I don't understand how people have trouble with this game as far as controls? Instead of WASD you use 8426. I mean hell, if you didn't have to move the camera (which you can go to config and lock it in place so you really don't have to), you can play this game with just your right hand on the number pad of a keyboard. And honestly anyone who had experience playing FFVII or FFVIII on PC had the almost exact same control schema. And if that didnt work for you, you can switch to "compact" mode. This basically works your controls as if it were a laptop and not a desktop machine (thus not having a numebr pad) and your movement buttons woudl automatically be mapped to WASD. Also you CAN move the keys to where ever you want it. You just have to go to the config. It might not be ideal out of the box, but you can map crap to what you want.

Using your hot bards are not hard. You hold down Ctrl and hit 1 through 0 or you hold down Alt and hit 1 through 0 ... the original build of the game gave you 200 programable hotkeys (10 sets of 20 macros) and how it has been expanded to 4000. Do people have a problem with them because you can't point and click? I mean FFXI was my frist MMO so it is what I learned doing, is everyone just so accustomed to point and click that it is a challenge otherwie? I mean, when I do play a game with a P&C hot key configuration I sometimes will just his my ALT 1 through 0 out of habituation.

Honestly I think a controler is aweful, but this is coming from over 4 years of playing with a keyboard. I mean I have the game for 360 now (which I have to say looks so much better than the PC and I have a fairly highend box) and I bought a bluetooth keyboard for my xBox just so I can play FFXI on it. Macros are damned near unusable -- expsically if you are trying to heal people quickly -- targeting it slow and painful and you can't chat quickly at all even with a chat pad on your controller. Personally i'd get a keyboard to play this game.

LOL @ you, using third party programs dosent make you a cheat, the programs hes talking about do nothing more than add features that arent there, it isnt like they have a little <call> that goes off when an NM pops, or anything of that nature....

Actually.... in a recent article on 1up theyve talked about how a lot of the ffxiii related games will be ps3 exclusive, and in the ffxiii trailer itself it says for ps3 only in japan which is interesting.  I for one am very interested in what it is they are making, i would LOVE  EQ to EQ2 esque update, but i highly doubt it.  Also, i dont want to post anything regarding it until i know for sure, why even bother with speculation?

i have no idea what you're even talking about to be honest.... none of the things you've mentioned are viable alternatives to an xp party, epsecially considering that you have to be level 75 to take full advantage of their xp, and even then there are caps, and even then its smarter to group, this post has no relevance whatsoever, hmmm lets see should i get into an xp party that can get over 10k/hr or go spend hours in campaign and get a few k, it isnt rocket science the new stuff its jsut a fun alternative and a way to earn the new gear...... I will, however agree with some of the other posters about the problems with the game, but most of them are easy fixes that i cant believe SE hasnt already done, IE adding tanks.

ok so possible solution, someone said to go in and manually delete older versions of the game, problem is when i go to delete it it tells me i need permission to delete it wtf? im the administrator account on this computer and it comes up with a message saying give it permission, which i hit ok on and it still says i need permission, i hate vista so much....

couldnt find a forum for Mabinogi so thought id ask here, i keep geting the "Ectractiong failed" error when it ry and install the game,, any ideas why? ive downloaded it from fileplanet and the official website, i turned on the compatability setting for xp Service Pack 2, and run it as an administrator (since vista can be gay at times),  So any ideas?

Some of us are older then 14. We want a MMO PvP Warhammer game, not a game adapted for children. EA/Mythic is making a huge mistake trying to flirt with the WOW audience. Age of Conan had the balls to make something mature, and from what I heard It paid out pretty well. 

If Mythic stay on the current track, they fight over subscribers will be between WOW and WAR, not WAR and AOC. And considering the size of Blizzards wallet, there is no doubt who will loose.

First of all, SWG is total trash now.  Secondly i personally don't care about violence at all, if you corelate violence with maturity you've obviously got a 4th grade oklahoma education.  It is, however; slightly more satisfying when you can see the effects of your attack in a more visceral way. but at the end of the day if the mechanics arent there then it means nothing.

Ill admit, Im not a rabid fangirl, I played it for 30 days with friends that had been playing for a long time. I couldnt buy squat because of all the gold-sellers, fishing was boring me... and I didnt like the UI setup.

And yes, I was told in some not-so-nice terms that a bunch of stuff has been rectified in the game since then, so I apologized (and got trolled some more by others). Oh well.

The graphics are dated, they have some weird rendering engine that makes everything look fuzzy... apparently this can be removed by the res really high. But as dated and unimaginative as some of the character options are, they are some of the nicest looking ones in any game. Who doesnt love tribbles that can call down eldritch doom on their enemies and still manage to look cute? hehe

The UI isnt very intuitive, I agree, but its better if you realize that its ported from the PS2 final fantasy games, and wasnt originally an MMO (I may be wrong about this, but its what I was told). They could have made an actual PC-friendly UI, but its not as bad as it looks when you learn to type out commands instead of button mashing. ;)

as far as the ui is concerned, you dont have to type out commands at all, at least not after you make a macro for it.....

It sounds like you are sticking with the mouse and keyboard. It's seems like everyone is recommending a controller pad. How difficult is it using the mouse and keyboard?

 

Its much easier with just the keyboard and no; not using the mouse!  The 9-key pad controls all ur movements, selections,  zoom, auto-run, menus, targeting, etc, and the 4 arrow keys nearby controls the camera. 

 

Remainder of the keyboard is for typing, macros, & canceling actions with esc.

Not sure how playing with a controller is easier or better...yeah its a console game ported to PC, but bleh can't stand a controller unless I'm playing on a console....and yeah I've tried it before and its just not as good as the keyboard!

wow..... first time ive heard that lol controllers are so much easier, everything is right there at your fingertips, and comfortably ive tried using the keyboard and started cramping after about an hour, so for me its comtroller all the way

oh wow, awesome well im currently grinding a new character so we'll see probably going to go either brd or rng main havent decided yet love both classes plus brds just get grp invites so fast it isnt funny lol

Hello, i am currently returning from a LONG break heh.  Aside from losing everything i owned im a bit frustrated as i bought the 360 version and didnt think buy a keyboard (lawl @ me), was wondering if anyone can recommend a good wireless keyboard that works with the 360, thanks a lot.

im actually currently returning after not playing for about a year and im pretty pissed because my old characters and all my gear is gone :(.  However coming from someone who never got to 75 but had SEVERAL jobs to 40 or the 35ish range with thf being 63 i can tell you that this game is alot of fun, under the correct curcumstances.  The game is very group dependant, and thus you have the have the necessary not only bodies, but correct party roles which can at times be a pain in the ass.  To be more specific about the game, the combat is awesome, it is a bit slow but name another game where you are truly able to use all of your abilities in a single battle, or a game where you actually have to have some skill other than macro thrashing (especially as a thf).  The crafting is crap, outright, i love how the crafts arent there for everyone to see, you have to go look it up, keeps botters away; however, not a single craft is worth anything really until higher levels, i just wish you could sell your crafts to an npc for a decent amount but you cant even do that so its essentially a large time and money sink until the later levels.  This however can be counteracted by harvesting all of your own stuff but the ratio of time and effort to results you get from that is clearly in favor of the time/effort.   The job system is simply put awesome; however, i do wish the game consisted of more tanks and at least another viable healer, too often you find yourself unable to grind simply because you lack one of these two key individuals,, sure you can get  away with a war for a while, but eventually they are a DPS class, and the only healer is a white mage unless you have two red mages by chance, sure you can subsitute with a summoner, but it dosent work nearly as well until later levels.  Bottom line..... SE give us more tanks and healers, one healer and two tanks (one of which isnt even intended for that purpose) isnt nearly enough.  The economy, oh man the economy..... so effed up it isnt even funny, or at least when i quit it was, im currently in the process of leveling a new char to see whats it like now but i can say that prior to recently it sucked horribly, the only thing worth selling you had to do what other mmo'ers would consider instances, called BCNM in ffxi to get, or had to basically max out a character to kill the mob that dropped it. I read somewhere that you can now sell items to NPCS for decent amounts, if this is true, thats fucking awesome, would cut out the middle man for players, allowing for a steady economy (or at least steadier).  My only other issue i had was this game was the lack of a community spirit in the sense that unless someone needs to do the same mission or quest you're doing, theres no way in hell you'll get any help save from your guildies.  This can be particularly annoying when doing your AF quests, maybe it was just the server i was on, maybe it was just back then, and hopefully its changed a little bit, but that bothered me.  All that being said i still love the game, it just had too many problems for me to warrant playing it, ill keep grinding this new guy out and see how it goes though.

Actually appreciate the things you accomplish? Do crazy quests and missions that can keep you at the edge of your seat? Play in a real breathing world where anything and everything can happen? Looking for the greatest MMO experience you will ever have? This is DEFINATLY the one for you :)

Looking for a game that tries to waste your time every chance it gets? Do you enjoy combat so slow you can afk through a fight and no one notices? Shout for a group for hours and hours for your missions and quests? Well then FFXI is definitely for you:)

Sorry to be negative but FFXI can be a fun game but most of the time playing is spent waiting for group for something and not actuallly doing much.

Whats funny is, your points are only valid if you cant find a group, and im going to assume that you sat on your ass and shouted in jeuno all day with an LFG flag on instead of actually trying to put one together.
