Anyone can answer me this, what is the death penalty or Risk VS reward mechanic for the normal ruleset? I see there is no looting from that graphic, well.... If isnt looted and or discarded and damaged etc, and the best stuff is player made, wont this completely destroy the player economy in short order?   The pvp ruleset looks legit, but man I get tired of the no lifer basement dwellers griefing for the hell of it constantly.  That ruleset usually ends up with a community like Seatribe games and mortal online have.  Scum of the earth and a year later, just 100 dudes and some alts are playing the server.   Thanks.

And before anyone spouts off it worked in pre t2a UO, well back then the average player was an adult,  and we didn't waste our bandwidth back then just to troll people. There were still griefers sure, but the majority of the playerbase was relatively chill and the term griefer, and troll etc hadn't really even developed yet, outside of AOL chatrooms and compuserve BBS.

Now we just need the greedy @$@&'s at autodesk and Adobe to take a lesson.
While you might think your comment is witty, in another year, that PC aside from some unneccesary peripheral upgrades will cost less than a PS4. Which coincides with the most likely non beta release date of valkryie, which will I am sure be mid 2015. Also PS4 will be woefully out of date ancient hardware by then as well.

Because it is being developed for a console that has been in development for 5 years, not a cutting edge PC. That means it will suffer dramatically in game play and ability, because it wasn't developed with the power of the pc in mind.  Im sorry but the PS4, is not and will not operate like a sandy bridged, SLI GTX 760 PC with 16 gigs of ram.  That is the point of this.  That imo makes the game handicapped and complete trash from the start.
This console, most likely exclusive news, just ruined my entire day.  I swear Sony must be nut cupping CCPs executives in some fashion for them to make mistakes like this.  If you think this is going to be up to elite dangerous and star citizens visual standards even if it gets ported to PC afterwards, your going to be just as disappointed.   At least we have 2 titles to look forward too.
Im actually a backer of that and so is a buddy of mine, but it doesn't focus on the vikings and seafaring and raiding like they did.  Multicrew seafaring will add a tremendous amount to the pvp in the game.

God yes I want a viking game that I can rape and pillage in.

Im also a big fan of frank millers work, there would be copious amounts of gore and graphic violence, and we would embrace an M rating, with female chests visible, I think after playing mortal online we will skip the lower half...  If anyone has played that, you can imagine why.  I dont know what would be required for kill cams in an mmo setting, where you get a critical dice roll on a final blow, but I would absolutely love to add that.  That would be a post release dream though.

I'm always skeptical of FFA PvP games and not sure how the "in view" thing would actually work but the other aspects sound cool. I'd love a low fantasy setting game with sandbox elements.

Well it would be FFA pvp, however, we will focus on risk vs reward.  No gear will be so epic that you would rage quit if you lost it, and you will be able to build player housing from hobbit holes, to farms, to estates.  You can store extra gear in there and you will respawn in your house if your killed.  Only murders would die forever.  You would just be naked and spawn at your house, and do a corpse run to get your stuff.  That would be the only death penalty, no xp loss or anything crappy like that.  Without the threat of a warband possibly invading your player made village, there is no thrill.  I want that to be a serious part of the game.  I also want active villages to have the tools to defend against elite raiders, causing them to possibly want to find an easier target.

As far as in view for reporting crimes,  depending on the draw distance that is possible with the engine, if that player is looking and can see the act happening they will get the option to report the murder in a small popup window.  If they can make it back to home or a town without dying, they can report the incident, and that person is marked forever with a murder count.   Im guessing also there can be partial counts or something for getting caught thieving as well. Maybe for assault and battery as well.  That part would get ironed out in alpha.   Legal village vs village war decs will also be considered.  As far as monetizing the game, most likely it will be a expanded land claim fees, aside from the basic one every citizen gets, and a small 10$ a month sub fee, to pay for bandwidth and maintenance.

Im trying to generate interest with some friends over developing a game, based on the viking era, circa 900-1100 AD history for the danes, UK, and france / germany.  Using the real world map.

PVP would consist of mount and blade style hack and slash, yes it will be twitch no there wont be any ridiculous super moves.  Youll have the choice of a few heavy swings, moderate swings, light thrusts, ripostes, and dodge parrys etc. Mostly depending on the weapon.

Item quality will be various grades of iron and steel purity's, crafters will have to work extremely hard to get their purity's up, and quality up.

Skills and skill tree, will be based on a 1000 pt cap, with 100 in each skill being max.  There is no classes, you make your own template.

Crafting would be similar to SWG, in that resources would be procedurally generated around the world in the ground, and iron ore, and coal etc will vary in quality.  Once the node is depleted its gone forever, however a new one will spawn, somewhere in the world to replace it.  Trees would be the same way, using multiple trees to make something, would average the quality out.  Want new trees that are amazing, start using forestry skill, and replanting your cuts of good trees in your base.  Same goes with all manner of stuff, goats, honey, cows, etc etc.

Survival aspect, players will need to drink and eat, if they don't they will die, forever.  Eating higher quality foods, will make the filling status last longer, and cause your stamina from fighting to lower slower. Going to war, you will want to eat a nice high quality T bone steak before you ship out.

Skills raised ala UO, with as used, they go up. Near the end game, going from 90.2 to 90.3 might take you 3 days of casual play.

I played darkfall back in the blood wall days, I wouldn't allow that to happen, focusing on pve only for skill gains to keep the macro bots from causing issues.

The majority of pve content will be located in the far north of scotland, where the picts a non playable race, and all their gods, and glory would exist, aside from them, you would have hunting wild animals that could easily kill you, in the wild lands.

Base building, would be free form castle building, from wooden palisades, to massive stone structures. They would take weeks to make a proper palisade, years possibly to make the proper castle without a massive team of players.

The entire world is destructible, and siege weapons will be in game. Buildable on sight, but require at least 24 hours before they are ready to be used. Once they are dropped a timer will start, soon as the timer is up the siege engine is destroyable and also can destroy.  Stone walls cannot be breached without a siege weapon, but walls can be scaled without them. Players being severely vulnerable while climbing walls.

Lastly Permadeath will be in game, but only if you've murdered more than 5 players in view of anyone besides the victim.  Once that happens your considered infamous, and if killed, welp that char is gone forever. That would encourage players to play together, to at least report the incident, and also would build an assassin playerstyle as well.

That's just a rough draft.  Were all graduating soon, and need a project to work on together.  Graphics wont be stellar its way too expensive, but they will be modern and 3d, and look similar to mount and blade warband, we would use that as inspiration.

Thanks!

Edit: I should also mention seafaring will be a large part of the game, and weather conditions and season will directly effect whether or not your chieftan or at least ship captain is a complete idiot for setting sail.  Also all ships will be a pita to make, but can be as small as a row boat, to a massive 100 man long boat or single masted trade ship, with all your buddies able to get on if its large enough.  Im not totally sure how it would work or not but boats will likely have HP and rough seas will slowly drain them, your goal as captain is to make sure you have the HP to survive the worst by half, so you can make it home as well.  If a ship goes down to davy jones locker with you all in it, your all dead and sent back home naked sans warship.

You guys are missing it, they completely abandoned the male gamer about 8 years or so ago.  They now court children of young ages and parents. They release games that have like almost no violence and lots of work out stuff, and tasteful things you can leave on at a kids birthday party, and you wont get angry parent phonecalls, cause an 8 yeah old couldnt talk about anything but fatalities and headshots otw home in mommies mini van.

My sister never bought any game system ever, she makes a heapload of money and is a single parent. The first system she bought was a leap pad, for her daughter, when she outgrew that, she bought 2 Wii's. One for each of her houses. She doesnt even play them, they are there with a copy of 3 games that she likes for her daughter, and im sure as time progresses, she will get a new game each year x2 for her daughter at xmas time.  When those wii's quit being supported, she will do the same I am sure with the next gen, family freindly kid based console.

That is the target audience for them now, and I have to imagine, its got to be nice holding a large market share where the only competition you have is the leap pad.

SWGEMU because its free, and brings back what was outstanding in mmo's.  Open persistant world, open world pvp, sandbox crafting economy etc. You cant beat that, and noone else is even trying. Oh and its free.
I bought the game on release day, quit after a month, because it was terrible.  I went back for the f2p and really enjoyed the game, however..... They had it setup so that you couldnt compete in anything pvpwise, with 100% of AA advancement and really the entire end game only available to people that subbed, even if you bought the expansion.. Is this still the case? Because I was hovering for the purchase button, and I do not want to pay monthly to have access to the entire point of the end game. The 2g thing and the char slots thing, meant nothing to me, as gold in the game has almost no value at all, the economy in a themepark game is more or less pointless, with no real item loss.   Thanks!

i played swg for 2 years and i played swtor for 4 weeks.

not empty quoting, but i lasted 2 years in swg, and 4 hours in swtor stress test weekend.  RIP Mos Vegas, outside anchorhead, shadowfire server.

That being said, anyone that gets bored, or rage quits over an unfair perma pvp death, can I use your beta key. Puhleassee. I got more than enough links like many others, and never got a beta key to try it. Thanks! Just pm it to me if your feeling generous.

After swg pre cu, i was really excited about a new star wars IP mmorpg.  Unfortunately I got to beta test in the stress test, for about 4 hours, before i deleted it from my computer.  Absolutely nothing like it, and just another wow clone rip off, with terrible graphics.

try fallen earth, no seriously give it a shot and make it to level 15, before you rage quit.

Ive at least beta tested, but mostly played every major mmo to date, I would say that your options are somewhat limited, but I think you guys should give a shot to fallen earth.  Theres an intense amount of crafting available as its a free 2 play game, and there is also the running around and harvesting mats, not as deep as farming like farmville, but the crafting side is pretty intense. It being a player based economy its really what the game is about.  When I say playerbased i mean that 90% of the stuff people wear and run around with are player made, not raid loot.

The combat is fairly simple, and the death penalties which are very few, are tame enough that even a wow player can get past them, which is rare in a mostly sandbox title.  Its quite fun, and currently im killing some time in it.  The penalties for playing it for free are also very tame, and I think at 5$ for each of you to get the updated crafting tool, unlocks your accounts to full status.  Very cheap in the swing of things.  Enjoy :)

MO pvp is nothing like that, its get on horse and kite with bugged archery bows, or be a member of AQ and use cronite to lol 2 hit noobs to death that are in steel armor.   Darkfall i cant really agree / disagree on, when i saw the flesh wall for the first time, i deleted the game.

Its painfully obvious that all but 1 poster above,  so far that mentioned EvE pvp, has never even remotely gotten involved in real large scale professional level warfare.  I lead an alliance called gentlemen's club for about 1.5 years, we had about 2500 members at our max and about 2k members in our various training / renter alliances.  We controlled about half a 0.0 region, and owned about half a dozen stations. ....and we were considered scrubs when it came to the top of the heap, though we werent to just be discounted.   We rolled with our big brother alliance ATLAS in a few massive wars, 1 of which ended in righteous victory, and 2 of which failed pretty hard. The last one more or less took the wind out of my sails, and I realized i had just wasted over a year of my life fighting with the russians over internet pixels.

http://eve.battleclinic.com/killboard/combat_record.php?type=player&name=Mya+ElleTerego

Thats not me bragging btw, thats just me backing up what I am saying.

Eve combat is what you make of it, you can surely like above posters say, click a few buttons, set an orbit, and pray.  That will 99/100 times get you killed and laughed at by almost anyone with real pvp experience.  Holding range, keeping yourself aligned at key times during conflicts,  keeping your tranversal speeds up so you can avoid being shot entirely, outrunning slow missles, avoiding getting your team tackled or flying into warp bubbles, and tackling your opponents when its time to go in for the slaughter, are just a few of 100s of tactics that are necessary for a competent FC to have under his belt.  Not to mention knowing local politics, and global politics of the regions your roaming for pvp, knowing how to setup fleet doctrines to ensure that your team of 10-500 pilots are in proper ships to support each other, and to create strategys for sustainability in long engagements. Are just basic things that a fleet commander should have complete grasp of.   To top that all off you have to be ready to escalate fights, with capital ships, suicide bombing runs, reinforcements cleverly hidden in other systems, and exit strategys to minimize loss of morale and isk in ships to your team, should things get escalated by your enemies.

Eve is by far the most complicated, destructive, adrenaline pumping game ever created.  The only thing holding back a player is themselves, and thier ability to game.

Itemization and gear grind released with age of shadows i think it was called, more or less killed the game for its core audience.  They were trying to compete with EQ and wow i guess, and it was probably EA's decision.  When you had to kill dragons and terathons for a week, and collect the retarded items from vendors to get magical smithy hammers etc, just to be competitive, and then bless the items so you couldnt lose them in pvp anymore, the game went to crap.
