Leveling and how important is it to you.
General Discussion « Star Wars: The Old Republic 12/13/11 1:40:06 AM
I approach every MMO the same way. I'm in no hurry at all. It's never been a race for me. Don't get me wrong, I love standing on top of the mountain, the view is amazing. But the harder and longer the journey to get there, the more I enjoy it. Plus I am an artist, and love to just wander around at times and enjoy the work that has been done.

Server Discussion "The Fatman"
General Discussion « Star Wars: The Old Republic 12/13/11 1:31:45 AM
It's the name of Zeerid Korr's ship in the book, Star Wars The Old Republic Deceived by Paul S. Kemp. He is a smuggler, once Republic Military. Interesting character. For those like me to lazy to follow the link. And no, I'm not a total Star Wars nerd, I just finished reading the book for some lore for the game. Really! I swear!

You may want to look into this as well. It's free. I ran 2 guilds with it and had one issue total, server disconnect, which was back up in about 2 minutes. A good alternative that's free, and a great back up just in case. Which is how I found it. Used Vent and was having issues, so set it up as a backup, than my members prefered it so we switched over fulltime. |

Knightwatch - Republic PvE/PvP/RP
Guild Recruitment « Star Wars: The Old Republic 12/08/11 2:01:46 PM
Peace is a lie, there is only passion. Through passion, I gain strength. Through strength, I gain power. Through power, I gain victory. Through victory, my chains are broken. The Force shall free me. Ok, on a serious note.....my daughter and I are looking for a guild. I have but one question. Are you all a hardcore, rush to endgame group? A casual group? Or a balance of both? I ask because her and I enjoy the journey, and have found in the past with hardcore guilds we are left behind and treated like second class members. Not that there is anything wrong with the hardcore folks, far from it, if that's your thing. But her and I like to stop once in awhile and smell the burning bodies, umm, I mean flowers, yeah the flowers. Thanks, and take care.

Have we lost sight of real combat "balance"?
The Pub at MMORPG.COM « General Discussion 12/08/11 1:21:27 PM
My opinions on this are and have always been the same. PVP balance issues are a myth. There are systems in place, you learn them, you understand them, and go from there. For me, I want nothing to do with PVP balance, because I find it lame. If a Rogue type player ambushes a cloth wearing caster, the caster should be at a huge disadvantage, and most likely die. Just as that same rogue should be at a huge disadvantage against that same caster from range. Look at what WoW has done over the years to pacify the crying over class imbalance. Now a Rogue can be deadly up close and at range. Now a Warrior, intended to be a pure tank at launch, can now dps just as well. Now a Priest can DPS just as well. Some call that balance. I call it slowly making classes obsolete. Why take a Rogue, Mage, Hunter, Lock with you when you can have Warriors or Priests or Druids that can be tanks, dps,Healer, etc. The problem as I have always seen it, is Bobby wants to own, but Bobby isn't very good at pvp, or doesn't want to put the time in to earn the better pvp gear, so Bobby cries about nerfs, imbalance, OP'd classes. Should Bobby with no PVP gear be able to kill a player with the best PVP gear? No. But Bobby thinks he should. There in lies the problem. I'll give an example I've used before. My daughter and I played Rift together, enjoyed the game, and the pvp. Regardless of what class her and I used, we were constantly the top killers/healers in each round. Where exactly is the balance problem? I tought my mother in law how to use here toon better in PVP in WoW, now she can hold her own and usually is in the top 5 in damage, kills, etc in Battlegrounds. The woman is 67 years old. If she and my daughter can do it, why is it so hard for so many others? Does it take practice? Sure does. Does it take patience? Sure does. The problem is the nerd rage thrown on forums by Bobby beacuse he just got owned by my daughter, or her grandmother. Beacuse Bobby has zero patience, Bobby doesn't want to have to actually earn or learn anything; he just wants to own, and right now. The systems in place are what they are. Are they perfect? No. But they are workable, and make sence. Really, does anyone expect someone that has never fought in their life to win a Karate tourney against a 5th Degree Black Belt? Is a guy standing at a bus station waiting to head off to Basic Training going to be as good a soldier as a 20 year Special Ops Soldier? Not even close. So why do people expect that in an MMO? In the end, Bobby will NEVER be good at PVP. And Bobby was also that annoying guild member that constantly spammed chat with "Someone Power Level Me." "Someone Run me through Deadmines" , etc, etc. So, I basically ignore the cries of balance, nerf, etc, and just move forward, with whatever class I'm playing, understanding the systems in place, and laughing my ass off on GSC with my daughter as we role over all the Bobby's of the world. |

For those who have pre-ordered.............
General Discussion « Star Wars: The Old Republic 12/07/11 2:39:04 PM
I did my pre-order from my local Gamestop 4 days ago. Never got a pre-order code. Talked to the manager, was first told I would get my pre-order code when I picked the game up. Which obviously defeats the purpose of a pre-order that offers early access. Once I pointed this out to him I was told "We don't do that anymore." I hate Gamestop, always have, always will, but in this case I had a huge number of games to trade in so I went there. Long story short, I sent an email to support@swtor.com with the Heading "Gamestop didn't give me a pre-order code." In said email I gave them a brief description of my problem, told them which store I got it from, and included a scan of my receipt. Today, I received my code with an apology and it worked perfectly. Hope this helps anyone else that may run into this problem. @OP...I would contact the seller first, if that gets you no results try the method listed above. Take care.

Why are people obsessed with difficulty and death penalty?
The Pub at MMORPG.COM « General Discussion 11/24/11 11:20:58 AM
You do understand that not everyone has the physical tools required to do the things you mention correct? And oddly enough, in your attempt at sarcasm, you yourself come off as somewhat elitist. And how in the end does it effect you either way? To each his own. Harcore, Carebear, whatever makes the gamer happy in the end is all that matters. Do I want my toon wiped each time I die? No. Do I want to be bored to tears playing an MMO any 6 year old can play to end game in 2 months? No. And trust me, I understand risk/reward. I get the rush thing. I do. But how one goes about getting it matters not to me. I spent 20 years in Army Special Ops, and have paid for it. My body is wrecked, my soul is darker, and my mind is tired. I have seen far to much, done far to much. Now I sit at my PC, with bits of metal in my spine that can't be removed, just trying to have some fun. So, your go ride or do something real instead of getting your rush in a game idea holds no water for me, and plenty of people like me. Not everyone is an athlete. Not everyone can do the things you do, or I have done. For many different reasons. That doesn't mean some people don't want to push themselves, in whatever way they can. Challenge is, challenge. Regardless of where we find it. And not all of us want our hands held in a game to the point where there is none. Sorry for the rant, but the if you want real challenge hit yourself or do something in the real world doesn't and can't apply to everyone. Such as myself. The body is ruined. I do my best to simply live through the discomfort, and find fun and challenge where I still can. |

(TRINITY) is there really a "LACK OF TANKS"? or something else going on?
The Pub at MMORPG.COM « General Discussion 10/25/11 7:54:13 PM
I have played a huge amount of MMO's over the years, prefering to play many than say stick with one year after year. From what I have seen, there has always been a shortage of Pure Healers and even more so Tanks. And over the years I have found that for every good tank, there are at least 100 that truly suck. I have come across bad healers, but most have been good, as they tend to be a MUCH more patient lot. FAR to many tanks are impatient, cause wipe after wipe and blame the healer, or the dps. And for me, on a side note, the one game that got the tank right, one of the few things it got right, was Warhammer Online. No Clipping. Tanks that can actually BE tanks, such a novel concept. Loved the War tanks, they could actually block stuff. I hate clipping in MMO's and hope one day it will be gone for good. Moving through creatures, players, etc, to me is just stupid, and crushes the strategy aspect of fighting, blocking, tanking, etc. Though I do see the downside, being pinned into a corner by some griefer like you see so often in games like Modern Warfare. |

Will you still be playing MMOs in 10 years time?
The Pub at MMORPG.COM « General Discussion 10/21/11 3:10:40 AM
Been a gamer since the beginning. Currently retired and 45, I'll be playing them as long as I can sit in front of a PC and move my hands. Love games and Art. Will be doing both til I drop. Play a lot of differnt stuff, mostly shooters and MMo's. Unlike a lot of people these days I enjoy them all for what they are or offer. Enjoy theme parks, sandboxes, F2P, etc. For me, I just like to explore the worlds, get out of them what I can. I understand the complaints, I truly do, but until those new inovative games do come out, I'm gonna keep on playing. Played Perfect World and loved it til it became such a huge grind, than moved on. Played and enjoyed RoM, hit the end, buy or grind, so I once again moved on. Same with Allods, which I thought was very well made. Played it til I got bored or had to pay to compete, and moved on. Currently still play AoC, EQ2, Fallen Earth, TF2, Arma2, and looking forward to BF3. I am a gaming Vampire, I drain the games of all the fun I can, than just move on to another. For me it's a great time to be a gamer, so many choices. I realize a lot of the new stuff isn't for everyone, but I love the genre, and like to explore them all if and when I can. For me I never want to get stuck in one MMO again only. To much fun to be had. Though it looks like I'll play GW2 for quite awhile.

Best Benchmark Program for New Rigs and Newegg Rebates?
Hardware « General Discussion 10/06/11 1:50:44 AM
For all my Newegg rebates there was a PDF link right on the item description page. Would say something like $149.99 after rebate for example. Clicking on that brought up the link to download the pdf of the rebate. Hope that helps.

Why do "grinders" bother about those who want to race to end level? Why make a problem out of nothing?
The Pub at MMORPG.COM « General Discussion 10/04/11 5:19:02 PM
For me honestly, it's not about rage or hate. Not even close. It is about the death of anything even resembling a community. The grinders will take their time, enjoy a game more, group more, and quite frankly make MUCH better guild members. The racers are the ones you'll see posting a month after a game launches how the game had no content. And they are more often than not the ones that complain the loudest about simple minded linear gameplay. And yet in their obsession to reach cap they follow the most narrow path to get there. I have run guilds, and been in many great ones over the years, and the racers are aweful guild members on average. They could generally care less about the guild, its members, etc. It's all about them, the cap, and the shinny crap that waits there. The problem isn't that racer/grinder is even, it's that the racer mentality has and now does make up the majority of gamers. Zero patience. Zero grouping. Now this is obviously just my opinion, and I have powerleveled/raced toons to endgame. But only after I've enjoyed the journey the first time. And that mentality doesn't define me. If someone needs help, even a member 40 levels lower, I jump on an alt and help them, level with them, etc. With the racer, that is pretty much not going to happen. The instant gratification of the console gamer has invaded the PC world, and it's not changing any time soon. In the end, do I care if you powerlevel to cap? No. To each his/her own. Whatever you find to be fun, do that. I just think the racers are missing the point of what an MMO really is, or should be. |

Do you complain about games you don't play?
General Discussion « Mortal Online 10/01/11 1:14:40 PM
For me, no, I wouldn't complain about games I haven't played. And I form my own opinions, based on my experience. I rarely if ever listen to others opinions as they are just that. I may like it. So, I try it for myself. In the case of Mortal Online, I played the trial, not for 10 minutes but for the duration of said trial, and in the end, to me, it's quite terrible. The worst MMO I've played since WW2 Online. Being a fan of sandbox games myself, it's sad to see people have to play Mortal Online/Darkfall, hoping they get better because the options are limited. Can they get better? Sure. Should sandbox fans be paying to beta test games which should have never been launched? No.

So is this site considered THE mmorpg hub?
The Pub at MMORPG.COM « General Discussion 9/30/11 10:41:54 PM
I have far to many sites bookmarked, but usually only come here. I like the site, the features, and the forum posters passion for the genre. I myself was banned (my fault), and when I spoke to them about it they allowed me to come back. They didn't have to, and I was grateful they heard me out and decided to overlook my stupidity. Honestly, if more people (myself included) would actually take the time to read the Rules of Conduct at the bottom of the page a lot fewer people would be warned or banned.
