LQQK people it don't take a scientific calculator  to figure this out,and you don;t need a master's Degree.  Here are some of the

Biggest reasons for not only W0W's 10mil subscribers, but their continued success WITHOUT being a F2p:

1- Top Quality graphics

2. The  game mechanics that have remained consistent throughout the games history.

3- Flatout a business model that continues to be successful, and actually giving members

  bang for their Bucks.

4- continued content growth through continued add-ons and updates, not giving scribers a chance

  to get bored.

5. since the game's conception,it's actually an enjoyable game to play, including a player community

that is always ready to offer in game advice ad tips,a thing that many F2P games are seriously lacking.

IMO,above and beyond all that developers are always striving to create new in game items, and working

to expand the player Xperience.  I also think the player community has a great deal to do with the 10mil

scribers. For the most part, they make it easy for a new player to feel comfortable & welcomed.always

willing to help new players

The tope quality graphics bit of this made me lol. top quality in 2004, terrible quality in 2014/2015 you mean.

There are other flaws but im going to point out the 2nd most ridiculous one. The player community 'ALWAYS' makes people feel welcome. Then how come there is a thread on a newbie to wow who cant complete any quests on a PvE server because the enemy faction continually wipes out all npc quest givers so he can never manage to hand them in and get beyond level 40.

Yeah because top quality graphics only means quality in terms of 'visuals' right?

And did he say entire WOW community is full of angels who makes you feel welcome? every MMO has its bad apples.

Way to pick on his points and try to twist it into something it isn't.

Thread over.

What is funny is that people trivialize 7 or 6.5 million as if every other MMO holds same amount of subscribers and it is no big deal.

Arguments like 'come back to me after few months of expansion when subs are down to 7' really make me LOL!!

This applies for every MMO out there.

People just expect everything handed to them on a silver platter these days. Even socializing needs to be spoonfed to them.

The current generation refuses to take initiatives on their own, because it's much easier to complain and whine on a forum instead. /shrug

Lol. It's not the current generation b*tching on the forums about socializing, it's the old generation. Old MMOs spoonfed socializing to them, and now that MMOs no longer forces them to socialize, they are completely unable to do it themselves and blame the game for it.

This +1.

Mostly people who complain and moan on forums about 'no socializing' are not young or new players but old farts who just can not let go of the past.

There was no choice back them in terms of socializing. Take example of FFXI. Even if i didn't want to group i had because there was no other option. Either i do that or quit the game. Where was this 'initiative' that you guys speak of? forcing me to group with others never made me more social, it was just means to an end.

Infact it made me despise it. Back when i was playing FFXI only difference is that i just didn't know better and i was naive and new to MMO genre. So that was the only kind of interaction and socializing i was aware of.

If it was really that amazing i would miss it and think of it fondly but i do not. I like freedom of choice and i want to socialize on my own terms.

and what exactly make wow sub worthy?

What kind of silly question is that? we can argue about it till everyone is blue in face but fact is that WOW has millions of players paying sub for 10 years where as WS which is few months old can not.

Everything else is moot point.

Nice evasion attempt :) still no answer what makes wow sub worthy or you can even add "in perspective to ws" to this question, dont bother answering if you dont have atleast one point to your argument

Like i said if  even i give you 10 reasons why WOW is more subworthy it is still very subjective coming from me. So i ask again whats the point? will it suddenly change the reality where WOW has 10 million subscriber and WS doesn't? why sky is blue? why water is wet? this is that kind of pointless discussion.

i like that someone brought up apple in this argument, because the phone is total shiat (yes i do own one, in before the "you dont own one how can you judge" comment), its a perfect example how a product that once was good and popular established itself and pretty much occupied the market, making it hard for new and better products to compete with it just because their brands isnt known or people are brainwashed in believing in superiority of the said product just because ITS APPLE, NUFF SAID

Yes you got that right ..'Blizzard has brainwashed everyone into thinking that their game is fun'. Wow!! lol

I see another case of grapes are sour. I am sorry that WS isn't doing well but you are taking out your anger on wrong game considering WS wouldn't even exist if it wasn't for WOW.

Carbine is ex WOW devs and where they derived their inspiration from is quite clear. And that makes everything you say extremely ironic and sad .

Moreover you compare WOW to Apple then talk about WS as a new and better product even though it copies Apple (WOW) do you even read what you type?

You forgot to mention that WOW is actually a very fun and well made game.

I was just sharing my own personal experience with Guild Wars 2 compared to FFXIV. Sure Guild Wars 2 is not geared as much towards grouping as I would like, but there are not the same amount of restrictions as there are in FFXIV. You are not stuck in a story quest, you don't get stuck with people from another server on duty finder from what I can tell, and you arn't restricted by lvl difference.

Another thing that bothered me about the duty finder in FFXIV is that when you do the low level roulette you are stuck doing the same dungeons every day just to get a little more exp. That was a big reason I left the game because I would go crazy if I had to do the same dungeons over and over again with each class.

And we already told you that your personal experience isn't universal but you are somehow under the impression that it is.

Also i find it highly ironic that you call FFXIV anti social game and then go on to praise and enjoy the most anti social MMO that is GW2.

Clearly the problem is with you and not FFXIV.

Which ideas exactly? pet battles? garrisons? mounts? what ideas are you talking about? i have no idea where the hell did GW2 in come into picture here?

Also i would like to challenge your claim that GW2 brought 'new ideas' to MMO genre.

I love GW2!  Did it get housing, mounts, and even flying mounts?

Actually... to be fair the Garrisons are more similar to the GW2 "home" instance than traditional housing.

You people are really stretching it to fit GW2 in here even though WOW's garrisons got absolutely nothing in common with GW2. Please stop i beg you.

Ahh yes, never give up hope or the illusion that something you no longer enjoy is fading into obscurity.  You made the right decision in quitting!  The facts prove it! Your cutting edge dude!

WOW's retention rates have been abslotulty fantastic over these 10 years.

I still remember the remarks of this site back in 2007 that WOW would have less than 1 million subs by the end of 2010...

Even tombstone ran out of space after 2012. Someone start a new one maybe?

Absolutely false. The order for the dungeons is always the same. Satasha ,Tam Tara then Copperbell. What are you trying to pull with these lies ?

He clearly doesn't even play the game so don't expect any credible information from him. Some people just love to get up on soapbox and write lengthy posts.

That makes sense.

This is first day sales only. WOD is still not available in Asia?

I guess it tells everything about real numbers (for the first time ever, we have official info):

  1. Everyone who is currently playing bought WoD (show me one person who havent)
  2. No release in asia = asian numbers excluded (for the FIRST time ever!)

WoW real subscribers number: 3.3 million

Shh!. Thats a secret!!. Let just keep talking about 10 Mill of subs. more like will full ignorance and conveniently ignoring a huge part of player base because they are 'asians".

You got it right. Western players are such special snowflakes that they are the only 'real' players.

Asians like me..well we do not matter at all even though we pay more to play WOW than your paltry sum of fixed 15 bucks.

Roughly half~ of WoW's "subs" are from Asia where the entire market only makes up 6%~ of their revenue due to them counting every instance of someone logging into a character and paying fractions of currency by the hour as a subscriber.

The other half~ of the subs are the rest of the entire world, where it's more accurate to call them subscribers as they pay a monthly fee and are counted as a single individual.

This is common knowledge for some and mythology for others.

Source?  All over the internet.  More accurately, Blizzard's own Quarterly Reports.

That said, it *is* quite impressive how many people they got back into the game with this latest expansion.  That is, indeed, very impressive.  I take nothing away from that.

Good on them and for everyone enjoying themselves with the undisputed juggernaut that is World of Warcraft.

Someone pays fixed 15 bucks a month and plays  maybe a week and is inactive for rest of the month..he is counted as a subscriber.

Someone in China probably pays more than 15 bucks a month to play WOW and plays lot more hours too and everyone lose their head if he is counted as a subscriber.

I had to do it.....he forced me to look.....

Looking at the Subscriptions and Active Accounts with a peak above 1 million chart on

(all numbers approximate from looking at the wavy colored lines on a chart)

WoW (a paltry) 7.5 million (looks like pre-WoD)

AION a MASSIVE 2.4 million

Lineage & Lineage 2 a WHOPPING 2 million (combined)

SWOTR a CRUSHING 1.2 million

Runescape and OVERWHELMING 1.2 million

So....all of the non-WoW numbers combined are...let's see...carry the 2, put the integer somewhere over here....the decimal goes here...AH.....

6.8 MEEEEELYON Subscribers!!!  Yes that totally out does the WoW numbers by 700K!!!  Oh...wait....sorry.....*cough*.....that is 700K LESS than WoW.....pre-WoD of course....

Oh....and, the numbers for the Lineages were current as of.....hmm...2009

AION, SWOTR, and Runescape as of 2012.5

Wait...does that mean some of those are out of date?

Yup, I can see where he is coming from!!!  (Oh, I am sure I looked at the wrong info, etc etc......)

And...before the fanboy accusation comes out.....played WoW from Beta Vanilla through the Ghostcrapper ruination.  Wish I had never touched Catatonic and Pandaworld.  Don't play now....hate what they have done to the game.

Thanks for listening.

I'm still waiting for this to be addressed....

Don't count on it. That new account fulfilled its purpose.

This is what happens when you support such a shallow design like Wow and every game like Wow,it gives developers like Square Enix and impression that is what the majority want.

Square Enix was never like this,i believe they actually were clueless as to why all the negative feedback in the beginning, they refused to believe it was their RUSHED effort. So when they hired Yoshi to take over the lead,he went on a mission sending employees to other high success games and took from them those ideas. It had NOTHING to do with not being like Wow,people scoffed the original release because it was a streamline shallower version of FFXI,going directly towards a Wow design.

Well if you consider Wow once held 65% of the market and other WOWesque copies most likely another 20-25% you soon realize how easily influenced a developer would be.

I don't play FFXIV because it is imo exactly a WOW copy and that is also imo the worst possible design for a MMO and has little to do with ROLE playing. The Square Enix fans never asked for this,we wanted a FFXI with updated graphics and some tweaks to make the game better.Instead Square said it couldn't be done, too costly,so they set out to make a new game because that would warrant a full sale price.Problem is they invested Soooooooooo much money and time into the new game engine and configuring it to make it work, they had to rush FFXIV.

Long story short, they needed or felt they needed to cater to the biggest market and in doing so gave away their trademark which is creativity and lost a lot of faithful FF fans.

However in saying that, there is NOTHING aside from a VERY small handful of games that are not Wowesque linear games out there and the majority are supporting that.So take it or leave it,the big difference is that in FFXIV you are imo getting the best possible linear Wowesque copy with the best graphics,so why would anyone support a cheaper design such as Wow or the many other copies.

Considering the success of FFXIV compared to its older version which tried to be very creative you are so very wrong. If anything it gained more fans.

But i don't know why i am replying to you. You never post to participate in discussion? You use these forums as a facebook update or personal blog entry.

Make a post with obvious bait hidden in somewhere and then never look back at the topic again.

What do you think will happen to WoW in next 2 months? Report back in year or two would still be nonsense.

Obviously the population will decrease, but there is unlikely to be a significant drop in next...I dont know...decade?

Hardly.  Subs will likely go back down to what it was before and depending what gets released next year then subs might fall below the lowest point.  Really the market is total crap right now.  ESO failed pretty bad, same with Wildstar.  Next year we have Everquest Next and Star Citizen are the only ones off the top of my head that will most surely put a pretty big dent in WoW.

The point though the is the OP made this high praise of WoW reaching over 10 million subs which will be short lived.  WoD isn't all that great of an xpac, there are a number of glaring defects that in the next few months players will start realizing like they do with all new MMOs or expansions.

What is the lowest point?  because i have been hearing how WOW will have this steep decline since Cata's release and it never happened. And when now finally since WOTLK WOW has a very solid expac again it will hit its lowest next year?

You my friend never met 'logic' in your life.

Also please spare us with this 'new X MMO will put big dent in wow'. Just like...

and every other wannbe WOW killer out there right? Its been 10 years let it go.

The logic is very simple, WoW has over time had their subs reduce over time.  Did you live in a hole when during MoP that they had their lowest subs since its rise to power?

No but were you living in a hole when MOP was reported to be the most underwhelming expansion in 9 years? it wasn't receieved well at all so the decline wasn't that big of a shocker to anyone. But still by standards of any other MMO it did sell quite decently.

If you think that Star Citizen who has received enough funding to over a AAA budget MMO more than thrice fold then you're delusional.  And EQN.... wells its EQ for christ sakes.  Those will take a pretty big dent in WoW.

Yes i heard that during SWTOR launch ''it has a huge AAA budget it will topple WOW..if you don't believe me you are delusional'' and also 'it is Star wars for Christ's sakes'. Same hupla when ESO was launching. EQ next or SC are not any more or less hyped than all the previous big budget IP's.

Rift, SWTOR, GW2, and ESO have all taken their dents in WoW.  It's only natural that as decent MMOs come along people will leave as it suits them.  WoW's subs will bleed over time, its the natural order of things.

I never argued about natural order of things. Everything dies and withers away i know that. I was talking about your 'it will hit its lowest next year'..huh. really? just like that? you blurt something and its true? even when WOD is a much superior expansion than MOP and Cata?

Subs will go back to what they were a few months ago and as highly anticpated games release more people will leave WoW.  Every expansion sees a surge in subs but this is short lived.

Again not what my reply to you was about. It was about your illogical claim that WOW will hit its lowest point in subs means even lower than 7 million in 2015.

Don't blame others if you fail to grasp the logic that has been around for years and seen in the industry over the past decade.  WoW might gain some numbers higher than MoP but no where near their peak.  Everyone knows WoW has been in decline, while their subs are very health but the fact remains that their numbers have been declining and will continue to decline.

I actually think it is quite the opposite. If you learned anything from past decade as you 'claim' you did... you wouldn't make such random and outrageous claims. that WOW will hit its lowest point in subs in 2015. because i have been hearing that since Cata. no doubt it will someday will be very low much lower than 7 million but it won't happen in 2015.. that is utterly silly thing to say.

So all in all i think you learned nothing from past and that is why you are destined to  be proven wrong once again. And i am sure in 2015 you will shift the date to 2016 and so on.
