Come on folks , as the SWTOR defender  pointed out we are all being melodramatic. there's no reason to think this won't end well.

EA has a GREAT track record lately on the PC side , look at their successes on the mmorpg side.

They made a game that was supposed to compete with WoW sub wise ( in their own words) and managed to make it F2P in less than year.

Took SimCity franchise  and managed to get it rated as failing by most every major PC gaming website and magazine , even PC Gamer which usually takes a lot to negatively review a major publishers game raked it across the coals.

EA has a wonderful track record in the PC games lately and everyone should be excited right ?

u mean, the same anti - consumerist EA?

Nobody who played Glitch would claim the game "overwhelmed" them with choices.  "Empty" and "nothing to do" would be the words they would use.

You can't create an empty world with nothing to do and expect players to like it just because you slap a "sandbox!" sticker on the box.

So sandboxes underwhelm me with lack of choice.  I want a game filled with interesting possibilities, and they simply provide some terrain (or star systems) to move through very slowly and whatever tools they provide for me to manipulate that world are typically dull (if not outright tedious.)

Which isn't to say sandbox is a bad idea.  Just that you have to approach it more like Terraria or ATITD or Puzzle Pirates, where the world is manipulatable and that's what makes it a sandbox, but the moment-to-moment gameplay is enjoyable: it's a game.

There is no sandbox where choice overwhelms currently.  If you took Terraria and added 20 features which were all available from the beginning of the game, you would have a sandbox where choice is overwhelming.  But too much choice isn't the typical sandbox problem.  The typical sandbox problem is they're empty.  If there's barely any game, there's barely any choice.

This.  Sandbox idea is great.  In practice there really are very few meaningfull choices.  It comes down to a few tasks repeated thousands of times.  Very few gameplay options.

am i the only one seeing the irony here....

u just described a ... them..p..a.. urg..

You just pointed out the reason why themeparks can feel more 'sandboxy' then some of the games specifically designated as sandboxes.

why is he talking so slow, oh wait you must be like a tourist or something who thinks talking slower will make you saying it wrong make more ence.

anyway, i reallity theme park often give the exact same amount of choices that a sand box dose, it just also give a story you can follow to.

lets review, what peple claim a sand box should be is.

ability to roam anywhere freely ( open world)

crafting

player based economy ( no matter how messed up)

buil;ding ( ok this is one i think is required in sandbox for some reason other dont agree)

hmmmm looking at this list and i know ill get hanged for this, dousnt that descibe WoW minus the building aspect.

just saying alot of those "theme park" MMOs you can do this stuff in, heck i tend to do most of this stuff in them, my faverite kind of MMO is one that has both good story elements and sand boxy style game play o the side.

compare what u can do in UO with u can do in Wow for example.. ur statement isnt true. oh and the story is more a burden than bonus in my book, u know u are the special snowflake as much as any other guy running around. in a themepark u are just a faceless clone running to "endgame".

too late, just watched the video and its the same old beaten formula killtenrats fetch me some bear , the character seems to float around, its all static and lifeless, it rewards the player for every single thing, like walk 3 steps win 10xp, well nothing we didnt know before, its ... bad, bland and boring, its a kick in the nuts of the tes fans.

.........Leaked video................. Operation Damage control Status = on................
its not about CU or MJ pal its about attitude against the turd pool market, heck i donated only cause MJ speaked agains F2P market.

If you didn't know.. hackers are everywhere... scary I know.   The good ones tend to do large things.. sony, google, credit card companies, etc..

u want to keep them at minimum and dont give them any tools.

No, it's not the end of a genre, just the evolution of one.

This happens in most creative genres. You just find yourself on the side that doesn't like where it's going. Pretty understandable.

the word EVOLUTION is not an easy word to use, what is evolution for u may be a devolution for me.

im sure ure will see it.

allow me to do a sensible observation: mmos arent dying, mmoRPGS are dying...
this is rather good for insomnia.

I played a few hours today to check out it out.

As a game, it's about on par with the many mediocre F2P games already out there. If you like (mostly) Asian F2P titles, then you might be a gamer who could enjoy the game play.

So, if it's really just another mediocre F2P MMO, what about the "sex sells" hook? Well, I think they failed there as well. With the exception of the young looking Sentinels , (they are a sort of a half woman, half child hybrid), all the other classes share the same body type, which has huge breasts, meaty appendages, super wide hips and buttocks. If that's your type and you think you might enjoy the cheap thrills the game offers, go for it. For me, the body type isn't appealing, the lack of any variety seems idiotic and while the armors are certainly revealing, they are mostly ugly and unappealing. If sexy is going to be your distinguishing factor, you might want to appeal to a much broader range of what people actually find to be sexy.

IMO, if you want reasonably good game play and sexy, scantily clad characters, play TERA instead. It's F2P now and I always said it would be a game worth playing with out the subscription fee, well now you can. Less skin than SB and no officially supported nudity, but I find the character models and armors in TERA to be much more appealing than what this game has to offer.

Sex does sell and I'm sure someday there will be a breakout MMO that is a quality product and also successfully appeals to people's purient interests. For most people, however, this isn't even close to being that game.

u naughty little boy

From what I've heard TES and ESO will be so different that besides a few TES gimmicks it will play nothing like any TES game.  Seems shameful to call it part of TES.

Then you heard very wrong. Tell me what about ESO is not like TES?

Everything I've heard so far. Seems way to restrictive to be an elder scrolls game. What I loved from all TES games was the interactive world. ESO will be stage with props. While it looks like TES game ... it will be a elder scroll shell. Crack that shell and you'll see that it is the same MMO that  has flooded the market for the last few years.

Thats forum spew and no facts as to what makes this not a TES game.

1 Has TES lore

2 Has TES combat

3 Has TES World and and art style

4 They had to have classes its a MMO, but it has TES freedom of making your powers and class do what you want. So much so its almost a sandbox class system

5 You can now explore anywhere on one char, by most here that seems to make it sandbox lol

6 lots of features to encurage and reward you for exploring. More then most MMOs do

Thats just to name a few. Only thing you cant do from TES game is play any race with any faction. ESO is themepark but that is far from fail. Bad games fail, good games do well thats all.

Think about what they said about exploring the other area's, they only open when you reach 50 and complete all of the quests in your area....  And the content will be scaled to give you a harder challenge....

This about this.....  How is an area going to be harder for you?  But yet easy for them?  Because your not going to be in there zone your going to be in your own instanced version of there zone!!!

What TES game could you explore all the areas? None of them. This is a MMO and they are opening up the game so you can go anywhere and your upset because they are making 2/3 of the maps end game content? WHAT?!?!?!?!? You want to explore but kill grey mobs? As a MMO player you should be excited that not only you get to explore everywhere but the mobs will be worth fighting because it will take skill and you will be rewarded as the level you are. Matter of fact some of the best loot in the game will be earned this way. THATS A GOOD THING!!! (((eye roll)))

this argument is beyond ridiculous, when i bought skyrim i expected to explore all SKYRIM and they provided, u know, after all the title is ES:SKYRIM not elder scrolls:tamriel, extend that to all other titles, MORROWIND, provided, ...

Now the title is elder scrolls : online, i expect a fully exploration without restrictions of  all nations at any time, not "quest hubs lvl 1-10, with artificial barriers, overall a world not a stupid, bland, pointless themepark. "hey i want to be the hero cause mommy said im a special snowflake"

Is F2P working for SWTOR?

Returned after half year aprox and full of players everywhere. But true, there is only 1 PVE server even if updated to sustain more players at same time.

But wondering what you consider under "working"? For me F2P in any game mean horde of cheap people, usually with bad manners, not caring about anything ... in worst case will recreate new dummy account.

F2P is ruin for QUALITY gaming. Period.

u just fell in a funny forum trap.

I am not going to mince words: thank (f) you, EA. You finally have destroyed what little spirit and hope that I had in gaming. Only EA could do this to Sim City.

I am writing this . . . and I am free. I am completely and totally free. I no longer have any games to look forward to. I no longer have to worry about upgrading my PC. I'm done.

EA set the model for gaming (the model being ripping off your customers). Blizzard set the model for MMORPGs (dumbed-dumb, predictable, cartoonish).

IT. IS. ME.

EA, Thank (F) You!

I AM FREE!

HENCEFORTH, I shall no longer follow the development of any games. Thank (f) you!

if u truly mean this, wise decision. dont mind ppl saying u are a drama queen, they have a big EA *ick deep in their ears; they think u are really mad while u just quitted in cold heart. btw boycoting EA too here.

was dming an AD&D 2nd edition campaign with the warrior book in 1999-2000. A friend of mine was roleplaying a gladiator in a wasteland rocky region where goblin arenas were commom. in his first fight in the crude, dusty and crowded arena (with goblins, ogres, and shady characters beating the crap of each other as spectators when the matchs got good), his patron, a scoundrel of desert, gave him a ring "hei shcneider, if the things get ugly down there pronounce these magic words "katapimba!".

so the fight began and the adversary was a boastfull orc warrior, after an evenly match, he decided to use the ring - KATAPIMBA! - for the delirious and joy of crowd he was turned into a chicken! lol. and had to escape the chaos as one........." Thanks gary cant say with words how much we apreciate ur art.

this is only proof of the FPS players invading the mmorpg genre and slowly taking out the RPG aspect.

Ppl that dont have a effing clue about D&D.

In D&D in order to a mage cast a spell he needs to be concentrate  while making certain hand gestures and movements allied with words with perfection for the spell work. IT s NOT A FART OR A BURP its a SPELL with spetacular effects.

u adhd kids and ur twich combat, go play COD with retarded kids where u belong.

RED: I hate to argue with you, as I did in fact argue the same point earlier in thread (using magicians from fantasy novels as inspiration), but in 3ed and 3.5ed there were feats mages could take that allowed them to cast spells without gestures, sound, reagents or even removed cast times! - The one thing that rings true is that the magician had to be able to concentrate still, so this could barely be pulled off whilst on the run from a fireball, or if you were knocked out...

However, in the same edition, certain rituals and crafting attempts for example required several hours of concentration! Meaning that wizards who flapped a butt cheek to fart would ruin that attempt! So yes, there were exceptions to your rule, but ultimately in terms of storytelling, you are correct.

correct me if im wrong, but these feats are cumulative for a single spell?

if memory does not fail me u can cast a fireball without reagents or without gestures or without sound,  but not all of them in a single spell.
