After playing SWTOR... why would anyone play wow?
General Discussion « Star Wars: The Old Republic 12/09/11 9:11:31 PM
Originally posted by returnintor LOL! 1. TOR has way more and larger zones to explore than wow.... at any time. 2. TOR has an individual story for each class that you get to decide how it goes through your choices.... in wow there basically is no story unless you want to READ about killing rats to save the planet...lol. 3. In TOR you can click past the dialogue if you wish, but why would you....it's amazing.... at least if your not a drone. 4. TOR has an incredible endgame indeed. 5. TOR is set up with the social aspect in mind and will start out with several million people to get it going. 6. My cute jawa companion is just that.... a companion. But in wow you actually will be the kung fu Po panda.....lol. 7. Wow is already afraid! |

Unfortunately most of those people say those things without ever trying it. And also unfortunately wow and other mmo's have created a playerbase of people that are like drones only trying to get to level cap... because in other mmo's levelcap is all that matters... so of course they don't think they would like it. |

After playing SWTOR... why would anyone play wow?
General Discussion « Star Wars: The Old Republic 12/09/11 8:58:02 PM
I am not trying to cut wow... I played wow for 4 years and enjoyed it. Wow obviously had alot of good things going for it or else why would so many people play it. But after playing SWTOR I can honestly say that in every way it is better than wow. But the reaon for this thread is not just to talk about how TOR is better, but to bring up a point: SWTOR at its core of gameplay is very similar to wow... Everyone seems to agree that there is little to no trouble transitioning as all the controls are the same etc, etc. But TOR also has Full Voice over and an amazing storyline for each class. Not to mention that TOR's graphics are so much cleaner it's ridiculous! There is no question that if you say this game is jus like wow, you at least have to say it is just like wow, but new and improved in every way. So, why would someone continue to play wow? TOR is obviously better. There isn't anything wow is offering that TOR isn't....well except elves and bad graphics. Well and lots of quest text to read. and panda's ....lol! |

What will be the Top MMORPG in 2012?
The Pub at MMORPG.COM « General Discussion 11/14/11 12:56:29 PM
In 2012... It's all about SWTOR! And SWTOR will continue to be king for quite a while. Wow will have a major drop in subscribers the first 6 months SWTOR is out and then continue to die off from there. GW2 will have a pretty decent start with an increase for 3 months, then a decline and level out at around 1.2 million. So at the end of 2012 this is what I see: SWTOR: 6.1 million players Wow: 5.3 million players GW2: 1.2 million players All others are not worth mentioning. I barely mentioned GW2 just to humor myself! |

SWTOR: The Core Makes the Difference!
General Discussion « Star Wars: The Old Republic 11/13/11 5:00:12 PM
Well, Aion came about as close as any that in my opinion failed. But the problem is.. with aion I played to 30 then it was nothing more than a grind and had very little to offer as far as true depth of character or gameplay. Wow I played for severl years. Why, well I hated alot about wow, but at least your character had real depth and the flow of the game made sense. Rift came out of the gate with the appearance of depth, but turned out to be another shallow game. SWTOR has even greater depth than wow and has the most fluid questing system of any mmo out there. I know there is an NDA and I am not basing my opinions of of my beta testing. One of the perks of going to 5 gaming conventions is that you get to play alot. Plus I have meticulously followed this game and all it's details for a few years now. |

SWTOR: The Core Makes the Difference!
General Discussion « Star Wars: The Old Republic 11/13/11 3:11:56 PM
Ok, so we have all heard and are aware of the features TOR has... Full voice over, story driven quests, etc. But what I want to talk about today is one thing in particular that I feel sets this game in the catagory of wow killer. I know that wow will not necessarily die because of this game... the truth is wow is dead because it is old and people are tired of it. But if people are so tired of it, why do they keep playing it?... I believe it is simply because the core build of wow is very strong. Most all MMO's that have come out over the past several years attract attention, then grab alot of players quick, then they very quickly die off. I think this is because those mmo's are built just for that. They look good on the surface, but once you play for a few weeks you realize that it is sorely lacking where it really counts.... at the core. The basic core of it's build. This is where I feel SWTOR made the best decision, because it is obvious from what I have seen and played of the game that they focused on the core of the game and made it great, then plan on building out over time. So when you would normally be sick of Rift, champions online, Aion, AoC, DCUO, and all the others, this game will satisfy for the long haul as wow used to. So why this game over wow? Well wow is old and truly cannot compete. The graphics in SWTOR of obviously far superior, The game engine is far better, the combat and it's animations are far better. And this is not even mentioning the MMO changer of all in my opinion... The full Voice over of the quests! ... Trust me, once you experience full vo story driven quests you will never go back! So for those of you out there who like a quick analogy to sum up my thread: Imagine we are talking about paintings. Wow and SWTOR have been painted on a high quality canvas that has been pretreated to withstand the elements and is very durable. Yes they are the same canvas, but the paintings are completely different. All of the other games are pretty paintings that on the surface look like wow and SWTOR, but are painted on a cheap paper backing that doesn't last. SWTOR wins at the core! |

Ok, someone said SWTOR is like wow in the grind department. I want to point out that though I respect your opinion... this is definitely not the case. Wow is a grindfest mainly because of the design of the game obviously. But what I mean is, because it is all quest text that no one wants to sit and read through, the quests have little to no meaning other than It's a way to get to the good stuff.... level cap. That is wow in a nutshell. When I played wow I had questhelper... I didn't read one single quest, I just did what I had to and endured through the levels so that I could get to endcap. In SWTOR however, there is fully voiced quests that are really fun, exciting, and engaging. I actually plan on taking my time and having fun questing all the way til I have fun at endcap. So basically, it's not a grindfest like wow, because what makes wow a grindfest to begin with is not a problem in SWTOR. Completely different quest design. |

Ok, so the question is: Is this game a grindfest? ... Grindfest usually means your out killing lots of things just to level because you either can't find any quests or you just don't like the quests you did find... so you are simply left to kill, kill, kill over and over again til you are sick of it. Now as far as SWTOR goes, I have played it quite a bit and I can say that they have mastered the way that the quests are designed so that there is no grindfest. #1. There are always quests... tons of them. And they are actually so fun and the story pulls you in so much that you are no longer concerned with getting to level cap because you are having a blast just questing! Also, the quests never seem petty... like: go kill 10 womp rats for no reason. Instead the quests seem alive and have real purpose. And because it is fully voiced and you actually have choices to make in each quest it makes the quests feel even more personal. The quick answer: NO GRINDFEST IN SWTOR!, but if you want you can create one. |

Star Wars: The Old Republic: Choose Your Side - Inquisitor vs Trooper
News & Features Discussion « General Discussion 11/12/11 11:52:53 PM
I love this video... The game is amazing! I personally love the trooper and they did a good job overall on the video, but I did feel like it may have favored the inquisitor just a little. Well maybe not favored, but just seemed to a little better job convincing people on that one. Overall great video though. |
