Who is still on the fence considering to buy this game?
General Discussion « The Secret World 7/18/12 4:25:09 AM
Originally posted by angzt That was my point, it is a single player RPG, sell it that way. People have finished every quest and filled out the entire skill wheel. That is FULL completion and it has only been two weeks. Is strange though when this game gets props in the OP for having "plenty" content. Quantity of content is objective, so 60 to 80 hours may be plenty. Maybe I expect to much from MASSIVE MO games. Yes it has as much content as a single player RPG. It is a pretty average RPG though. This game has plenty of issues I don't mention, so I'm not out for blood. It just happens to be my most recent MMO, when I pick up another one will go over there.

Combat is terrible, worse beyond Kingsmouth
General Discussion « The Secret World 7/17/12 5:33:25 PM
Originally posted by jdnyc The taunt, you use once in a fight and if the fight lasts 30 hours you can do well with a two button rotation after. If one weapon is swords, even better. The second part doesn't hold, GW2 spent much more effort polishing the game and even more so on combat. Even with limited skills. The skills present play differently within a single class then two opposite builds in TSW. I can't think of a single MMO with such underwhelming skills, even the (Elite) abilities are just basic CC. Read any review, the combat was put on blast in TSW and I would think the two button spam combat would be one of the reasons, another would be weak abilities all around. Here is why GW2 combat is better, better defined skills and more strategy http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rO6tyJ8oG6E

TSW most innovative mmorpg of the year.
General Discussion « The Secret World 7/15/12 11:58:21 PM
Originally posted by evolver1972 please list what is innovative. so far in this thread no one listed a single thing. innovative means something new. TSW borrows everything from what I say after playing through 7 of 8 zones. |

The Secret World - please help me with my decision!
General Discussion « The Secret World 7/15/12 10:48:27 PM
Originally posted by pongdun Rift has an 84 on metacritic and way more polish + updates. TSW has a 73. In reality TSW started with half of the content of day 1 rift. No one can desagree that rift has four plus times the content of TSW. My addition is rift also has better core game mechanics and polish. better instances and raids. I played rift. |

Any fist build for all factions, by a long shot. AR is nurfed it is way underpowerd because leach is underpowered. The game isn't balanced. Blood is second but restores nothing. Fist primary and 1 or 2 blood abilities would be best. By best, I mean is no reason to try anything else as you are gimping yourself. Is 1 BEST tank, Heal, and DPS. use a parser. |

Players rubberbanding/lagging/whatever around in PvP...
General Discussion « The Secret World 7/14/12 1:06:41 PM
Originally posted by BigRock411 I already mentioned lag swtich, the reason is distance. The other even better reason imo is jousting type pvp if 2 players have the same distance. One issue with TSW is a 180 degree attack arch, which is not good for a pvp game esp when assault rifle range greater than all by a lot, but it will still work out to a slight advantage in PvP. |

Players rubberbanding/lagging/whatever around in PvP...
General Discussion « The Secret World 7/14/12 12:59:51 PM
Originally posted by negativf4kk You didn't read the OP, the issue is server locations. No lag gives advantage if you hot a match in say FPS, huge lag gives advantage in MMOs. This isn't a PvP game but if you have a ping of 4,000 something is wrong. If it was me, I would lag switch it up to 4,000 and you would never lose a 1v1. It isn't a PvP game but can get rank 10 gear very easy from PvP.

Originally posted by JayZas Those games have higher production values, more stuff, etc. I am in an American school and anyone who gets a C or less has issues.A 7.5 or 75 is a C. If you get lower than a C you have to repeat core classes to graduate. I'm supprised an MMO would release today without much thought to combat, this is why the game rated so poorly. To be fair, these early reviews are judging the game like they would a regular game: combat, mechanics, story, etc. like a single player RPG. TSW doesn't have much past a short single player RPG, if you take more than 100 hours finishing everything something is wrong. I took 70 in beta. Not including if you repeat stuff, such as instances. It has been two weeks and many are finished everything, instances are getting beat on the hardest setting every day. I would hope the MMO score would be much lower than 7.5. poor combat, worst PvP in years, no raids. skills and passives are not balanced. Story is an xfile rip off and many of the quest are. many quest are the same old kill 30 of these for 4 tiers. So why was this game made? The lead developer is no stephen king, his writing is cliche, there are no options and fewer voice overs than SWTOR. most quest are green that have no voice over, is why you can have 3 of them. Everquest 2 had more voice acting. |

Originally posted by Lord.Bachus If I was still playing that would have been the last straw. PvP wasn't doing it for me and no word on end game, also 2 button combat. I took my sig link from some random forum I just noticed Famine posting in about combat of all things. No I'm no stalker, I just read that forums for upcomming VG news http://shoryuken.com/forum/index.php?threads/how-do-fighting-game-designers-assign-moves-to-characters.163872/ |

Originally posted by Wickedjelly Neither is very good for different reasons but here is the example you gave http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qvodE0T8pzE looks as boring as it was when I played, standard tank and spank, move away from white markers. Everything is tank or kite and spank, SWTOR required strats and besides the enrage timers everyone had to be doing the right thing. SWTOR has some puzzles going on with some of the boss fights too. After playing SWTOR, then Tera, I was surprised how much the quality of group instances had dropped. Here are some small team SWTOR: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nfYIOXMUbVk http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3qUtHxL6pHM 4 man instance: D7 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dvpw8oGeQss&feature=relmfu

Originally posted by Wickedjelly You don't need a huge white marker on the ground to know when to avoid stuff in SWTOR, the scripting and animations where better in SWTOR, fight mechanics aside from timed enrage. I'm not a SWTOR fan, I played it a few months but found it to be tailered to the super casual players. Even worse is the; everyone is a winner philosophy where itemozation in SWTOR is supposed to be the same for everyone. WoW is rumored to be like that. In SWTOR you can custom both the stats and appearacne of your gear like SWTOR. Darkside scoundrel was a funny story and whatever the word means to make fun of itself. movies do it a lot. The morality system is what Bioware was founded on, EA killed the quality but you can't blast SWTOR's story, any of those class stories aside from jedi shadow was well done and would have made a great single player RPG.

Originally posted by sycofiend Both games are the same old, they bring nothing new to the MMO formula. Grind quests/mobs get loot and XP. Setting doesn't change anything is my point as it is cosmetic. WoW has guns too ;p |

Originally posted by mindw0rk SWTOR prabably released more content in the first 6 months than TSW will be abe to in 6 months. You can't really knock SWTOR as it has way more players today. discounting the free week going on now. SWTOR has better combat, the warzones are better designed, and it has raids. not the best but it has more to keep players than TSW does. |

Originally posted by Poolman2000 Tera is probably the best world PvP, the only penalty is like 15 minutes corpse runs and broken enchants or a kill when GvG. The biggest risk vs reward now in ranked PvP where you have your team and try to beat the other team. Has been hype for a while as getting to the top is hard and you don't have to grind, just play a set number of matches and play better than your opposition. Dayz has permadeath so can be fun. TSW has tacked on combat then went ahead and tacked on PvP just before release. |

Gamespot review 7.5 or 75 User score 7.9 after 100 players posted 10s on day 1 Metacritic 7.2 or 72 Is this surprising anyone who played it? combat, pvp, not much content, BUGz. |

MMORPG with the best Necromancer class?
The Pub at MMORPG.COM « General Discussion 7/10/12 10:58:46 PM
EQ1...necros don't need a group because they are a group. I played a necro in rift and was cool, but nor even close to EQ1. I play tanks but I do have a soft spot for necros even thought I didn't play a necro in eq1, just knew a bunch of them. I played a tank till rifts forst instance and couldn't find a group so rerolled to necro. |

I know some gamers get paid from e sports, Korea. 100k USD + contracts while taking 1st place in MLG might cover travel expenses. Others exploit or grind for chump change in RMAH like diablo or more nefarious exploits. Diablo 3 players where acting a fool over the RMAH with $$$ in their eyes before bots and dupes exploited to victory. The only real overlord game is the stock market in which most MMO companies get traded in. So how can we use our knowledge to get paid? So what is they key, to profits? Even after playing closed beta I am unsure of the game's future. I notice a dire lack of content so know the game will not do as well as expected. Yet the stock is pumped high after company officials declare expectations. Short sell every MMO. post launch? (short sell, is when you sell what you don;t have and have X number of days to deliver so you buy later on for a lower price. MMOs are meant for longevity and I know MMOs are not built that way anymore. Though you only have two weeks at most to short a stock and it takes months for many MMO casuals to /unsub. When would be the best time's to short a stock? launch is one I see, maybe 1 month after launch, and then a day before the quarterly report. any critiques or tips? |

Any other healers enjoying the challenge?
General Discussion « The Secret World 7/10/12 9:06:35 PM
Originally posted by gigat You are gimping yourself. Leach abilities where nerfed. is way underpowered. Other than that it is the easiest MMO to heal in ever. You can heal while moving, you get double heal spenders. I played a tank in instances and know it was easy because I was 3/4 tank and 1/4 healer and a few times my healer died early. Don't think most people will enjoy healing as it is boring 111111 2 3 1111111 2 3, many said as much on the official forums. The bosses are much much easier than a lot of MMOs though, rift, WoW, everquest 1, everquest 2, swtor, tera, warhammer's bosses where nuts at release, aion's bosses where nuts at release. I always tank but have good communication with healers. PvP is about the same. |

Originally posted by SpottyGekko Once you disreguard asian players as they don't use xfire, WoW has closer to 2-3 million players, Then you have to remember some things, it is summer time, the expansion is on the way, not much has come out in a while, many players have cleared and farmed everything for a long time. WoW is pretty strange as like other games they bill differently in asia. I'm not sure if charging some kid on a 96 hour straight marathon session at the local cafe gets marked down as a subscriber or not, I just don't know. I would say maybe 1 millionish WoW players log on everyday in the states, europe, and australia. |

Originally posted by SlickShoes What is the cool game everyone plays today? League of Legends? 34,000 players play it with x fire. Call of duty 4 pretty cool? 45,000 players play it with x fire. WoW? 11,000 players. Someone has to tell those people how untrendy they are. What do TSW players use that measures game activity better? black berrys, ! pad, carrier pigeon? TSW asks you to use X fire. So next time you are in game warn those poor 1,000 souls using it about how un trendy it is. |
