Remember the thread. "Only in Wushu - The Most Epic MMORPG Night Ever."?

"Tell me another game, where you can go from crafting darts to put in your shop, to 4 Votes shy of Faction Leader.

That's all I was doing, making darts in preparation for the week ahead. My guild learder asked if any Tangmen wanted to join the School Meeting. School meeting is a tournament in whcih Deacons, Elders, and the School Headmaster are chosen. 3 rounds, then a Vote."

3 Weeks later I am now Tangmen Head Master. The leader of Tangmen.

Over the past 3 weeks, a political plan was executed. Starting with the jailing, before school war of the person who beat me in my original thread. 3 weeks of increasing my visibility in school chat buy helping new Tangmen. Giving out XP pills, teaching little Tangs how to rob carts so that they could earn their own XP pills, and  giving darts to the young ones who couldn't afford them.

I fought my way through the School Tournament the first time. Top 3 kills the first round. Last three standing the second round, Last 3 standing in the Elder. Killing the last Elder, earning the chance to be voted on.

This time I only needed to fight in the 3rd round. There was no need for me to take the risk until then. At that point I was attacked by my friend, and big Sister, Empress Wu. Was this treachery? Did we get our signals crossed? I choose to believe it was a lack of communication. I fended her off for nearly 2 minutes. Three others died.  Let the final round begin.

In an incredible move Empress Wu, dueled the 3rd Elder and killed him. This left us two standing. This is where we were the first week I had entered. Unlike the first time, Wu and I did not fight. Wu left the arena, I was declared the Victor. Let the voting begin.

The Head Master Shinon, at the time, was a good player, and a good person. A Tangmen who has mastered the Royal Guard Claw, hidden weapon technique. I've seen her do amazing things. Even though we are from rival guilds, I consider her a friend.

As the night went on, and the votes started coming in, I could tell early on it was going to be very close. Shinon made sure she stayed visible in school chat, answering questions, and even organizing team cultivation practice. Her shiny title of "Master" was getting her votes every time she spoke. This was my original idea, unfortunately I no longer had my shiny Deacon title (it was removed during the voting process), I couldn't compete with her in the visibility race. I was down 9 votes with 20 minutes to go.

My luck changed. Someone in school chat asked what are school treasures. Quickly Shinon answered, then said there are no more school treasure to take. There was my opening, a difference between our leadership philosophy. I said "There are treasures to take. Tangmen is strong." Due to Shinon's guild alliances, which were in control of ally schools, she could not give Tangmen a chance to fight for more treasure. A vote for Shinon was a vote for no war.

I seized the opportunity. A vote for me was a vote for Tangmen strength! A vote for Tangmen to choose our aliiles, not be chosen by guild alliances. I hammered that message for the next 20 minutes. I surged. I won the vote by 16.

I am now Tangmen Head Master. Will I be able to give Tangmen war, and victory? I will have to forge a new alliance. Stay tuned. This weekend should be fun!

Congrats BC, sounds like you played your hand well. There is nothing like a successful political campaign in a game. I remember the elation after staying awake until 6am to ensure I got the final council vote needed to get my independent pirate character voted in as president.

Enjoy your short time in the sun, make sure you don't look back thinking "I wish I hadn't let them persuade me not to do that". Triumph or Disaster, the important thing is to be remembered for the scale of your ambition.

It is all fault from this retarded big corporations like goons and it makes me angry. I still love this game but it simply force you to join some of big  retarded corporations and i don't want to be slave of the game.

So, fly frigates instead.

You used to be goon bro ? The force seems to be strong in you.

No, I am still waiting for them to pay me the membership fee before I join.

Originally posted by asdar The reason I don't play Eve is because I want a real person to play and not a ship. I think it can be done or at least something close can be done. I'm not saying that anything in your list wasn't core, I'm saying that they can be adapted to a land based game. Universal banks are easy, so is no destruction and NPC crafted gear. They would slip right into a land based game without a hiccup.
I never said EVE couldn't be made into a high fantasy setting, as that wasn't your argument.
  • "If you want to see what translating it would be like start with Darkfall and change to tab targetting, then the controls and UI automatically can follow and be just like the other mainstream games but the core would be like Eve" "It's possible to translate Eve to high fantasy, just take Darkfall and tweak it a bit."
Those were your statements. One would have to make Darkfall nothing at all like Darkfall in order to create a land-based version of EVE. It' isn't a matter of just changing targeting and controls, because the core of EVE Online is as much an economic sim as it is a combat sim. Also, that you think changes such as regional markets, destruction on death and the removal of NPC crafted equipment is something you can just 'slip right in' is further reinforcement that you really don't get how important those things are to the core gameplay of EVE.

I'll just disagree with you then and leave it at that. No hard feelings on this end. I do think you could leave 90% of Darkfall and make it very similar to Eve, but land based. I'd like Darkfall to have regional supply and be more of a sim, and I don't think it would ruin the game or even change the underlying feel of the game for most players. It would just add another good element to it.

You are completely wrong and Loktofeit is correct about this.

At the time being Camelot Unchained isn't even a proof of concept. I look forward to how it will develope in the future. Hopefully it won't turn out like the Kickstarted games that ignored some of their promises.

They need to start focusing more on PvE content, and having a PvE only server. The number of PvP players is severely limited and I don't think they have enough to support the weight of CU. They better get this figured out or there won't be a game at all! We need to make sure that MJ knows this is what needs to be done.

And maybe change the setting to space?

And toss away the sub model and make it F2P?

Or even go retro text based, NE, N, N, Gank Gank Gank

The word "fun" keeps coming up in discussions on this site, often without any clear definition but used in a way that indicates that the poster's own definition of the word is universal.

It seems to me it's mostly avid themepark and MOBA fans - advocates of action-based gameplay - who use the F-word when they try to promote lobby-based, linear co-op games, as opposed to virtual worlds and sandbox MMOs.

In these posters' opinion, the former games offer more fast "fun" than the latter, but the definition of the word "fun" always seems to be taken for granted. It's almost like there's this universal law saying that combat-related gameplay is always more "fun" than community building, exploration, character development and metagames, and that anything not related to combat is tedious, boring, and a waste of time.

This is really interesting, because all games are essentially a waste of time, are they not? They are all played as an escape from real life. But they offer different escape routes, and what's to say that only one of these escape route are to be considered "fun" and valuable? Does the fact that the mass market caters to short attention spans and unceasing blood lust mean that players who prefer something else than constant combat and the "epic heroism in an over-the-top fantasy world" theme are objectively wrong and should alter their tastes?

It's generally used by posters who do not really like mmorpgs and would be better off in one of the other mmo genres.

Face it OP, EvE is not for the likes of you, enjoy WoT

All games that don't have a cash shop you can always buy from a third party who will sell you gold or gear.

Tell us your username and we can have your account deleted.

You can get money in RL by robbing a pensioner instead of working, it's quicker and easier but against the rules.

Power leveling is in worst case against the eula, not against the law.

robbing a pensioner is against the law.

If you can't make the difference maybe you spend to much time in games.

The EULA is the law of the game world, the Law is the law of the country where you live. The analogy stands as is.

Seems to me that the attitude is:

P2W is someone else buying advantage with RL cash.

non-P2W is me buying advantage with RL cash

Ship just got real.

LMAO

Sounds like someone is feeling awkward about getting aroused by the pixels and overcompensating.

If I log into TOR I can see server load on the server screen and when I play I can /who for all players playing, it takes a bit more effort but I last did it (yes I'm sad) when i recently resubbed to TOR after a 8 month absence. Server, The Progenitor RP server EU,  server load Heavy, the player concurrent logins on server, 4598, both factions counted Sunday evening peak time. Every Planet has how many players are on the planet in the top left corner with friends and guildies online, you can search OP's, FP's, WZ's, class, race etc.. can you do that in EvE? The info is there for all to see if you want to, so do you want to its free?

NEXT!

err .. yes. You do know how many servers and instances Eve has yes? CCP also produce regular figures for "subs" - and like Blizzard they count an active monthly game card as a sub.

EA brings comments about its numbers upon itself. As tiefighter25 mentioned last February EA announced in their quarterly report that SWTOR had 1.7M subscribers but in March revealed that "just about half of those" were in their free month. Now counted people in their free month is fine but that wasn't how EA pitched the number. Then last summer they gave all subscribers a free month - which almost certainly resulted in their 1M to 500k count. They had padded the number but were legally obligated not to mislead investors - which they would have done if they had suggested that the game back then still had 1M.

And now at the end of March Bioware said they had 2M new F2P accounts and yet this week they only have 1.7M. Can they not count?

I have suggested a simple explanation for the difference; the alternative is that Bioware are in the business of being very creative ... with their numbers.

The thing about Eve only having 1 server kind of takes the guesswork out of it when it tells you exactly how many players are online in the game when you log in (about 30 mins ago just over 49,000)  you don't need to check planets, although if you did, you'd be counting the dust players, and i think overall theres about 4,000 of them, total that is (including the offline players )

as for the f2p accounts in SW;TOR, they don't tend to generate any revenue, so does it matter if there are 1.7 million or 17 million of them..  0 multiplied by x amount of players is still.. 0..

How many players supplement their subs with Plex? By what nuymber do you multiply 49k with to get at the actual sub number?  How many EvE players have multiple accounts? How many play on the Chinese server and buy multiple gamecards that are counted as multiple subs? Blizzard has been accused of this practice for years to fudge their numbers. There is as much guesswork with EvE as with any other MMO. Keep spinning guys.

The Chinese game cards are usable on multiple games not just EvE, they would therefore only be counted when activated against an EvE account, similar to how a subscription would count once payment is made against an account. I believe there is just over 100k Chinese subs. I can't tell you how many Japanese subs there are, or Russian or US or EU, nationality doesn't matter, a monthly sub is a monthly sub.

Why is Plex relevant? If I purchase a Plex and sell it for credits and the buyer pays for their subscription with it, why on earth would it count differently than if my Auntie bought me a gametime card for WoW vs a regular WoW subscription

Thanks for answering those two questions I wondered where you were. Plex is relevant as it is a way for subscribers with multiple accounts to pay for their alt accounts, which puts into question how many individual accounts EvE has. EvE is a game that only allows the leveling of one character per account so in order to play EvE effectively you really need multiple accounts and puts questions to the actual nature of all those 500k accounts. So you believe there to be 100k Chinese accounts? So.. There is as much guesswork with EvE as with any other MMO. You are making the claim that CCP are more transparent about their playerbase than EA which is clearly wrong.

Some plex will be used to pay for multiple accounts, some will pay for time rich folks to play for free. Some people have multiple accounts in WoW and in others, some people accounts are paid for by others, at the end of the day the only meaningful number is the number of paid for accounts whether by credit card, Plex or parents buying gift cards.

I apologise for my Chinese language skills not being up to searching for an official number for the Chinese only server.

If you think EA are more transprent than CCP about their subscriber numbers then there isn't anything I can say to help you see reality so go ahead and claim victory, you win the internetz.

it has a pleasing amount of depth.

It could be as OP describes. Who knows. Corporate press releases are more of an art form then anything.

When Bioware said they had 2 million new ftp accounts, they also said SWTOR was the number 2 sub-based MMO in the Western World. Well if EVE has 500k+ paying sub accounts, well that doesn't really jibe.

In fact EA in general has been more spinster then anything in regard to SWTOR's sub numbers.

We have 1.7 million subs (turns out a large chunk were in their free month) SWTOR is the fastest growing MMO in history.

To, we have again, 1.7 million subs and growing (huh, how is it growing and have the same sub count?).

To, we have 1.3 million subs but stabilizing (even after giving everyone a free month?)

To, we have between one million and 500 k subs, but stabilizing. (That's a big range.)

To, subs don't matter anymore in a FTP game. (Then why is it a FTP option with an emphasis on subscribing. Are you sure subs don't count anymore?)

To, we are the 2nd biggest Western Sub-based MMO in the market. (But you said subs don't matter anymore, and it turns out you have less subs then EVE which has 500k +>)

To, we have less then 500k subs and growing. (Always a shrinking number. I don't think the game can take anymore growth or stabilization by your definition of the term.)

Wait, I thought Eve had about 300k subs? Do you have a source for Eve's 500k?

CCP are quite open about Subscriber numbers, you can also see concurrent accounts logged in on the client log in

Remember EVE has a Chinese client and that number is worldwide.

Correct, the concurrent numbers on the western client are only for Western players, not sure of the relevance of that to the subscriber numbers openly published by CCP though. My point was that CCP are open about it all.

Eve Online does not have close to 500K subs.

Oh yes they do.

Then its not #2 behind WoW. I was talking about western subs because I know it did not have over 500K over here. If we are talking about World Wide sub then games like Aion, Blade and Soul, Lineage 1 and Lineage 2 have subs in the millions. 500K world wide is nonthing.

It is still ahead of SWTOR.

I imagine they count each monthly subscription (the only way to pay) as 1 subscription. Simple really.

If only china server has same payment model...

All is so simple when you do not put much thought into it.

The Chinese server uses prepaid game cards, minimum of 1 month at a time.
