It is expensive, unless the Astral Diamonds are worth $400. It seems like a kickstarter.

Try like $43, thats was the last evaluation of the worth was in a comparison to STO and CO comparisons.

Nope only complainers and crybabies think so.  For some of us this is a perfect opportunity to support Cryptic with the funds for an awesome MMO.

Now if the price was mandatory you would have a complaint but this founders pack is for those who want the items and the guarenteed beta invites.  Nothing wrong at all because the company is providing the things players want and not what they need.

Gullible new to the mmo market gamers like yourself, are what Cryptic's marketing department are after. The majority of mmo players know only to well how this game will turn out.

The gullible indeed.  Neverwinter amzaes me with how quickly some are willing to part with their money and not even question the value of the product.

The expensive stuff in the $200  pack is probably

•   Exclusive access to ‘Menzoberranzan Renegade" race
•    Unique ‘Armored Spider’ mount
•    Unique ‘Panther Companion’

Maybe these are worth $100 each. But it's nothing gamebreaking, it's just visual flair. The $60 pack has a mount and companion too, and probably just as good.

So in other words you like being ripped off then?  Well good for you, others here are financially responsible and won't be.

As you can only get into the beta by paying for a founders pack without even a free beta weekend to decide .

This is a lie.

Lots and lots and lots of ways to get into beta for free.

Liars should be banned.

I'm willing to bet everyone will get into beta before release.

[mod edit]

As it stands founders packs (paid for), RaiderZ elite pack (paid), and TL2 pre-order (again paid for) all are paid access to the CB.  The only exception is the lifetime menbership of CO and STO but those too were paid as numerous people bought it specifically for Neverwinter access.

While yes there are other opportunities but nothing is released and for all we know it will be the very last weekend right before open beta or they will just be open beta access for all we know.  And Cryptic singed this "other opportunities" before with the TL2 promo, and what was those oppurtunities?  2 friggin alpha keys (really crap if you ask me especially since only a month later the CB is starting), the PC Gamer code (again was a marketing manuver to sell PC Gamer magazines), and possiblely the RaiderZ elite founders pack (don't recall if that was before or after TL2 pre-order debaticle on the forums).

And I thought the Guild Wars 2 smug overhype was bad.

Keep hating a game with nonsensical posts and vabid hate and you will force us to hype it even more.  Dont want no hype then stay the heck off the forums and ignore games you dont intend to play.  Hate leads to hype, pretty sure that was the next line in Yodas famous speech.

There is no forcing you, you hype the game every chance you get.

As for the topic.... well considering DDO is claimed as the best F2P MMO I really doubt that it will be hard to be claimed the best F2P MMO since competition there is pathetic.  Even still, Neverwinter has much to prove yet.

The fanboys will tell you no, but the normal MMO crowd would say fuck yeah it's a bit expensive.  I reckon only the Drizzit/Drow fan cluib is going after this, or the blind citing that they are supporting Cryptic.  I would condsider $200 if it had that value but all you get is that drow race (yes race since you get a whole new racial ability which consitutes being a different race), panther companion (again with the Twarpzit marketing), and a armored spider mount that I can care less for all of these.  The rest are minor things that will be common commodaties in the cash shop.  Even then they should have went with $90 or $120.  GW2 you had a lot of fan  merchandise like the Grimlock statuetes, pet, artbook, OST.... now THAT is a collectors edition and not this Closed Beta sales pitch crap.

I may be mistaken, but don't these packs come with a shit ton of the cash shop currency? Like 750k of it for the 200 dollar version.

Sure, but we have no idea what 750,000 astral diamonds means.

People on the official forums compared it to STO and CO stores equivilent.  Pretty much once it's converted to Yen tthe American dollar worth is sitting round $43 to be used in the store I assume.  Yeah you would think 750k would be like $80or $120 worth but really it only comes out to $43 if those who did the calculations were right, it comes out to $43.

Technically this is a Cryptic game not a PWE game, PWE is a publisher but the design and everything is Cryptic design without influence from PWE with the exception of the cash shop most likely.

Why innovate when you can just show boobs, right?

But it's no AoC boobies... FAIL on sex advertisement.

Everyone agreed and knew that this was more or less a Diablo clone.  Don't see the big deal, not like countless other games based their game off a successful one.

That's all you need to know. PTW and main feature barriers (THE main feature).

Taking the piss.

Explain to me how those = PTW??? Do you even know what that acronym means? To be PTW they would have to be items that give paying players a distinct advantage over non paying. All you listed are convenience items, and would only help level faster. And while I'm on the topic, who gives a crap if there is PTW in this game? (there isn't yet) As far as I can tell there is no PVP so do you really care if the other guy can clear a dungeon faster than you?

Tell me, what items exactly do you think they should sell in their cash shop that would make them enough money to fund making a game? Dye kits? Fancy useless hats? Try not to forget, they are a business and the only way they can produce a new game is if it makes a profit! I'm getting so sick of you I want eveything free crybabies.

Ohhh there will be PvP that you can count on and this has been confirmed.  Whether or not at launch is to be seen, haters gonna say not in launch advocates will say it will be which I do specifically remember they said it will be but not gonna spend hours digging through interviews or vids to please the naysayers.  However they do intent to put in quality PvP and not just for the sake of having PvP.

And really until we see the cash shop no one can neither confirm nor reffute that it's P2W.  While I agree it's not on the P2W side but these founder packs do have me worried.  Gauranteed rare item chest loot, masterwork starting items, different race or "background" as some instist to call it which has a racial ability that could trump all other races all show signs that the game's cash shop will not be entirely cosmetic.  Even in STO Jack denies that selling better, or "different" as he calls em, starships does not give players an advantage.  Example cited was armor while I never played STO I been in enough MMOs to know some stats are the king of stats.

Originally posted by Vallista While I'm not the biggest of Elder Scrolls series, if I'm reading whats true about this game, well this might be finally the game I'm looking for.  I'm hoping Bethesda and Zenimax have the good sense not to allow people to play different factions on the same server.  Its what ruin Wow, rift, should I keep going?  It's also nice for a group to finally give us what players have been looking for awhile now.  Lets hope.  I'm begging there is true rvr in this title.
They don't have shards. It's one big megaserver. Instead they'll have something like instances which you get to pick and choose depending on your playstyle and other preferrences... And I guess you'll be able to change that, or it'd be really inconvenient for the player. So, the "just one faction on one server" probably won't apply, seeing as they won't have servers in the traditional sense.
THis is true but for PvP you get assigned a campaign when you enter cyrodiil, that campaign is perminant and to change compaigns will cost you allience points (pvp progression). Also if you roll an alt on the other faction you will be locked out of the campaign your mains/mains guild is on to prevent cheating

Not that i don't believe you, but can you link a source for the sake of community knowledge?

I too would like where this is coming from.   Intresting concepts but questions remain like how does one change their main sense time to time people like to change up.  Are there multiple campaigns (as a way to hinder an overly populated faction)?  The biggest question for ZM is how they will address a faction population imbalance.  For instance I'm betting that Ebonheart (granted the poll here is proving otherwise but my guild site 3 out of 4 round bouts are going with Ebonheart) will have a dominating population and it will be a consecutive zergfest winnings for them.

BETA = painfull test you done at your own time, full of alg = little pleasure, IMO.

I have no idea who and why can pay for beta test on himself.=D

Beside 200$ for ANY game is too much, even if it's a very good game. My WoW standard tell me that in case game cost 200$ + even optional, 15$ per month must be 100% same quality as WoW

I have no idea how to find out game quality from beta test.

I have huge doubt this game can be even to WoW (when great names like Tera, GW2, Aion etc failed).

I guess I don't even want to try it for free as it sound like unfair money trap already.

Good luck with hypo and one more "innovative" Asian MMO.

For the record this isn't an asian MMO and wish people will get it through their heads.  Neverwinter was already a finished product before PWE came into the picture and allowed Cryptic to develope the game more.  When they did Cryptics was the one doing all the designing and artwork.  Bout the only influence PWE is financial backing and probobly Cash Shop elements.

I completely agree. There are way better IP's out there.

Yep. And Blizzard is sitting on one: Startcraft would be much better than Warcraft

I agree.  I always was much more enticed with the SC lore that WC .  Not to mention SC might have a much wider audiance.  Mention SC and people might listen to you about the game, mention WC and watch them slowly back away from you.  OR Diablo for that matter, I love stuff evolving around demons in a theological sense.

I just dread that people wil go see the movie in their BlizzCon outfits.  Never understand those people.

As a side quesion, and I ask the same of TESO fans, would you be as excited for this game if it didn't connect it's brand to one you already love? Would the game itself hold up to what you are looking for? Would you care about it anymore then a random PWE game? Try to answer honestly if you can...

I apologise for quoting myself, but no one has yet directly answered this and I am interested.

If Cryptic had just launched the game as a generic fantasy MMORPG with no known IP or the ability to connect it to an older much loved title would you even be looking at it as a fan?

Probobly not.  If the game looks great then yeah, if not then no.  The Duneons and Dragons IP is what keeps me coming back to DDO even though it's a pretty shitty MMO, holding out on update 17 for Neverwinter.  I love the lore and setting of FR and many aspects of D&D which is why I will check out every D&D game.  Same reason why some people will swallow a shit sandbox like Darkfall or Archeage, because it has sandbox and PvP elements.

People just need to get their panties out of a bundle when it doesn't live up to expectations or how it's not a direct translation.  I accept that IP MMOs are MMOs first and foremost and all are inspired by the IP but will be a different game entirely.  As long as the game is fun then I'll play.

The beta access is a bonus, the packs will exist after release.

Wake up and learn about F2P models.

You still get beta keys for free from fansites and on twitter etc.

You didnt learn anything from the thread you made about this?

It is in my book.  It just so happens that the day they announced Beta schedule they release these founders pack that grant CB access, all CB as it stands are paid for from either TL2 and RaiderZ with the exception of the lifetime members from STO and CO, they enphasize several times that it grants you beta access not to mention the very first line in the video is summed up as "bu founders packl and get Beta access."  They ARE selling beta access, closed beta access at that.  If they did not include it in the package I will gurantee that the packs will not nearly as sell as well and they know this.  Beta access is the new sales pitch or carrot on the stick to sell pre-orders or "founders packs."

People really whining about P2W in a PvE game?

Not that I have seen anything that show P2W in this game.

Because it's PWE, F2P, and has a Cash Shop.  Same reason why people rant that GW2 is P2W even though there is nothing there that gives a player an advatage.  Karma/XP boosts are not an advantage over a player.

Wow.. people see the $200 option and forget all the others.  That level is for those who wish to get the "collectors edition" level piece.. I can think of at least one game (star wars) that I paid close to that amount.  Only to stop playing two months later.  There is nothing in it that is required.. it's got some cool stuff and if you want to pay for it (I'm tempted) you can.   Everything that's there is clearly stated.. your not buying based off future savings as you might have for a sub game.  So even that uncertainty isn't there.   You know what your getting but if you don't want it.. then your not missing ANYTHING.

So many recent F2P games offer something similar of late.  Planetside 2, MechWarrior online, and others.  Not to mention the even bigger gambles on kickstarter.  I didn't pay for any of them.  I still got beta in most of them.  Do not pay for any of these options if that's what your aiming for.. it'll be out before you know it and betas are betas.. there will be no cost to you for waiting for the open beta itself other than time... and if you can't wait well maybe you should put down your money and support the game your going to be playing ($60 isn't that terrible and you get some cool stuff).  If you can't afford that just keep an eye out for givaways and you'll more than likely snag a beta key somewhere.

Simply put this is crowdfunding in the same way kickstarter does it.  Mechwarrior made over a million dollars doing the "pre purchase" thing.  Of course they're going to do this.  Just relax you'll still get your shot at playing the game even if you don't pay a dime... the question is how much do you want to play a real mmo in the neverwinter setting?  Is that worth some monetary support? So much negativity... well of course it would be this is the internets.

Well those other collector's edition usually had items that made it worth the price tag it came with.  Neverwinter's doesn't.  Last tally and estimation is that it is worth $120.  Only things worth of note is the 3 Char slots, mount, race (yes race since you get an actual ability, this isn't a simple background), and the astral diamonds.  All the other items are just misc crap.  I'm all for collectors edition (bout the DDO MotU one) IF it has the value.  This is just an overpriced beta access for the drow/drizzit fan club.

Watch it that they post all these things in their cash shop at launch or shortly after and you can get all the noteable items for 1/3 of the price of the founders pack and then the bitching will ensue on the forums of being cheated.

1. What are the top one or two MMO games you have spent the most hours playing in the last 3 months?

2. Which MMO got you hooked on MMO games?

WoW (was my first MMO and got hooked)

3. If you could wave a magic wand and "fix" all the problems in any one MMO (past or present), which MMO game would you fix ("fix" includes upgrade graphics and animations)?

4. How much money have you spent on MMO games in the last 6 months, including game client, time cards/subscriptions, gem cards, real money auctions, third-party gold or leveling services, etc)?

5. If you could turn any setting from a book or movie into a modern MMO, designed to your specifications, which book or movie would you adapt (even if it has already been done)?

Ohhh impossible to pick one... Dune or Dragonlance in the Chronicle series (first series with Tanis, Strum, ect ect and the Dragon Armies) setting

It's in.

Here's a new user faq on NW forums : link

Thanks, so Ambros123 is saying "It will be in and will be quality" based on a fan faq on information from sources other than the developers. I figured as much when he didn't provide links. So basically we don't know yet if it will officially be in, nor do we know if it will be a well done PvP system or if it will just be yet another tacted on PvP system.

I still feel the time could have been better spent elsewhere. It's sad that functional and aesthetically pleasing housing takes a back seat to a system that doesn't mesh well with the core of the game, I mean it is a PvE centric game. Since it doesn't mesh well with the core it gets stuck in instances or in some sort of endgame system... yay...

Those "sources" are a demo played through and talking to Andy who is the lead Dev.  They've stated it will be at launch but things change so it could quite possiblely been pushed back for all we know, but they have stated that it will be included at launch last word on the subject.  I can really care less either way if PvP is made into the game.  Take it however you want but they have stated this and this statement has spawned numerous threads on PvP in the forums.

With the amount of hate the PvP has in those forums (all the modders don't advocate PvP) they are not just gonna make crap up on PvP.
