Between fools making up negative stuff about the game and morons defending the game to death has anyone fallen in the middle? Somewhere around "I like the game but they screwed up a bit".

I think that's where I am...though I'm sure both sides would think I'm on the other :)

heh, same here Cres.

Anything good I say about the game (and I have, plenty, especially being positive about the companions, envionments, and story areas) is ignored.

Any negative I say about the game gets me 50 pages of being called a troll haha.

I WAS looking forward to this game, I DID want it to work. It ISNT the worst game ever, and it WILL do well. I just feel they could have made a lot of better choices. I have no blanket hate for it.

I never saw you as a hater in particular,  I just feel you lack all of the information.    Likewise with me when I talk about GW2, most people write me off as a hater,  but I've always said I was looking forward to the game and all positive comments go completely ignored.

This isn't isolated to game forums. It happens in all aspects of life. For some reason people respond much more to the negatives rather than the positives.

More space options and sandbox elements are what I would choose for sure.

In the middle. I like Bioware games and I do think the story aspect of the game will be great. I just don't like the type of combat they are using and the use of the trinity. I feel both are out of place in a star wars universe.

I suppose you have to ask yourself, does the gameplay fit the setting. I haven't played SWTOR so I couldn't tell you but if it really does play like WoW then I do think that was the wrong approach to take.

I would make end game 90% user created content. The forming of factions and politics by the players that have impact on the world.

I agree here. But also, it's critical that the game has multiple plots, story lines, and mysteries moving along at all times.

This is your 10% you didn't mention. But this part can involve all the players and be 100% part of what's happening in the world.

Well the game should provide the backdrop for that. Then the players can influence all of that to shape the world in different directions depending on what they do.

Static "endgame" play needs to change.

I did the same thing.

I subbed for a month to check it out, logged in for a few days and have not logged back in since.

Sadly I did the same thing. I thought maybe they would have done something similar to what AoC has done with their solo dungeons but the chronicle single man dungeon lasted about 10 minutes. I'm not sure how other people feel but I think Rift should have taken a page out of LotRO's playbook and put in a skirmish style system.

Holy shit, someone who realizes that an open beta is needed and does not restrict game sales to specific regions.

Way to go, ANET!

Exactly! The moment I told myself I won't buy SW TOR is when they banned my country from buying their game even digitally.

Now, about microtransactions, I'd say they go a bit beyond cosmetics only, since in GW1 you can buy more inventory slots for real cash, you can buy content (special missions for real $) and you can as well buy an ability for other characters on your account to follow you instead of npcs). If they keep all of these in GW2, I'll still play the game but if they add stuff like items for real cash, it'll be a no go...

The only one I'd quibble with them are the mercs. Otherwise, everything else doesn't give a power advantage, just convenience or cosmetic.

Can we get a mod clarification here if I am allowed to talk about the contents of the NDA please?

Or indeed if posters are allowed to say which beta group they are in (though I ahve seen a couple of folks already say which group they are in in threads tbh).

The official word from BioWare is you can say that you are in beta. That is it. No impressions, opinions, descriptions of materials, the NDA, none of it. I can't find the exact quote right now, but that is how they have put it. So we're basically sticking to that.

The Game Testing Agreement and You! | 06.24.2010 , 11:26 AM
Report Post

We have seen many questions about the Game Testing Agreement and we want to clarify a few things.
  1. Per the Game Testing Agreement, a user can state there is a Game Testing Program.
  2. Per the Game Testing Agreement, when someone is selected for testing, they can disclose the fact that they are a member of the Game Testing Program.
That is the extent of it and anything else would be a violation of the Game Testing Agreement. Users that are found to post or even repost confidential materials (such as invitations, Game Tester Portal, etc) will be permanently removed from the Game Testing Program and subject to discipline up to and including permanent removal from the service. This is not limited to screenshots of the game but taking "screen grabs" or sharing of confidential documentation and materials.

If you have any questions pertaining to this, ask them here.

http://www.swtor.com/community/showthread.php?t=156174

LOL I love number 1.  "A user can state there is a game testing program."  The fact that this is even there makes me think that beta must have been like Fight Club before that rule was implemented.

First rule of game testing, you don't talk about game testing.

end game, the end of the game?

If "end game" means perpetually looking for the new shiny so I can get that +1 stat on my gear, then no thank you.

I've been playing World of Warcraft and it's just SO GOOD! I just can't make out why it's so damn good though. Anyone have any ideas?

It's like heroin.

Also, it has many carrots, and you all are just horses.

I was just thinking about this the other day, can GW2 kill WoW. I guess not, thanks for setting us straight OP.

It doesnt bother me too much really.  I probably still havent sifted through all the stuff from the conventions anyways.

I think its going to be awhile.  And yes, that makes it hard.  Which is why I still really dont think developers should announce a game until its very close to ready.  In other words, I think the first thing any game developer should announce about their game is a release date.  Then release details about the game in a steady flow up until release.

This announcing a game years and years before it releases kind of bugs me.  And yes, it makes everyone impatient.

As AKAHappy said a few posts above, they only did this so that Guild Wars fans would know why they weren't getting any expansions anymore. Yeah it sucks if you are waiting for GW2 that long but they did the right thing in letting their GW fans know what's up.

I support MMO's w/out cash shops.  Sub or no sub.  Cosmetic cash shops are gravy, but I don't like the unfair advantage cash shops offer when they sell in-game weapons and such.  I don't play them.  It greed.  Thats all it is.

Some truth in that but I'd also say that a game that uses subs also is greed.

With that said, these companies are there to make money. Unless you run a non for profit organization your goal is to make more money than you expend.

The Switzerland of SWTOR game threads.

LOL.  I kid, I kid with you GW2 fanboys.  But in all honesty, they better have seriously stepped up their game from their GW1 development days because in my opinion that was a hot steaming pile of not so goodness.

I know right. 7 million copies sold, they must have done terrible things...

Well, I can personally guarantee that at most 6,999,999 of those purchases were from satisfied customers.  Hype is a helluva drug.  It sucked me in but never again.  I'm gonna make sure I play GW2 for at leat a full 7+ day free trial before they sucker me out of my money again.

Good for you. Guild Wars was never hyped so I'm not sure what you are on about. Anyway, there is no game that can please everyone. Sounds like GW2 won't for you.

Guild wars sold 6 million including the 3 expansions. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_best-selling_video_games  (4 games)

By your logic WoW sold 4x12= 48 million copies? So WoW is a better game than GW? Am i right internet?

If you don't want to believe wikipedia http://www.guildwars.com/events/press/releases/pressrelease-2009-04-24.php

Thanks bro, I wasn't asking for that info. Could care less.

You mentioned sales figure first, not me. You just put false information and i had to correct it for the fellow site users. Am i right internet?

Are you? Why does it matter to you? Is it your job? Why do you care so much?

I'm much more affraid that GW2 will ruin all other MMOs that follow the old paradigm for me, than I am at getting bored with GW2 and the new paradigm.

GW2 has pretty much already ruined all the old-formula games for me. I'm even having a difficult time logging in just to pass the time. On the positive side, I'm getting a lot of books read.

Pretty much this. Heh yeah I finally found time to catch up on the Wheel of Time series.  Now I just need to start reading the GW books so I am up to date on lore.

Good luck... I read the first of the GW2 books, it was absolutely horrible.  Weak writing, weak story.   Very dissapointing.

They are ok for gaming novels. Game novels in general are pretty poor. If you are expecting GRRM or Tolkein out of them then yeah, you will be disappointed.

You might want to consider playing a POM or TOS instead, no twitch mechanics for them.

Ranger is a good in between and might be perfect to get into the game again, they still have the combo system but a lessen version of it. Assasin might also be a good choice.

Barbarian is a fun class but if you want to be competetive you might want to make your second char barb instead of your first, you get into it after a while.

Good luck. :)

I disagree about the Assassin. A Barbarian would be a much better choice for a new player. A sin has the least amount of survivability of all the classes (but has the highest damage output), and for a new player that could be incredibly frustrating.
