And the hits just keep coming. It's almost as if EA is truly experimenting with doing the worst decision on every possible move in this game.
Can anyone truly think that buying character level 50 gear is not next ?
Pure comedy gold is what the SWTOR saga has been.

I never thought anything could beat the vanguard mcquaid meltdown crying on FoH - parking lot firing drama.

EA proved me wrong.

Just when you think EA/Bio can be no more moronic , that interview posted a few back and the quote from the official post on the forums is pure comedy gold.

SWTOR continues to be a 101 course in what not to do in mmorpg development and management.

Bioware has gone from Baldur's Gate days to being the joke of the mmorpg world.

Bit sad , while still amusing to watch the comedic ineptness reach new heights also.

And at the same time TSW in one swoop shows the opposite of how to do a no sub model that makes EA look even more moronic.

Just keeps getting better.

New project .. maybe it's a reference to the "Super Secret Space Project" freeroam space for SWTOR?

EA doing MMORPG's has been rather disasterous, and they are probably wondering how to recoup lost time and money from SWTOR rather than trying to dig another hole somewhere else.

EA just lacks the skill, motivation, and innovation to be successful as anything more than a hype publishing company.  /shrug

new project =/= new game

KoToR, Sims (which is one of the largest selling games of all time), Lost count of all of there sports games.

Yes I agree EA has no skills in game making, Love post like this show just how stupid people are!

Nothing has been talked about on this project and its getting burnt down before it starts, these forums are now just people that want to QQ and QQ more, kind of sad that this site has come to this.

EA has no track record of anything positive in mmorpg game making. Period.

They have only shown how they can take good studios and IP's and make them a horrific mmorpg experience with disappointing sales.

I don't hack, yet I'm rocking a 4:1 KDR in total, and rising, even started exclusively as lib pilot which made my KDR low, but after a long session, my stats are usually around 200-250 Kills / 30-40 death.

If 75% of all players were hackers (As mentioned by OP) there would be no way I could have done what I've done.

Now, I'm not saying this specifically to anyone in here, but sometimes you just got to look at your own play and think "How could I have done this or that better", and sometimes it's just pure bad luck..

It usually comes down to skill, however it's always easier to blame it on hacks. (We saw the same thing in APB, there were hackers, no doubt about it, but it was far from as rampant as people made it out to be)

Here's a few tips to get kills without getting killed yourself, this might be the boring way to do things, but it helps you get xp / certs faster.

  • It's always better to be on the offense. (Offense usually have the upper hand ie. #'s, and they will swarm/camp the spawn room, for easy kills)
  • If in defense, and you're getting camped, re-deploy.
  • If you see an overwhelming force moving towards your base/outpost, re-deploy.
  • If you want to re-deploy, but aren't safe to do so, retreat.
  • Always counter your enemies, don't get too attached to one role, switch when you need to.
  • Check your map, the map will give you a lot of useful information, go to zones where your faction is attacking and outnumbering the enemy factions.
The things listed are the ones I go by, and I do just fine, I don't find myself getting owned repeatedly by hackers, but then again, I usually drive or fly vehicles as an Engi, or play Heavy in situations where have to be infantry.
I like this game a lot, I won't be chased off by cheaters.. But I do hope that SOE will be monitoring and banning those fools.
And if not, then they'll probably leave by themeselves when they get bored, I can't imagine a software that plays a game for you, can be fun for very long.

That's the problem , you are thinking as a rationonal adult.

Now change it to a lot of 12-15 year olds , off for the holidays for weeks , with broadband and an opportunity to cause grief ? It's unescabable. Considering the free accounts , unlimited free emails and with proxies and ip vpn ease of use , a bored group of 12 year olds with broadband can cause more grief than SOE can stay ahead of , and to them , it will be "fun".

Zero cost to setup another account and start immediately cheating again.

And if anyone thinks any sort of IP restrictions actually stop someone with half a clue from getting right back in I'd suggest you read up a little on how easy it is to get around IP bans.

I just don't see how SOE can stay ahead of any folks who want to cheat in PS2 due to the fact there is zero cost to anyone to continaully try and cheat and hack as much as they want.

They , a year out now , still cannot make Illum function correctly.

A major feature , they advertised prelaunch , they had to abandon and basically "turn off" as they didn't know how to fix it , is still not working and the current ETA is Feb March , more than a year after launch.

So ,why , WHY , would anyone not question their ability to even remotely pull something like this off when they couldnt even make a single large PVP zone even function correctly ?

They've cut back staff , not added since launch.

This space carrot will be rotten and a joke if it even ever comes to be.

They can't fix it.

Wait , did someone mention SWTOR and Q/A in the same sentence ?

CEO says I'm cutting pay by 50% across the board.

Employees scream and threaten.

CEO says I'm not cutting pay by 50% across the board.

Employees cheer saying great CEO , he listens to us.

This isn't the way it happens.

Seriously folks , patting EA/Bioware on the back for "listening" and changing their stance on an obviously moronic decision such as the quickbard limitation shows just how low of an expectation some of you have or what you will put up with.

Bioware made a moronic decision , somewhat reversed it , and it's "proof they are listening".

No wonder we get the crap that that is sold today , the average consumer doesn't mind taking it up the ass.

Dear god if you're going to white knight everything about SWTOR do you have to LOL ?

Nice to see it , and this is one of the reason after seeing just how shallow a game SWTOR was , specifically the linearity of planet flowchart gameplay to the fact they couldn't even make Illum work at all , that I hoped as did many others SWTOR would fail.

And it has failed in EA's eyes , investors and financials etc. Now I'm hoping it fails in its FTP attempt after the initial rush and holidays are over.

The harder SWTOR fails the more it makes sure no publisher will spend 200-300 million on a mmorpg and pay more attention to voice acting cut scenes than making a virtual world for actual gameplay.

Whether it broke even or made a bit of money , EA expected , and Bioware SAID it would compete with WoW for sub numbers.

So yes , it has failed for the amount of money it was predicted to make them.

Maybe the next wave of mmorpg's will have day/night cycles , weather , etc. Living breathing worlds that can be pseduo amusement park/sandbox style with much more openness. I don't mind a hybrid.

SWTOR was going to an amusement park and being told which rides in which order you had to ride.

Again , EQ had day/night cycles and could make it rain and snow in 98.

SWTOR had voices for its $$$.

Good to see any press pointing out why EA/Bioware didn't get it.

Skipping the sidetracks, back to the original topic: What is about EVE that keeps people playing?

6th year going, still haven't even tested everything, or perfected more than two of the paths I've tested.

This game is about you deciding what to become, and it will always reward you for sticking with your decission. No other game has yet rewarded me for sticking to my decission so that it has changed my approach to real life, and sticking to decissions in there too.

If there was a path to choose, I couldn't find it within 2 weeks.  Did missions, got a 5 million ship, got bored in high sec.  Went to low sec, got ganked by a very powerful ship.  Full EVE experience from the perspective of most people who don't wish to invest a lot of time mining and just want to fly a ship and have some fun I'd imagine.

Why are people playing?  Don't know, don't care.  I notice the concurrency goes down during US primetime, and it's common to multibox in this game, those two things tell me all I really need to know.  There's also a lot of mining bots.

And that's the beauty of EVE. It filters out the solo players and the instant gratification crowd. Sorry you didn't like it, there's GW2, WoW, and Rift for you... EVE is all about playing with others. You need to join a corp to fully experience the game (or at least one tiny aspect of the game, depending on what type of corp it is). You do NOT need to invest any time mining to make enough ISK for pvp. I do missions, salvaging, and station trading to earn my billions. Even with the multiboxers, I am willing to bet EVE still has more individual concurrent players on any given day than even the newest of themepark games. Themeparks have a lot of concurrent users during their first week, before everyone figures out how boring and pointless the game is.

If you actually think EVE has more concurrent players online than GW2 or WoW then I have no idea what world you live in.

WoW is ,well  , WoW , and GW2 has tons of EU and NA servers that still sit at full often during prime time.

EVE is good for what it is , but trying to say it has more online concurrent players than any other mmorpg is just ridiculous.

I love the idea of DF:UW.

My concern is the studio is silent and dodgy at best ,and their track record gives me no reason to believe they are any better than they were.

I loved EQ up till PoP , they started runining it at PoP and further.

Really enjoyed DAOC up to one of the expansions (cant remember which ) that drastically changed it also.

Like Vanilla WoW , with Tarren Mill battles with no DK points , no shiny rewards for killing the enemy and AV lasted for hours and people fought the entire time with a desire to win and not worry about points for themselves. Blizzard ruined , ruined WoW and specifically AV which was my favorite BG.

Etc ,

I still enjoy mmorpg's just as much at 40 as I did in my 20's , it's just that development studios ruined the ones I liked and seem to be making crap ones for the lowest common denominator nowadays.

It's as if every restaurant I normally go to has decided to become McDonalds.

What I find interesting is how many are saying AoC , (which I'm not disagreeing with , I'd rank it in top 3 for sure) , and on the other end , if you asked the opposite , which modern mmorpg has the worst combat animations , you'd likely see TSW ranked as one of the worst (many , many reviewers and players noted this and even Funcom prelaunch said they knew they needed work).

So same company has one game with some of best regarded , and their next major game regarded as some of the worst.

Yeah not a single worth while question, like what have you learned from star wars the old republic and other recent triple a launches that havent done as well as expected and what will you try to improve on.

Or you know, anything relating to the actual fucking gameplay. I guess if i wanted to read about game lore, future faction grind and world size i could come read this artcle and get giddy.

Here is how i read that interview:

MMORPG: So youre know upcomming elder scrolls title, is it going to be awesome?

TESO: Of course its going to be awesome!

MMORPG: How awesome is it going to be?

TESO: *extends arms* Its going to be THIIS Awesome!!

MMORPG: There you have it folks, from the creators mouth to your ears, the game is going to be that awesome!

It was absurd.

I've noticed this over the past year that most Q/A interviews here go like that.

Do they ever ask "tough" questions with direct follow-ups ? It just seems mmo devs have become almost on par with politicians for spewing drivel and never actually saying anything direct and sites let them get away with it.

Funcom's problem isn't usually their actual game or ideas , it's their implementation of it.

They ruined any chances of AO being the hit it should have been with what many rank as the worst launch of an mmorpg.

Which is a shame because AO had great ideas and gameplay , but had people immediately leave the week of launch , and the bad press they got for that horrific launch doomed it to small numbers forever.

And  TSW should have been worked on another 6-9 months , gotten more features in at launch , better customer service , don't launch an mmorpg where chat breaks for a month after launch etc.

They could have launched AFTER GW2 had a few months or more of folks playing and people ready to look at something else  , AFTER the WoW expansion and with no major mmorpg launch on the horizon at all.

I honestly think they could have done much better but for whatever reason , launching not ready , a couple months before two mammoth mmorpg's were coming out in new and expansion form , it's another Funcom fiasco.

before you go and create an account, take some time and look at the F2P vs Prefered/Sub customers options. THIS IS NOT A F2P. no bank, no trading (2 slots lol), limited inventory, more grind to lvlup, you get your mounts 5-10lvls later, you CANT HAVE MORE THAN 200k! Which means, you cant buy the high lvl mounts. You cant equip epic items and so on.

To sum it up: you will be able to play the story mode, but only of the available races and classes, not all are free.

fuck those guys srsly

And you expect what for free? The entire game? All the mounts and money you can have? no restrictions what so ever?

They need to get subs and cash shop money to survive just like Lotro AOC and EQ2 etc. But all I hear is people slamming games with subs and then slamming f2p for having parts you need to pay for.

It is a business not a charity for freeloading gamers.

Locking races and classes of certain ones makes sense. They need people to pay for something.

Locking toolbars and UI elements ? Moronic.

So +magic find gear/mods is the new elite gear I take it ? :P
