Kinda reminds me of Pepsi taking shots at Coke and Coke never mentioning Pepsi..

Good for Trion, I always thought Pepsi had a better sense of humor as well.

When the combat really seems to involve only spamming 1 attack to build up combo points for either a harder single target attack or an aoe, I feel something is missing. Add to this that they are using allegedly unfinished animations it does detract from what I would consider "fun". But then again some people will look past the combat because they enjoy the lore and setting.

This changes quite a bit as you unlock more of the ability wheel. Once you have to start making decisions about what skills are going to go into your active and passive bars over others the combat really starts to get  very deep.

This is of course only if you are able to spend your points in a semi-intelligent way. Character progessions requires quite a bit of planning ahead reminding me of EVE in a way, where you can totally gimp yourself if you choose poorly or on a whim. The main difference is you only waste a few hours instead of weeks.

In addition I'd say just like every MMO it takes 4-6hrs of play time to really unlock any abilites you use in combat all the time. Otherwise most every game out there starts you with a small selection of abilities that you then spam nonstop.

Ya really, I mean I just finished playing thru Ogre Battle from the ps1 for like the 6th time. Combat animations from that are limited to maybe 6 for 30+ hrs of gameplay.

Didn't make the game any less fun, for me at least, ymmv

Vid for example

I frankly could care less about character animations or graphics in general for that matter.

If the content is engagin and character development is half as thought provoking as they are touting it to be I'll play this game, if not, there are plenty of others out there.

I can't think of a single example of a game I quit playing or refused to play based on looks and animations alone. Probably cause I grew up on a diet of Atari and a shelves full of PC games that could all fit on a 1g USB drive now.

As for Funcom's track record, nuts to that. Inthe realm of music there are literally hundreds if not thousands of one hit wonders or bands that released one trancendant album and the rest of their catalog being pure shit. Perhaps this is Funcom's magnum opus, everything is conjecture till open beta.

Permadeath, no...

A system like EQ though, naked corpse runs through hostile territory with an xp penalty for each death.... now that I'm in favor of.

Add in a loot system similiar to that of EVE where a few randomly selected pieces of your equipment drop when killed in PvP... glorious.

EQ is really the only game of the dozens of MMO's that I've played that would make me truly upset after getting killed by something, not just because I lost some xp, but because it would sometimes take an hour just to get back to the place where you died, let alone recover your corpse.

In fact come to think of it the ease and speed of travel in MMO's today is a problem just as large as the inconsequential death penalties. They make these massive virtual worlds that you can get practically anywhere in with less than 15 minutes travel time.

Obviously most of you don't care about the story or something? I do every quest because I love the voice acting and the stories. Even if the quests are already green or grey.

I think everyone knew the story and the whole being in star wars universe was the big selling point. So don't complain afterwards.

I think you're missing the point of this thread, it's not that they don't care about the story, its that playing through it and the dialogue a second time is soul crushingly boring.

You may love the voice acting and the stories now as they are fresh, new, interesting and extremely well done, but..  there will come a point, where if you are anything like the vast majority of MMO players and you roll up that 2nd 3rd or 4th character their novelty will wear off.

I had the same worry the last month or two. I haven't had a desktop for some years now and needed to start from scratch. I spent some time looking around and finally got a Cyberpower PC for $487 after tax. After looking for almost 2 weeks I couldn't assemble a computer I was happy with for under $600 due to the cost of windows. This one, which I know is not by any means a stellar machine, has plenty of room for upgrade. 8gb of ram on newegg is about $47 and now I just need to wait for a bundle deal with the ram and a graphics card. Also, between now and this games projected April 2012  release date I anticipate being able to save between $10-$30 on the cost of the card compared to todays price point.,or.r_gc.r_pw.,cf.osb&biw=1440&bih=797&um=1&ie=UTF-8&tbm=shop&cid=8290193407850535341&sa=X&ei=vtGeTsXPLcStsAK9sszxCQ&ved=0CMQBEPMCMAA

I reserve judgement until I see some gameplay videos and learn more about mechanics and game systems involved.

This rush to judgement displayed by so many active members of the MMO community in general passed being cliche years ago, now it's just an annoyace having to scroll through a glut of doomsayers and negative nellies anytime a game gets announced just to find a substantive post or two.

I wouldn't put much stock in a developers previous games as it weighs towards judging a new product from them either.

Think of it this way, there are a myraid of bands and artists that have put out one sublime or genre altering album/song just to have the rest of their catalog be kinda meh or worse, unlistenable because it pales in comparasion to that one moment they got it perfect.

Lucky me I already posted on this topic:

I really don't have a problem with a vanity item cash shop in my subscription game. Now if I have to pay for content unlocks like quest lines, zones or instances through the cash shop thats a different story and I'll walk away from the game. But as i understand it right now their idea for the shop is purely vanity items and they are welcome to that.

People ranting about it on principal, or it being greedy need to grow up. Its not just entertainmnet, it's a business. At least they have the good sense to plan out a payment model well in advance of launch instead of tacking on a cash shop a few months after launch.

If TSW is a terrbile game it won't matter one bit what pricing model they use, the game will fail. If it's a fantastic game and a success, they have every right to use whatever payment model is going to garner them the most revenue from the game. Revenue they can then use to hire more people, better support TSW with customer service and content development, work on  new games and grow their company.

tl;dr: Without knowing what's in the cash shop, people complaining about it are just the kind of people that like to complain without knowing all the facts about any subject, not just games.

Resubbed to check out the game.  Seemed really dead.  Its a shame because I think this could be the best pvp game on the market.  But no players = no fun in rvr.  Acutally uninstalled today and cancelled my account.

Hope some of these new mmos coming out are good.  Not much out there right now worth playing imo.

Thats weird, I did the exact same thing today. Leveled a DoK up to 27 before I just hit the wall. Nobody doing any of the public quests and the RvR is more like Doorhammer than Warhammer with the two factions just taking turns flipping zones all day.

I followed for months pre-launch, ordered the CE and was ready to go. Played for six months then burned out on the repetive nature of the game. Only thing thats changed in 3 years is that now the world outside of the RvR lakes is a barren wasteland that I saw maybe a half dozen people in outside the starting Tier during my 14 welcome back trial. Also, it's nigh impossible to get into a scenario, I would spend on average at least 5hrs every morning in queue in hopes of getting into one after getting into Tier 2 content.

This game should have been one of the top three in the market the last few years. I lay the blame mostly at the feet of Mythic for selling their souls to EA in what they touted at the time as a perfect way to increase awareness for their game.

I think the Dragon is the most popular faction at the moment becuase its the one that appeals to all the 'I'm a snowflake' players out there.

they don't have to commit to an ideology and the whole chaos thing lets them imagine their character however they want it.

I also perdict a mass exodus from the faction within 2 months of launch, though i won't get into the why of that here, would hate to offend anyone.

sigh .. why does PVP and PVE gear have to be seperate, I just remember back in DAOC there was no such thing as "PVP" gear it was just GEAR and you could take it in PVE or PVP and be fine.

I am tired of games penalizing those of us who enjoy BOTH PVe and PVP by making us basically grind twice for two sets of gear.

Heh, thats not a penalty, thats an intentional mechanic to keep us subbing longer.

I'm optimistic. The potential alone here will make the game worth a serious look when it launches.

I loved this game. Tremere was a blast playing, though their syphon made it a bit easy.

You know, as much as I may dislike the skill gain over time system in EVE in general, it really seems fitting for WoD. Vampires in particular. I mean we do have all of eternity to learn things.

All it really does is force the player to  carefully plan how they wish to develop their character. If you change you mind later or what you decided to learn isn't as useful as you thought it would be, than all it really costs you is time.

I'd be interested to see how they plan to incorporate diablerie into gameplay, if at all.

Follower of Set on reflex if they let me. Tremere otherwise I suppose. Honestly I may start flipping through all the old clanbooks and see what catches my attention now that it's been almost 9 years since I last played the PnP. Tastes change with age ya know.

I just spent a little bit of time over at TSW website and watched their PAX video. It appears that the crowd they drew was quite small - the Funcom presentation area appeared to be a glorified booth. Compare that to SWTOR which had a packed auditorium, with a packed balcony.

For whatever reason, TSW world doesn't seem to be drawing a lot of interest. As a result, the game will be P2P for a year, regardless of how good or bad the game is.

Keep in mind SWTOR is coming out much sooner than TSW and their hype-machine is in overdrive at the moment. SWTOR is constantly releasing new info, zones and gameplay details while TSW is keeping the info to really a trickle in comparasion. From a marketing perspective this is a good move, they shouldn't want to compete for attention with SWTOR at this point, much better instead for them to sit back, wait for SWTOR to blow its proverbial load, and focus next Feb and March on their own marketing blitz for their target April release date. This way they don't expend resources that would be better served filling the void left on sites like here once the anticipation, speculation and shiny newness of SWTOR has worn off.
