Nothing can top BC but this comes very very close. I am level 95 and this expansion is just amazing.
I did give it a second chance and lasted only for couple of weeks. Broken LFG and veteran grind is why i discontinued my subscription.

I too like many others resubbed in anticipation of patch 1.5 and changes to vet XP. I was very critical of ESO at launch due to many bugs (falling through the ground for instance) and broken quests which made progression impossible. I quit around level 40.

Recently after reading that game is in much better shape now i decided to give it another go. I had a week off so played a lot and hit 50 in anticipation of finally being able to level veteran ranks. but it turns out that even after several patches the veteran XP is still a mess.

I knew that veteran ranks were a huge turn off for majority before but it seems it is somehow even worse now.  I wanted to experience it myself and after gaining rank  2 i don't see myself going through all the opposite faction maps and grinding dungeons etc. The veteran xp is  terrible and i feel i have hit a wall in terms of progression. I like choices in terms of how i want to level but that is not the case in veteran progression.

I have started an alt  since level 1 to 50 leveling is bug free now and honestly that is where the game shines. But i will probably quit again once i hit 50.

Well that is my feedback for those who are thinking of re subscribing to the game. In my opinion it is still not worth it. Maybe some day but not yet.

Can anyone help me understand this? i am not very technical so i am just guessing here. Shouldn't Blizzard before hand increase server capacity in anticipation of WOD launch?

I saw LFG documentary and they are clearly no small company. Look at all the hardware and technology they have access to. Knowing that total sales have clearly surpassed their server capacity should be the sign? no?

So if money is not the issue than what is?

Open world full loot MMO doesn't have enough players? who would have thought.

Got the expansion... waited a bit to finally get online. I kinda feel burned. Spent money on Blizzard for a expansion that literally mimics Neverwinter's(Perfect World) companions system.  So be it, the WOW copy is improved a bit. But you see Neverwinter is "FREE".

For the WOW throng it may be new. But for a mmo vet like me. It is nothing more than another set of ideas taken from another mmo to feed the masses and make big $$.

And everyone thinks mmo's are WOW clones. Im just going to stick with calling WOD. Neverwinter 2!

NW companion system was clearly taken from SWTOR. I don't see you complaining about that. Even then Blizzards companion system got nothing in common with NW other than that they are 'companions'.

That's the worst they could do.
I'm not saying they shouldn't add 20 man content, but not
at the expense of their 40 man stuff.
Carbine has no spine.
Players that didn't care about 40 man raids won't care for
20 man raids either.
Can you really see a casual say..oh yo yo ...20 man raids
and attunements, finally, because those 40 man raids were such
a burden....but 20 man is fly.
If anything they are alienating some of their most loyal players
to favour who?The imaginary ones that will flock to the game after
they left and swore to never return?

Your argument is invalid because they clearly don't even have enough players to run 40 man content. So who are they alienatting exactly?

Millions of people not playing can't be wrong.

Thumbs up for making me laugh.

This was to be expected. When even World of Warcraft with its millions upon millions of players doesn't find 40 man raids worth the development costs because so few people are attending them, this was pretty much a given.  If it's difficult to get 40 people together for a game with THAT many players, what chance does 40 man raiding in any game without that many subscribers have?

40 man raids have a fine chance of succeeding in an MMO assuming they are the core of the game and there is limited grind to have to go through to get there.

Please stop. 40 man raids are not viable anymore how many more failures before you people realise this? you can blame it all on excuses like 'if it has limited grind' or 'the core of the game' (what does that even means?) but the FACT is that 40 man raids are done for.

Its actually the exact opposite of what the last poster said.

I have no idea what he means by  the wilderness being individually rendered..all assets in any game will be individually rendered in real time. Makes it sound like he has no idea what hes talking about.

Most of the assets in the game, buildings, trees, rocks... are nearly all the same, usually coming from some set of 3-4 variations. They make heavy use of tiled textures over everything. Visually the game feels more like something from a generation or two back. Most lootable objects in the game are the same thing throughout the entire world, its usually a set of 3 different types with their respective loot tables. Interiors are extremely copy and pasted throughout the game, it seems nearly every dungeon is either the same cave, deadric dungeon or dwarven ruin of some sort.

Visually the game is not diverse nor stunning, especially when you compare it to the games coming out of Korea (oddly enough, see black desert for example). Character rigs for animation are poor, character animation due to the rigs is poor.

Zones are not actually that varied, theres a combination of like 5-6 zone types throughout the game, and they rarely vary inside those zones. Its usually a monotonous style type once you enter it.

Most of the game has very little to offer in unique assets and design, they tried to hide it but its apparent after a bit of play. This is Zenimax's first attempt at a mmorpg and you can tell they make a lot of mistakes, they seem to put a minimal amount of effort into a 2014 mmorpg.

The only credit they deserve is in the form of having mobs not randomly walking on every inch of free space for no apparent reason, and for flushing their world full of book shelves for those who just want to read stuff.

+1

Make that +2.

This Rabenwolf dude obviously knows what he is talking about.

We are not just talking about one game...please try to follow along it's really not that hard.  We are talking about the gaming industry.  Now if you are having issues please stay out of the conversation .  Thanks

I am also talking about industry in general. Aren't you the guys who keep defending these companies with excuses like 'get used to it because it happens in every MMO'?

Yous till didn't answer my question though.... on what basis you are giving free pass to companies and put all blame on shoulder of players?

What compels you to be an apologist on behalf of these companies who keep pushing their shoddy products in the market?

I don't apologize for them, in my experience when I have had issues it's been resolved about 90% of the time, the other 10% the time the issue, bug or whatever didn't stop me from continuing on.  These are video games if I run into a video game I have an issue with or don't like guess what I move on there are plenty of games out there.  To sit around in a forum an act like I'm being bent over because of a VIDEO GAME is pathetic.

But to sit around on forums and act as a white knight over a video game isn't pathetic?

There are two sides to every coin.

In a way he is correct.

I too blame the players. They get emotionally invested and hype the game to no extent and then begin to associate themselves with the "brand"- If players were objective and voted with their dollars devs would never get away with what they have/are.

In general. =P

It goes both ways doesn't it? the emotional investment i mean.

Given that guys like him would spend all their time to defend companies and their favorite games while trying to flame the so called haters and miss the obvious sweet irony while doing that.

I really like the game, but trying to pretend it isn't buggy as hell (even if you have been lucky enough not to experience them) is disingenuous.

Don't you love the posts where someone is quick to say 'what bugs? never happened to me so obviously its a trivial issue' or 'it never happened to me so it doesn't exist'.

Such desperate attempts to downplay thebugs even when they are fully aware of these issues (hard to escape reading about it in guild chat or in game zone chat). Gotto love the acting though.

No a special snowflake would be someone who flames every thread on a specific game with their double standards, crying, whining, and acting like somehow the game devs are taking advantage of them.  Now that would be a special snowflake.

I see you are still trying to put words into my mouth. I never said devs are taking advantage of me. You really love to make imaginary arguments just for the sake of it.

Hmm maybe you forgot this line...

the gaming industry is the only one where it's customers are expect to bend over and take it...

nope that's what you said I'm not making anything up.  I personally have never been bent over taken advantage of by a VIDEO GAME, but if you feel this way it must have happened to you .  Hence why you feel the need to have some crusade against eso and anyone who likes it.

Hes right though.

The gaming industry gets away with a myriad of things that would land any other profession in court or possibly jail. There is no consumer protection - period and devs use this to their advantage.

Your emotions are coming into play here- FAR too much.

I dont blame the devs , however- People will generally do whatever they can get away with. Its all off topic though and not overly important in the context of this discussion.

As someone said " If you cannot do a better job you cannot be critical and point out flaws/faults."=- Only in gaming and the 'art' world is this true. But even Art can be returned for a refund.

You lie gaming? Me too. Great. But blind defense is hurting the industry above anything else.

Its still okay to call a spade a spade.

The gaming companies do not get away with more.  Give me some examples here this argument is a joke .  The issue is today's gamers not the companies you have these kids who grew up getting everything handed to them being told how great they are and how they don't need to work to get ahead.  So now these kids start playing mmos and crying about subs and how they games really are not f2p and how done advocacy group should protect then .  Protect them from what ?  From having to pay for a video game ?

Please give me some examples of how video games are different from anything else beside the users generally are more fickle that's why we have haters crying, whining, flaming and trolling every game on these sites.

/facepalm

please do explain how duping and exploits is just players fault? have you ever heard of the phrase 'you can not clap with one hand' ?

Obviously that guy is also just out to get the fans and spoil their fun. Am i right?

That's it?

Maybe if you use a proper analogy i wouldn't even need to point out how utter BS this argument is. Poor analogy is poor and no matter how much i bang my head against the wall it will remain a poor analogy.

Yes and those who disagree are flamed by fanboys for being haters.

By the way saying that 'you are expected to just take it' doesn't mean 'trying to take an advantage'. English isn't even my first language and even i can understand the difference.

Just one look at these forums and i can make a very safe assumption that fans are just advising everyone to just shut up and get used to it. So i guess everyone who is against this 'sheep' behavior is on crusade against ESO and not just him.

@Bigdaddy. Again, it has to do with people's attitudes. Lots of people who have been playing MMOs for years, and who have been through all of this before in multiple games, are acting like they just got their MMO cherry popped. For some that may be true, but please don't act like that's the case for most of the people complaining in nearly every thread when they have been coming here for years and make the same complaints with every game, but then move on to something new because it's the trendy thing to complain about and suddenly seem to forget that the last game they played also had similar issues. It's not being apologetic (do you even understand the term?). It's simply pointing out a fact. This stuff happens in games. Stop acting shocked about it.

BTW yes, you should get used to it, because it does and always will continue to happen with ANY piece of software ever developed, not just MMOs. Nothing has ever been bug / problem free at release, and it will always be that way unless people suddenly become satisfied with using severely outdated software due to the time it takes to perform all of the extensive testing, fixing, retesting, fixing again, etc to get something completely bug free. There is a reason why nearly every software in existence is still receiving patches / updates even several years after their release. You simply cannot account for every possible issue that will occur in every situation, and you definitely cannot account for what users will attempt to do.

Thank but no thanks. I understand being prepared for bugs, server down time for maintenance etc but duping and exploits is something i will never get used to no matter how many MMOS i play. I expect developers to learn from mistakes of other MMOS and try to do better. Gaming is the only industry where customers are expected to just bend over and take it. So please go ahead and get used to it but i will continue to put my foot down as far as heavy exploiting is concerned.

Well since you are so big, perfect and know everything why don't you go make your own mmo with no bugs, no downtime , no other issues that make everyone happy

Yes it will always be this way you can never predict what a million players playing at once will do no matter how long mmos are being developed.  As for learning from other devs you really think they share their code with other devs?  Come on get real.  Bend over and take what?  Oh everyone is out to get biggdaddy got it.  Everyone is out to take advantage of biggdaddy got it, well you don't like it stop playing mmos.

You might as well stop driving cars too they have been made for over 100 years the car companies still have recalls(issues, bugs, exploits)  still have issues that threaten the drivers lives !! And you think gaming companies keep bending you over?  The world is not out to get you , you just don't understand the process of making a mmo and the variables that go into finding and fixing issues in your world if biggdaddy is mad you better fix it now...sorry not how the real world works.

Everytime someone uses this BS excuse i feel like

Let me guess you never criticised a movie ever right? you just love everything you see and hear and read because obviously you can not make  a movie or write a song or paint a picture so obviously you have no right to criticise anything.

I guess you never even criticise your government because you obviously you are not a politician.

Wow!!!

As if no one even cares to give feedback or reviews about this game.

It probably is a good sign, they are probably too busy playing.

I am actually shocked at how it is dominating in terms of popularity on MMORPG though.  I didn't think it would do so well on this site specifically.

4+ million hits and only 2 weeks into launch?  It is shocking.

Yeah 4 million people have time to read articles but not take  few secs to cast a vote for the game they love so much. I love your logic.

People also huddle in front of televisions to watch car wrecks. So ESO could be popular for all the wrong reasons.

4 million hits vs 180 votes. That should tell you something. That also for a game which is supossed to have 10 million subs by end of the year. lol

And i know mmorpg.com only represents few thousand MMO players but still it is very popular site and even if we just look at it for sake of sampling. ESO so far has the most pathetic amount of votes and player feedback. Its Elder Scroll ffs...it should have taken sites like these by storm in 2 weeks..and what we get? 180 votes.

People using this site just didn't bother playing?  180 votes total is very low. Perhaps the obscurity of TESO is why the rating score is so influenced lowly.

I guess the argument will be that ES people don't frequent MMORPG.com.

Fans of ES never heard of MMORPG.com, so that is a good argument.  They likely never heard of MMORPG's in general too.

No...fans of ESO didn't vote for something that didn't matter....like me, they just played it. You think votes for something matter...I think YOU don't matter. And  the MANY players would agree

So they all called you up and told you this? please stop talking on behalf of millions of players all over the world. Its not even humanly possible for you to know what they think.

Or maybe you got powers like Professor Charles Xavier..then  don't know.

Lets stick to talking about ourselves all right?

If this site is so obsecure how do you explain 4 million hits? can't be that obscur considering millions of MMO players are checking the game out daily.
