World of Warcraft: Mists of Pandaria: The War Back in Warcraft
News Discussion « General Discussion 4/23/12 5:52:28 PM
Didn't they pretty much use the same line when Cataclysm was in the works? Something about the king of Stormwind and the new Warchief being more warlike and they were focusing on returning to a more hostile world and blah blah? |

When I skimmed over it, I read it as "Beta weekend delayed..." and got sad for a split second. :p |

Why Im going to enjoy watching SWTOR circle the drain
General Discussion « Star Wars: The Old Republic 3/18/12 2:18:06 AM
I personally hope the best for SWTOR, not as a fan of the game, but as someone that is afraid to see the failure rate of MMORPGs steadily climb. Its only a matter of time before game developers get the message. Not that we're not willing to deal with substandard games, but that they're not worth risking the finances to develop. |

Fantastic Game. NO BS. This is a Solid Game
General Discussion « Star Wars: The Old Republic 11/22/11 8:09:14 PM
I honestly like the game, but I fear that it is missing the special something to give it lasting appeal. What that something is, I can't narrow down to a single fault. I just feel that once I've played a character through to completion, what drive would I have to do it again? Like I said, I like the game. I'll play it and enjoy it - for a while. But where is the lasting appeal? Because in this particular genre, that appeal may mean much more than the launch, the reviews, and the story. |

I imagine grouping would be a much more popular choice if it were accessible by multiple levels of dedication with the same compensation for roughly equal effort requirements. This would keep grouping from becoming a hunt for the best of the best to get rewards only accessible by the chosen few. I don't have tons of friends that play games, and when joining guilds I have a choice of the mega guilds that require a short list of demands be met weekly or a 'tight knit group of friends' guild that show preference to the 'inside group' and generally only include what classes their BFFs don't play. So...if my PuG can't do what your guild group can do and be rewarded equally, why bother grouping? If your guild can't get me in a raid, and our guild can't get equal rewards, why join up? If I can't even solo, why subscribe? Unlike back in the days of Everquest and Ultima, there are tons of other options competing for my subscription. But sure, I'm willing to group if the reward is there for my efforts, but it just seems that if I'm not in a power-group my rewards for grouping at all dramatically drop off (they don't exist). In my opinion, WoW had a chance to counter this with the instance currencies (Marks or whatever they're called now). Players got in the way of this by demanding their elite section of the community have sole access to certain levels of reward - despite the time and effort put in by the others. If you didn't take part in their teir of content, your equal effort never had equal reward. I'm down with you getting more rewards for your more challenging accomplishment - but I should be able to, over time, get the same rewards with my ragtag group(s). I've rambled to the point that I forgot my point. In the end, with competitiveness being such a large part of current MMOs, I feel that content should be about completionism and challenge, and reward should be about effort and time. I know this isn't likely a popular idea, and that is why we're in the situation we're in. If we've both been playing for a month, you doing what entertained you, and me doing what I find fun - why should either of us be restricted? So you or I feel more elite? end random rambling, hope someone can make out my meaning.

Neocron is able to accept NA players again. Its small, retro, and in a less common genre (cyberpunk), so it should interest you for a bit. A pal and I went back to it recently. I got bored pretty quickly but it was enjoyable for a spell. The learning curve is kind of steep and the UI is as unintuitive as any I've encountered, but patience will reward you with a pretty interesting experience. Istaria has a really good community but its a bit bland for my tastes. Its mostly just crafting with mediocre combat and exceptionally nice folk to speak with. Those are really all I can recommend without feeling like I'm steering you wrong. Both require subscriptions, so if that is an issue than I apologize.
If you settle on anything, please leave a post. My pals and I are going through our list of older MMOs for a nostalgia kick and it'd be interesting to see what you end up at. |

There is nothing redeeming about this game. It has nothing new to offer the genre and what it recycles is so poorly executed that it's not worth mentioning. The game is a C- execution of a fantasy Gears of War in an ugly, buggy, poorly balanced package. The archer is fairly entertaining until the end of the first level, and whatever unlucky friend you stick with the melee character has every right to never speak with you again. The game quickly establishes itself as a series of clicking left mouse, shooting whatever is shiny to progress, trying your best not to touch environmental details so you don't get stuck, and avoiding monsters like they're monsters so they don't 2hit murder you. The commentary is enough to make me want to quit the game (the first level the two PCs spend the entire time obsessing over a barking dog in the background...thats the highlight). If it were an indie title, I could see this passing as a 10-15$ title, but as a published, full price game touted as being the next big thing? Not even close. Anyway, I honestly hate to bash games, but I can stomach the entire Gothic series despite its glaring flaws and feel this one is a notch below that series' worst. Do yourself a favor if you just -have- to try this game, and give it a month or so until it drops to $4.99. I expect it won't be much longer than that. |

Saga is now recruiting! [US-PvP] Adult-Only/Established in 2003
Guild Recruitment « Rift 5/16/11 1:02:56 PM
How active are you in tier 1 or with new players? Interested in joining but if its more of the "Yeah you can join but we won't even respond to you until you're 50," I'll find a leveling guild first. :)
Anyway, you guys look interesting, hoping for good news in response. (there will likely be 2 or 3 of us noobies.) |

UPDATED: Not Worth Your Money, Give It Six Months
General Discussion « Earthrise 4/23/11 2:12:30 AM
I've decided to give this game a whirl and am downloading it as I type this out. I'd be happy to give an honest review of my first day playing and include details of whatever it is people may be interested in knowing more about (assuming it can be accurately experienced in a days playtime. ) I can upload videos and whatnot as I go through, just let me know if there is any interest. PS: If any current players would like to adopt me or show me the ropes, it'd be much appreciated. Feel free to post or PM with your name and I'll come to you. |

So I've tried a few posts on here trying to find an active pvp guild and mostly haven't seen a lot offered. I'd just like to find an active PvP guild - don't care where or what side, just folks to go killing with. I'm partial to rogue/cleric and tinkered with warrior souls and generally play support roles. Feel free to PM or respond if you need info from me. |

It depends on what type of platform you're buying. Desktops are generally cheaper to assemble yourself by a good margin. For Laptops, I'd recommend XoticPC.com, I got mine there, and for about 2500$, got a rig that can run anything my 6k desktop can run with just a few setting differences. They also have Customer Support, something I never got from Ibuypower/Cyberpower (or whatever, same company). A small note on their willingness to help customers - I'm in the Navy, was deploying to Kuwait on Feb. 24. Due to billing issues on my part, I wasn't able to verify my order until Feb. 20th, XoticPC upped my order to expedited processing and had the laptop to me in time to take it with me. All free. I think XoticPC is starting to make desktops too, they used to be nothing but Laptops. I can't comment on that side though. But my Sager Laptop from them is amazing. Anyway, I'd really recommend them for the laptop market. And hand assemble desktops if you're comfortable with that. |

I was just curious if anyone who plays on Dark Crag's destruction faction would be interested in making a coop for taking the fight to Order? This isn't an advertisement for a guild or support group (unless folks wanna go that route), just a running grouping of folks ready and willing to form up and put the hurt on the goodies. Levels/Teirs don't really matter, just a willingness to die for no pay or benefits. |

How can an EU player play on a Aus/USA server?
General Discussion « WAR (Warhammer Online) 4/20/09 9:33:23 PM
You can buy keys for the US version from certain sites. Gamersloot is one I use since they don't sell any TOS/EULA breaking goods/services, but they're generally a bit more pricey than the sites that do. Most MMOs have a server.ini file you can edit to redirect your client to the US/Aus patch/login servers. I don't know if its the same with WAR but imagine it would be. It would save you the hassle of waiting for shipping overseas if you have the game in hand and just need a US account. Just an alternative method if you're interested. |

Most of these videos were taken without shaders or lighting effects which add mass detail to games. I haven't seen the game WITH these effects, so I can't say its true, but I can imagine if it is that the game will look much better with em. |
