Here comes the solution!
Imagine an mmorpg with a TES/DS leveling systems(wanna do more dmg with a Sword? PRACTICE!), without any quest markers/highlighted items where you have to carefully read/listen what the quest says. Basically, TSW done better. Quests award you with weapons and gold-tho you don't know what it will be(common mistake in MMOs is that they show you the rewards-then the whole psychology is reverse when compared to the case where rewards weren't known). Done. |

[Hardware Review] General: The Sapphire AMD 7870 HD Review
News & Features Discussion « General Discussion 5/11/13 5:10:29 PM
Then there is the question of what you actually need turned up.
Today I turned Tesselation off in TSW because to me it looks totally unrealistic(and a bit scary to be honest). What will I do with SSAO is yet to be seen. That's one of the reasons why you don't necessarily need 7990. And yes, this was nice little review. I loled a little after seeing the length of it :). It's not like they have the necessary resources for it anyhow... Thank you mmorpg :) |

Problem with Games in general: Lack of Intelligent A.I and Animation?
The Pub at MMORPG.COM « General Discussion 5/11/13 2:56:15 PM
What needs to happen is for mobs to cease being simple xp/loot pinatas. As long as they are simply that, there is no point in making the fight more challenging. On the contrary! It would only hurt the game. Personally, I don't even consider them loot pinatas-I consider them speed bumps.
What else needs to happen? Well, devs need to choose if they want to have an MMO filled to the top with easy mobs that Zerg you(this'd be the challenge then) or few mobs with superior AI and more than 2 abilities(I would prefer this one). There is also another solution: make creeps that are below moderate level of challenge(say 3 levels below you or they con blue) PASSIVE. The part that is the most aggrosome to me in most MMOs are 50-100 hp mobs attacking me when I have 1k hp(pointless really). Really, there are countless ways to tackle this issue-but it NEEDS to be resolved. Make beasts, undead, etc stupid. But for the love of Asuryan-make sentient foes more challenging than random beasts->this also applies to Dragons. |

IN THE SPOTLIGHT: What MMO do you believe had the best potential but failed in execution?
The Pub at MMORPG.COM « General Discussion 5/11/13 3:17:05 AM
@fantasyfreak:
Look, I hate PvP and therefore have no intention to back CU or anything made by MJ for that matter. What made me purchase(and play for some 3-4 months) wasn't PvP, wasn't Mythic. It was the IP. Simple as that. And that's why it got so many votes. Because it is(sadly, I wish that I could say it WAS) WARHAMMER Online. If it were named RvR online or abc online or whatever but Warhammer-I guarantee you that nobody would even remember it, let alone feel let down/betrayed. The fact that quality Warhammer games come out every 5-6 years doesn't exactly help either. Now we have to wait for another Warhammer MMO or an Warhammer RPG until 2020(at the earliest). For Elves, it wouldn't matter. But for us humans, man we can't waste time so. |

IN THE SPOTLIGHT: What MMO do you believe had the best potential but failed in execution?
The Pub at MMORPG.COM « General Discussion 5/10/13 7:31:28 PM
Oh it will!
It most assuredly is going to join the ranks of games such as WAR(Warhammer Fantasy IP-humongous IP)/Tor(Star Wars IP-the most known SF on the planet! Lol)/LoTRO(just give me Middle Earth online! K tnx bai!-LoTR is also a humongous IP)/AoC(Conan-huge IP that is, arguably, smaller than either Warhammer or LoTR and certainly smaller than SW)... Is the sad path upon which the big IP games tread :( |

IN THE SPOTLIGHT: What MMO do you believe had the best potential but failed in execution?
The Pub at MMORPG.COM « General Discussion 5/10/13 6:42:39 PM
1. WAR-I didn't even expect RvR(or even knew what it was back in the day), but it felt good. Art was awesome as were some of stories there and ToK and RvR. It also introduced me to Warhammer fantasy(prior to playing WAR I thought that WHFB sucked donkey ass and after playing it, I fel in love with WHFB). Anyhow, this game fails on so many levels that it is ridiculous. It could've been DAoC 2 in Warhammer. It could have been WoW in Warhammer. It wasn't either. It was some strange mix with only marketing(banner ads) directed towards Hardcore PvP player, instead of all of us Warhammer fans. Not to mention bugs, weird working atmosphere in Mythic, blatant lies from mr.Barnett and so forth. You can say whatever you want about Tor/Vanguard/GW 2/AoC-but all of those games are rather playable and FUN right now. WAR never left its hellhole.
2. GW 2-after 5 years of pious waiting(I even dropped out of Uni because of it!-silly me) and countless sacrificed things in the name of "Great" GW 2-what did I receive? A kiddo game and a spit in the face. Oh and Colin smirking about how awesome he is. This game fel apart after they lost Jeff. This game taught me not to get too excited about anything and not to sacrifice things in the present in the name of future. Concerning the game itself-it's merely okay. Too much spamming and too many prototype systems for my liking. I don't like being a test subject tyvm! An okay game, but when a game comes from the devs of GW 1-you Expect helluva more, and then some. 3. ES:O-I will not even play it. But I can smell a disaster from a Mile away. That and I hadn't the Third game, so I put ESO here :). Honourable mentions: WoW(could/should've been more-even more so for the expansions post WoTLK, it included), Tor(same as above), LoTRO(it is an awesome game to be sure, yes. Tho I would prefer that take on middle earth of sierra any day in the week. What was its name? Middle Earth online? Anyhow-it's more or less the same as WoW: should've been more). |
|
|
TSW, Rift and Vanguard. Also LoTRO.
Nothing else :) |
|
|
My first suggestion would be Vanguard. If you really want to be challenged-pick one of the solo gimped classes(say Warrior) and see how much you'll enjoy it then. Just a friendly warning :).
And the second one would be TSW. It is fun and challenging, but when you crack the surface of that so challenging carapace-it breaks rather easily. If you use your mind, potions and strafe correctly it's as easy as most games are. GW 2's situations where you get swarmed after the cinematic are basically non existant. Tho, I feel those two are currently the best MMOs. It's really hard to trump Vanguard's Open world focus or TSW's Open character building focus. Can't really go wrong with either of those. |

The most similar? I can see just one similarity: when talking about skills and all that Deck business, one can not but notice similarity between TSW and GW 1. Otherwise it's pretty unique. Story is unique as is setting. World design is top notch as is quest design. Only weak part is the combat design. There are lots of subpar, duplicate or broken skills. Combat is really mediocre at best, but the rest of game is so stellar that it basically overrides the mediocrity of combat. I'd say give it a shot. It's really good. |

I can wait alright! Like I am waiting patiently for my Warhammer Fantasy RPG to arrive(hell, it's bound to arrive once).
But I need to play sth in the meantime. I think I'll play TSW(tho I don't like setting that much) or Vanguard(tho it is ancient) or even GW 2(hell I am so desperate). Maybe a MOBA? HoN? |
|
|
So?
Any other suggestions? And as to birdy: There is distinct difference between streamlining sth and just outright cutting it out. Today's games have done the latter without offering a (worthy) substitute for those elements which they cut out. Streamlining is awesome. It is like comparing walking around the barren wasteland that was Daggerfall(just use fast travel man!) and the chock full of events landscape that is GW 2. Yeah sure, GW 2 is way smaller, but almost everything is used(really, only content that is actually being used should count) as opposed to Daggerfall that is huge but with whole areas where literally nothing happens. Sth to think about ;) |

TSW and Vanguard I say.
Only them two are of any quality. All the others went down the WoW clone path(imo). Tho I dislike what you are in TSW(a superman more or less-tho you can RP it away!). And Vanguard ain't that solo friendly(outside of few classes), but it is the best PvE MMO out there(imo). You could also try Rift(not a fan of being undead/clone) or Aion. Only good MMOs imo: WoW, GWs(first one is leagues better), LoTRO(tho they could knock nickel n dime down a notch), TSW, Vanguard, Aion and Rift. Oh and eve. After that...good luck finding a quality MMO. |

Ah yes-I was talking about the freedom to be really whatever you want ranging from bartenders to bounty Hunters to Jedi in SWG then about the freedom of creating 100% unique skillbuild in GW 1 and finally about concepts of Vanilla WoW(SWG I haven't played personally because we had 56k{I think} and net was like LOL expensive-tho everything I read/watched etc was stellar).
Also, out of MMO genre there was more freedom to RPGs in general(compare Daggerfall/Morrowind to Oblivion/Skyrim) and the awesomeness that Diablo 1/2 and Dungeon Siege 1/2 were. Not to mention NWN/BG/PS:T(my Fav out of those three). Heh, good ole days. |

Hai there mmorpg.com administration :) I am back and ready to be banned for even more months now :) For Real now: I was wondering if you could help me with MMORPGs. Because I think that I have realised sth, but am not quite sure about that. Onto the question(s), shall we? First of all, I was wondering if there were any true mmoRPGs left. Because after WoW/LoTRO/Aion/Rift/GW 2/TSW/... I am fed up with just MMOs. Now, I did actively RP in all of those games(well mostly), but that's beside the point. I want the choice, not the illusion of choice. I want to be a sheriff or a bartender or a stableboy. To have the ability to choose. MMOs of today are just hollow shells of what they used to be. Second(I'll use metaphors so be prepared), why is it that MMOs(and most of the games) of today are not blank canvases like they used to be back in the day? Today you either get a canvas with a pattern which you get the chance of colouring however you wish(this is defined as freedom nowadays) or you just get connect the dots(just lol!). This is pretty similar to the point 1 and I sincerely hope that you understood that one. Third, why aren't there more MMOs with active selections a la GW1/TSW? This is way more skillful than zillion of hotbars on the screen that is so common in WoW copy of yore. Fourthly, I want semi action combat. Not full, but not WoW either. If you have to have action combat please do not make it reminiscent of Skyrim(or in other words:SPAAAMMM!!!). This is important part because that which you do the most in MMOs is the combat, so if I have to do it-at least make it fun. Of course, the choice of never actually killing a foe would be rad, but meh. They don't make such games anymore. Today it is either A or B(way back you could have both in the game and you chose what to do). Other info that could be pertinent to this search is: modern graphics(really not into pre 2007 looks), western(as in not Korean-do not think about wyatt now :) ) design, easy to RP in, preferably Fantasy tho I don't care about that as much and crafting that is actually important. Oh and either b2p or freemium-I don't care about others(because one is with 1 and 1/2 leg in a grave{p2p} and the other is just obnoxious). The more you know...;) Am curious about dem suggestions... Thank you! |

this game is a prime example of a game you should have fun but don't.
Reviews & Impressions « Guild Wars 2 2/25/13 9:31:07 PM
I know this may not be the place for this: Have you tried Vanguard? It COULD be what you are looking for(old school, imagination provoking MMO). Now my thoughts(one quick sentence): GW 2 is Like Kim Kardashian-beautiful and all that, but eerily empty from inside. And you obviously need something else, something that makes you lost in Fantasy yes? To use person analogy-you need someone who's gonna talk about Warhammer with you and not Kim. Instead of something that is merely beautiful... Right? (I am in same position mate) |

Well...
They ignored the IP(smart decision! It is only Warhammer-where would it have large fanbase...O.0). They focused purely on pvp(this is a MMO and you shouldn't focus purely on anything. Put in things you know you can make work/fun and forget about the rest). They butchered the lore(Skaven and Skavenslayer Slayers in the same team! Wow what logic!) No Real content updates that didn't harm the game(almost every content update, if you can call them that way, had the effect of patch 1.4) Those decisions killed WAR for me. And I wish it to DIE so another Company can get their chance at Warhammer Fantasy Roleplay, whether in MMO or Singleplayer version is irrelevant. As it stands, I can only play as an Asur in half baked, PvP centric and forgotten game. Ah for shame... Well at least I've got my hardcover Elf books :) |

Making me realize that I prefer more meat to my MMO instead of pointless jumping around(combat in GW 2 sucks imo). Am currently on Vanguard(potentially the richest MMO out there) and will soon be in TSW. This would not happen without GW 2 as a middleman. Making me stand for my characters. I will not play GW 2 until Engi, Necro and Ranger are updated/fixed. Showing us how beatiful and expansive an MMO can be. Only Vanguard, LoTRO and TSW come even close. |

No.
The games are meant to be B2P. Period. |
|
|
If it is P2P, they are in full retard mode. We have THREE P2P games left(WAR/WoW/Rift). And if they Expect to change something overnight-oh my are they in for a treat! P2P is dying and for a reson. In this day and age, it is complete robbery.
I Expect it to be p2p(because most MMOs start in the retard mode and work toward the awesome mode) with a Freemium switch within a year. In this case, ESO does not interest me no matter what they offer with their game. It is not likely it will be b2p. But if it is, I could see myself trying it. B2P is the way it's meant to be after all... |
|

P2P-yes or no? This simple question will decide how retarded(or not) Zenimax Online truly is. |
