That added info just pissed all over the possibilities. Idk about PS3. If you ask me, this game should be played on the PC-it really isn't one of those mindless button mashers like Skyrim. Now that, if mods were available on consoles, is a 110% console RPG.

A bloody good game!

With that said, I haven't actually tried this like ever. Something between me and stealth just doesn't add up. I end up losing interesting like immediately. Concerning allies, perhaps you could tweak their AI preferences? Perhaps you should lay traps, say everyone to stay put and use a tank(Ali usually) to pull them? By using I mean switching over to him. Idk. Maybe you should poke around DANexus and see if they have some mods that interest you?

Spirit/Creation ftw! Oh and shields are good as well, but not as those two.

Tbh, Idc about this one bit. I've got my spaceship ;) ! Ok, BT-7 could've been better designed(it looks like a weirdly designed Y-wing), but the others are just awesome! Falcon/Hawk especially ;)!

I am very happy that you and the rest of the playerbase are happy tho. Happy players = more money = more players = even more money = WAY better game ;) !

Now bring on the 3,0! Can't wait to see the balance changes(I am so restless to see them! Imagination about that part is currently running at cozy 147%)!

No, when it comes to character creation, I usually just hit the randomizer until something looks close to good, fine tune a bit in basic characteristics, see if I can use one of my standard names and off I go. Total time for the process, 15 minutes on a bad day.

Sometimes I don't even watch the full intro, just the usual blah di blah anyways, the only story I really care about is the one I'm about to make with my fellow players.

We are worlds apart then it seems. I would NEVER do this. Out of my own accord that is. But then again I was raised on the likes of BG, SC, NWN and Morrowind(oh and JK). ST and SW when it comes to tellie. So it should explain quite a bit, no?

As for the genres, yes. As long as it has an RPG in its name-I'll RP it away. I can and do various stuff: MMOs, ARPGs, standard RPGs(fill in the holes) - hell I can do even LoL! Some games are beyond salvation RP wise tho. Anything that is shooter based idc one iota about who or what I am supposed to be. In most Strategies as well, but not the grand scale ones(Sins, Total War, CK, EU etc) OR Heroes like TBS.

Just my preference. Others are 100% free to have their own and to create clown characters named "banana pajama"-I even encourage it! Diversity is always good! ;)

I'll take this as a resounding NO. Good for me-I like being unique :D <3 .

What I basically do when I play an MMO is to browse the class/race/etc options, research the lore therein and proceed to build my character through the questions like "who is he?" "why does he do what he does?" "what is a good name for that character/his race?" and such. Then I proceed to play the game being as immersed as possible(sometimes bending a few lore bits in order to fit my character better. Example: in Rift, as a Guardian, I always RP that the intro was not about my character, but that it was a tale it knows/it had a vision/etc. Therefore my char not being an undead :D ). When I finish the story/the game becomes about what I deem as a "waste of good time"(hard mode dungeons, raids etc), I take a pause in that game and go do something else. When I find myself thinking about the game again, I just return and create an alt(breaks usually last for a month or so).

Does anybody else play their mmo(s) in this, what I would aptly name, cinematic way? Or am I just weird?

Well, if they send a pretty comely woman of my age to wash my car(that sounds...xD), I'd buy a $250(or whatever) pledge INSTANTLY! Think of Liv in that movie(/erhmm hmmm hm xD). Do such a stunt and you have me money!

...what were we talking about then?

done and done!

Curses! Why am I so horny today?

I keep heading back to LOTRO all the time.  I think it does F2P the best out of all the games.

Really.?

Do you not have to pay for each zone in Lotro.?

Have you played Rift F2P model.?

Rift has a great model indeed, sadly the game itself never was among my favourites (except the Dimensions).

LotRO's model, I've wrote already numerous posts about it :) it's not as simple and straightforward as Rift's, but for former players it's almost as good.

For newcomers, Rift's f2p is much better, I agree (but you can unlock whole game for free in LotRO too, if don't mind the wasted time for grinding).

I'll just add that by this account SWTOR doesn't have a half bad f2p either. If you're willing to spend time leveling and gathering money only to buy unlocks, swtor can give you a HUGE game for free. I mean the only things you CAN'T(no way pedro!) influence are:

-> RE chances(a hit to high end crafting): 10% instead of 20%

-> Money limit(notable only during the endgame): 350k max(it can be purchased via escrows, but it'll get pricy as all hell)

-> Chat restriction: you can't chat normally. There's a limit(3 messages?) after which you have to wait 30s to chat again(annoying, but not make or break)

-> Forum restriction: you can't use the forums AT ALL. This could be a make or break(it is for me). But I understand and fully support them for doing this(otherwise they'd have a LoL forum on their hands!)

I mean with a high level char feeding the alts with xp boosts, you won't even feel the xp diff. And a fully unlocked f2p SWTOR feels more like a full game than some P2Ps do.

Just saying(if it applies to LoTR:O, it applies to SWTOR as well)...

I thought they also gated your characters & UI?

Did they undo that decision? Or are you saying you can use in-game gold to unlock them anyway? If that's true I may have to reconsider playing that game again.

Species unlocks and character slots can be bought in game(for creds) afaik. They are expensive 500k+, but it is very much available. Tbh idk about the UI(I take it you mean extra toolbars) because I don't need more than two(24 slots is more than enough to me). When you are a pref, that number rises to 48. I really have NO idea why anyone would need more than that. If you mean the ability to edit the UI-I recall being able to do it as a pref so that shouldn't be a prob as well.

As long as you don't mind the grind. It's merely an option. Nothing more, nothing less. And TOR is great at giving you options on how to play.

With all said and done, I'd recommend GW 2 and swtor.

You really can't miss with these two.
Firstly I will give an impression where it is due(I played almost all of these):

GW 2 is VERY different from anything on the market(its older brother included) and that could very well catch you on the wrong foot. Levelling doesn't have any definitive meaning partly to very thin progression past 30 and partly to downleveling. Its PvP is top notch(Hey we're talking about ANet here!), PvE significantly less so. Still, the world is huge and there is a wide variety of things to do. Puzzles, story quests, hearts, DEs, crafting, exploration etc. Then there are sPvP and RvR(ok WvW). Considering it's b2p only-if you find a bargain deal on this one you should buy it. There's really a LOT to be done in this one. My experiences? Abysmal(even if that high :p), but that's due to me being a massive GW 1 fanboy(I still am!) and GW 2 being so radically different. It is very popular/populated, but can feel barren during mid levels on some servers.

Rift is a typical game. It should be mildly popular, but its fanbase being very loyal. It's a typical wow inspired game where the only real differences are: the ability to design your class(pick your talent trees), 4th role(support), Rifts and an IP. If you ask me, if you could cherry pick talent trees in wow like you could in Rift, this game would be dead within 2 months tops. It is very much a clone seeing how even their Elves have the same swim animation as the night elves(dolphin style). Still, it offers good dungeons, the ability to 2man some raids(this could be important to you!) and unparalleled freedom. Nothing really besides that.

FF I haven't played. My vote is Void here.

So, in order to choose between those two, you need to answer the following question: "traditional combat or action combat?". My recommendations for these two would go:

Rift > GW2(subjectivelly)
GW2 > Rift(objectivelly)

So, it's pretty much up to you! Both are very easy to try and get a feeling of, but the easiest way is to answer the above question.

As for the second pairing:

LoTR:O is very much a typical game. Very wow inspired and all. After DDO, I expected something different from turbine, but meh. Seeing how you aren't here for the raids and the like, but for the community, RP, singleplayer feel etc, it could very well be awesome. Seeing how you intend to 2man it, it should feel more than not like a singleplayer, it has a very nice story and the RP community is just awesome. The actual gameplay would be this game's downfall. When you combine rather uninspired combat with wooden animations, you get boredom. In its pure form. Also if you live outside of USA, you need to add at least 100ms lag to that recipe. Pure, unadultared boredom due to "molass" like combat. A mighty shame because of the IP, of the world created etc. Also, back when I played, you were nickle n dimed to death and collecting turbine points ingame wasn't exactly easy(few rewards here or there valued @ 10 points max O.O). Maybe the f2p model changed in the last 3 years(who knows?). Oh and you have to read the quest text(might be a problem when compared to the next two!)

ESO I haven't played, so whatever my opinion might be of it, it'd be voided anyhow, so wth.

TSW is a troubled game. Yes, the story is all nice and spiffy and everything...until you get to Egypt. Then the amount of "oh so awesome"(they really are!) investigation mission sharply drops and if you do get a mission that isn't combat oriented, you can bet it'll be a Sabotage(those Arcade like missions). And the story isn't really a coherent being like in ESO or in LoTR:O or in TSW. It's basically three different acts set in different time periods all mixed together(or that's how I understood it). The story is very weird, even if aptly written. Community I guess is there, but does not communicate that much(in game). The game feels like it should've been a singleplayer from the start and that's one of my biggest complains against it: "why create an average MMO if you have a nigh perfect singleplayer?". 2man wouldn't really work here because stuff would get ridiculously easy and there are singleplayer instances. Almost every Sabotage/Investigation/Story mission has one of these. This means you can't really duo this game. Oh and there is the omnipresent fear of shutdown due to the state of Funcom(not exactly healthy). It uses action combat.

Swtor has typical roots, but it very much goes its own way. To the uninformed onlooker it could very much look like a wow + Lightsabers. But there is way more present to this than meets the eye. See, swtor has come very far since its troubled launch. Like VERY far. It accomplished what I would classify as a Herculean task(to look failure in the eye, learn from it, adapt and prosper). It might as well be one of 12 ;) . Anyhow, if you are looking for story with an active RP community, look no further! This game has easily the best story amongst MMOs(and some singleplayers!)-and not just a story. But EIGHT STORIES!!! Actually ten if we count overarching and up to 25 if we count all the planetary stories, but wth. All of them superbly and, more than not, coherently written.
The game is very healthy currently with a quadranium levels of loyalty(translation: VERY loyal). What this also means is that you have NOTHING to fear. Not from the balance team(they like to play it very careful, so no O.o overnight changes), not from the devs and not even from EA(thanks to the healthy income). The game has a system in it that allows for an awesome way to experience stories in groups and even rewards you for doing that. When duod, it feels completely like a singleplayer game with some MMO mechanics you needn't worry about. The only bad thing: the crafting is kinda barebones and it basically requires a sub(at least until you get one character up to 50 or above). It uses traditional combat.

In this regard: Swtor > LoTR:O > (ESO) > TSW

To be completely blunt, I'd outright suggest you play only swtor. It fits both of your categories, it is very healthy, fun and populated. Hell, even EA approved it by mentioning it @ gamescom(you don't even know how big this is). It is a VERY good game and will only grow if they don't pull some crazy stunt this winter(when the 3,0 patch is expected). Which they most likely won't because they fought through tooth n claw, through thick n thin to get here and they know it. They wouldn't just waste it.

Whatever may be your choice, have fun!!!
Try swtor. It's star wars for gods sake! What could go wrong?

Also, try Smite. It's what I would call a next gen MOBA. 3rd person control, unreal engine, really smooth control. The drawback? It really misses the finger details of MOBA genre. The ability to freeze the lane etc.

It wouldn't hurt you to try GW 2, TSW and ESO as well. They are all rather nice graphically, but they have the dreaded twitch combat(whether that's a + or - is up to you). Also, GW 2 kinda has no point. But it sure is pretty! GW 2 the pretty blonde... :D

Looks totally like an exchange rate adjustment, so of course it's a mechanical announcement.

Not sure when gamers started expecting regular content updates for their sub fee, that fee gives you the right to play the game as is, nothing more.

If they choose to release new current in between the paid expansions, that's just them being magnanimous, they are perfectly within their right to go off and spend the sub fees on beer and hookers if they choose.

Do you realise how crazy the stuff in 2nd and 3rd sounds? It's apparently ok to pay a sub just because someone says it is. Is it ok when someone mugs you then? The very same principle! No, it's even worse when it comes to subs. You pay for  a game and then...you need to pay AGAIN? Pretty strange if you ask me. It's like buying a DVD then being charged everytime you want to watch it. Either or is godmade for this case.

And that is exactly why I am pro Cash shop(as long as it isn't handled in a lottery style like in swtor). Devs have to show even a tiny,  weeny bit of effort in order to earn their keep. Instead of subs which allow devs to swim in money just because(wow being the perfect example. NINE MONTHS without an update and people still sub? Do you even understand what kind of message you're sending?).

Of course, sub is ok as long as there is no initial purchase. I REALLY prefer the way Freemiums handle it: unlock the things you need a-la-carte(as they come) or unlock EVERYTHING by subbing. Free download.

That's exactly why I said that they're crazy. To raise a price during or shortly after one of the biggest recessions that hit our civilisation AND while they haven't released a THING for over NINE MONTHS is...I have no other words but crazy.

This has to be "Bobby strikes back v2". Only he can conjure such ludicrous ideas(that, sadly, seem to work).

Oh and I am deathly afraid of that cascade effect. WoW raises sub to 17,50 then raises it again to 20(who doesn't like round numbers?) and et voila! We have a new standard price for a sub. This would cascade even more after this by directly impacting Cash shop prices in f2p/b2p games, potentially affecting the Base costs of games etc. Remember how games used to cost $50? And how they, pretty much @ random, jumped up to $60?
I LOVED GW 1 and I approve of Dalt's post!

The two things that make it tedious to me are:

-> All the classes feel the same. Sure they may do it differently, but they end up in the same spot. Can you really make such different DPS builds as say Afflict locks/Ele shams/Arcane mages feel(I even tried to stay true to the flavour!)? Not to mention that progression stops @ 30. Wth even have all those surplus levels?

-> Dynamic Event/Heart experiment. First of all, I do understand the difference and still I find them quite tedious(Hearts especially!). If they had questing lite option that allowed you to quest IF THAT WAS YOUR THING, it'd have been so much better. I wouldn't even get offline what with GW 2/swtor/ESO and all the massive story focus :D . Sadly, one is meh and one is an experiment. Wasn't GW 2 the very game that had a marketing Campaign sth to the effect of "play it your way/this is your story"? Then why no quests? For some they are their game and ArenaNet proved to us that they can both write them and make them fun in GW 1.

If those two were ever fixed, GW 2 would become one of my most beloved games. I love most everything about it except those two. A mighty shame that those two often make or break a game...
The long slog to 3,0 begins. Can't wait for it to arrive!
They are POSITIVELY crazy! Thank the maker for that which shall not be mentioned yet is related to this game.

It kinda sounds like that fable game to me. 4v1 and all.

If you ask me, they should've either done NWN 3, JE 2 or focus more on swtor instead of wasting money on this. I think either of those would Prove, ultimately, more valuable(both from the product and profit value).

Idk. I really don't. We'll see how it goes...
