@OP

With my power as a consumer, when a f2p game comes along that i want to play, I'll check it out. If I can avoid spending money on the game, all the better. If I just can't avoid paying, I'll leave and play something else. No harm, no foul.

In the case of GW2, I'll play as long as it's fun to me. If it's fun for a while, I'll buy some stuff on cash shop to say "thanks for this experience". Simple, yes? I'm a semi-budget-conscious consumer and if I can avoid spending money on a game that's no longer fun, I will, and if I have to pay a regular fee to play, then I damn well better play my money's worth and find fun while playing it; lest I waste my game time and unsub.

The social aspects may keep me for a time, only if we do fun stuff together. Thus, the game must be fun to play with others and be worth spending my money on the content. Again, simple.

I don't understand anyone touting gloom and doom for free to play games. They're free and if the consumer doesn't like their cash shops... they'll leave the game and never spend a dime. Pay to win is what it is, and most reasonable consumers realize it's a bad model and will leave. In the end, it's my disposable income, and I'll spend it how I please.

TL;DR

It's my money! I'll spend it how I want! Consumer powers activate!

PS: I'm not the most inteligent forum poster here, but I try. :)

It's an... interesting idea, and it does help new players learn, but WoW's too old for it. Blizzard's not going to do anything like this. They had a chance to for Cataclysm, but they didn't take that chance. Besides, like another poster said, the leveling goes too quick for anyone to even care about content of this type. Hell, I even doubt anyone runs lvl 60 or 70 raids anymore unless it's for achievements and kool transmogs; it's not really made for leveling and the gear gets replaced in just 2-4 levels, if that, by the next expansion's basic questing gear.

I don't hate the idea. It's just not a plausible one.

To start this on a... strange note. I want friends. I'm seeking a new server and guild. I left about a year ago over guild drama (ask me the whole story in PM if you like). I also used to play Alliance (big shock) but would like to play Horde (if) when I return to the game. I liked tanking for groups a whole lot. I'll need a Scroll of Rez...

But wait! I'm kind of asking for a project. I lost love for the game before because it felt like a job when I had no one enjoyable to play with. What I want is a group of friends or guild to call my own again. Also, here's the kicker, I don't want to pay a sub unless I find friends to play with long-term. So, send me a PM if you think your guild or server is fun and can convince me to return for more than the week I get for free (seems weird and selfish, I know). I may even pay to have my old main transfered and faction converted to fit (a Death Knight tank), if the friends are worth it.

It's a shot in the dark, but I'm bored to madness and believe that returning to what I know, with new friends, will help me get over this slump. My friends irl don't play WoW and never will. I may have gone crazy and am craving an experience that doesn't exist any more, one with friends, but damn it! I may as well try! :D

Barring real life concerns and other MMOs coming up, I'll be able to play consistantly, usually around afternoons and evenings. We should correspond through PM beforehand to better organize a plan around our schedules; I want to get my time's worth out of what I feel comfortable with (either a week or month).

Thanks for reading.

TLDR: I'm a 24-year-old seeking new WoW friends, guild, and server. I want to play Horde. Strive to be a great tank. Don't like "playing a job" in games; I hope new friends will help eliminate that feeling. Scroll of Rez, please. Will resub if my new guild seems enjoyable long-term. May even tranfer and convert old main to fit new guild (a Death Knight tank). Please, send PMs before sending a Scroll key.

I've been feeling the same way lately. I joined pretty late and hadn't got into all that secret non-replacable stuff, but I still feel that abandoning my old characters is a huge loss. My old realm is, also, an example of bad playership (Alliance, of course). The problem? I don't want to give Blizz any more of my money, and besides, it's all about the friends that will play with you, not the actual game play. Starting over would suck for finding new friends (good friends, preferably). Yet, a bad investment of time is better than none, at least when you're as bored as me. :/

Alas, their "free" accounts are severely limitted by level and lack of expansion, and any form of resurrection for the account is also limited by time. Let's face it, noone wants to play vanilla anymore and the first 20 levels are as dull as a bag of hammers. I played for the end game, and it's just a gear treadmill when you play without friends. I lost my friends the moment they benched me indefinately for less reliable players, but I digress.

Point is. If you have no money, no time, or no friends that play anymore, you're better off huddled in the dark... fighting the shakes from your WoW withdrawal. And any talk about coming back will only serve to make WoW -- and Blizzard by extension -- stronger in this fight to find something new and truly exciting. If you still want to go back and try to squeeze what you can from the game, I won't stop you. May Blizz have mercy on your wallet (and soul?) when they steal it again. -_-

Yeah... It's one of those "pay $15/month to kill x of y" games that I can't spend my time or money on anymore. Combat's cool, but other starting content is severely lacking in that attention getting factor. If it were F2P or B2P, I'd reconsider; at least until something else comes along. Otherwise, for me, it's a pass.

Ok, i read your post again.

Here is EXACTLY what you said:

(i can)  "play as good or as bad as I was able ... without putting anyone else at risk or ruining anyone else's game. "

Now, if you (or anyone else) play as bad as you're able, do you not think that this results in the event having less chance of succeeding?  For example, events spawn for 20 people.  If the other 19 people are just barely completing their part, but you fail at yours, do you not think that you're in some way responsible for the group's failure?

You, by participating in a dynamic event are directly responsible for the event scaling up to the number of people participating.  If 10 people are present and 9 go afk, the other person will have to defeat an event scaled to 10 people.  That person will most certainly fail, do you not think those 9 people are in some way responsible for that failure?  After all, if that person was alone, he'd only have a 1-person event to fight and his chances at success would be much greater.

On the flipside, if the game is indeed designed so that events are SO easy that 10-person events can be beaten by 1 if the others are slacking off, well, then I was correct in the first place.

If me pointing out that people should be respectful of others and take responsibility for their actions somehow makes me a tactical genius,  i'll take that as a compliment.  (Napoleon is spelled with an "o" btw. I apologize in advance in case your "lifestyle challenges" prevent you from knowing how to spell "Napoleon" as well as fail to prevent you from referencing things you don't know much about.),

When you share a world with others, your actions generally have an effect on them whether you like it or not.  Just because the game absolves you of any need to actually communicate with people, doesn't mean that what you do does not matter to them.  Sorry.

There is no such word as, "i'll."

1 is spelled, "one," when used in a sentence.

10 is spelled, "ten," when used in a sentence.

There is no such word as, "i."

You might want to work on proper use of punctuation, such as the use of comma's in conjunction with quotation marks, in a sentence.

You might want to revisit basic sentence structure guidelines available in any high-school text.

You are correct about the proper spelling of Napoleon, though that is not the original spelling of the name.

Now, going beyond basic grammar and spelling, you might want to consider reviewing the logic of expressing something as, "almost certainly," in the absence of supporting data. A purely hypothetical supposition, completely lacking in supporting data, exists in a state of complete lack of certainty. Such a situation is nearly the opposite of certainty, as opposed to close to it as, "almost," implies in your statement.

You are welcome.

Lol! Oh, snap!

This thing is getting off topic, but I like this guy's correction/statement. Some actual intelligence for once.

On topic: I don't think GW2 will be "revolutionary". It's an MMO after all; just as iterative as any other. But there will be some much needed improvements to the formulae of the industry in question. Like the OP said, I believe the social interactions are one of those improvements and will serve the game well, but it's hardly the revolution that it's claimed to be.

Great game! Wanna play it now! I just don't think it needs all this hype... Over hyping the game will only lead you to disappointment.

Nice vid! Thanks for the post.

Yeah! Definately, I had no idea the insignias were so important. Here's looking to the next BWE!

Sorry if i offended you..was only joking...

OK back to topic: players at WoW that actually think that PvP in that game is not hardcore

Just kidding..just kidding

Eh... not offended. Just very, very bored; both inside and outside WoW. :) Good thing I quite that game...

nostalgia

Agreed... that and the "iche". "Just one more month! I'll [insert lingering desire here]! o_O" Also, the idea that nothing more appealing to a former WoW player is released yet... I'm looking forward to GW2, but I still have that urge to get the WoW iche out of my system while I'm not playing in GW2's BWEs.

...Hello, my name is Daniel. I'm a WoW adict. I've been clean for almost six months! :)

I enjoyed myself. It was fun. The bugs were anoying, but beta is beta is always BETA. Can't be anything else. I look forward to playing the next event and live. Those who rage about the bugs are just immature, whining babies.

I'm an ALTon Brown, PWNer of a Lonely Heart, Neo, Guy on the Couch, and Jilted Lover; in that order. I discovered the phases of my guild personality while playing that one most popular MMORPG... You all know the one I mean. This article is more about the phases I went through playing that one game than any single description of me as an MMORPG gamer or guild mate.

That's right... I'm the everygamer! LOL

What'll happen with my next MMO? Ask me a month to a year after GW2 comes out. :) I hope for a Doogie Howser (I'm actually 23 tho...) or another Neo phase... on second thought, ALTon Brown; cause alts are how I play and who I am!

Dueling is a waste of my time in any MMO. I prefer to have a reason to fight; not just a random person proposing a duel.

Full voice acting can do little to cover up generic quests that you find at every turn. Eventually as you play, after first being blown away by "the richness of story", you find that engaging in the dialogue is a chore just to get to the "kill 10 this" or "collect 10 that" quests. In light of the waste of time, even if you haven't heard this guy's shpiel, you feel compelled to just skip all the dialogue and get on with the questing. After playing through some few hours completely hyped up, it's a disappointment; I'm thoroughly dissapointed. The money and effort put into voicing every character for every interaction should've been put to better use; such as adding newer, better content.

I've realized, despite my possitivity for this game before, that SWTOR has just become another MMO clone in several of the worst ways and few of the best. I've unsubscribed weeks ago and only plan on getting dragged back once my friends make me, but right now, I'm playing games that hold my interest in gameplay and not necessarily quality of story or voice acting.

To answer the article's question... YES! For God's sake, YES! Stop SOPA! It's an enormous wad of death for freedom of expression over the internet. It must be stopped if America has any hope for keeping its freedoms for much longer in the future.

DOWN WITH SOPA!

Now, the article itself is well written and approaches the issue objectively. I enjoyed reading it. Unfortunately, I don't like expressing myself objectively for something I feel is so important to my way of life. It just feels so cold... >_>

Yes, sir. That's why i skip the damn things now. O.o

Um... ok, well, the article's sugestions seem awesome; I just want to play the game. :)

Hmm... we shall see. >_>

Lol! Agreed, sir. Skyrim it is! :D

*strokes chin pensively* We shall see. -_-
