    • 10% bonus to experience point gain
Don't know about you but this looks way worse than offering an exclusive horse with an imperial edition.
Smell like P2W to you?

actually bonus for exp is not pay to win at all.

BUT in your post there is something worst, pay to access ... So the game will become f2p ? or it will be b2p with this barrier for those who wont keep on membership ?

the game looks and promising, just this method is annoying and gaming community got tired from this.

But for the game there is another argument ...

Those who didn't like GW2 after the first month of its release they will still hate it.

The combat is the same, the story will be similar with the living story. It will remain a casual game.

This which will change is that they will add a specialization (one per class) and one whole class (which will have references to GW2 lore).

The mastery system will be similar to the existing WvW system (they already admitted this) which is not bad, and it will be good to have a unified system all around. The new maps will be a larger scale of the already new map of LivingStory. The WvW new map will be a borderland edition with mechanics from the existing EotM (edge of the mists).

Actually i believe that mechanics we saw last year around and there (EotM, rise of Teq., vertical maps, etc) we will pay for them into a larger scale.

These which are new are the glides, guild halls, strongholds(which we dunno if it will be something Smite or the old GvG, at least it will come with team ranking).

Anyway in the next 2 months we will get more details and at PX East we will see what they mean . For the moment i am skeptical optimistic about these changes and Anet's promises.

very good interview

well the good part was that we get the feel they work fast. At next PAX we will see playable demo and then at Rezzed in Europe.

and the bad part is this:

"MO: I do want to be clear, we are not being coy today, we're not saying, “Oh, here's a tease of Heart of Thorns, but there are other things.” Our players were very patient waiting for today, and we announced every major feature of Heart of Thorns today."

this means no dungeons, no home instances, etc

subscription model for a theme park game is a fail these days ... WoW still has subscription model cause of the unique audience it has build around it. (dunno if i typed it correct..)

My personal definition:

pay-to-win -

Any game mechanic that can only be bought with real money or which cannot be easily obtained with in game means that gives one player a combat advantage of any size against players of their own level.

By this definition, I primarily exclude experience boosters and "buying levels" right off the bat, as these do not provide an advantage over other players of one's level. It merely gets one's level up faster, and this can actually be a disadvantage when trying to learn and gear characters.

I also exclude useful non-combat utilities like character slots, storage, and other such items. These provide an economic advantage of sorts, but they do not transition directly into gameplay.

Lastly, I've excluded currency conversion. I do not personally believe that money -> gold conversion is a form of pay-to-win simply because the advantages gained from it are designed to be readily obtained in game. The mileage here may vary depending on how gear tiers are designed, however. But overall, I feel like currency conversion is a praiseworthy mechanic that allows anyone to obtain cash shop items with effort, and I tend to applaud devs for including it.

we just have the same opinion ... :)

Your math is a little wrong 270 dollars is only 21600 gems which is like 3200 gold which would not even get you one eternity.

so about 300$ for a legendary weapon huh.

and again this is not any issue, for me at least ...

i believe GW2 has one of the best cash shops around and give kudos to Anet for this.

the only issue i can see in the GW2's cash shop is the RNG for black lion ticket scrap. For those who dont know in GW2 there are black lion chests (which are a quite often drop) but require a key which you can buy it only from cash shop (or grinding lvl10 personal story, so around every 20mins you get one key doing a repetitive thing..). In these chests there is an RNG to get a scrapped ticket and IF you collect 10 of these tickets you can get 1 black lion ticket. This ticket is to buy weapon skin from a trader, but if the skin is old (from the previous living story) you need more than one of these tickets.. This is since 2 months after the launch of the game and although many disagreed back then, nothing change. For me this RNG is the only flaw in their cash shop ...

I'm just gonna come right out and say it. I think SOE is abusing the goodwill from early access. Indie studios trying to do early access are going to suffer because SOE is going to ride the early access horse into the ground.

on their review trailer at youtube i have called (in comments) all this project as a scam and everyone was against me, less than one year later i proved so right ...

i believe SOE is even worse than EA as a company cause they not only ruin games but also gaming attitudes ... i still believe that Everquest will also have huge problems and is a pity cause the storybricks (a team included in the developers) could offer a unique PvE mechanics and evolve the PvE in MMORPGs ...

to the OP i suggest to better look for the info for BDO, he will get disappointed ...

but i dunno why he focus on the themeparks and dont try to play games like EVE or Darkfall ... if half of all you who search for a decent sandbox, subscribed and played Darkfall, the game would have more money to continue the development and become even better.

is like someone demanding a small car to react like an off road. Some people shall realize that they represent a small part of the market.

p.s. btw half of the game he mention in the title are ok titles, i dunno what for the OP demands more ...

Yeap good idea but the last part (from the 4) of these missions are only for the most skilled and elite players. And, to make it worse, it offers them a super balanced top tier heavy tank.. The rest of us if we are lucky we might get the 3rd part's reward .
finally expansion ...

i dont have problem with subscription in games. But i hate when the subscriptions defines the access for you into the game ...

i prefer even the so called p2w ArcheAge model than the WoWs subscription ...

well from my experience on GW2, i can say that game mechanics can shape the community. When it released after a month all the elitists had gone already.. At this state of the game there are only "casual"players, and mostly a friendly community even on WvW. Players who they do care about the LivingStory even if the story is kinda boring etc, and dont rant even on WvW when they lose ...

i believe this cause of the game mechanics it brought and the direction the developers took. Sometimes we see in forums guys posting all the time and creating negative trends for games, but the games still have their population and are joyful for others who are also the majority.

I prefer a mediocre in population game than a success in numbers. The developer's huge profit doesnt brings me joy in game ...

just another post wishing for an expansion release and not a new season of living story ...

blah blah

 blah blah

Black Desert has a point system for gathering and crafting - just like ArcheAge - instead of "labor" it's called "stamina points" - direct translation from my Korean friend.

Don't confuse "stamina points" used for crafting/gathering etc with combat related "stamina" - it's 2 different things.

oh snap i have missed that :p

anyway i dont care since i am ok with premium accounts in World of Tanks, you just pay for faster progress i dunno why all this rage ...

also something different about PvP games in arenas like MOBAs or GW2/WoW/arenas is that game offers open world pvp between players not factions. which is not simple PvP but also politics. That very last feature misses from all the other games except those who have open world pvp like EVEonline/LineageII/etc ... This is where BDO shines and the majority of PvPers are looking for (something in which Tera failed hard.. )

The next will be Bless which is just another faction based WoW clone.

During the OBT of Black Desert, most Koreans were able to reach level 50 in 24-48 hours and stoped playing without much to do after that, BD rapidly went down in the charts.

First was ArcheAge and now BD, the next failure will be Bless. I wonder how much time they need to realise that copying WoW features is what leading to those short MMO hype followed by oblivion.

You can't make a rush to cap WoW style MMO if you can't provide a vast end game content as WoW does. And for me I'm not interested in rushing to cap, but in the journey and the socialization in open world when it comes to sandbox.

I couldn't even find Black Desert on the gamenote ranks, in the list nothing really changed, Lineage 1 is in 4th position, the most popular MMO in Korea. WoW was in a high position when WoD launched, but after devastating the content, koreans left the game in droves, and WoW went back to 29th position.

Black Desert and ArcheAge are not PVE focused games - they are primarily PvP games. Playing either game for PvE experience is sort of pointless, if you want PvE there are LOTs of existing PvE games to chose from.

This is why quick leveling, do you can PvP at max level without grinding for months.

You do realize that Black Desert is not released in Korea yet - so you won't find it ranked.

Also I don't see any point in comparing niche open world PvP games to PvE centric themeparks like WoW.

Apples and Oranges - completely different playerbase targeted.

Calling AA and BD "wow style MMOs" is hilarious as again they target a completely different player.

I wanted to say the same, i follow that game since 2 years when the developers were chatting on their facebook profile with people who just followed them ..

The are no similarities with the AA except the labor system which in BDO is called differently and its ok and working. I dont know why you have problem with labor points .. The serious problem with AA at west, i thought, it was the inability of TRION to respond on hackers and exploiters ...

Both games have no link with WoW, i confirm that the OP's opinion is totally inaccurate ... And yes BDO is a PvP focused game no reason to compare it with PvE games .  Also one major difference with the AA and BDO is that BDO will have the same publisher at West and Korea ...

The OP has no idea how BDO works and what it is about, typical post in forums ...

p.s.  on the article the OP has linked we get info that Tera is oe of the Top games, wasn't that a failure in S.Korea ..?

good idea but i would like such blog post after the release of the game xD

i my opinion the best MMORPG at is the EVE online, it has great depth, in terms of crafting/pvp/economy and even role play !

i dont consider WoW as MMORPG, i see it only as a massively themepark without any part of RPG there ...

but my favorite mmorpg at the moment is GW2, as a casual gamer ...

i thought "hey maybe instances aren't so bad, I get a lot more varied content, no lag. Why did I hate this so much?!"

And then I played AOC and every zone and area was instanced and I thought "o god this can only get worse..."

Hell even the servers are instanced now adays?!

well there is something worse coming, instanced maps alongside megaservers ...
