Everyone knows by now that Wildstar is going free to play and I think that its a awesome decision. Its a really good game but has a small player base and this will open the doors wide open to those willing to try it out. I've have plenty of guildmates from other games try the free trial with me and said that they would love to play it if it goes free. Now that its about to happen I figured wildstar would be the next big move for us, until I saw the free limits. Sub players get more exp, gold, auction house slots, etc. All reasonable stuff.

Until I see you can't join a guild or do warplots on free accounts and then im like wtf. Why!? It makes no sense. Having a sub is suppose to give rewards like extra perks while and while not playing but taking away guilds and warplots from free players is a punishment. I mean guilds is a major social aspect from a game meant to be focused on interacting with other players. Now no one wants to play anymore because we were all excited to play a new action mmo with our guild tags held high and you put this pay wall in front of us.

I know what a lot of you are thinking. I'm just whining because im too cheap to pay sub. Not it at all. I've paid the sub and am willing to pay again. Only reason I stopped playing was because the player base was so little. If I had a better group of people to play with, "my cross game guildies for example" I would still be playing it today.

But back to the subject at hand, this pay to join guilds and to do warplots thing will deter a lot of people. People that are needed to bring this game back from the grave. Its not like the sub would be worthless if these "perks" were given to everyone. I mean these are major pieces of content in the game. It shouldn't only be giving to those who pay a sub.

That's all I wanted to rant about, please give your thoughts on the subject plz.

10 year in and people still are surprised that "Free" to play games aren't actually free.  Boggles my freaking mind...

That's a generalization.  F2P players don't expect everything free.  They see a distinction between free access to the servers, and free gameplay features.  The former is expected, but the latter is what most people voice their opinions about, especially with comparisons to other F2P titles.

If the restrictions are too extreme, then people won't even bother playing it.  Look at how much ridicule Swtor got for restricting hotbars.

I personally have never understood the logic of Hybrid Free To Play models. If players were willing to pay a sub fee to play the game, it would not have gone F2P to begin with.

I would also not be shocked if the "Bonus" XP and whatnot given to subs is actually the Pre-F2P XP rate, while free players are getting a lower rate than that.

These forums never cease to amuse. OP is completely out of his mind if he thinks people will pay 35 bucks a month for ANY game, no matter how good it is.

The nostalgia lords on this site, and in the MMO community in general, need a huge wake up call. The age of Sub-Based MMOGS has passed. No game trying to break into the market is going to have a sub fee and be successful, period. The reason games like WoW and EvE still use sub models, is because they already have established, loyal fanbases, and yet even the mighty WoW is bleeding subs like crazy.

And this may be a bit off topic, but to the same group of people: Stop demanding that developers makes games based on your rose-tinted view of the "Golden Age" of MMOs. Number one, those games probably aren't as good as you thought they were, and even if they were good back then, it doesn't mean those same gameplay mechanics have aged well. Number Two, when your demands DO get catered to, you never put your money where your mouth is. For a perfect example of BOTH, look at what happened to Wildstar, a game made specifically to appeal to old school WoW fans who hate the current state of WoW (A.K.A An alarmingly high number of the frequent posters on this site.)

And this goes double for the EQN haters that think the game should be exactly like the original Everquest. I'm sorry, but isn't the #1 complaint about the state of the MMO industry is that basically every game since 2004 hasn't bothered to break from the EQ/WoW formula? And yet you sit at your computer and demand more of the same?! Gee, I wonder why the MMO genre is at death's door.

?_? I need a drink.

LOL, we need a wake up call? Because we know what we like and want it?

Now I do not begrudge any of you who like the current crop of games out there, have fun .... have lots of fun.  But do not expect me to like them because you do.  I know what I like and what I am willing to spend time and money on, and they are not it.

I do not demand that developers make games to meet my expectations, but I do post here and elsewhere saying what it is that I want in the hope that games like that are made. Oh and by the way, Wildstar was not it, it was a SciFi game with lots of AOE dancing not interested in either.

I do not hate EQ Not!, what I do say is that as it is not an Everquest game they should call it something else.  I do not think it will be released, and if released will fall well short of the Dave Georgeson hype, but if you like what may be released go for it.

Oh and I for one would be more than $35 a month for a game I thought was worth my time and money. IF it was good enough I would pay $100 a month a think it cheap entertainment.

Finally the game I play at the moment is P99, that's right Everquest as it was before it got "improved" to death.

Hey, if you enjoy P1999, more power to you. Quick question for you: do you think the current population of P99 would be enough to keep an MMO financially afloat in this day and age?

You see, the problem with an MMO, is that it doesn't matter if YOU like it, what matters is that LOTS of people like it. You can like whatever kind of MMO you want, but if there aren't enough like minded people, the game won't last. It sucks, but it's the truth.

Why should the paying and non-paying not be segregated?

Dividing the playerbase is just a bad idea. Without the free players being able to access content, the paying players usually don't have enough people to do the content they want, so they leave, and it creates a sense of elitism in the community. When paying players treat free players like crap, the free players are less likely to stick around, which leads to less free players turning into paying players, which means even less players for paying players to play with, so more paying players leave... repeat until the game shuts down due to lack of funds.

As a patron, I seem to recall getting a ton of gifts which those that quit didn't... Divine Gifts! I know it has been a long two weeks since these were given but did you all stop long enough to think of the value of the total of the divine gift event far, far exceeds what was given in the gift pack?!

No surprise though from a playerbase of self entitled children. Selective memory goes hand in hand with the me, me, me generation.

Right...  It is the playerbase that is the problem.  Trion has absolutely no ownership of any issues with the game.  Thanks for clearing that up for us.

Maybe if the player base decided to "choose their battles" better and didn't make EVERY issue a hill to die on, I would have sympathy. From watching this same playerbase since release, all I hear is bitch bitch bitch no matter how large or small the issue. So in my world there is no credibility left for them, sorry.

Being able to play this unique, deep, feature rich game is enough reward for me.

The playerbase has every right to complain about how poorly this game has been handled. Maybe if Trion and XL weren't a bunch of drunken circus clowns, this game might have had potential, but instead we got a textbook example of how NOT to make a Sandbox MMO.

You go ahead and enjoy the game. At this rate, it won't be around for much longer, and your attitude is not helping matters.

It was scrapped because it was a terrible, tedious, and heavily disliked game mechanic.

There's a reason "Grinding" has negative connotations, and mob camping is grinding at it's worst.

Caaaalllleeeed it!

Anyone who thinks this game isn't going F2P is in denial. In fact, given that they've pulled the 6 month sub, and pulled all time cards and boxes off shelves should give you a time frame. They are working on the code for the new model as we speak, if it isn't done already.

It's happened time and time again. The idea that sub based games can still thrive in this day and age (That are not WoW or EVE) is wishful thinking at best. They are just milking the sub money for as long as they can because they know there are people who hate the F2P model so much, they are willing to pay for a Sub-Par game just to avoid them. And once they dwindle to the point where it's no longer profitable, they switch the model. You should all be familiar with this pattern by now.

Shadowbane tried this. It failed spectacularly.

Oh good lord, they were bragging about the fact that they were cheating, LIVE ON TWITCH, and suffered no consequences.

I... I... I just...

I knew things were going to be bad as soon as I saw how they planned to divide paying players and free players. I never would have expected this. IT IS GLORIOUS!

You know, I'm gonna be sad when this game is gone. This is more entertaining that the launch of SWTOR.

As someone who actually used Xpadder back in alpha, for a brief period at least, I can assure you that Xpadder had nothing to do with how you were banned. Trion's bot detection system is just that bad. You aren't the first person who got randomly banned for no reason, and you won't be the last.

If I were you, I'd avoid this game like the plague.

Carbine is going to have to drastically change their game in order to get people back, which will likely alienate their entire target audience. It's an interesting position they've put themselves in.

How does one abandon an audience that does not exist?

Aaaand this is why I jumped ship when the 1.2 patch notes hit. I knew this was going to happen. Ugh, shame to watch all that potential flushed away...

As someone who played the Alpha extensively... I don't think AA is going to have lasting appeal for either sandbox or themepark fans.

As a fan of sandbox games, I found that over time, the comprimises made to appease the themepark audience ended up killing my enjoyment of the game. Sure, when  you hit endgame and have a huge ship and a guild castle and all that, it's awesome... untill you realize that it ultimately doesn't mean anything. Some more land and some fancy duds, and that's about it. Owning a territory gives you no real control over the region, no rare resources you can claim, no ability to drive off the mobs and "Reclaim" the area like the lore says you are. It's an expensive status symbol with some minor perks.

The war between the two starting factions never amounts to anything substantial, consequences for bad behavior are a slap on the wrist at best. (I was a member of the pirate faction and never once did I meet a player there who hadn't gone pirate on purpose. The infamy system is a joke.) Players have no real reason to fight each other outside of overseas trading, and even then a lot of players just abuse game mechanics instead of actually fighting half the time. (Camping your own fatcion's ports to kill other players because their teammates can't defend them, guards be damned) Not that it matters, because last time I was playing the open seas were a ghost town.

This game looks like a sandbox game. It wears a sandbox game's skin. But it is not a sandbox game. It is a themepark with a smattering of sandbox features, most of which have been done better in other games. Hell, Everquest 2 had sandbox features that AA doesn't, and EQ2 is the FURTHEST thing from a true sandbox.

The problem with most FFA sandbox games is that they treat their game as a PvP game first and an RPG second. In most Pen and Paper RPGs, yeah, you CAN wantonly murder someone for lulz... but you probably shouldn't. First issue you'll face is the city guard bringing the hammer down on you. Then, if you survive that, chances are you'll have your assets seized, so say goodbye to anything you owned that existed in the territory of the faction your wronged. (houses, investments, contents of your bank.) Then you have to deal with bounty hunters and guard patrols trying to find you.

When I play a FFA PvP Sandbox RPG, I expect a roleplaying game with freedom, not Call of Duty with swords. Gankers should be punished for killing people for no reason, because that's MURDER. (In the game world.) A well designed game CAN have FFA PvP without becoming a slaughterhouse.

An MMO based on a new, untested SiFi tv show. No one could have predicted this game would end up in desperate straits...

Oh, who am I kidding. Even Trion saw this coming from a mile away. Probably just trying to recoup losses from having to cancel End of Nations. The game didn't turn out as bad as most licensed video games, it was actually a decent effort at a game marred by contractual obligations (TV Tie in stories taking development time from other, more important things.). Unfortunately, "decent" does not cut it in the MMO business, not even in the F2P market.

On that note... is the TV show itself any good? Considering it's on the SiFi network... might explain a lot about the game's current state of affairs. =/

The Alpha is translation basically, but the game has a voice acted story line (cutscenes included), as well as misc NPC chatter. Literally (I'm an Alpha Tester), there are a bunch of NPC's that will say stuff as you walk past them. The game is very voice oriented. So that requires voice actors as well. I get them selling Alpha, but the money goes towards hiring the actual actors to completely voice over the game. Everything in this game is voiced over other than the quest text.

Top of that, there are random 3D errors, crashes and issues. Those need to be resolved as well. Trees stutter, some trees are completely black, there are texture stretching, etc. The game is literally in a Alpha state.

And that's just the tip of the iceberg, really, there are still TONS of bugs that need to be fixed before this game is ready for primetime. Adding to what you listed:

-The physics engine right now just cannot handle being on a moving ship. Be at sea long enough and you will see the physics engine crap the bed in some truly bizzare ways. (Shipnado, anyone?)

-Freedich island, the small island in the middle of the map that everyone fights over for trade rights, is very much unfinished. Clipping issues all over the place, some objects in the area randomly decide not to work, and it's trivially easy to fall through the map.

-Clipping issues in general, especially in the northern continent and in the Western Prison.

-Several dungeons do not work.

-Pig tails seem to stretch infinitely.

-Massive performance issues with DX11.

-Memory leaks

-Castle sieges are broken

-Classes need major balance work (Gods have mercy on you if you play a Melee charatcer, as the casters will not)

-Many things in the game are not translated yet.

-Many quests don't work.

Make no mistake, this game really is in an Alpha state right now.

For those that were so upset and irrational about the scamming incident that recently came to light, from a blog post >>> here: Jester Treck.  Turns out that Sohkar, the guy that got scammed says that everything is cool...that he realized he made a stupid mistake and fell for it...then went on to apologize for his behavior...admitting he was tired and "just lost his cool" over being scammed and was more upset with himself that he had done such a stupid thing.      He says he was no "victim" of torture or anything of the sort and he wishes people would stop saying that.

He never wished this to be made into such a big deal...turns out this article was made by an EVE CSM that has an issue with a few players in EVE and he figured if he wrote about this incident he would garner people to his cause.   Sohkar was never a part of it...this CSM did it on his own accord without Sohkar's concent.  Well it now seems to have backfired and people are requesting that the CSM be removed.    Funny that.

Sohkar by they way managed to get back up on his feet, in game, in a couple of days after the incident- when he made 300m ISK from a salvage job.

If you think I am BS'n you and this is all made can hear a live chat on Twitch TV right now between Sohkar and Erotica1.

Live Twitch Chat Happening now.

I'm struggling to understand your reasoning behind wanting to defend and assist these scumbags.

It's a natural human response to traumatic incidents to downplay them and want it to just go away. Ask any woman who has been assaulted. These guys are pure bred 100% scumbags and their behaviour is the lowest possible denominator we have. Condoning this is beyond belief.

Crowing that in fact the guy who blew the whistle on this behaviour may himself be in trouble over this places you exactly amongst these guys as scum. Are you sure you want to identify yourself publically as such?'s a game for Titus Flavius sake...stop making more of this than what it is..seriously.    Some of you are such drama queens.

Yeah yeah..when everything else fails hide behind 'its just a game' excuse.

Yes, because things that happen in EVE effects the "real" world and Universe.     ::rolls here eyes::

Yeah ofcourse because those are not real human beings you are interacting with right? because its internet so one can be a complete douche and  say whatever he or she wants.

Keep digging that hole deeper..soon you won't be able to climb out of it.

If that is truly how you feel about games, maybe you shouldn't play them.   I mean, and some others must really be a sad lot if games effect you that much.   So how often do you go all raging when you die in a game - all the time or just once in awhile?

So because it's "Just a game," we should ignore the fact that these guys bullied a man, who probably had no idea what he was getting in to, to the point of borderline psychological torture? It's all in good fun and shouldn't be taken seriously, right?

You are a complete scumbag! How do you sleep at night!?

I, like many on this forum, found it to be a sub par WOW clone with a bit of fluff added together with spamfest PVP.

If you get chance to try before you buy then definitely do so. With all the hype me and the majority of my Guild were looking forward to this and having it as our main MMO, but after the BETA 90% decided that it was no longer for them. Even SWTOR had a better reaction and that had to be one of the worst MMO's I ever had the displeasure of playing. WS will go the same way.

This game will be FTP within a year.

YOu said Spam PvP

O.O What the hell was that?!

I thought my Shadowknight in EQ2 was God Tier.... this... this is on a whole other level of broken. The team behind wildstar seriously looked at this and thought it was balanced?!  I've seen less broken things watching X-Tier MUGEN fights on Saltybet.
