Is it fair that Guild Wars is listed and ranked 3 times?
The Pub at MMORPG.COM « General Discussion 11/09/06 5:52:03 PM
It is 1 online world, with the basic game and 2 expansions. If we would say for example that you dont have to buy WoW to play Burning Crusade, would you consider this 2 different games then? I think not ... Edit : Another question to think about : What if SOE repackages their EQ into "EQ classic + Expansions X" and does this 12 times, 1 for each expansion. Then they would have 12 standalone games? Then they would have to be listed and rated 12 times here? Edit : And technically each Guild Wars game DOES need the same base game. The only difference is that in this case the base game and expansions are integrated as 1. |

I would consider this to be fair, if there would not be a top 7 on the frontpage of the site... But now GW removes some games from this list that deserve to be there. Basically Guild Wars is 1 online world, and also percieved this way by everyone, so again, why is this rated seperatly ...? I can understand mmorpg.com made a mistake here, but now it is time to rectify this mistake.

If they let you play The Burning Crusade without buying a copy of WoW it is a seperate game? Cause that is essentially what is being said here ... I just cant understand how you can even think it is fair the way Guild Wars gets promoted here on this site. Your comparison is flawed. All 3 chapters are played on the same servers, based on the same gamedesign, just have different stories. They are more like 3 chapters from lord of the rings, 3 different chapters yes, but still considered 1 book. It is the same game rated 3 times, there is no other way to look at it. p.s. I liked this site for so long, cant give it up so easely. |

WoW hits new milestone - 7.5 Million Users
The Pub at MMORPG.COM « General Discussion 11/09/06 5:28:05 PM
Actually its essential;ly impossible as new skills are meant to be added in such a way that it would be impossible to ever max out. lhmm some people think the only way to reach the end game is to max your char :p the endgame in eve does not require you to max all the skills. |

1 difference, once you are at the DAoC endgame, you dont HAVE to play everyday, while in WoW you DO have to play everyday, cause otherwise your guild will kick you or your guild wont progress further in the instance. Greetings, Cyberwiz |

WoW is one of the most addictive and time consuming games on the market. Honestly throw Eve Online, SWG, DAoC, Ultima Online together and you are still not at the same level of a time sink. You obviously never done high end instancing, the end game in WoW, what this game is actually all about. You realise many many guilds have minimum standards for how much you have to play to be allowed to stay in the guild? omg really, WoW is many things ( including alot of good things ) but most certainly NOT a casual game. |

don't blame mmorpg.com for listing it the way it appears now and guild wars being capable of creating stand-alone games. I blame mmorpg.com for listing and allowing to rank the same game 3 times while the competition does not have this advantage. I guess I will have to find a new site for mmorpg news and game listings cause this one stinks. Bye

Guildwars Rank Number 1.....2 3 errrr
Site Suggestions « General Discussion 11/09/06 10:09:35 AM
I still dont have this out of my system ... Copy/Pasted from the Guildwars site : Is Guild Wars Factions an expansion pack or a stand-alone game? Guild Wars Factions is a stand-alone product. Those who own Guild Wars are not required to purchase Guild Wars Factions in order to continue playing on their game account, and those who purchase Guild Wars Factions may play without purchasing Guild Wars. However, there is a strong level of interconnection between the two games that makes having them both an exceptional experience. Okay, so at 1st sight, you may have a point in listing these individually ... Is there separate content in each game, Guild Wars and Guild Wars Factions? Yes. It is possible for a player to enjoy the contents of either game without purchasing the other. Players who have both games may have their characters travel back and forth at will between the continents of Tyria and Cantha. And naturally, there is content that spans the two games that makes having both campaigns very appealing. Hmm sounds more and more like the same game to me ... When I take my existing characters to the new areas of the world, do they keep their items, their levels, etc.? If you purchase Factions, you will be able to travel to the land of Cantha, with your Ascended characters from Guild Wars (original Prophecies campaign). Inventory items, skills, and other possessions and attainments from Prophecies remain yours and remain useable within Guild Wars Factions. So I can take all my stuff and use it in the "other" game? Sounds like the same game to me. It has the same programming code base. Everyone plays on the same servers.
This is basically 1 game, divided in 3 pieces. If you buy all 3 pieces you have the full game, but it is possible to only play 1/3 of the game if you like. So why should this game be allowed to get rated 3 times? While other games that have ALOT more content and expansions are only rated once? I am sorry that I do not understand the logic and fairness of this. These stand alone expansions are just expansions like any other expansion and should be treated like this.

I still cant believe this and how mmorpg.com can think this does not make them look stupid. How do you think other game producers feel about this? Think about this when you try to get another interview with a dev ... |
|
It is not a mmorpg, but okay we will live with it being listed here ... But I mean WTF are you guys smoking listing this game 3 times? It are expansions, stand alone or not, and this also shows again that Guild Wars isnt a MMORPG, cause something like this isnt really doable in a true MMORPG. So once Guild Wars has 7 expansions no other games will be listed in the top 7? This is totally wrong, and makes MMORPG.com looks really silly. |

Will WAR use the same "practices" as BF2142?
General Discussion « WAR (Warhammer Online) 11/04/06 5:03:29 PM
Geez, ingame ads and still have to pay for the game ... Honestly, I dislike EA even more then I already did. It is worse then Microsoft. There should be an easy to notice warning on the box that it contains ads, and should be priced less then a regular boxed game.

The Official "We're Angry at SOE" thread
SWG Veteran Refuge « Star Wars Galaxies 9/19/06 3:54:07 AM
I loved this game, it had so much going for it ... Player build cities, politics, exploration, star wars feel ... They just missed their launch, they didnt polish the game ... Missions were dull, there was no way to get around fast. After a while it became better ( intro of vehicles and alot of bugfixing ), but still the content was lacking. Altho players did have alot of tools to create their own content. They made many design mistakes from the start. Like for example not many mmorpg players want to stick with crafting proffesions only ... Crafting and Combat should never be mutually exclusive ! A player should be able to experience both with the same character. Furthermore the decision to allow only 1 character per server made this problem even worse. People dont wat to change servers, they want to build communities ! And what about letting people to build ANYWHERE??? how stupid can you be as a dev? You obviously should not allow people to build near POI's ... These things were repairable, but SOE made it worse, they removed the nice skill system they had, /cry :( I only hope that one day, I will be able to play an SWG mmorpg again, cause I did see the potential, it just never came thru. And I love Star Wars. Greetings, CyberGhost. |

I just think it is just strange to see a top 7 on the frontpage. I'd like to see a top 10 instead ( for both ratings and hypes ) Probably just me ... |

I liked this game when I played it, the only problem I had with it was that you couldnt develop your character deep enough. Also some sort of housing ( appartments ) was missing ( they did advertise appartments before launch ). Anyway, it was a good game, just not deep enough, not enough RPG elements imho.
