I don't know about you, but I prefer the Scarlet Blade ads over the Eden Eternal llama!

How is vertical progression done in this game?
General Discussion « Neverwinter 5/25/13 7:57:25 AM
Hi, As the title says, I have a question related to vertical progression in NWO. I understand that the game design is similar to most themeparks in the market, e.g. WoW. You level up relatively quickly to max level and then you are engaged in endgame. I was wondering whether there is any other way of vertical progression of your character besides gear once you reach max level? How long does it take to get capped in terms of vertical progression (I realize it depends on how much time you spend playing, but just some rough estimate - is it a week?a month? a year? For me, vertical progression is an important aspect of the game which pretty much determines the longevity of an MMO, so I am trying to find out whether I should give this game a shot or not. Thanks for any useful answers. |

Finally a game that deserves to be on the hype meter
General Discussion « Black Desert 5/23/13 11:41:53 AM
To me, it seems that Eastern MMO developers are more creative and innovative than their competitors in the West. Just look at examples of games that are currently being developed or have been released recently in the East like ArcheAge and Black Desert. They look so fresh. I realize both these games may be bad and fail hard in the end. It is not about them in particular. It is more about the concepts which seem to be so much different from what Western developers have bound themselves to since WoW came out. One generic themepark after another have been coming out in the West. Consider examples of games that are being developed here like Wildstar and TESO or recently released games like GW 2 or Neverwinter. Western players are so used to the same old MMO design that the lack of so called holy trinity seems like a revolution to them. I am personally quite excited about Eastern MMORPGs now as it seems to me that nothing spectacular will be coming from Western developers any time soon. I am not a big fan of hype, but I completely understand why someone makes a title like this. Excitement about an MMORPG which seems to be built around a fresh concept is quite justified for a Western player who has been bombarded by generic themeparks for last decade. Maybe it is just me, but this is how I feel about it. |

I would be interested in DDO 2. I think that the first one is also a nice game, but it is to a large extent influenced by the business model. If it was P2P, it would be much more enjoyable, for me. |

Still, no MMORPG surpasses WoW in fluid combat (in my opinion): Why not?

I agree with the OP. WoW's fluid combat / responsiveness is the best. |

Originally posted by asmkm22 I completely agree with red part. As for green, I said I understand when people say it breaks immersion. It does for me a little as well. I prefer pure fantasy unless technology is well incorporated in lore like in WoW. The main point of my post was to express my opinion on the title of the thread and the way OP interprets his disappointment. |

WoW has choppers. I guess it is also officially ruined. Where do these titles even come from. I understand when someone says it breaks immersion, but making a thread called "Arche Age Officially Ruined" is a bit strong reaction.

Slot Machines in Middle Earth? A new low in MMORPGs...

Slot Machines in Middle Earth? A new low in MMORPGs...
General Discussion « Lord of the Rings Online 5/16/13 5:41:01 AM
MMOs / MMORPGs are created with only one purpose...to generate profit. Maybe it is one of the reasons why I prefer P2P games. You subscribe, the subs is automatically charged from your account every month and the whole business aspect of the game is more or less subtle. I also do not mind WoW's cash shop which is completely separated from the game. In F2P games, the cash shop is omnipresent. I know it sounds like cliche, but it breaks immersion. Whether it is a huge button "Buy coins" or slot machines like you mention in the OP does not matter. It simply does not belong here. |

10 good reasons why MMOs do not need vertical progression

I, personally, consider vertical progression to be the RPG part of an MMORPG. For me, it is one of the most significant elements of an MMORPG.

Do you read quest text or just click accept?
The Pub at MMORPG.COM « General Discussion 5/15/13 1:35:29 PM
I chose "just click accept" as it is what I do in most cases. However, it depends on various aspects, such as: Game design - A game where leveling is mostly quest based (e.g. WoW), I usually do not read it since in one gaming session, I do large number of quests. With that in mind, I realize I would spend a lot of time reading them and since I am a type of gamer that tends to maximize the utilization of the gaming time, I usually just click accept and hurry from quest to quest. In a game which is rather grind based (or some other design), but include some quests, I usually dedicate the time to reading them. Quality of the quests - If the quests are interesting, I am obviously more likely to read the quest text. How long have I been playing - After several hours of playing, I am less likely to read the quest text as I am rather tired and try to keep my energy for something more useful (ingame) :)
