It's something that I would have liked to see but in reality it's far too much to do and separates the playerbase.

It covers a lot of the bases 

- as a vet from gw1 I don't mind if they value the old content at $10 forever because at least I know they are valuing it

- the offer is only open to pre-purchasers so it's made for people who are more genuinely excited for the game

 

I understand if you feel it might not be worth the 50 bucks but that is subjective. I mean I never expected to get 3 new zones, new items, dungeons and for me the most fun is the major events they do. I have faith that there will be a fair amount of post launch content which will more than justify the price. Does it justify the amount of content AT launch? *shrug* it's highly subjective. 

I'm too busy soaking in new lions arch atm. It's so nice not feeling obligated to play the game.

Many of you are misunderstanding the situation. 

You can no longer buy vanilla GW2 on their website. The only package that exists is $50 for HoT + core as a 'gift' to new players. You can't buy GW2 then later on buy HoT which is what many were lead to believe prior to pre-purchase.

So in reality we aren't paying for an expansion anymore. We are rebuying the full game at the same price as a new player (price is not an issue - its value) and while new players get a 'gift' of 5 char slots existing players do not have a cheaper 'upgrade' option.

Look, you're really going to have to get over it. 

You don't seem to understand what freedom of speech is. you're allowed to say anything you want but you're gonna have to accept the consequences of doing so. 

Maybe you wre the 2586th guy they banned because gloria victus was spamming bots on their forums.

In the GW2 forums clear rules are stated and if you break those rules you can be banned without notice.

It's possible that some players may have spent the initial 10 dollars and bought some gems with another 20-30 if they felt the need for some bank space. It may be a smaller percentage but surely there are some out there who felt it may've been okay to put a few bucks in. 
It's a decent action rpg with some nice variation to the end game grind / currency. There are lots of short and long term goals which are nice to fulfill for players of all kinds of caliber. The cash shop isn't too intrusive in terms of gameplay but you'll be pushing inventory space if you're a hoarder like me. While the action is nice I don't think there's too much in the way of theorycrafting in terms of builds. While some will look to maximize their skills and damage you can do end game stuff without having to wiki anything. 

You cite pay to win but the fact that I've earned T6 ships by doing dailies and earning enough dilithium to trade into zen to buy them proves that you are just jumping on a bandwagon. 

I personally think it's because the new lvling tier to 60 is just boring compared to before. I enjoy all the top level gear / faction farming and everything.

Nobody really plays PvP in STO because most players know that it's just a few players who have invincible ships and 2 shot others. We KNOW it's bad so we just don't play it. 

Hahaha - it's not worth $15 a month. It really really isn't.

Instead of hyping yourself up about an alpha state arse looking game you could just wait until they release the game and then determine if it is a scam. 

The question you are asking has no answer. It is a ridiculous question because the game simply isn't done. We can only tell you it's a scam when

a) the cash shop comes out

b) when people can put dollar values onto things inside the game

The question of whether it is a scam is up to you. Is wildstar a scam? No, but it certainly would feel like a scam to people who saw the game fall apart.

I think it's more of an evolution of online gaming. In the beginning the online games that existed were large mmorpgs with very deep and fairly steep learning curve. We didn't have a choice but to play these and like them. 

Later on when the internet became more mainstream games like diablo and star craft appeared. This brought a whole knew type of gamer to online play. They will hop in and out of games willy nilly and do whatever they wanted, be it trolling or helping or scamming. These types of games had very little consequence for screwing people over. In EQ or UO you lost MONTHS of grinding, in Diablo you lost a few hours at most.

Now let's time skip to broadband. EVERYONE and EVERYTHING has the internet now. Online gaming MUST cater to the markets. Now we have much more choice in terms of online gaming.

Slow relaxing teamwork? Minecraft or Starbound

Fast paced fantasy action? Vindictus or Tera

Slower paced traditional? Everquest is still around you know? WoW could be here too.

Modern Day fantasy? The Secret World

Modern Day? APB Reloaded

Steampunk? Pirate? Kung Fu? Ponies? Social? Fishing? I just can't be bothered naming them.

The difference is now people have different windows of playtime available to them. It would be nice if everyone had too many hours in the day and go farming for hours. In reality however older gamers (The guys who owned super nintendo and game boy original) now lack the time to play those. 

I like being able to play something for 20 minutes or 1 and a half hours and be done with it. I also like having a large MMO i can slowly progress through. MMORPGs are waning that is for certain, however MMOGs are far more abundant and accommodating for a larger audience.

The MMORPGs that come out aren't even bad by most standards. We're just picky.

That is the information that we got about SC, if they WILL stick to it - we don´t know yet, but why should they break their promises. We won´t know before the final game goes live.

 

Conclusion, the pay 2 win allegations are utter rubbish and serve nothing but a discreditation campaign, by who ever, no one knows but I leave that up to everyone´s imagination

TO put it all into chess:

GOOD chess AI: plays chess as it was supposed to be played

FUN chess AI: makes same moves every time and lets you win once you know what moves to counter EVERY time.

Now, why fun AI is bad: once you know the moves it gets uber boring very quickly and MMOs require you to repeat exactly SAME chess match dozens of times (even with non gameplay related hurdles and mandatory gear grind)

You should listen what he actually says. If you want any longeivety in MMO good AI is way to go, because among other stuff it wouldnt invalidate "old" encounters

He also says that in order to have FUN AI you have to leave lot of stuff off the table (thats where trinity comes in) so even before you start designing encounters youre already severly limited in what you can do - because of trinity.

the thing is that by swelling of other online genres (and sub genres) its quite clear vast majority of people prefer GOOD (human like) AI in their online games over DUMB (fun?) AI MMOs provide. So, that will be one of the aspects that will have to be rethinked if the genre is to be revitalized.

And thats directly tied to trinity as you can only have dumb AI for trinity combat system, smart AI breaks the trinity (just like it happens in PvP)

Er, MMORPGs aren't simulated PVP.  They're coop PVE games, which means they're functionally identical to singleplayer games (except you play as a team to beat the puzzle.)

Each boss is a puzzle.  Bosses do get old after a while, but bosses would be less fun in the first place if each one was a convoluted mess of abilities.

You're not "severely" limited in what you can do with the trinity.  We could exhaustively name all the types of boss fights which were possible under the trinity's ruleset.  The disticnt bosses would go on and on.  A lot of unique challenges exist, in spite of the mild limitation.

Of course trinity games are single player in a group beating a puzzle, thas how trinity works, every player has its own minigame to play. If everyone succeeds - good. No teamwork needed, no cooperation needed.

Bosses get old after you beat them 2-3 times, since you are required to beat them 15+ times....yes vast majority would rather watch paint dry.

You are severly limited. Try designing something that doesnt respect the trinity in trinity game. then come back and report. It gets interesting WHEN you use NON trinity related stuff and, well, you are severly limited in that, you know, framework of the trinity.

I can tell that you have never actually done progression raiding. You make several comments which are make that obvious. I am not proclaiming the trinity as the greatest thing ever, but your comments have no basis. Also, there has yet to be a better system implemented that allows for team play.

GW2 requires teamwork. You want to get healed? WORK for it, from positioning, to timing. Thats teamwork.

OTOH healer in trinity plays whack a mole and pushes few buttons.

You have no clue what youre talking about. And its obvious you cannot distinguish what is trinity and what isnt trinity. But thats a common problem here, so no worries.

Uhh maybe you don't understand what a team is? It is impossible to play a trinity game without a team. If you think healing is only playing whack-a-mole, then you never did progression raiding. I realize you are just making comments in an attempt to bait people, and I am sure most people realize that. BTW, GW2 didn't really require much teamwork until the last few patches. 

Its impossible to play trinity game (false, you can solo in pretty much every trinity game) without a GROUP. Yes, there is a diference you are oblivious to. And its a crucial difference.

Please, explain in great detail what anyone has to do to get healed in trinity game except healer presing 1 button.

Pressing 1?  Hahaha That is what you do with the majority of the content in GW2. Zerg, spam, rez! I am not bashing GW2s combat as it has complexity. They just have not made adequate content for it until very recently. There is a whole lot more to playing healer than pressing a single button, but again you prove my point in that you have no real concept of the trinity because you have never played it on more than a casual level. Unlike you, I can accept the fact that both systems serve their purpose and appeal to different folks. 

And you still havent answered a simple question:

What do everyone/anyone else need to do in trinity game to get healed except healer pressing 1 button.

Manage resources, determine who to heal, which heal to use and when, watch for chances to buff or perform a cleanse, react to the inevitable mistakes by the team members or DPS, move and react to the bosses actions....... Yep, that entails a whole lot more than just pushing 1...... Again, it is obvious that you never did any real raiding or heroic dungeons or you wouldn't have that opinion. That is why so many people disagree with you..... but then you knew they would, and you most likely have other motives for baiting......

I used maybe 3-4 skills to heal someone. Every other (useful) skill was just in case other people screwed up.

You keep holding progression raiding into your responses. I healed Naxx, Ulduar and Icecrown. It's whack-a-mole and I know it.

Sure I have to move once in a while and on RARE occasion (Emerald dragon dream boss) I have to heal something other than players but for 90%. In your MIND it is complex but in reality the healer has an easier job than DPS and tank. It's just that few WANT to the healer in may not be particularly good at it.

AAA MMOs are very risky ventures.

From a publishing perspective you can spend what 100+ million on an MMORPG. So when you pay people to make something that COSTS YOU ONE HUNDRED MILLION DOLLARS you make damn sure that it can make money. However the market of MMO consumers is weird and finicky.

Action combat? Tab targetting? Forced partying? Super hard bosses? Long or short raids? Open world crafting? Dynamic events of regular quest system?

Any decision that needs changing costs money. Any complex decision will cost more money.

This is why mobile gaming is a much more risk free venture. I honestly have no idea how much it takes to make a mobile game but I will wager that it is far far less than it costs to make an MMO. 

The cash return on the mobile game wins out every time (financially) because there is simply less risk involved for returns.

Hearthstone is a good example of not spending millions of dollars to make a game nobody will play in 6 months. The risk for them was minimal, the reward however speaks for itself.
