Since they fixed 37 of my 54 bug reports in under 24 hours, I expect it was given 'due consideration'. They DO seem very responsive to the player base.

I thought they had said it was intended this way in the Beta forums. Basicially, IF you want to spend the time running back and forth, go for it, was the attitude...

BUT I posted in the Beta forums that I thought a limit should be placed, like 100, OR other races should get the same option....

I sure hope that someone does it. A part of my joy in MMORPGs is the ability to set your own goals together with other people and work towards achieving them, no matter how silly or insignificant other people may find them.

I agree, I don't care if they ONLY play long enough to get to 80, IF they had fun doing it, then it was money well spent.  hee hee

BTW, I know crafting is BOTH profitable AND fast XP in GW2. I mostly farted around and did actual beta testing this time, some 54 bugs reported, right up until the last 12 hours. Then I crafted Huntsman from 0 to 175, and gained 6 levels and round 5 gold doing so.

I like that 41-50 is beating out 18-22 by nearly 18% ....

The funny thing is they are puny compared to real giants in the guild wars world. You'll see some in GW2, well, half giants... Asura are the size of their big toe.... LOL

Originally posted by jeremyjodes It is always assumed regardless of the various helpful links and information about a game that has a leveling system and has classes with character progression by leveling content, that there is some form of "end game" content. what people are asking is what they will all ask...where is the "content" at max level that provides me with the top gear in the game. As it stands right now, most people who play MMOs don't consider the "journey" endgame. and it's not. but they desire to rush to max level to see what system's are is in place to attain the best gear for their character to be comepetive. If a developer in this day and age fails to provide the people spending money on their MMO some form of end game progression, then they leave. look at SW:TOR for an example. What happens when the "mass exodus" starts is, players start posting on forums like this, and the the games forums and word of mouth they create from being misinformed about a games systems or allowing "self hype" to skew their perception of the game due to something being new and everyone being excited angers them when the game fails to provide them with what they had false hope for. The main problems that GW2 will have after max level is attained is, keeping people who love playing level based content driven MMORPG's more content for max level that allows progression. I know GW2 fans who are very intelligent and understand the devlopers have a "design philosophy" but expect making money to trump design philosophy when the exodus starts. Me I think it's great ANET devs are doiing something different. we need more of it. BUT, an entire generation of Wow players who willd decend on your MMO will try to get thing's changed, and in the end the devs will do it or they will suffer to get  blizzard's market share. Just a frendly warning that devoted fans who get passed for the greater demographic need to understand. Good luck.

I know this is not what you posted about, but I think it is relevant... The thing is they are not trying to capture any part of WoW's (or anyone else's) 'market share'. If it happens, ok, they'll take it, but from what I see that is not what is driving them...

They know, because they have been watching like I have, that right now MMO players are NOT a limited resource.... there are millions of new players every months... the flood gates have opened and they are ravenous. All they need are Enough players to keep the game alive. In this case it is people Buying the game...  Word of mouth to the 'new to MMO' players means little to nothing. I've seen that many times.... They don't play WoW for the simple economics of it all... How much does a new player have to pay to play the current WoW?  ... the BEST pricing I have found would cost a new player over $110 + whatever the next expansion will cost. PLUS a subscription fee....  they are saying 'no'.  THIS game is $60 one time... I've met a lot of 'yes' players

"mass exodus" will not effect a game like that.... Look at UO, still around 400k players after all these decades... People ALWAYS move on to something else. The thing is, enough people stay. All the games that have died have died from finacial issues within the company, mostly NOT related to the game...

End Game, the thing that you 'feel' causing you to look around and compare yourself to those around you. If you 'feel' successful, usually involving 'beating' those said people around you, you enjoy it and stay. If not, usually you leave complaining.

I doubt there will be 'end game' in GW2 for most players who stick it out to level 80. It's a mindset thing, don't worry over it.

Longevity, how long a game will last before a company decides to close the doors on it. It really has NOTHING to do with the players most of the time. UO is still kicking out there in the dark. WoW will be around for your gamer grandkids. Count on it.

Seriously, these are silly things to worry over. You spend $60, play the game until you get bored or it closes up shop. Right now it will last longer than six months, so if you enjoy it, your $ will be well invested in the 'entertainment' column ....

Oh, yeah, and if the BWE's have been indication of leveling speed, you will be level 80 in under a month if hardcore and two months if casual. MOST of the content is for AFTER level 80 by my understanding, much like GW1 content was mostly after level 20 (the cap)....

[edit] also, if Crafting and you have a large guild to support you, you could concievable make level 80 from that in under a week, [/edit]

The real thing to remember is that this is An Actual Beta, not just pre-beta-release-alpha like most games. They have addressed many things so far and have one more BWE coming up. I expect the game will change a lot more in the two months until release. From BWE1 to BWE2 they made almost 2.3 GB content changes. From BWE2 they ALREADY have changed almost 800mb worth of files...

In other words you agree that there is no advantage OVER others. Just a personal "bonus" for the one who uses the CS, that's not Pay 2 Win because you are not winning anything. Unless you consider winning getting to 80 first, or getting the best crafted gear first. Well I don't, I consider P2W an unfair advantage someone might get OVER ME by using a CS. If his usage of the CS affects himself only (as it is in GW2) there is no "winning" here

 Definitely no advantage in sPvP.

WvW...possible, not sure.  It all depends on how much of a difference purchased things can make, and how much blueprints wind up costing.

PvE...you can definitely get an advantage.

I dunno, in the end, I see buying gold for real money as a form of legitimized cheating, and I think having to pay money for what is tradtionally accomplished with a cheat code is beyond stupid.

What advantage in PvE?

I am curious too, what advantage?

Uhhh???  You can buy better equipment?  Isn't this an advantage?

I mean...if you don't consider anything on the AH to confer an advantage, then I just don't know what to say.

But since gear/weapons are level rated you would only have an advantage if you reached that level ahead of someone else.........a very trivial advantage at best.

... and I can MAKE gear that beats anything you might get from Gems... LOL

This is golden.

Yes, yes it is! LOL

yeah, there was some sliding, I didn't have any, but my son right behind me did.

IMHO, I can say it was possibly because of the lack fo GPU support in the .exe, your CPU grinding movement floating points,

or server side backlog, not as likely since we both had 38ms pings...

however even if that was it, it should be cleared up next weekend with the new hardware they put in.... we shall see...

man this thing is slow,

I'm only getting 4.78MB/sec download speeds on average....

it will take me a whole 2 hours.

Of course that's not the Worst part...

then I have to wait 6 days to 'test' the beta.

(for those that didn't recognize it, it's called 'a joke'. I am very pleased with the d/l speed and can wait another six days... lol)

I spent almost two hours RPing last BWE.

Of course, while that proves you can RP in GW2, that also proves that I need to use my time more efficiently during limited events.

AWESOME AWARD granted!

It sure does.... but that's ok, THIS time you'll hunt for bugs and report them, right?  ;-P

ok...

Dynamic, changing, fluid.

They told us that events would happen wether we participated or not. You can come in 1/2 way into an event and choose to jump in or not. THAT is what they meant by Dymanic.

Why is this so hard to grasp?

you can see those two races here and there.... there are closed beta players who tested all that... the open betas are for server loads mostly... and some WvWvW mechanics...

Meh, I am sorry for being pissy Satarious, my bad. It's been a day I'd rather forget.

They may be adding some good ideas that have been tried before, but at least they're not going down the traditional "copy & paste wow" path that so many other MMOs have gone down.  It's going to be the anti-WoW game, which is the way I like it!

lol...its nothing like darkness falls

Well that'd be a shame then b/c one of the Devs specifically stated on the Beta board that they modeled it after that element from DaoC ...  and no one called it plagiarism since that dev was also a dev for DAOC back when it was a key feature.

Gotta love how people speak with such conviction when the facts aren't even all out.  Judging by the fact the heart of Guild Wars 2 pvp is being developed by daoc guys, I think it's pretty likely that we'll see something similar to Darkness Fall.  Which is a very good thing, in my book.

From everything I have read I totally agree, IMHO this is a good thing and is exciting to me that it might be like that!

I know you actually DID say a month,

but then you followed that with a timeframe that made it about 30 days....  really.... LOL

they have NOT said, we will have a beta every 30 days.... LOL

Mere semantics.

actually it's basic math.... not semantics.

'once per each month' =/= possibly 56 days =/= 'once every 30 days'

But, knitpick if you must, I know I will.

LOL
