[Column] World of Warcraft: The 5.1 Effect
News & Features Discussion « General Discussion 12/04/12 2:11:27 PM
Love this patch.. Blizz is trying there best to let the War have a real effect..
Lol @ person on pve severs complaining they feel they are being gated into pvp events.. As a member on illidan server (pvp) this patch has surely heat up the conflict a bit, but as the saying goes "nothing lasts forever", so i'm expecting in a few week for horde and alliance to just see each other and ignore each other.. |

As a player who came into mmo with the introduction of EQ, can't say I played Ultima Online but does anyone really think the mmo environment is heading back to such style from a big name dev.. For one mmo cost way too much and they are seen now as more than just letting the player have fun.. Such a system if implemented in todays mmo space will be dumb down, because they have try to please the most person possible..
All the feature describe by the Op would be best put in an independent company game that don't need alot of return to stay open.. Maybe a dev like eves. |

[Column] Guild Wars 2: Level 80, Now What?
News & Features Discussion « General Discussion 12/03/12 1:46:59 PM
Back to the she old question.. What is too fast or too slow level progression.. My personal take on GW2 leveling is that it's fast almost as fast as wow BUT as i'm sure most know you can go back and do past stuff you miss.
The thing is make leveling too slow the greater portion complains, make it too fast the person who had more free time reaches level cap fastest and then some from the greater portion still complains, how is it they can't reach cap as fast, so it must be made faster.. Also the trend in todays mmo market is not to make it slow because person a quick to move on if leveling is dragged out.. I got three 80's and accomplish all I set out to do, so its $60 well spent.. But the feeling to log in isn't there, maybe because there is no sub where I would feel the need to justify paying $15 a month, whatever the case i'm waiting for the next big mmo to try out.. |

Its Ea we are dealing with here.. When it come to setting what's free and what's nickle and dimed to us, Ea has the final say.. Ea knows what it will take to get more person to play, but you won't feel restricted into paying for anything now would you.. Plan A, restrict you so much that the monthly plan seem like God send... Plan B, let you pay for the simplest thing, hoping you don't see that you have just spent more that the sub cost..
All boils down to cooperate greed.. If Bioware was still independent this game or there first mmo would have be handle differently... Its much different Bal game when the publisher owns you than when you're on your own and can shop around.. |

[Dev Journal] WildStar: The Ravaging of Arboria
News & Features Discussion « General Discussion 11/24/12 9:29:22 AM
@ Arglebargle
I hope they are not expecting big sub numbers for the game, and as such I think it should go guild wars 2 route with cash shops and all.. If it goes sub and charge $15 a month, it will be in trouble after maybe month 3 because once again most will agree that it isn't worth $15 a month.. One of the problem with the mmo market is that its becoming too crowed for games to stay afloat, but nice for gamers because no sub and more choice.. |

[Column] Star Wars: The Old Republic: Chatting SWTOR F2P with Blaine Christine
News & Features Discussion « General Discussion 11/21/12 1:28:07 PM
These dev won't change there f2p practice until a popular game goes f2p and finally do it right and attract most of the other fans from other f2p games.. Then and only then they'll change there ways or close the game all together..
Bash perfect world/cryptic all you want but in cryptic games its probably 10% or less that's locked away from f2p option, things like cap increases on currency, char slot etc.. But you can run all other stuff unlimited.. |

TERA: Play Free to Level 28 'Discovery Edition' Announced
News & Features Discussion « General Discussion 11/18/12 8:39:30 PM
I honestly can't see what should be p2p, B2P or f2p anymore.. I think the mistake is PRICING, yes a steady flow of cash is good to keep a business afloat but why do all these publishers and devs think there game is worth $15 a month.. Why can't someone start or try a different pricing structure.. Where is the $2, 5 or $10 a month pricing.. Most go f2p after awhile, that will in turn overcrowd the f2p segment as it is in Korea and other parts.. Is that the market most of us want to see?

[Column] Guild Wars 2: Gear or Character Progression?
News & Features Discussion « General Discussion 11/15/12 3:43:16 PM
As the saying goes don't take a devs early "promotional wording" as final.. We have seen it countless times before, so why did most give arenanet the benefit of the doubt based of a single merit title (GW1) they had before, pfft...
this progression can work to some extent, here's how.. Since they have the means to stat scale base on the area your in and lv.. They could make these new items stats go up when your in a dungeon, and out in a zone scale the stats back to the norm of other high level items.. |

News & Features Discussion « General Discussion 10/29/12 12:17:10 PM
This better be B2P because I don't see alot of person staying after month 2..
Someone on another site brought up something that GW2 was able to achieve that if i'm correct very few mmo was able to pull off, and that's a sense your not left behind and needed to play on a constant basis.. In other words its the mmo for person with social lives.. If other mmo can pull that off then I think persons wouldn't mind paying.. This game seems to be building up like ToR did until person tried the beta and we know how that went. Here's hoping these guys take note.. |

[Preview] The Elder Scrolls Online: Reveling in the Combat
News & Features Discussion « General Discussion 10/24/12 1:44:24 PM
Sorry but combat for me in the ES series is one of the weak points.. Now that I think deeper, if the ES series wasn't open world but use the same combat as it does now, would most still find it appealing..
I haven't seen anyone say the play the ES series because the combat was good.. I think more than not its the adventuring in first person and the open-worldness that got person hook, plus the addiction of you making and playing your char anyway you want.. |

@ Vesavius
Guess that's why the Sims was so popular.. But I get you point. also does anyone know how resource heavy and expensive housing would be on the servers.. Back in the day with galaxies, or before then stuff was a bit cheaper to do.. Now we are in frickle mmo market that seems they want all future releases to be B2P, or if its sub base most probably start hitting cap and quitting after 3 months.. So I don't think its that housing is hard, i think the way the market is, that has an influence on what makes it in.. |

Sorry but if the combat in this is slow, i won't be playing..
And any word on if its sub base or hybrid F2p, because no matter how good they make it, the mmo market is way too picky to stay long term.. And please don't say look a wow, most of wow members are vets and don't want to let go of there character progression.. |

Will someone please fill me in on what's the big deal with housing?
For the love of mmo I can't see the big deal with or without housing and I guess most dev see it that way as well, because if its an essential feature it would be there on launch day.. I can see I being cool in Eso as its apart of the ES series, but even in Gw2 they are asking for housing.. |

@bbbb42
Customer loyalty is priceless, and blizz is one of the few companies that have good customer loyalty.. For everyone that was angry at blizz for D3, 5 more fans agree with the decision they made... Crazy I know.. As such you maybe right on them seeing sandbox mmo style is the untap market, and they wanna get there project out the door before blizz, but that is going to work in blizz favor, because blizz will look where they all went wrong, make it simpler for mass acceptance and then these guys will scratch there head and say why they didn't do it like that... And of course blizz loyal fans will follow suit... |
