They didn't change the leveling process, the classes are the same, however they added full Ascended Gear which has given what some might consider a "meaningful" end game goal, but which I consider the anti-thesis of the game and the very essence of the devil himself.

Ascended armor and weapons are obtained almost exclusively through crafting and take a lot of time to acquire so crafting, loot system, and what's generally perceived as "end game" have changed to accommodate this.

They also added a couple systems of time gates whereby you can only retrieve the currency for some of these Ascended item at a fixed rate. Idk if you're into that sort of stuff.

There's a couple living story events that continue around the world and they all have to do with the red salad. As I see it, there's only two ways people see Scarlet, they either hate her, or they hate her reaaallly really badly. So... enjoy that.

Also, Wintersday is coming up, so... there's that too. glhf

If you are not a Guardian, Warrior, Elementalist or Necromancer, your class only provides certain (rare) utility to a WvW team and most teams would rather you run away from a fight than to die and rally the enemy team. For example, mesmers can port, engineers and rangers can destroy cannons/seige on the other side of the wall and theifs are good to kill supply dolyaks and siege whores when you break into a keep. However, in fights, they are asked to stay away and not die.

Engineers would be in the list of powerful/useful classes in group encounters. Seconded to a lesser extent by the ranger.

I agree on Mesmers and Thieves, due to lack of AoE ability, but both the Engineer and Rangers are woefully underutilized classes which, in the right group comp, CAN make or break a fight in relatively even and smaller numbers(15-30).

I'm not commenting on zerg warfare because it's a waste of my time to try and find any semblance of balance or meta strategy in what I can only classify as a clusterfuck.

I find it completely ridiculous when a game has male/female classes, and the female gets to wear 2 pasties and a shoe string and have the exact same stats as a male that's wearing layers of steel, leather and chain. How is that fair.

Because fuck logic! :D

Refer to sig for my stance on this thread.

Skewed poll. I incidentally forgot to vote because I was distracted by the wings and soda option.

Was personally disappointed in the first step of the Tower of Nightmares.

All it has accomplished, so far, is retconning previously established racial traits of the Krait so it can advance their "because Scarlet" storyline. Producing more content around the expectation of player zerging circle jerks in open world. And a heal/cleanse skill that has no inherent benefit because there's no balance, PvE or otherwise, that would make fundamental use of this mechanic outside of the stuff specific to this living story.

All the while, it does nothing to excite me for what's to come. I was hoping this would be the first big thing that would actually indicate where Scarlet is going with these out-of-the-blue alliances. Would it indicate who the main villain is? Does the Elder Dragons have anything to do with Scarlet? What of her seemingly omniscient understanding of the world?... Oh good, at least we know the Pact finally got involved. It just feels like another episode where the heroes foil the dastardly plans of the cut and paste villain and their canonically nonsensical plans.

In WoW, leading 13 successful FTA raids in two weeks.

In GW2, legitimate Kegmaster (I'm one of like five people in and entire player base that enjoyed it enough to play it that much)

In GW2, taking Bay Keep in WvW with ~5 people while there was a full defending presence on the map at the time.

I didn't understand any of this.
I came to this thread to contribute nothing.

Every time you dodge it will heal for 1400, anytime you use a boon it will regen allies who receive boons, always keep ret and protection up when you are in fights. there is more to a guardian then you might think, if you want a more detailed info hit me up in game @ Faulty Krew

If you're talking about Altruistic healing, that only heals yourself.

Bet this guy is upset because he couldn't get passed World 2-1 of Super Adventure Box. Oh well, guess you can still make the argument that smiling clouds and arching rainbows is content aimed at children. Still fun though.

I find it sort of lame and gimmicky to have real world props make shifted to fit in GW2 via Asura. Imo it feels lazy, but the concept itself I don't have an issue with.

Stuff like Kites, Flutes, and hats, for obvious reasons, are more pallet-able. But a boombox made to mimic the real world pop culture equivalent is definitely going to annoy me seeing it in game. :P

I don't think that Sony needs the signal, they would be the one sending it. As for Microsoft, they probably won't notice the signal unless somebody hits them in the head with it.

How is Sony sending it? Enlighten me?

I didn't see this answered but I would assume the reasoning is that Sony has developed and published cross platform online games before even if they weren't truly cross-play (DCUO/Free Realms), coupled with the fact that the only platform other than PC that FFXIV is available on is the Playstation consoles.

A ton of games do #10, I'm pretty sure?... o_O

This is possibly the stupidest conversation I've ever seen on this forum, lol

So much so that only the fictional word stupidest can describe it.

Main character ("Serelisk") needs to always be human Male, same general character aesthetic. Then there's usually a rule 63 of that, ("Seralisk") pronounced the exact same way. Everything after that I don't care.

This hype piece really doesn't mean anything. I find it kind of inappropriate to post it here. The only thing pointless numbers without values associated to them lead to are discussions about how those numbers are pointless (and possibly inflammatory).

Example: I'm personally offended that this heralds 14 activities introduced to the game but only 4 are playable, and only temporarily(activity rotation). Furthermore, they took the only activity that was permanent (Keg Brawl) OUT and made it temporary without acknowledgement or explanation.

@topic, I really want them to focus on Dynamic Events again and stop catering to people who only play content 'efficiently' in order to receive the next shiny asap. If they could create more awesome stories and put them in the open world zones, building a player base from the fun and stories told, I would have a much more enjoyable PvE experience.

But I've had it up to here with the living story filler, and don't even want to participate in this Queen's Jubilee garbage.

Nice box sales, but box sales does not make a good game, look at TOR, 2 million box sales and we all know how that turd turned out..

Out of all those box sales how many people are still playing and buying things out of the store to keep the game, going for long term profit ?   The box sales are a good spike, but what about a year from now ?

Your analogy might make sense if GW2 was also a sub based (turned f2p) gear grinding game with trinity, raids, and quest hubs.  However GW2 is none of those things.  The only thing these two games have in common is that they are both MMO's, just like the only thing apples and oranges have in common is that they are both fruit.

This is actually a very naive way to look at it. It ignores the culture of media & hype that builds around these new games. They do not exist in a vacuum.

Furthermore, Guild Wars 2 may not have the exact same systems in place, but they're designed to cater to a very similar audience. As ArenaNet has shown us, time gating content isn't an exclusive feature to subscription games or raiding content.

So to clarify, he wasn't making an analogy. He was citing an example from a similar circumstance. And he's right in his conclusion, which was that the sales figures for a buy to play MMO mean nothing. He didn't say it was necessarily negative, but that you're probably foolish for thinking that 3 million sales translates into concurrent or returning users. The actual number is likely far lower.

So then don't direct the camera into your living area. Solid color tape is very inexpensive, as is just turning it the other direction.

Furthermore, no one would be watching. Assuming this ships more than a million units (which is a hilariously low number for consoles), that's 1 million kinects also... No agency, no matter who you are, can possibly be watching that many people's living rooms. And if you actually did some research, you would find that they're more than likely not. Instead, basic information would be logged and able to be brought up should they inquire about a particular individual.

And even then, Microsoft has outright denied that any of this happens through their Kinect system. You're really grasping at straws if you're using this to determine why someone shouldn't purchase the new Xbox.

 /facepalm

I can't believe anyone is impacted at all by the possibility of kinect spying on you. Do any of you people use modern smart phones? Seriously, if you were going to be up in arms about something, that ship has sailed.

I really hate to come here and defend Guild Wars 2 after it has me so disenchanted for so many reasons recently, but the social issue in this game is not one of those problems.

Compared to almost every other theme park MMO-RPG, including World of Warcraft and its army of clones, GW2 is the pinnacle of social game play. While it does not actively force you to group, it does not discourage you from grouping either. Many other games make basic PvE a competitive affair where you're fighting against other players from the get-go and it gets bad enough that you start to resent seeing other players in the open world questing experience. This would make sense if it was a FFA/Faction + full loot open world PvP game, but this happens in many MMO's where, according to the game, those people who are accidentally causing your grief, are on the same side.

Furthermore, what was once a bold promise and still a mildly successful endeavor, open world dynamic events some times have very blatant and very fun scaling mechanics which make it a joy to see other players join the fight. This has its fair share of inconsistency, but it can't be said to not exist.

Also, there's a lot of things that can be enjoyed socially in this game, and which require social interaction to complete. For the majority of my experience, World vs World has filled this need for me. Sure, it doesn't require voip and a guild to be a roamer or faceless DPS in a sea of uncoordinated players. And if you choose to play that way, you can still have a very rewarding social experience from the ad-hoc battles you may get into with players around you. But make no mistake, there's the very real opportunity for fun and performance that comes from having stronger connections with the people you play with. And that is the common goal that brought those players together.

In PvE, there's still a ton of things that, should you choose to tackle it, requires you to have someone with you to complete it. From champion fights to open world mini-dungeons. From simple guild treks to giant guild puzzles, story dungeon to high difficulty Fractals. There's tons of goals to strive for that adequately align you with people who also wish to complete these. If you choose not to make the best of this social opportunity, or if those players happen to be rude or asshats for no reason, then that's unfortunate, but it's not a device of the game.

There's more than just mentioned above, but the point is that this game does more than most to encourage a social experience while not forcing it for those people who don't want to rely on or be forced to adhere to a required social connection just to play the game at all.

What it sounds like from most of the comments on this thread, and what has likely caused so many "it's your own fault" responses, is that people have just ended up in these circumstances of having not seen or heard other players talking, or have not had the same experience they supposedly had in another game, and instead of making a case for why this did or did not happen, have decided to blame some element of the game for it. Whether this does or doesn't hold up is usually going to be based on almost 100% anecdotal experience, but there's people who will tell you that they have not suffered from the same issues, and all of us aren't ArenaNet white knight fanboys willing to suspend logic and reasoning to defend their honor like some on the official forums actually are. It's because we have had a social experience and have made those "real friends" people keep alluding to.
