Just started playing, having fun so far, it's an amusing diversion. As someone else said, wouldn't be my "main" game but it's something that I can run on the other monitor while I play Torchlight 2. It'll keep me busy until Wildstar comes out.

Got a friend to try & he seems to like it as well. After years of easy 1-click hand-holding-type stuf, this is refreshing. Not quite fantasy EVE in a browser but it'll do for now. :)

Played in the Beta, LOVED it & will be pre-ordering. To those concerned about the sub rate, meh, I began playing when sub rates were the norm & I usually had multiple accounts anyway. $15/month is basically nothing, & worth it for almost unlimited entertainment for 30 days. $15 is too much??? That's not even 2 movie tickets these days. I'm in.
I want to play Wildstar because I've been tracking & waiting on it for quite a while now. Getting more than a little tired of the fantasy/sword & sorcery theme of most MMO's & want to play something different. Hoping Wildstar will be my main game for 2014.

Hello Scott. Long-time Rift/new Defiance player here, just wanted to say, the concept of Defiance is really really cool, but it appears that, in some areas of the game, melding the PC & console users seems to have been hit & miss. I know you've said you don't want to steal any of your dev team's thunder in your responses, but there's a lot of concern among the Defiance playerbase about the future of the game, wondering if the game is ultimately just going to be a gimmick to go along with the show or if making it everything it could be is a priority.

There are so many great things about the game, but also a lot of bugs, glitches & quality-of-life issues, like the aforementioned chat, the poorly-designed menu interface & UI, the roller coaster difficulty (most encounters are too easy, Volge are too difficult for newer players), item inconsistencies, etc, that players would like to see fixed as much/more so than just getting new shinies in the form of additions to the cash shop & content.

Are these things in-the-works? We all want the DLC's, of course, but we'd also like the things currently in the game to work properly as well. I know that you may not have in-depth info on that, I think everyone just wants to know that these things will eventually be addressed. There hasn't been very much communication on the status of those & other issues &, combined with the layoffs, has Defiance players worried that the game is/will become an afterthought.

Hoping that won't happen, just started & coaxed a couple of friends to play & we're enjoying it so far, but I can see how things could become monotonous & how some minor annoyances in the game could eventually lead to frustration over time.  The makings of a classic game are there, we just hope that Trion sees that & dedicates the resources towards making Defiance all that it can be.

Thanks for your time.

i uninstalled the game yesterday. Its been about a month since i stopped playing due to getting bored so quick after loggin in. COuldnt stay on for more than 10 minutes. WAsnt enjoying the content at all, and the visuals didnt help (i always found Rift to be the ugliest looking modern mmo since launch). I will most likely try it again after this content patch lands. Hopefully the game becomes interesting again. I was kind of happy when it went F2P and enjoyed it for a few weeks until the boredom slapped me in the face.

So you're going to reinstall the hideous boring game you despise & couldn't play for more than 10 minutes at a time which you just uninstalled so that you can try the new patch? Mmkay.

You hit the nail on the head, what it offers is that ff feeling, it was never going to be the next step in mmorgs, in fact it was never pitched as that. Decent game as long as you are not looking for cutting edge which it is not.

Exactly. Guess that's why I'm underwhelmed, I gravitate towards games that are offering something that, to me anyway, is new, different, innovative, exciting, etc, so for me there's nothing fantastic there, just the same old, same old. I did have some cool deja vu-ish moments when certain pieces of familiar-sounding music began playing, but for what I'm looking for & have come to expect, although FF14 is much better than the first go-round, I'm not having orgasms & humping the monitor like some of the reviews of it that I've read.

Aside from the signature FF/Square aspects, it's an ok run-of-the-mill MMO. In that way it reminds me a bit of SWTOR, as in, being totally honest, would anyone even be playing it if it didn't have FF in the title?

I've played this game since the 2nd Closed Beta, giving it a try, a chance, to see what everyone seems to love about it, but to quote Tom hanks from "Big", I don't get it.

Now granted, I've played SOOOOOOO many MMO's, pretty much any & everything AAA & quite a few F2P's since Runescape, so I'm more than a wee bit jaded, but aside from the trademark Square FF feel, there is nothing here that hasn't been done a million times elsewhere, better.

It feels, even looks a bit, like Aion 2.0. Maybe I've been spoiled by game like Tera's visual awesomeness but the graphics look dated. No, visuals alone do not a great game make, but it has a decidedly generic Kill x # of y, take this there, talk to Person Zero quest system with very little variety, the opt-in instant-join public group quest mechanic that everyone's using, some cool cutscenes & voice acting, if you're into that sort of thing, & granted, really great music, but that's pretty much it. Yes, I know, the fanboys are lapping it up like fresh cake batter but if you're not wearing those "ZOMGFF11!!!!11!!"-colored glasses, the hype & hoopla, the game is blah.

The worst thing about the game, in my opinion, is the archaic outdated skill system. Where's the customization? I'm used to there being more to it than just 'Hit Level X, get Skill Y, add Attribute point here', especially after games like Aion, Rift, The Secret World, etc, that just let you run wild while tweaking your char. The skill system almost feels like an afterthought, like so much time, effort & money were put into the look & music & style & story that there's no real substance as far as skill customization. Think my highest level char was 21 so maybe that got/gets better later with some more levels but I don't see any incentive to do that.

I think this game is benefiting from 1: no real new AAA competition at the moment & 2: a massive amount of FF fanboys. I love the series, but besides that gorgeous soundtrack & again, that FF "feel", this game doesn't offer me anything that I can't get more of somewhere else. Maybe there are people who are satisfied with this game, but I'm NOT one of them, & neither are the group that I usually play with. I just need more than sparkly RP fluff.

So if you're not a FF fanatic, or your idea of a deep play experience involves more than cute chibi characters, catgirls & cutscenes, you can go ahead & skip this & wait for ArcheAge or Black Desert or go back to whatever you were playing before, unless you're spectacularly bored, there's really not much to see here.

P.S: Feel free to rant & pout & flame all you want but that won't change my opinion, or the fact that while it IS a huge incalculable improvement over its first iteration, & is not, I repeat NOT a terrible game, it's not as special as the Square fans think it is either.

I followed the game, and it sounded so good. I guess I'm one of the players who always thought I was better than I actually was, but GW2 PVP just isn't for me.

I don't like CoD pvp, I don't like BF3 pvp. The only games I like PVP in is WoW and TF2. Maybe I'm not the gamer I thought I was.  This has been an eye opening experience for me. I want dumbed down, I want simple, I want PVP that I can do when I'm so drunk I stumble to the fridge to eat once I'm done.

I'm starting to think that my competitive PVP is past me, like an old soldier who knows the young guys have passed him. Hopefully there will be another MMO like WoW that allows me to have fun with PVP in the future, if not, make the PVE I enjoy, something GW2 does not do.

That's...interesting. What I don't/didn't like about WoW is just that, how everything is dumbed-down to the LCD. I want my PvP to be challenging, where if I'm tired or not concentrating, I'll get totally & completely rocked/owned. Walking that razor's edge gives me my thrill, not autopilot PvP-Lite.

I need decent PvP in the MMO's that I play, & the harder/more active, the better. I suck at FPS's, & don't have the time nowadays for anything that's gear-based. so this is right up my alley. I didn't play GW1 but was looking for my PvP fix after I left Rift & GW2 is filling it. There need to be more sPvP objectives, more maps & a few broken abilities need to be looked at, but the rest of the PvP is quite enjoyable.

Yeah, the GW2 PvE is horrid, blah & meh don't even describe it, especially after coming from TSW, where, IMO, it was the reverse. I was gathering, crafting & doing events to level but I guess I'll just go W-v-W like everyone else since it's apparently ridiculously easy to progress that way. If I overdo it, I can see myself getting burned out like I did in Rift, running BG's 24/7, but I hope they'll add things to make sPvP more interesting before that happens.

What's fun for me isn't fun for you, nothing wrong with that, at least in my opinion. Different strokes for different folks, huh?

Now I have to figure out the new WoW talent trees. It's been a couple of months, and I didn't keep up with any of it because I thought GW2 was going to be my mmo.

I don't recall bashing you, just stating our differences. Agreed, to each his own.

No, gear doesn't automatically=I WINZ!!! but it can give a moderate-to-significant advantage. In Rift, a non-geared PuG against a geared one was usually a massacre. I'm generalizing, I know, but those with more time to devote want a grind, while those like myself, who work 50+ hours/week, have a commute, gf, stuff to do, etc, don't. I'm really goal-oriented too but the 'carrot on a stick' thing only goes so far. Chasing shinies gets boring, but the thrill of battle never does, not for me.

No, it's not their problem that I can't devote 'x' amount of hours/week to getting geared just so I can be competitive in PvP, but I feel like no gear grind evens the odds/levels the playing field. If that guy beats me, he just flat-out beat me, I have NO excuse/s, & vice versa, & I like it that way.

The point is that PvP is supposed to be fun in and of itself. A lot of us remember playing games without gear grinds for PvP, where if you didn't have the best of the best of the best stuff you could still win through skill. And a lot of us liked it. Gear grinds are for raiding, and that's fine, if that's what you want to do. PvP is for fighting other players only because it's more fun. If you need a gear grind for PvP, then a game like GW2 isn't going to be for you. There's nothing wrong with that, it's just not your thing, much like gear grinds for PvP aren't mine.

^This, a gazillion times, this. I enjoy GW2's PvP very very much, SO much so that I forgot that there even was a PvE portion of the game & was L11 for over a week. My friends & I, as was so eloquently stated by others before me, enjoy PvP for its own sake; for the challenge, for the excitement, for the sheer joy of besting other players in combat. Coming from behind & pulling the match out 500-490 with a fail team with Top Kills, ahh, there's nothing like it.

All we, my gaming group, does is PvP, mostly, in the games that we play, if that isn't your cup of green tea, sorry. I personally find gear grinds nauseatingly boring.

To each his own, maybe you just don't "get" it, if you don't feel the PvP love, & that's fine, but the rest of us are having a blast. No gear advantages because Player B has more free time than I do these days, just me, my crappy reflexes, my cobbled-together build, my underappreciated class (Engineer) & my clueless PuG against the World & I love it.

As for goals, I'm aiming for Slayer (2000 kills) right now, I'm halfway there.

See you in the Clock Tower. Bring friends.
