1. GW 1(especially Nightfall era)
2. Swtor
3. LoTRO

Honourable mentions(in no special order):

-> Rift
-> AoC
-> WAR

As is obvious, I love IPd story focused games. Rift is a bit of a statistical outlier, but it sure does allow to tell MY stories on MY terms. Therefore, it also comes down to stories.

P.S. Nightfall is simply epic! <3
I have started playing only this year, but have been stalking swtor since beta. With that said, the additions:

-> plenty of flashpoints
-> a couple of operations(not really into this so I don't really pay attention to it)
-> Galactic Starfighter
-> Galactic Strongholds
-> Conquest system
-> Hutt Cartel stuff(Makeb etc)

-> Balance
-> Performance(lags + overall)
-> overall

Depends on your needs and wants. Just by spending 5$ you get pref status which is noticably better. You need to tell us what you want to do and we'll go from there.

Overall, this game is like a phoenix or, if you want a bit more oriental word, like a simurg. See, it literally rose from ashes and revived itself. It's quite beautiful now. Leaps and bounds better than @ launch. Hell, it even converted me and I was the hater of swtor. That's gotta say something in itself...
LoTR:O vs Rift
LFGame « General Discussion

Here is my final verdict:

My Elves(Gor/Sin/Cui+we and Maedhrys) stay where they should(LoTR + Warhammer Fantasy). This opens up the venue for LoTR:O and I can safely play it any time I want. I would want those because they are ataressë, but I can think up of others(tbh, most of them do have kilmessë). Epessë and amilessë are their own category. Especially amilessë-never thought about that one. Epessë should be rather straightforward and some of them in fact do have it(or rather what I thought as a surname sounds awful like either epesseë or kilmessë).

When it comes to Rift, I am abandoning Guardians for Defiants. I feel like I can be fully creative that way without forcing something onto something. Plus, it opens up the classes(souls, whatever) that just don't make sense for a Guardian such as Saboteur, Nightblade, Assassin and the like. Of course, I lose the access to Paladin, Justicar, Inquisitor and the like, but I won't cry for those. Zealous fools hmphh! This opens up the venue for Rift as well. In short:

And with that said, this thread executed its function. I thank you all for your advices and for your time. Much obliged!

We are not talking about net speed, but about net speed as a result of a net traffic right? And the formation of a price. Got it!

I am not so good at this point because most of my computer knowledge is focused around Hardware and a bit less about software. Traffic? I did learn ICT(this topic falls into this right?), but it is not my vocation and is more of a lore check than anything. Therefore:

I'll let quiz continue. Seeing him I assumed this was a standard Hardware discussion of yore, but it seems it isn't. I heard that appearances are deceptive. :)

Why not use flat internet? Some hipster reason why not? I once downloaded a 500GB during a month and the price didn't go up even for a cent. Couple that with 20mbps and...yeah.

Plus, most of online servers can't handle 50mbps as is and you are already slowed down to their cap(usually at around 20, 25 max). Sure, I do expect netflix and such to have the state of the art servers which allow up to 120mps, but this is simply not realistic for 90% of net. I am kinda surprised that quiz hasn't mention this yet.

Tbh, I fail to see what the fuss is about. You pay less, you get less. One simply can not expect that Dacia will perform equally to BMW. Of course, the added cost is sometimes(around 20-25% of time, depends on the branch) pointless and comes off as what I call "the fool's tax". The perfect example being cable tv. Do you really need all those packets? Sure it is still cheap, but if you compare it to Base price, it can and will quickly come to up to 200% of that price. Plenty of this around...
Nice satire! Was really funny!

Too bad that it is, but oh so true. But then again, I haven't seen a single piece of satire that wasn't based in some way, shape or form in reality. And this is our, sad, reality.

WTF happened to FUN??? O.o
Rift is...ok. It can be fun, but it is THE wow clone. Did you notice how Elves swim? Seen it somewhere else? The dolphin style? If it copied that!

Here is what is TRULY(you can feel it) different:

-> 4 roles instead of 3: There is no Holy trinity. Sure, that's the safest way of doing things in Rift, but what with all these 4th role classes, I could get all kinds of creative while playing. The roles are: Tank, Healer, DPS, support. Support can be everything and anything. It can be kinda traditional like bard(group support through buffs) to Warlock(some would call him a DPS class, I prefer to put him here. His DoTs and debuffs help to weaken enemy enough and to speed ghings up. This area is murky at best) to exotic things like Dominator(CC specialist, I prefer to link it to GW Mesmer-they are a plenty similar). How the presence of 4th role changes group dynamics isn't needed to explain I think.

-> Housing: The housing in Rift is pretty nice, pretty customisable and fulfills most of your housing needs. If you are into this, that is. Nice work!

-> Rifts/invasions/etc: They are a novel idea, nothing more, but nothing less as well. The scaling should be capped, however, because when blue geared TANK gets one get it. It also gets old real quick. More variety here as well as a cap on scaling would do wonders.

-> Instant Adventures: sure, the idea of not having to talk to a quest giver and reporting back sounds insignificant, but believe me-IT IS NOT! You feel more free by doing IAs. Why? Who knows. Anyhow, you just go from one objective to another in a player capped instance(I don't think that there can be more than 20 players/instance). So, no one shots, no boring "there and back again" trips, no stupid one line quests. Trust me, IAs do make a difference!

-> The ability to "build" your own class: There are four Base classes, each with 8(perhaps more now) robust talent trees. Talent trees don't just bring passives and a skill here and there, but they bring a lot of skills both in the passive part(called "branches") and in the active part(called "roots"). By putting points into a talent tree, you further specialise in it and gain additional skills as you level that tree. Quite ingenious and nice if I do say so myself. Also, every class has an access to every role(quite literally with 3,0): tanking mage? You got it! Healing Rogue? There it is! DPS Clerics? No problem! The possibilities are quite large and are one of better parts of this game(if not the best)

Everything else is just wow copypasta. Perhaps with changed names or whatever, but don't expect deep experience from Rift. Rather expect fun one and you'll get what you want! ;)
If I were you:

I'd wait a fortnight to see what Tor 3,0 is about. Then I'd continue from there.

I'd also choose both. Swtor for SF and LoTRO for fantasy.

I'd also look at the private scene. There could be old fashioned wow things you could like there. Sorry-can't say no more. I've said too much already :)

I really have nothing more to say because both azaron and pogg detailed swtor and lotro(respectively) pretty nicely.

Enjoy and have fun!

About the Forged Alliances and what it means for swtor.

Why is it that all the new story bits are FP-based? Does this mark a new direction within swtor? What is interesting about these new "stories"? Why are people satisfied by these bit-sized "stories"?

These are some of questions that genuinely interest me.

Can't wait for this month's cantina then. Is bound to be either depressing or awesome(realistically speaking, Bioware Austin deserves the latter).

Wonder what will they do with classes, because I haven't ever heard of a patch x.0 which didn't come with a sizable balance section. Be what it may, it's bound to be interesting at the very least.

Onwards to 3,0!

#6 for me.

It sounds like just what I always wanted to have(the ultimate star trek gaming experience). How can I say no to sth like that? Plus politics, various cultures etc are a big plus in my book.

#5 sounds promising as well. Sth like bioshock infinite expanded. I'm always for that!

All the others sound kinda meh, but the one I'd like to single out as a potentially hazardous investment would be #2.

Why #2?

Well, because look at what happened to the likes of Sims online, spore and their ilk. You can bet that within a month petty squabbles would break out. By the end of month #3, the community would collapse due to the endless strife and the minituarisation caused by it. It sounds really bad and not like sth I'd like to play(others are weird{notable exceptions #5 and #6}, but at least playable).

All just imo!
Speaking of junkies...

What is the first thing that comes to your mind when I say "Hugh Laurie"?

So much about acting/RPing a junkie being meaningless.

Which happened first: NWN or NWN2? Somehow I have a feeling of latter personally.

Yes, it could seem as a kinda awkward thing to ask(random even), but I didn't know where to ask this. So I, naturally, turned to you. ;)

I don't really believe DoW3 got cancelled. If the memory serves, Relic took those quarter finished IDEAS(so not even 50% of pre-alpha...)with them to SEGA. Along with something Homeworld related.

As for DMO: haven't you heard? The Warhammer RPGs are THE boogeymen of game development. For one reason or another everyone's afraid of doing what either Warhammer IP deserves and we end up having half finished products.

My true role is support. Buff, Debuff, CC, shield, that kind of thing. Divination and Abjuration and the like. But if I had to pick between the 3(ugh! Disgusting!), it would go sth like this:

1. Tank(because of control and because of it only)

2. Healer(I am not that keen on following others around like a puppy, but there is sth fun in Healing-especially proactive Healing{Purifier, prot monk, balance priest and their ilk}!)

3. DPS(just ugh! I mean itis fun to play sometimes while soloing, but in a group? Please!)

And with the cross classes included:

1. Support(Just YES! Bard/Ench sorc/Divination+Abjuration wiz...OH YES!)

2. DPS tank(it's fun to DPS while tanking{blood dk fe} or DPS with DoTs)

3. Pure tank(is still good)

4. Tanky healer(warrior priest and his ilk-you get both for the price of one! ;) )

5. Lifetap healer(or DPS Healer ;) -idk There's definitely sth fun about this)

5. Tanky DPS(kinda meh)

6. Pure healer(it can work, I guess)

n. Pure DPS(fun in solo, especially if you've got a Henchman swtor style, but in groups? ASURYAN SAVE ME!!! <-good enough description? ;) )

There are only 3 roles (Tank/Damage/Healing)

and all classes perform a single or combo of those 3 roles in some format of combat.

No, there aren't. Or are you trying to imply that:

A Dominator/Mesmer is the same as idk, an Elementalist? Perhaps a monk? Or a Warrior?

This "there are only 3 play styles" drivel reminds me of MBTI drivel. Who said that there are only 3 playing styles(or 16 psych types)? Blizzard(what's its name :p )? To quote the ever fascinating Jung:

"...for all we know there could be dozes upon dozens types out there. Hundreds even! I strongly suspect that only the sky is the limit..."

The same applies to MMOs. Who says that there aren't "dozens upon dozens" playstyles? And these hybrids are only the part of it all. Wanna hear an absurd thought?

"Complex is the path of simplicity"

Woah, woah, woah! Let's calm down a bit, shall we? Good.

First, it's difficult to apply Realism to video games. I know that it sure would be nice to get Buckshot'd and walk away without a scar(reality: minced meat) or to casually become an adventurer and become rich doing it. That is why it is what it is-a fantasy. Nothing more, nothing less.

Secondly, to everyone who thinks that just because you've been deals a harsh hand o Cards when you were born-think again! Two things: watch TNG episode "Tapestry" and second: there is a reason why astrologers find Saturn(a harsh teacher) way more benevolent than Jupiter(gimme free moneys!). The reason being, without trials, tests and hardships, you will be just an average nobody(see "Tapestry"). When was the last time you heard for a poet who had just quiant Life? Hm? Most great poets actually lost their parents or lived during the war or sth like that. As per DnD, without trials, your wisdom equals 8(or even less). So, the more you try, the better you are. Within reason, of course! Don't get stabbed like Jean-Luc there ;)

Finally: depends on a game. If Rift offered me defined classes, I'd spit him(if I could of course!). The same goes for wow/swtor/etc and random builds. I myself am(can't believe I actually feel that way...) quite conservational-give me a class that suits my temperament and then promptly leave me alone. How did I get there? Rift's mix + match? GW 2/EQNext prototypes? Standard talent trees? TES a la carte Swedish buffet? DnD skills n feats n the whole deal? Who cares. As long as I am having fun doing it. But when the push comes to the shove:

I have a need for my class to be well defined. As I said, the method of achieving it is none of my concern(as long as it is fun, ofc!). But it must be well defined. That's why I can't stand multiclassed DnD builds. Just stick with your class/PrC dammit! Stuff like Cleric/Fighter/Mage is just obnoxious to me. So the answer: who knows these things? Depends on the context really, but if I was really hard pressed, I'd tell give me a well designed and fun standard MMO class(talent trees and all-a la swtor etc). Let's say that I burned myself one time too much on the prototypes... ;)

EDIT: everything written above applies to real life as well. I don't care how, where, from whom or upon what the knowledge was written on. It can be from experience(learn by doing), in the most unorthodox of places{learn Math while clipping burgers? Who cares}, from a guest who wrote it on a napkin/piece of toillete paper. As long as you got it-awesome! Otoh, if you don't have it, I don't care if you finished MIT/Oxford. I simply don't. Why? No knowledge. GG . I am practical like that.

Swtor and I are a match made in Heavens. I can see myself replaying stories 4-5 years from now. Not that I have finished them(more like 25% of them :D ).

And it's all about the game. The story, the henchmen, the style of all reminds of absolutely awesome times I had in GW 1, NWN, DS and such games. And to think that I HATED it once and with a burning passion. Lesson: hate and love are the two sides of the same coin. :D

If I wanted to, I could find a nice Guild easily. The fact is, I prefer not to be tied down. I just value my freedom highly...
Ah again? Was wondering when it'll turn up.

Just ignore this...

Because I don't want to waste up to 100 GB of HDD? Meh.

There has been a tradeoff with the class updates. On one hand customization is a little more restrictive, but on the other the trait lines themselves are more powerful and class play is more fun.

Oh, I've missed that post: Gorwe, Rift + LotRO is only 40GB together. :)

"On one hand customization is a little more restrictive"  a little more? It's like handcuff your hands behind your back and sending you forward on a narrow corridor, compared to the pre-HD state... :)

the second part I agree, there's much more power to the classes now, some of the new trait bonuses are massive.

Excuse the hyperbole for I hate wasting my disc space. I also hate when someone spells the disC(standard anglic form) as disK(that is german/nordic way of spelling it). Never you mind this.

What I meant by the talent trees was twofold:

1. Maybe the talent tree planner is broken, but I can't see any ability being given when you choose Master of Nature's Fury and/or Keeper of Animals. That is like very unfair :/ . To further elaborate the Ancient Master gives you Test of Will. Now you know what I am talking about(hopefully).

2. I don't see classes drawing from a singular inspiration. I know that Burglar is inspired by Bilbo, but then consider this. Mischief Maker is definitely inspired by Bilbo(somehow save the day by saving yourself), but the other two? I can't really imagine Bilbo backstabbing anyone nor can I imagine him being a gambler. Further: Hunter and Legolas(Legolas would be Bowmaster right?) and the Lore Master is perhaps the easiest to peg down:

Keeper of Animals is definitely inspired by Aiwendil(Radagast for the common folk)-hell it even hints at it("Tutelage of Brown Wizard" ?). Meanwhile Master of Nature's fury is clearly inspired by Olorin(Gandalf) what with the focus on Light and Fire dmg(don't forget who wore Narya during the LoTR:O period!). Ancient Master would most probably be Elrond Peredhil, yes.

Just an observation.
