IMO it is always foolish to spend money on a MMO that is not yet released and it is foolish to pay to be a player tester. I learned this hard lesson through first hand experience making these mistakes myself with a MMO. I won't "invest" in a MMO thru a Kickstarter project either for there are no legal protections for Investors that participate in these.

I sincerely hope that SC does launch so those Players who have spent their money on it already don't get burned.

I won't lie to you. Yes it is a skill intensive, time intensive, "grindy" MMO. It always has been, probably always will be. The way Wurm is made, the way we can terraform the land, the way we have options on how to shape the land, almost necessitates it be this way...

...but they did add a new feature to digging that does help some... The "Level" command. It allows a character to stand on one tile, "Flatten" that tile, then without moving click on the adjacent tiles and "Level" then to the tile you are standing on. It makes the whole process of leveling an area so we can build a house or plant a farm area much easier and faster than what it was before.

The whole crafting system and most of what we do in Wurm is step by step, very specific, and it takes time. Wurm is the kind of MMO experience where you have to spend time to achieve things, but when you do finish a project your sense of achievement beats anything I feel in any other MMO. Because it took time and "effort".

You have to decide for yourself if this is the kind of MMO you might enjoy. I can only recommend People try it for themselves.


I've played this game since around 2007 to 2008, can't remember exactly when I started to be honest. Have had at least one Premium character most of the times during those years and have owned several deeds over the years as well. So I speak from experience as a Player that still plays Wurm Online (I have never been Staff or part owner of Wurm, so I gain nothing from sharing my feelings here).

Some of what the OP complains of IS TRUE. Rolf and Devs have a bad habit of releasing new content that breaks the Code and then it can take literally months and even years for the new problems to be fixed. Rolf has always been this way. He still does it.

Yes in the last few months being a owner of horses, cattle, and especially buffalo has been irritating with the "stand in one spot" bug, then they moved but trampled everything, then the buffalo got warp drive. Gives me a headache just remembering it all. About as fun as when the wooden fences suddenly acted like they weren't there and horses got out all over the servers a year or two ago.

As for the committee thing.... Rolf DID handpick a "Player Committee" that he draws suggestions from, and the identities of the committee ARE SECRET, so as in any secret committee in human organizations it can not be truly trusted because it will never answer to the people it is supposed to represent. I myself consider the committee a fanboi club for I have no other way of knowing otherwise. I myself think this was stupid on Rolf's part, for it decreases our trust in him and in CodeClub as a MMO Provider. Other MMO Providers have done the same and I wasn't happy they did it either to be fair.


Wurm has these kinds of problems all the time. Why do I continue to play this game? Why do do I continue to support it?

Not because I make money at it (as many do), but because there is only one MMO like Wurm, and I played many MMOs over the years, including Vanguard and Ishtaria (did not try Xsyon). There is no other MMO that allows Players to terraform, shape, and "frontier" a virtual world like Wurm.

Yes there are new MMOs on the way that will provide similar features. Try Wurm online for yourself and see what you think... and be warned that Wurm is not perfect, but even with the problems it's imo awesome and THAT is why I still play it.

I personally recommend you Try Wurm for yourselves.

Players are already adapting to this new design style of gaming in a MMO, I see it in Guild in WildStar already. The way the Devs designed the game it "ramps up" in difficulty and almost teaches a Player the new mechanics needed.

I think most MMO Players that find WildStar enjoyable WILL adapt and push forward.

I do know a few or more of us will "fall by the wayside" because we can not adapt due to whatever reason.

I am not asking for the Nerf Bat to be applied to WildStar... leave it as it is. I don't see WildStar's design as wrong or incorrect... just different than what we have been used to in most of the older MMOs. I think it's a great MMORPG even if I can't really play it. Players just need to give themselves time to learn how to play this well.

Well regardless of how you, or I, or feels about Mythic, they are still one of the early pioneers of MMOs and a long veteran in online gaming. A certain amount of acknowledgment to this seems fitting.

I acknowledge they were able to make 1 one successful game over a decade ago. I acknowledge they spent the last decade trying and failing to accomplish anything else. Pioneers all right...


"Pioneers" of anything usually do not adapt to the change that takes a thing or situation from a "Frontier" to "Civilization". This is not surprising.

Give me a Frontier back in MMOs.(wishful thinking.. the Frontier is gone)

In regards to the OP's question... "Do I think an Average MMORPGamer will find this easy?"

Depends on whom you define as "Average".

Depends on how you define "Easy".

But I will confess to anyone who reads my post MY OWN EXPERIENCE with WildStar and what the result was:


I was in Beta for a bit from February onward, and I found the need to avoid telegraphs and dodge to be above my own abilities, in other words... this MMO is too difficult for me personally. I have Nerve damage and arthritis in my wrists and elbows, so WildStar is tough for me to play and very painful... plus to be honest I am just too slow to play this MMO.

I can still play LotRO, I can still play EvE, I can still play dozens of MMORPGs, but I was never a console gamer, nor did I take well to GW2's dodge mechanic or other "Action" MMOs, so I anticipated I was going to have trouble with WildStar, but I never thought I was going to have as much trouble as I do. It surprised me.

WildStar *IS* easy at lower levels of 10 and below, then the difficulty begins to ramp up and then after level 20 the REAL action gameplay finally begins.... levels 1 to 20 kind of trains the Player to get ready for how WildStar combat is later on. But I can't "pass the chapter exam" in WildStar. I can't play the game past 20 without eating telegraphs and taking dirt naps.

Anyone that tells you this game is easy for an average MMO gamer is forgetting that many "average" MMO gamers are older than 25, some are pushing 50 or older, and a MMO like this one is going to be difficult or even too much for them *OR* they never made it past level 20. WildStar is an action MMO that requires Player physical skill, reflexes, and health. Carbine has not hidden this, but as a MMO Gamer I assumed I could play this MMO like I have been able to play many others. I was wrong.

WildStar isn't rocket science, but it does require skills closer to a console game than what is required for an "Average" MMO (not counting GW2).

No sense in me playing this game. I failed at it during Beta. I washed out in this MMO. This WildStar humbled me. I am too old for this young person's action MMO. I tried to adapt to this MMO, change how I play, but in my case I wasn't able to.

WildStar is a perfect example why some games are played by those with good reflexes and fast hand/eye coordination, while other Players won't touch them. Traditionally MMOs did not require the reflexes common to Console Games, now with WildStar now they do.


I did not ask for a refund. The Devs did a superb job on this MMO. I was satisfied with it's quality at this stage in it's life.

I wish Carbine and the Players of WildStar well.




After my experience with paying for a sandbox MMO that's not ready for release, the emails from the Devs of TR seemed too good to be true. Sounds too much like a MMO I have played for years and now regret doing so.

After Rolf and his Wurm Online I will never play a new sandbox MMO again. The Repopulation just happens to be collateral damage. Same with all new Indy sandbox MMOs for me.

I wanted to drop my own opinion here even though I have not donated to the crowdfunding project of Star Citizen.

Disclaimer: My opinion, and in no way am I telling anyone else what to do. Everyone can do what they please.

I will never donate to any crowd funding project of any Online Game, MMO, or MMORPG (or any other Gaming product.) As far as I know there is no solid and established customer legal safeguards for this type of endeavor. I don't see it as investing, since Players do not end up owning Stocks in the MMO Publisher or any of their subsidiaries. It's a donation, nothing more, and with no hope or guarantee of a return in any way shape or form.

Why? Because all Humans are greedy. They would sell their relatives before losing money, most of them. How do I know a particular Developer is one of a tiny minority that actually has and practices a form of ethical code that support treating customers fairly? Hmm? I don't now if this Dev or That Dev is "honorable" anymore than I know can trust a Politician or a Used Car Salesman. Some Politicians and Used Car Salesman ARE good People, just hard to tell most of the time. I don't like that kind of uncertainty.

So I choose to consider all crowdfunding as "Suspect Endeavors" and I choose to regard all Devs and MMO Publishing companies that hold a crowdfunding event as "Suspect" as well. I'm not passing judgement against any People here, just that I see this as VERY RISKY with no legal recourse if I as a contributor get burned. To me that is what I call "Suspect". I won't participate in a Crowdfunding by donating, nor will I buy the game/mmo when it is released at all. At the present time I see crowdfunding events for MMOs the same as I see Emulators for MMOs... avoid the Emu games and the Emu Devs at all cost. Until then I want nothing to do with the crowdfunding event or it's organizers or it's benefactors.

If someday real Laws get enacted that provide real legal protections for Contributors to Crowdfunding projects.. and precedences in Courts to back them up... then I will reconsider my decision and opinion on this. ... However, in the current political, business, and judicial climate in the US I highly doubt I will live to see any Laws protecting contributors to crowdfunding events get any real legal protections.

So for Star Citizen, I am avoiding this MMO even when it releases. I really don't trust the Dev Team of any MMO that would run a crowdfunding event. When I say I don't "trust" them what I mean is I feel their system of acceptable ethics and my own are not a match or equal. Every Business relationship to me is a relationship first, and common ground must be found between the parties in a relationship before business should begin. I personally have had too many bad business relationships in this life and I want to avoid any more that come along. When I don't believe crowdfunding is ethical, yet a Dev Team does, that right there in my mind is a mismatch for a good business relationship.

Star Citizen might end up actually being made and launched... I hope it will be... for the Players that have contributed, and the Players to come, and for the Devs themselves. We need more Space MMOs that's for certain... IMO.

Reality is, if you never liked MMOs, changing it doesn't mean you do like them.  In the end we have a misnamed game.  That is what we have here today... games that call themselves MMOs that aren't really MMOs all because someone preferred tetris over chess.  Too late now, the cats out of the bag.  It's not going to be turned back into chess now.  Tetris it is, like it or not.  We got screwed.  Plain and simple.  Time to turn CoD into UO or the like because that is the only way you're going to get your game back, by screwing the players in another genre out of their game just like those did to ours.

If you like, enjoy, and can play action MMOs, and you are a WoW Player looking where many of those who left WoW are going to, ....if you can answer "yes" to any of these.... Then yes you are missing it.

If you don't like action MMOs, or don't have the skill to play them (and many do not honestly), or if you don't "get along" with the WoW crowd (me), then I would advise you to stay away from WildStar.

Never have I seen a MMO with some much talk, reminiscing, and references to WoW as I have seen in chat and in forums of WildStar. It's like an exodus occurred and they found a new home. I'm not a "WoWite" and I felt so out of place in WildStar ( the community ) it was scary in a way.

Was playing, not anymore. Great game, in many ways a great community, I'm just not playing anymore... and I couldn't get the hang of all the dodging. (no I don't play console games and fps games, I play traditional mmos that don't have the dodging mechanic.) I also did not feel comfortable or really "welcome" there with all the talk about WoW this and WoW that. I don't blame them for reminiscing... I just now have a much better understanding what it must be like to be a MMO Player and not have played DAoC... I myself have talked about this MMO a bunch over the years and I bet others felt like I do now. You have my apologies if there are due.

So I would advise trying it out for a bit first before committing to it.

My opinion, for what's it worth. Wish them at Carbine and players of WildStar all the best.

I've been torn by this question in the past. After years of playing MMOs, and many different styled ones, I would say "Yes" I believe it should not be allowed. I used to sub 2 accounts in EvE years ago and if I went back to that MMO I would not now run 2 accounts even if ordered to by my Corp (for example). I play Wurm Online but maintain only one Premium Account and One Deed for I now consider it a game abuse to run multiple accounts and multiple deeds... for I have experienced frist hand in Wurm just what of an abuse to other Players "multiboxing" can become. Such abuse does not happen frequently, but enough that I now stand against multiboxing in any form, in any MMO.

To break it down for specifics...

For PvP definitely not allowed, it's supposed to be "player vs. Player, not character(x) vs. character(x), at least to me it should be. One Player should not be able to control an army no matter how much money a MMO Publisher makes from it. My opinion as a Player.

For PvE I also say Yes because no matter what anyone says most MMO's PvE environments are still "Players against Players" in that it is competitive in regards to loot, harvestable resources, land area (in the MMOs where you can claim land in a PvE area), quest objectives, etc. Some MMOs have solved some of this but not all of it. So it still should be each Player running one character IMO.

Some may disagree with my opinion on this, maybe even hate it, but we each have our own opinions on this. My post is directed towards no one in particular, just expressing my feelings concerning this Poll and Thread and it's subject.

I will say this... I do NOT agree with how uses a grading system that seems to be 1 - 10 but in reality all scores are at least 5 and above at a bare minimum. Hogwash I say and because of it I consider their scoring system FUBAR. A system such as this is designed to do one thing.... to kiss the Devs rearends and get Players to believe a deception. It's a Used Car Salesman dirty sales tactic and nothing more.

Sorry if my opinion offends but that how I see it. To be fair most of American Business is plagued with this kind of nonsense deceptive crap and I'm about as tired of it as I can get. If I could hop on a starship and get away from this greedmonger culture we have now (which is everywhere on Earth now) I would be the first in line to go... but that is even more of a unattainable fantasy then expecting Reviewers to go back to using a grading system that is truly 1 - 10.

The OP seems to be using a system that is truly 1 - 10, and for that I applaud them. Well Done.

To me that means a score of 4.5 is just below middle ground or average. I don't play ESO so I won't comment on the score other than to say It is not necessarily a bad thing to have a score of 4.5 on a 1-10 because the MMO is new and the Devs have room for improvement. I encourage the Devs to keep at it because they do have faithful customers (even I see that) and Elder Scrolls is an IP worthy of a great MMO.

Actually, Zenimax does not have any history with Tamriel, this is their first game using the Elder Scrolls IP. Your just confusing them with Bethesda, which for the record, Bethesda have always said they would never make an MMO based on the Elder Scrolls, they will however continue to make single player games using the Elder Scrolls IP, which is probably just as well. Bethesda did not have a hand in the designing of ESO, although they are credited as being the publisher, which in all probability is only because the IP is theirs.

Might help to realise this is also one of the reasons why Zenimax has not managed to gain favour with the Elder Scrolls community. And has increasingly found disfavour with the online community as a whole, particularly when you throw in their recent debacle involving the OR. Zenimax is swiftly becoming one of the 'hated' companies, whether that will have an impact on ESO also remains to be seen, it may well be the last nail when all is said and done.

Zenimax is the number one reason why I won't touch TESO ever.

Their reputation precedes them. That's why I did not even go to the beach... and I generally don't make a habit of saying so.

(If I as a customer have the opinion I should not trust a MMO Publisher I won't play their MMO no matter how awesome it is, even if everyone on the planet except me is playing it.)


If the OP had any idea how many People don't play ESO and never say a word about it he would be thankful they don't all log on here and share that.

Every MMO/MMORPG has it's fans, Players who tried and left, Players that didn't try and say nothing, and Players who didn't try but see that MMO as an evil that must be "posted" into the ground. "SSD[MMO]".

Eve becoming obsolete isn't a question of 'if' - it's a question of whether it will happen in 2015 or 2016.



Eve is nothing if its not a game that evolves over time, but i think your misreading the situation, and while Dust may be a lost cause, and Valkyrie an unknown factor, games like Elite; Dangerous and Star Citizen are more than capable of existing side by side with Eve, i don't think its going to be a question of either/or in whether people play them, if anything it just broadens the spectrum of Sci/fi games, which is currently very sparse, with few successes and more than its fair share of failures. I don't see Eve changing in that sense, it will in all probability remain the niche game that has always been, what may happen though, is that the games that people play alongside Eve, are dropped in favour of those games, that i could easily see happening. If their successful enough, it may even have a positive effect on Eve too, though i have to say, the stranglehold fantasy themeparks have on MMO's does need to be loosened. As an Eve player i am really looking forward to both those games, but it won't change whether i play Eve or not


Eve will not be evolving over time - the 6-monthly expansions will not happen from now on.

The carebear crowd already have plenty of AAA mmos to play and is somewhat "unfair" they wanting a complete domination in the genre, with no even a crumb to the pvp crowd.

AA will do very well in Russia because the playerbase wants a Lineage 3 and AA seens to fill well that role. 




Carebears (at least some of us) want a sandbox mmo with just as many build, create, craft, affect ingame world choices without the PvP that normally goes with a sandbox mmo.... and we want it from a mmo NOT owned by SOE (some of us will no longer do business with SOE under any circumstances, so Landmark is out).

We know we're not wanted in AA, at least some us of know that. You won't find me there. A mmo is no fun when you know your invitation to the party is forged. I'm too old to mess with PvP anymore and I haven't like PvP for years now. I and other carebears would be as out of place in AA as hockey fans at a Tea Party.

Besides... you PvP types will find numerous ways to push out the carebears like you have done in EvE.
