OpenSim Minecraft But, that's all I know offhand. I host a Minecraft server. I can run 32 players concurrently (sp?) on a machine with a Xeon Dual Core, 4GB (2 Alloted) RAM, and a 50mbps connection. Minecraft is a fun server to setup. I setup all sorts of mods with Craftbukkit and have setup player shops and what not. It does pretty well. |

The joke was hilarious, but the rest of it sucked. ESPECIALLY the ending. I really don't like those guys' videos. |

This game has absolutely NO as in 0 as in Zilch, sandbox elements to it. However, even though I'm a big Sandbox fan and rarely enjoy anything else, I've already preordered SWTOR. |

It's one of those technologies that are very cool, but we won't see truely widespread use and it's full potential until we have a few more innovations come about. When we are able to have high res, transparent, and ultra-thin screens who's hardware matches the size of the screen; is when we will start to see agumented reality come to full use and reach it's maximum potential. As of now, it's kind of just a cheap parlor trick. It's neat, but not useful yet. Such as:

Unfortunately, we are still pretty much here:

League of Legends - 11.5 milion monthly.

Originally posted by Homitu I'm willing to bet that IP Boosts come in second. If you've ever purchased an extra rune page, it takes a long time to build it. IP Boosts can do it in half the time, but it still takes a while. I just got done building a new tank page. I kept my Glyphs, but all the others were changed. With 1 4win IP Boost that I got for free (somehow), it still took a good deal of time. I'm sure there are players who are HIGHLY competative who want to constantly test out new rune sets. 20,910 IP take a while to build up. That was just for 21 of the 30 runes. Of course, I also started from scratch becuase I buy alot of champs with my IP. I own something like 64 of them. |

Originally posted by thedarkess Not only that, but it doesn't take THAT much longer like alot of other F2P competitive. It only speeds it up 100% for X number of days. Games like World of Tanks make it to where you HAVE to spend money or be forced to waste the next 10yrs of your life grinding. (Not to mention special bullets in WoT) I have spent a few bucks in LoL and I think it's a wonderful game, wonderful company, and a very nice Cash Shop. I play daily. I got my 555th Win last night, I have 450 losses and quite a few ranked & Dom matches. |

The only true MMORTS I've ever played or even heard of, was Shattered Galaxy. It doesn't sound anything like what you described though. |

Originally posted by Tahamtan There is no money in it. There have been quite a few trials of worlds like SL developed after the major success and profits SL saw in 2005/6, but every-single-one of them either completely crashed, and crashed EXTREMELY hard (THERE, etc), or were cut off before they were released. The reason most were cut off before release, was mostly because SL has seen a decline so fast since 2005/6, that only the SWG NGE patch beats it. Big names got into the bandwagon too. Including Microsoft and Google both, as well as quite a few big but smaller names. All of them have cancelled their projects.
Sad, I really had high hopes for Blue Mars. I wish there was a game exactly like SL, but much more updated and with more quality. The thing I dont' like in SL is that nothing is real. I got pretty heavy into LSL, which is documented very well, but I didn't like the fact that almost everything you could do that was cool, new, unique, or sometimes just a standard feature to an item.......... was basically just tricking LSL into doing what you want it to do, rather than having direct access and the power to create what you really want. What I mean by this, is look at any Game/MMO Sim. It's all a trick. There are a few Golf Sims out there, take a look at them. The scripters didn't actually make a golf game, they tricked LSL into doing things that kinda seemed like a Golf Game. Where as in Blue Mars, you actually MADE a golf game, or a flight sim, or an MMO. The scripter/programmer actually had the power and ability to make what they want. |

Getting a ban on this site is simply inevitable. |

What the above poster said. I also suggest getting a cheap JoyStick if you're really into Helicopters. If you ask all the best pilots, the ones who change the game, they ALL use Joysticks. |

Second Life is pretty much it. There are lots of Second Life clones, but they don't have the userbase or economy that Second LIfe does. If you're just in it for the game itself, or simply creating things with no profit, then you might look into Open Sim. When I say "clone", I literally mean clone. You can use the same Clients SL uses: Official, Emerald, Snowglobe, etc. There was a game called Blue Mars, that was very very close to release that would have brought SL Type games to a whole new level. The game was about 75% done and allowed for alout more developer freedom, where developers could truely make games, sims, and pretty much anything they could think of. However, January 2010, they announced completely out of the blue that they were scrapping the entire PC Client and going for an Avatar based iPhone App. Don't expect to hear from this company ever again. I'm just glad the only time I invested in it was the few minutes I spent on the game and the little bit of time I learned what it was. I feel sorry for all those who invested money into the game. Server Space (land) was probably close to 100 times more expensive than in SL. |

Perhaps I should mention that I'm playing on PS3? Does that make a difference? PSN has always been bad though. I played Beta on PC with a Controller. @praymes, I installed first day of F2P. So, I guess it's been a couple weeks now? Something like that. I don't remember exactly when it was. |

I loved the game in beta, but I never subbed because it just wasn't the sort of game that warrants a subscription. To me, it's the sort of the game you pick up and play when you feel like it and forget about it the other 95% of the time. I've been waiting for it to go F2P for quite some time and was pretty stoked at the annoucnment a couple months ago. Since it's been F2P, I've been playing it but I can't say that I've really been enjoying it. The login queues, the slow load screens, and the lag pretty much throw everything out that makes the game great. One of the things I liked most about the Beta, was it was virtually lag free. The F2P is far from being lag free and it actually results in a pretty un-enjoyable experience. In this sort of game, I was surprised how they had handled latency issues to create a great game that was a fun action MMORPG, the likes of which we've never really seen before. Now in the F2P, the game is full of lag and it's to the point where it's not even enjoyable. Forget the part about not being able to pick it up and play when you get the urge, when you actually get into the game it's pretty lame to be in a fight beating some Cop's or Heroes butt, just to find out that you've been stunned for the last 3 seconds and are almost dead after the game catches up. I really can't believe they have ruined such a great game, by not giving it adequate servers to handle the loads of the players. I understand that F2P right now probably has more players than they will have in the next 6months, but you'd figure a long standing corporate giant in the MMO industry would understand that and prepare for it, to be able to retain free subscribers to spend money on the game. To me, it's like SOE is saying: "This game didn't make profit quotas. We'll give it a shot as F2P, but we really don't give a rat's ass about it. Play it if you want. Or the game will just die." |
