I'm re-thinking this as well. Looking else where. See what else I can dig up lol thank you for ur help guys.

Yeah, beats getting scammed by sites like that. Amazing that they're still around, and proud of it.

Liking it so far. A whole lot more promising than season 1, even if season 1 had it's good moments. It's still early in the season, no reason to use big words just yet.
I'm using Google Chrome, and I'm not seeing any WS adds at all. Knights Fable is flashing away and that's somewhat annoying but whatever.
Let's see how this works on the phone.
9/10 for one reviewer who got to level 20 and did his first dungeon and found that awesome (as most do). That doesn't quite cry longevity just yet. Grains of salt, don't leave home without them.

I you have all 3 installed, then GW2 is probably best to kill some time. I'll assume you bought GW2 already so expenses should be minimal. Megaserver technology so you'll never feel alone in the world. Multiple leveling paths with different races, so you can spend a good deal of time. Endgame gear is a bit of a grind, either crafting or running dungeons. After that there's little else to do but WvW or get new gear for their appearance or level another character race/class. Combat is a bit twitchy, you may or may not like it.

Living Story Season 2 should provide you with new stuff to do every couple of weeks. If you play almost 24/7 then that won't be enough to keep you hooked for more than a couple of months though.

SWTOR is a bit of a harsh leveling experience if you don't sub, but if you do sub then story driven leveling is great. Endgame is Meh though. Playerbase isn't too shabby. You can do all classes as a subscriber, might be something for a few months even if only one or two classes have a story worth playing IMO. Combat is pretty generic, but looks quite good. I like the lightsabre as a weapon and the SW universe looks good. HERO engine is the limiting factor here in terms of gameplay. If you can get over how robot-like and boxed in everything is in this game, and you like the SW universe, then why not?

RIFT, small player base but aimed towards Raids as endgame, so if you like that in WoW this could be the one for you. Linear leveling, smaller world than WoW, a bit better graphics than WoW, but very similar in terms of combat. You're classic fantasy MMO really. They try to be different from WoW, and there are differences, but if you're going to go back to WoW anyway, then you're probably better off trying something different for a while.

I guess for a F2P it's a pretty good free ride for a while. I'll have to check it out some day. I can't see myself leveling multiple heroes though, not from the sound of the comments above. Repetition rules it would seem.
Most of the promises were kept eventually, but not all. Still, Great game and looking forward To Living Story Season 2.

Why wouldn't WoW players be interested in a sneak peak at the latest version of their game? Graphics overhaul is long overdue, hopefully performance won't suffer too much.

It's not hard to believe when you're talking about about the undisputed King of the Hill.

The most popular mmorpg on the most popular mmorpg site, dying...

Kinda makes me think more people visit this site than us regular posters.

If you're going to call ESO the most popular MMORPG you're not really all that worried about the truth now are you?

Unless you've got a new definition of popular of popular of course.

Here's my 2c from a long time DAoC, WoW, WAR player.

Stopped reading there...

ESO is totally different than those 3 you name. ESO was build to be a PvE MMO all around questing, while the ones you played are made with PvP in mind.

If you really stopped reading after the first line, then you should have seriously considered not posting anything for a while, a long while.

I never really could get into GW1. Low level cap, no jumping, henchmen, solo game with coop possibilities. I love GW2 though, even if the first Living Story Season was more miss than hit. I find it far more enjoyable, love both the PvE and PvP, sometimes some WvW solo or small team or mindless zerg. Whatever I feel lilke that day.

In GW1 I never got past the solo experience. It just wasn't dynamic.

Just 4 professional reviews in at this point, things can still change considerably.

Nowhere does it say ESO in the article. Nice one OP... More than slightly misleading.

The Maryland-headquartered company is working with recruitment firm Kelly to hire the staff for its European headquarters in Galway

The company is to hire 70 French speakers, 30 German speakers, as well as 150 English speakers to support players of its popular online game.

Give it a rest bcbully, sheesh.

P2W Siege laglord version 2, starting in 3, 2, 1 ...

The graphics look better at least, not sure I'll even bother with the download, I probably won't even.

If it's good, it'll still be there in a year or so, and maybe it won't have turned into a P2W gankfest, oh wait that's what turns on the whales and brings in the money, or so they seem to think.

Not going to spend a fortune on a bloody game, and since I know who's running he show, I'll content myself with keeping loose tabs on it for nostalgia's sake.

Expecting mindnumbingly boring grinds for ever more powerful gear that'll never match what you can buy from the slot machines.

Spend $$$ for a chance at some very L33T gear and then some...

Yeah right, never seen companies before that were willing go that low, not until WebZen took over the show at least.

F2P is probably the future, but there is a downside to the whole premise. Monetization, that's the whole problem. People get greedy. At first they can even have a great game, but in the end it's all about the money. You'll always have the nagging feeling of "when are the going to release that dreadful patch?"

With F2P, they owe you nothing and everything is "fair". And while F2P doesn't have to be a bad thing, it often is in the end.

I don't think monetization is a problem at all.  Developers have to make money and players get to choose which games they want to play.  When things go overboard, players stop playing and go find something else to do. As you said, developers owe you nothing, but you owe them nothing either.  You choose if you're going to avail yourself to the cash shop or not.  Nobody forces you to ever use it, nobody forces you to spend a red cent and I think a lot of people play these games with entirely unrealistic expectations.  They expect that they can compete with the whales without spending any money at the cash shop and that's not going to happen.  It doesn't make the game bad, it just isn't something that you can earn without the same kind of cash outlay.

Of course, if you do what I do and stop being concerned about competing with anyone else, stop trying to be better than everyone else, just play the game and have fun and enjoy the time you have in the game before you move on, then all of that dick waving nonsense becomes irrelevant and F2P is every bit as fun as P2P, probably moreso because you're not worried about having to spend all of your time in a game that you're paying for, you can relax and just have a good time.

Sure, you can go from F2P game to F2P game without ever spending a dime, but if everybody did that there would be no more F2P games, period. If you start spending money on the game however, you have to know when to stop. It can be a slippery slope.

Well there you go. Knowledge is power! :)
Is ESO as groundbreaking as SWTOR and AoW are? You seem to be heading from one "groundbreaking" MMO to the next, never finding one worth sticking around in for more than a year. Will ESO be any different?

My personal view is that your personal view is inaccurate.

I didn't read after the first paragraph, please provide proof and then I can finish reading your other 5 paragraphs. Thanks.

If you can't even be bothered to read an opinion without proof of that opinion, then why are you here? Just to demand everybody proves what they think? This is a discussion forum. I think you're better off just deleting your account and moving on.

I normally see a 50% retention rate in new MMO's so the OP's 74% is pretty good.

The fact that you have a 500 player guild is another issue altogether and probably also contributes to players not sticking around.  People like to be recognized names and not just bodies.  That's just a personal opinion of mine though and probably doesn't fit well in MMO's where numbers are important.

That 74% is kind of a skewed number since it is not a typical guild like other MMO's. It is a trading guild and being a part these type of guilds are a must in ESO if you want to have any shot at a semblance of an economy. Because if this, people aren't going to leave nor are they going to a be a tight knit community with personal accolades and recognition since the guilds are really there for a purpose and not a community. Had this been a normal guild the numbers would not have been nearly that high and the turnover rate would have been more severe. As it stands with no auction house or system like in the Final Fantasies, you are required to join one. I was a part of a guild that was not a trading guild and instead focused on PVE and PvP and we were only about 60+. Many of our members also were a part of trading guilds that they really didn't associate with other than to conduct business and I know that there was a sharp decline when the first month ended and I assure you it wasn't 74% retention.

So the probabilty of that 26% having actually left the game is higher than using the retention of a relatively small guild as a guide to estimate the retention of the game. If what you say is true, that being a part of a trading guild is a must, that is.

It's also possible that people who are a member of a trading guild, are more invested in the game, than your average player.

Either way, it's better than what I'd have guessed.
