at least up until now, they stuck to what they knew and did best and, it worked out awesome for them. Same thing with Blizzard and WOW Most of these companies are doing the opposite of what apple AND Blizzard did. They decide to ignore their core consumer base and appeal to wider demographic that may or may not even know their IP exists. It may yet work out for TESO but based on the leaked footage and official rendered gameplay video I would say that they better hope ArchAge doesn't get here at around the same time they do. |

If SWTOR 2.0 would have been 1.0...
General Discussion « Star Wars: The Old Republic 4/20/13 3:46:08 AM
With a space sim, eve style (with better graphics of course) I think SWTOR would have crushed. A few more improvements would have been nice, you guys mentioned pazaak, swoop racing etc... some other fun stuff, multi-passenger ships maybe. With those additions I think SWTOR would and maybe still could be a monster of a MMO. I think Disney might have other plans though lol. Seeing as they're shutting Starwars shit down at the moment. |

Don't feed the trolls Delete5
For the most part SWG was the first MMO I really started playing and, when it came out I thought for sure by 2013.... A DECADE LATER we would be able to play something that looked similar to "Watch Dogs" but online. If I had known that we'd be playing the games we are playing now........ What I'm equally shocked about is how many folks think these new games are awesome. Is Defiance really that awesome? I mean, SWG eventually got JTL. I mean, can you B*tches not add space to sci-fi games at release yet? These f0ckers are tryin to set me up so it's like...play WOW or read Twilight, even Salvatore isht all over his last novel. Can we catch a break here? |

I was about to blindly go ATI again but I paused and thought about it. I then found the GTX 660 @ around 200 ish on Amazon. Is this the smart choice at around $200? I remember ATI used to be basically the only option I would consider if I was floating around this price. The GTX 660 looks pretty nice though and as a bonus PhysX would be available. It's going into a Sandy Bridge i5 and on a 24" monitor. I guess I'm just trying to confirm the choice, GTX 660 or Equivalent or something considerably cheaper like a 7770 or GTX 650 and or TI.
Thanks for the advice. |

I really can't imagine upgrading this year unless the pricing is comparable to what's out now. There are enough people who won't want to build their own machine who will buy my old gaming rig thus paying for my upgrade but...overkill?

I'm not even sure I buy the whole "PS3 / XBOX 360 held their own" thing. I used to think that maybe they did, that was until I played Crysis maxed out. Then I was pretty pissed at the graphical sacrifices I had to make because of the cross platform thing. I love Skyrim but I thought it should have looked much better, at least, better than a game from 08. Alas, it was a cross platform game and I can't blame a company for wanting to make money. At the time of the PS3 release it hit very close to $800 in Canada (taxes suck there). People were lined up for it, this doesn't include the folks who were willing to ebay it at release, which went up to 3x-5x the price. Moral of the story is, if gamers are willing to throw their money at consoles without a second thought because of fanboyism, then anything is possible, including the death of the gaming PC. After all, you might be able to predict hardware advances, but it's much harder to predict people. |

Which of these alive MMO titles would you like to see shutting down
The Pub at MMORPG.COM « General Discussion 4/14/13 11:08:57 AM
Originally posted by h0urg1ass At first I was going to say that EVEN I, the consumate hater, wouldn't want to see any mmo shut down. I was then going to continue on to say that I did wish that SWTOR wasn't a huge success because I didn't want to see other games follow their weak game mechanics and I got my wish. HOWEVER! You make a seriously solid point. I do like the StarWars IP AND I also follow your line of thinking therefore, SWTOR must go if we are to see a better StarWars game on the MMO market any time soon. Sad to say, especially since people would lose their jobs but maybe they could just get...you know, shuffled over. Not a fan of who ever made the gameplay concept decisions though, THAT dude can eat it. |

The future of spell casting in RPG/MMORPG's ?
General Gaming « General Discussion 4/11/13 2:09:18 PM
I'm still undecided on the whole gesture spellcasting thing. I mean, not in an mmo format. If a game is solely based on gesture casting like the video demo then sure, but having to memorize then draw my spells sounds like 1 more thing going in the opposite direction of "combat strategy". Using the spell with a gesture or voice recognition sounds great, and that's where I draw the line :P I'm sure some people will love it, probably the same type that likes twitch based combat. I will admit that there is a place for it in all games though, I just disagree on some the details. |

I'm gathfinder that in my lifetime everything will be on 1 chip. It's nice to see intel trying, I may actually purchase an integrated graphics laptop now, well, maybe in the future.
