Basically like Ultima Online but in 3D. There, I said it and without walls and walls of text.

That's how I'm hoping it essentially turns out, granted it won't have the millions of items you can interact with and probably better AI for any mobs, but if it gets the UO basics nailed down then they'll be onto a winner.

I was looking foward to this game. But i dont like how they want to make is a complete free for all. With everything being able to be stolen and you can be killed anywhere even in cities. Sorry i dont want someone who plays 12 hours a day because they have no job or life stealing all my crap and killing me.

I agree, but then again I like the risk and danger of simply not knowing what's coming next. There will be consequences for attacking players in town, so it's not all doom and gloom.

Why the HECK cant someone make a sandbox game that is combat restricitve. People dont just run around and kill each other and steal there stufff. I want a sanbox world that is civilized. I hope someone makes one some day so i can finally find a sandbox game for me.

Ultima Online was arguably one of the most civilised MMOs, before they released carebear land (Trammel). We could have been murdering each other, but oddly a majority of players stuck within the rules and targetted other guilds. Eve Online has a few pirates, but a majority of the player base don't run about killing newbies all day, again it's about competition and for a majority of players that means good fair fights.

The developers will simply have to balance the game, give benefits for those that follow the rules most of the time, but then again not overly punish those that don't, part of the appeal for some players will be the sense of danger :)

Interesting slip of the tongue.  Review (and others) have stated the game is firmly in beta and due to release sometime soon [TM].

If you look at the first item in the news on the M.O. website you'll see that they're talking about starting the first phases of beta testing, it hasnt' actually started, so it's in limbo between the alpha post-dev testing and being suitable for public beta testing.

I'm with you in that I doubt it'll be out this year, but lets hope they release it when they think it's ready to be released and not early to get some revenue flowing, I've seen too many games prematurely released on us in the past few years! :)

Interesting idea,  especially if it were put in as a primary skill which was subject to a hard cap. They'd mean people essentially having to sacrifice something else useful to get a very high search skill.

Hey folks - Just wanted to point something out. The preview was written a few weeks ago and seeing as it's in alpha and a constant state of development flux, I wouldn't be surprised if things have changed so I appologise in advance if they have :)

I did try to get some new screenshots but I think they're too busy developing, so I think we can all forgive them. The latest screenies and footage was released after submission and looks fantastic though, really wish the dev team all the best in getting this one up and running to beta ASAP!

Nothing in particular made me leave, it's a perfectly good game. I just felt a tad bored with the same old grind for another 10 levels, then another 10 etc. Real life seemed more fun! Then I started playing other MMOs. Nothing "wrong" with WoW though :)

Reading the article has got me reinstalling this client after a long time, damn it

Completely agree! I am a fan of 3rd person view in games as I like to see my character, but it's not as if I don't enjoy games with only 1st person available, indeed in many I've prefered to play it like that, such as Oblivion and Fallout 3 :)

I wouldn't worry too much about the ratings for MO, it'll sort itself out upon release. At the moment I'm just wondering how Warhammer is keeping itself in the top 3 for released games, travesty if ever there was one.

Remember that although they're locking the game in 1st person, there's nothing to say that there won't be a small avatar on screen or in the invent screen etc that can show your actions. I'm assuming these are what you liked about seeing your character in 3rd person. I know it's not the same, but at least then you'd get an idea of your actions.

If you need 3pv, look for another game.

No if you need 3pv, give it a try when it's past beta and release and on free trial and see how you find 1st person.

I'm a fan of 3rd person views, but at the same time I'm also use to playing in 1st person too, Fallout 3 being the most recent game that got me back into the swing of 1st person. There are problems with having 3rd person views, most of which have been brought up already so I won't repeat them, but I must admit I do like to oogle my character now and then in games and see him/her in action.

The people who are wondering about character creation etc - remember the characters are more created for what others see, less so for yourself and in this game it's almost entirely about what your opponent and friends see as they're the only ones likely to see you in action! You never know, the inventory screens may show your character, much like most MMOs do, which for me would be enough :)

Lordmord - not enough. From what I've seen it's still a rehashed but tired looking interface with some new models. I've been tempted for a while to give the trial a whirl though, might well do that this week at some point. Sadly the ruleset hasn't been improved, I'd prefer pre-trammel.

I'd echo what vistakah has just posted but also add that these days there chat systems in game are made in a way to separate a player from general chit-chat, where it wasn't possible in the past. Anyone remember Ultima Online? no chat channels at all, if your character wasn't near someone, it wasn't really possible to talk to them, this forced people to talk and be more sociable.

These days with the separated and sectioned off chat channels and an enormous number of tip/questing sites there's little need to group or chat to anyone you don't know in a game unless it's for a raid. In which case you'll generally find people say "well thanks, night" the instant you're finished.

MMOs themselves are partly to blame, but I can't see any solution to this, if they reduce or remote chat channels people won't be happy, perhaps it's time to limit filtering and the number of channels, rather than splitting them so much.

These days I'd rather have spam in my chat channel than nothing! It's is a MMO after all!

Good advice by noquarter and dig.ital, I agree with both. However focusing on the laptop spec you've mentioned I'd like the point this out, as I have a similar one which is no longer use (just build a new desktop PC instead.)

You're laptop spec is fine, by all means go for the 1Gb graphics card, but I doubt you'll need the extra 512Mb onboard before you're needing a new laptop as the graphics cards chipset is dated. Also you will notice much, much slower load times with the laptop hard disk, even if you upgrade it to a 7200RPM drive it won't match most desktops.

Personally I'd spend a similar amount on a great desktop PC, it'd be an absolute beast!

You're post was almost certainly considered to be provocative and trolling by the forum moderators, who no doubt have to deal with dozens of such posts each day that are intended to do exactly that - get a bad reaction from the community.

You're best course of action would be to contact the forum mods by email and either explain your post and appologise and or politely for an explanation.

There is of course the chance that this isn't the only post that you've been banned for, we're only seeing one post out of however many you've made and perhaps it's the sum of them and the way you're posting that's lined you up for the chop.

The game certainly has the potential to challenge the World Of Warcraft in the Asian markets, but I'm doubtful that it'll have the same mass appeal in the US, EU and Oceanic markets.

I can't see it having any affect on the WoW gold farming accounts in the Asian markets though, there's always going to be a market for easy in-game money over here in the EU and US sadly..

It'd take more than that for me to go back again, I'd need a new interface/graphics update. I'm not saying full 3D but it'd have to be improved as it's simply too dated looking and the UI isn't flexible enough.

If they put some effort into the UI/graphics and gave us pre-trammel servers I'd go back, it's the only way though.

I'm the same, considering a return but not wanting to come back to dead servers (play in EU). Elder account so subs isn't an issue but I'm bored with WoW clones after playing Warhammer.

Disappointed by the MMORPG.com editors for having the "none of the above" option. It's fairly obvious that WoW fanboys will be hammering that option as well as people who frankly haven't played all of the games on the list.

Shocking that site admins would be so narrow minded as to put an option like that into a poll like this, makes a mockery of the entire poll.
