Yes there are. Content Locusts are people who speed through the content like... locusts. Games fault? Sure. Players fault? Sure. But they are out there.

And, since they are, Snadboxes seem like they would be the best answer to the problem. However, since the vast, vast majority of people are not content locusts, themeparks will continue coming. So go ahead and go to your sandboxes. They will always be there. And leave us casual themeparkers alone. PLEASE

I have never heard fo a casual sandbox. So that is what will keep sandboxes fro m ever reaching outside of there rather small communities, the lack of casualness. 

This further demonstrates my belief casual themeparks are the future of mmos. Sandboxes will always be there, but will they ever really match themeparks? No.

   Eve is for a casual player? 

Well personaly never played eve, so cant speak 100% accurate when coming to that game.

Some games cross the line i am sure, eve is known for its hardcore elements like DF and MO. But you also have a few themeparks that do this as well. But more so sandboxes seem more casual than your forced quest line to level up forced down a path, and forced to take aprt in story. Not very casual. In sandbox you have choices, options, can decide what you want to do that minute, hour, or day.

I thought EQ2 was a pretty casual game for a themepark, and SWG was very casual for a sandbox. But more so to myself many sandboxes i do play dont center around pvp and thus are more casual. As to a themepark were i feel like im racing down a set path with no options.

 

 

Swg closed down. Definantly gives back up to the idea sandboxes are the future.

  1. Need to form a group? Huge inconvenience. Probably one of the biggest hinderances of the genre.
  2. Buffing. Stupid mechanic, imo. Needlessly creates dependencies. Long term buffs should be permanent (meaning no long term buffs) and buffs more tactical in general. All removable by offensive abilites ofcourse.

And this is exactly why those games died, gamers with this mentality.  These thoughts although just fine because we all want different things in games are for single player games.  For example Skyrim, no group needed, no dependencies because you can buff yourself, ranking through achievements.  People with this point of view shouldnt play mmo's because they get everything they want through single player games.  MMO's are about grouping and working together otherwise why even play with others?  They are supposed to devote some time and effort.  Not all your time but a good amount or whatever you can fit in.  

Don't waste your time. He either doesn't get it, or doesn't WANT to get it. I am highly doubting he's played MMO's pior to WoW despite he says he has. And I'm not saying that because it's the "popular" rebuttal...but IDK otherwise how you could say what he does without understanding MMORPG's from their birth up until now...or just being selfish and wanting what is conveinient for him no matter how it cripples the genre for others.

It would be like if FPS games were a niche genre, then suddenly had one major FPS release with tons of advertising bringing in droves of new players who have never heard of, or never played FPS games (Let's say they are from the MMORPG genre). Then as time went on these new players started griping how they think the FPS should be slowed down and allow for more player interaction outside of fighting...giving lobby rooms to chat. How certain guns should be nerfed because they are too powerful and take away the feeling of fair competition, how all players should start with a bunch of buffs and achievements shoudl be harder to get, etc, etc.

Do you think these FPS die-hard's who had been playing them for years would stand for such a thing? Having their games changed by those who have little concept of how they began and what seperates them from the MMORPG genre? Think about that when making comments abotu whining. It's a protest of ignorance.

Sure, there are features from newer MMORPG's that can definitely improve the genre and should be added to them and are in many cases. But it's gotten out of control and MMORPG's today have lost their core features that make them a seperate genre from console gaming in the process. I don't see why there can't be comprimise.

The reason games fail is because they have something wrong with them. The majority of mmos released have those features from the so called "golden age" of mmos, and a majority failed. Casual themeparks are the future, gw2 being a prime example and simply the beggining.

I'm finding after roughly 6 months of play that roles are important to mmo's. The reason is that roles make you feel important. I love my necromancer and my mesmer to death.. but there is no need for them in a group. Sure mesmers have time warp, and necros can do some serious condition damage(amoung other talents for each class).. but without roles.. or the need for them.. 2. Roles: we need more clearly defineable roles in order to make building a build to suite that role meaningful. I am not saying we need the trinity, im saying we need a reason to be a control mesmer or a condition necro, a reason to be a *tank-esk* warrior or a support gaurdian.

Sum: We need more endgame options/progression, and we need the class and build you choose to matter more.

Side note: At level 80 all areas of the game should offer roughly the same rewards as the dungeons.. currently only dungeons grant enough money to be worth doing, exploring/de's and other game content dont offer much of a reward to speak of and therefore feel sorta pointless save the experience of seeing it all. I hope Arenanet sees all this as well and makes a move towards adding more complexity to the game and evening things out.. Practicing more of what they preached while making being a level 80 with full exotics worth something other then "im cool look at me".\

I have reccomended in another thread the creation of a huge open pve map that acts like a giant dungeon. Mechanics (such as rockslides, catapults, etc) to take out zergs can be used. The map will basically be a introduction to primordius, an ed. The objective is to keep going farther into the ground, where puzzles, traps, fights, etc commence. Farther and farther you go, the harder it gets. Zergs will contsnatly be formed and destroyed, only the strongest survive. Ancient towns and cities from asuran underground times will be present.

Well gw1 exapnsions were stand alone, so hopefully future expansion packs will be like that.

There was never a Golden Age of MMOs, the reason there wasn't was partially due to the things you listed. Bring in the casuals, you will get the true golden age, no the illusion of one the old hardcore population thinks they experienced.

Not really, I think it makes sense that the biggest games of the year are also the biggest disappointments.  The more people playing them, the more people to be disappointed.

I don't think it is a great policy to dissuade from cheating, because it is an actual endorsment of cheating/exploiting:

- if i cheat and i can make away with that ->  i have profit

- if i cheat and i got caught i will be refunded -> i have no loss

- if i don't cheat at all -> my profit will be the lower possible

Not really - your characters stop existing so you lost time, assuming this is true.

Also I made a killing selling mithril and snowflakes to the cheaters.

Ask botters how much they care that they've lost the characters they levelled in 3 days when after the ban they've got all the money back they had begfore starting, so they can start anew

Name one game that doesn't have bots. You can't because there isn't one.

 

People will always figure a way around any security if they want to bot.

TSW does not have bots.  There is no point to them in TSW.  There are no resource nodes to exploit.  To get cash and gear you have to play and complete missions or actively craft your own gear.  Except for high-end Elite and NIghtmare dungeons, you can manufacture any gear you may need.  Now that I think of it, there are also no gold farmers (that I have seen) and I have heard no one complain of bots.  IN TSW, there is simply nothing for bots to do.

And maybe becuase it isnt worth it as well :P not as many play tsw as say gw2, runescape and wow.

if you get cuaght for the exploit and banned, then you can get refund. Should you buy the game again, then you are left with a lot less than you had prior to the ban.

if you werent banned cause you didnt cheat, then you are now far ahead of those that did.

if you cheated and werent banned, then you simply werent caught this time. No different than a police car picking one out of 5 speeders in the road, the others made it out of luck, however should be careful in the future.

Picture says nothing, just a guy exploiting. He may have got caught, idk. If he did, he has a refund. 

It is a botter when they are hacking into the game to accomplish goals, often times done without the user having to be present. If he is talking, he is just an exploiter. What is your point?
