Star Citizen: Chris Roberts Interview Coming - Give us your questions!
News & Features Discussion « General Discussion 12/06/12 8:14:41 PM
Has there been any work or direction established yet regarding squadron/guild support systems? To put it in a traditional mmo sense, systems such as guild banks (common flight hanger?), buffs/rewards for squadrons who have as a guild completed a certain task, etc?

What 3 games did you waste money on in 2012?
General Gaming « General Discussion 11/28/12 4:11:32 PM
Eve - Full bore open pvp with no segregation between new players and long term players is not a positive formula that supports the potential success of a new player GW2 - Rouge and lipstick on a pig. All available abilities are learned in the first couple hours of play, after that it's a gear grind, and not a very interesting one at that D3 - I'm sorry, i can't put together any rational comments currently that adequately describes how poor this one is... All i can say is, if you've experienced it yourself, you'll know how i feel.

Revival of the space sim genre - tougher times for EvE incoming?
Jita (General) « EVE Online 11/23/12 12:12:52 PM
Originally posted by Maelwydd I agree with what Maelwydd said regarding the loyalty of the current Eve following - the folks there have a lot of time invested and are unlikely to leave Eve for a new title. That being said, i do however believe that some of the current subscribers may consider doing Eve "and" another new title simultaneously. When i was dabbling in Eve, i typically noticed anywhere from 25,000 to 45,000 people listed as on line in the game. I honestly don't know how this relates to actual number of dedicated subscribers, but i find the number interesting in light of the number of people who, for example, have already pledged to the Star Citizen development - a little over 92,000 at last count. This pledge number doesnt reflect the number of people who have not been aware of the crowdfunding for the title but would be interested in a space sim type game, nor the people that may have been aware of the crowdfunding but have chosen to adopt an approach of waiting for the game to be released and then buy the gold version. Considering these other currently "non-committed" people, it seems reasonable to expect that the number of people potentially interested in the PC based space sim genre easily numbers in the multiple hundreds of thousands, which is interesting... there would certainly appear to be a large number of people who in general terms "should" be interested in Eve, but for whatever reason have chosen to not actively participate in Eve currently. With the future release of multiple space sim genre titles and what appears to be an uncommitted complement of fans of the genre waiting for an alternative to Eve, i would think that the Eve developers would recognize their game does not for whatever reason appeal to these uncommitted fans and if they do not adapt to try to address this, then their challenge in attracting new business will become much greater when the new alternatives become available. Tougher times coming for Eve? I think so. insurmountable challenges for Eve given the current fan base dedication? I wouldnt think so. Eve's future success or lack thereof i dont think lies so much in what Eve's competition does or doesnt do (though it will be an influence of course), but rather lies in how Eve responds. The dinosaurs died out, not because they weren't strong, but rather because they couldn't adapt. It will be interesting to see how the Eve-asaurus Rex fares.... |

Star Citizen: Approaching the $4M Mark
News & Features Discussion « General Discussion 11/19/12 1:46:09 PM
Originally posted by darker70 Well said! I hope this is a sign to those in positions of influence in the industry that the homogenized schlock that the mmo development community has been coming out with in recent years need not be the norm. Players WILL financially support a title, and with big numbers (many many pledgers to SC are in the multiple hundreds of dollars) when the game provides a level of quality commensurate with the cost.

Star Citizen: Approaching the $4M Mark
News & Features Discussion « General Discussion 11/17/12 9:20:25 AM
What also is notable is how the community that has supported the game is embracing the excitement surrounding the fundraising successes. I have been gaming for many years and have seen communities both good and bad in many mmo's, but i can honestly say i've never seen the level of camaraderie, excitement and mutual support shown by people in chat at the RSI site or on the forums there. This kind of positive and mature social interaction by the game's supporters certainly bodes very well indeed for when the game releases in the future.

Star Citizen crowdfunding tops 4.0 million dollar mark
General Discussion « Star Citizen 11/16/12 9:15:22 PM
8 mill ! lol, yeah not holding my breath on that one... the goals they've laid out to unlock at 4.5 are cool enough though. IMO, if they can do 4.5 before the end of funding, bonus for the players :)

Star Citizen crowdfunding tops 4.0 million dollar mark
General Discussion « Star Citizen 11/16/12 9:00:49 PM
Over 2 days still left in the crowdfunding, and it's just topped 4.0 million dollars raised... twice the original "base" goal. Whether you call it an mmo or not, there's no denying how strong the community support of this one is already.

The Secret War requests FULL access to your Facebook information!
General Discussion « The Secret World 8/29/11 9:06:07 PM
I've never been a proponent of allowing wide open access to FB info, and have elected to not participate in the secret war facebook activities as a result. That being said, the OP needs clarification - the secret war is NOT required to participate in the beta of the Secret World. Funcom clearly states this. I have signed up for the beta, but will not sign up for the Secret War. FYI. |

Talked with Gamestop in Edmonton today and was advised the codes were not in - next week "sometime" was the response... I am brimming over with confidence.... ^ ^ |

I completely agree. The high-heel armor boots that the female avatars wear are a good example of "stretching it to the limit". Obviously the developers are not going for realism mind you, and im sure the avatars and armor style that is being used will appeal to a "younger" crowd, especially those that are fans of the whole pokemon/asian art style. The game has some good features, but the ridiculous "armor", weapons and the oh so annoying squeaky korean teenage girl voices used whenever a female avatar casts a spell, swings a sword, etc arent among them. Despite these factors, the game will probably be pretty successful, as im sure there is a strong contingent of players who will be satisfied with an mmo that is "pretty", lets them fly around, and doesnt tax the ol' gray matter overly much in the playing of it, if you know what i mean.... Just my opinion. |

Darktide sends Darkfall to its death so hard that even the lifestone flinches!
General Discussion « Darkfall 12/15/08 8:18:21 AM
I never post to gaming forums, either pro or con, for the simple reason that each players opinion of a game is just that... their opinion, and thereby beyond dispute. I see little value in trying to convince other players to agree with "my" opinion, because frankly i really dont care if they agree with me or not... it wont influence whether i enjoy a game or not. Why i am posting this rare response is merely to acknowledge AnsgarIsen's post in this thread... it is, without a doubt, the most intelligent response i have ever seen in these forums - fair, insightful, and non-confrontational. Pity that more could not learn from his example.... well done Ans!! I'm going back to the game im playing now... i'd rather play a game that i enjoy than listen to other people argue about games they aren't playing .... |
