Come on man, trying to suggest this is The Order 1886 all over again? By condemning a game where someone skips all the storyline (you know, half of the point of a freaking RPG) and trying to complete it was fast as possible and it taking them 25 hours? Should we condemn The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of time too? I mean I've seen people speed run and beat that game in like 5 minutes. So attention everyone, Nintendo was trying to charge us $60 for a 5 minute game! Who cares if you skip all the content, what matters is how fast someone can get from the beginning to end, ignoring what they can!

I think a large part of it is because WoW is the biggest MMO. By that I mean since it is the biggest MMO, you've had a slew of other MMOs referred to as "WoW Clones." People had enjoyed WoW for a time but after awhile they got bored with it and wanted to move to a new type of game. The problem is, as I mentioned before, WoW is the biggest MMO. Since as people have said, it made MMOs "Mainstream" it caught the attention of investors and other suits types, many I think had probably never touched a video game in their lives. So to them, WoW like games was where all the money was at, so they would invest in a company and tell them, make WoW with our own story. So people left WoW to these games and realized they were playing WoW again.

What I'm getting at here is people blame WoW for ruining the MMO genre. Before WoW you had games like Ultima Online which from what I hear(never played) was more PvP focused without factions. You had EverQuest which is now seen (at least from what I've read) as having a better community due to having to group and the slow leveling making alts less common. You had Dark Ages of Camelot which had 3 way faction PvP will lots a capture points.

WoW tried blending the most popular of these things while getting rid of the perceived problems. Like EverQuest, some raids were essentially "owned" by top tier guilds that would "accidently" train anyone who took "their" kills. Or camps which again, people would "accidently" train a group and steal a named camp. So Blizzard made instanced zones. Now you don't have to worry about having to fight with others to get that raid boss. If you can get to him, you're guaranteed to have a shot at killing him. Same deal with dungeons. Sometimes in DAoC, one faction (cough) Midgar (cough) would have a significantly larger population and have all the keeps/artifacts while Hibernia and Albion have squat. So instead objectives are in a nice instance where it doesn't effect anyone else but you can still get rewards.

People complained about these things before WoW came out while others didn't see it as a problem because there were solutions or the price was worth building a community. I kind of think as investors either decide to have developers try something new (which some have with varying success) or just lose interest in the genre and developers have to do more with less (as in making their game unique or stand out) the hate towards WoW will die down.

The last bit of my rant would be people having to really lower their standards on what is NOT a failure. It seems if I game doesn't "beat" WoW, as in getting 12 million subscribers, the game is a failure. As far as I remember, before WoW, EQ was the king of MMOs and I think its population topped out at around 500,000 players. If people keep their standards of success extremely high, no MMO will succeed and everything will be "dead" within months. Some games did flop and are failures, others having stable communities though.

Ugh just from this thread it seems Free 2 spend boatloads of cash err F2P MMOs and MOBAs are the future of "MMOs". Oh well, at least there are single player genres I enjoy.

If I didn't really care for Assassin Creed will I hate this? I just felt Assassins Creed was too repetitive and I didn't like the controls as far as how my character constantly grabbed onto things to climb that I didn't want him too making it very difficult sometimes to follow someone orfight properly.

Try looking at some gameplay videos, theres a 30 min one out from E3. It looks like its a mix of Assassins Creed in the climbing around, but the combat reminded me more of the Arkham series. Granted I could be wrong and its just Assassins Creed: Middle Earth edition which is why I think you ought to check out the video.

 Enough said?

You do realize you linked the single player game right? Not TOR but KOTOR. You know, the game released for the original XBox and such? A game that was and still seen as a great game?

Not a major fan of South Park, will watch it if its on, but won't go out of my way to see it.

That being said this game was really worth it to me. The gameplay was fun and the story entertaining. What really helps it is some of the epic music and the absurdity of what is going on. I mean you have music playing that you expect in a serious rpg for the final boss and you're fighting something so absurdly stupid its funny.

At least in my opinion I didn't run into any companion characters that were worthless like is often the case. My only issue is from a PC point of view was some button mashing bits were absurdly annoying to do. I know I'm not a master at button mashing but I still am pretty quick and often that didn't cut it. Nothing that got me angry, just annoyed,

If you hate themepark games and want them to die? Great! Just don't buy them. However, people continuing to buy em indicates that people  do sort of enjoy that gameplay. If a better format comes, then maybe it can be a big success. So far though they've all been mehish games.

If it came out after WoW, and has any features that WoW has, its a WoW clone. This includes leveling, crafting, having PvP. Therefor any MMO that has come out since WoW's release is a WoW clone.

If it has been updated, even to fix bugs, but has features WoW has, its a WoW clone. This means since EverQuest has had at least one update since WoW's release, its a WoW clone and stole its features such as leveling.

If it has features that WoW doesn't have, be WoW later adds those features, its a WoW clone and the game stole it from WoW.

Outside of video games, if any media has the same creatures or features and came out after WoW, it stole it from WoW. Since the Hobbit movies came out after WoW's release, J.R. Tolkien stole the idea of dwarfs from WoW.

WoW invented everything, including the Simpsons.

Screw min/maxers, they're the most boring people when it comes to character. I mean picking a race purely because it is the "best" which becomes the "required" race if you're a "serious" PvPer or Raider, etc just make the game so bland. It turns into every melee dps Dragonknight "MUST" be a Redgard or you're considered a bad player.

I think having racial traits is a good thing, because it means the race is more than just a different skin. I just see no point in picking a specific race because I want to play tank. If I want to be an Imperial Templar tank, the game has the mechanics for that. The min/max difference is very likely not going to make or break any dungeons/raids/PvP fights. Sure a min/maxer that has the exact same internet connection, skill level, but picked the "correct" race/class/role combo will win 1 v 1, but you almost never run into situtations like that.

I will never understand the need to rush through a game. I ended up over two Betas not even hitting cap, but just ended up exploring the map finding everything I could find. Honestly the people that plow to max level and complain about the game having no content seem similar to playing an RPG and skipping all the cutscenes and complaining the game had no story.
Already have it preordered. It looks like a worthwhile game to me. As for how long it will last me, dunno, will just have to wait and see.

So they are basicly confident enough to charge a box price (and not a budget one), a monthly sub and apply a cash shop on top of it -but at the same time they aren't confident enough to let people talk about their game or show anyone whats beyond the current level cap? Plus theyl want to lure people who are not allowed to inform themselves properly about the product into preordering and buy a cat in a sack?

If that is not enough to get your spider sense tingling, i have a bridge on the moon to sell -but aren't allowed to talk about it.

I know right? They should let us play to level cap as well as doing everything in between for a couple of months to prove it doesn't get old and reveal absolutely everything about the game. If they don't they obviously know that they just developed this game to steal everyones money with the box price! Seriously its a shame that there have been so many bad MMOs that people have become so paranoid and jaded that unless they know absolutely every single little detail about the game, that it is seen as a con.

The NDA I don't even understand it being equated to hiding anything. Whether it is lifted before late March or not, you're not forced to buy the game. Besides once head start begins, there is no way NDA can continue at that point. Honestly a lot of people just seem like chicken littles of conspiracy theorists. Heck single player games you don't get the amount of information that seems to be what people deem required before they purchase an MMO. Far Cry 3 I got about as much detail as you can find on the net with ESO, which was enough for me to put my money up and hope I liked it.

I'm torn between rolling an Imperial for the Ebonheart pact or a High Elf for the Aldmeri. If I could join a subfaction of the Thalmor than I would right away go with the High Elves. I always loved those evil elves looking to suppress everyone else. Though I also loved Morrowwind lol so its a hard choice.

Another stress test weekend?

Don't understand how they make it sound like you're being invited to something secret beta ,this is one of the worse beta experiences ever. All it is, is stress test weekends all while they have some other super secret grouping testing the full game.

It should say "STRESS TEST BETA INVITE" .... wish they would be open to who else is testing the game because what about the 17+ content?

You always get one buzz killer....

Hey now, gotta remember there always has to be the stop having fun guys poster

And how many of the people complaining were actually planning to play an Imperial? How many if announced from day 1 that Imperial was playable would be making one? Really I thought Imperial was only a semi popular race to begin with, more popular than Orcs, but less popular than Dunmar or Nord.

So. With NDA still in place, the first true info we have on the game is a declaration of greed. Pay 20 euro more, or be race-locked. Pre-order or be faction-locked. Have denied companies my support for a lot less.

Nobody requires that you pre-order today. You know that game doesn't release until April right?  So you have a long time to watch and decide once the NDA drops.

Take a deep breath.

That's what confuses me. They have given you the option to preorder, and yes NDA is still in effect. However, for those digital downloads, you have up until March 31st to preorder the game and still get the benefit of any faction for any race. Even after that you have the option for the Imperial edition I imagine. No one is forcing you to preorder the game now, nor is there a benefit or problem to preordering it now. If you think they're hiding something and just trying to get a quick cash grab by hiding behind NDA because they know the game is going to fail, than hold off on preordering till NDA is dropped and have proof. They aren't going to keep the NDA up till launch, and ever if they did, it would then be lifted at like March 27th, when the early access starts.

I think it is people either complaining to complain or have gotten screwed by one game that didn't do as well as they wanted so they assume all companies are greedy and out to rob them.

I honestly don't see much of a problem here. I mean you can pre-order a game and after people break NDA or after its lifted you hear something that turns you off from the game, you can always cancel the pre-order. As for having to get the collectors edition to play as an Imperial, doesn't that really just affect those that want to play an Imperial? I mean several people are far more interested in playing Dark Elves, Argonians, or even in the human department you have Red Guard, Nord and Bretons.

My biggest issue with all of this was I was kind of hoping to have each faction look distinct. But rather than racewise I was hoping more along the lines of DAoC where you have classes that almost mirror each other but each having a distinct difference.

Alright what I think would improve mmos.

As someone said, multiple options on where to level. So say levels 10-20, have some areas that are good for 10-15, some that are 10-20, some that are 15-20.

With this in mind, I want meaningful gear. If I get the (OMG 3STR 3STM Leather Belt!) I want it to be a viable item for awhile. So 10 levels, and that its an acceptable item for a bit after that. I would also like it so items weren't bind on equip or pickup for the most part or at all. This allows for more trade among players. Granted I think crafted gear should have some viablity too, or perhaps its a weaker alternative.

With that in mind, I would also want leveling to be slowed down, as well as not having all the content at the end. Now I don't want Aion level grindfest slowed down, though part of the problem with that was the lack of grouping. But frankly the speed at which people level makes 1-49/59/69/79 etc pointless. No one cares because all the good stuff is at the end. Which brings me to

Public dungeons and raids. Now first the bad things with this. In EQ there were guilds that pretty much "owned" a raid. You went in and "stole" their Inny kill, well first they would likely "accidently" train you or if they could assemble quick enough just flat out kill steal it. Using modern mechanics that probably means either training, resetting the mob, having someone keep tagging the mob till the guild that "owns" it can take it for themselves. It could also be a pain waiting on a "list" to get in a specific mob that dropped gear you wanted first, and then wait on a list to be up to get said loot after the other people got it.

Though the benefits were great too. The dungeons really were dungeons. It wasn't just run from one end of a pretty instance(since no doubt the developers do try to make it impressive). You had winding halls with dead ends, the hazards that came with public dungeons such as trains. The issue with getting gear also had benefits, even if they weren't ones that effected your character stats directly. In general once someone got his gear, he would inform the next person, wait for them to arrive, swap out, rinse/repeat. Since you were limited to your little hovel in the world, people tended to socialize to pass the time. This allowed you to get to know different players, which was pretty nice. Granted that can be boring sticking to one spot, maybe too time consuming for people with more real life obligations and the advent of vent might leave people just talking there instead of group chat.

But with the time spent towards this gear, again I would want it to last a long time, heck maybe longer than 10 levels in some cases.

I would also make travel take longer. I would want a sever limit to mounts, even your basic ground mount. If you're traveling to city A to city B, it should take at least half an hour, with considerable risk of wondering mobs depending on your level.(Thinking mostly people past moderate levels, such as 35 in a game with 50 as the cap would be able to move fairly safely. However DO include travel spells, like EQs Druid or Wizard spells.

Another would be aside from team PvP servers, could we do away with the two faction, three faction bit? I think rep/faction should be broken up to several groups, at risk of sounding like I want an EQ clone, I did like its faction system.

To cut off my rambling, the last bit I would like would be a sort of encouraged socialization. I think there should be food items in the game that give buffs, like many already do. However, I would like the standard eat n go food, while having good buffs, to 1. Have a shorter duration and 2. Not carry one through death. I would then want food that takes 15 minutes to fully activate plus needing to be in places like a tavern, but last, say 5 hours and through death. Maybe extra stat increases for listening to player musicans, kind of like SWG.

I would have more but this post is going on far too long hah.

Wait did he say the Plane of War was supposed to come out with Planes of Power and list it as a ways back? Didn't that xpac come out in like 2002?(Looks at Wikipedia) yeah that came out in 2002 which means.......there may be a dance studio in WoW yet, I mean the plane of war only took 11-12 years lol.

On another note, I really haven't been keeping up, but isn't Everquest Next Landmark pretty much just a Minecraft game? Like maybe the really cool designs get implemented into EverQuest Next proper? I know I heard something about blowing up the ground and finding hidden dungeons and such, was that Landmark or the actual MMO or both?

Lets see generic this game is garbage and will fail posts among other generic bitter gamer posts. Surprisingly a few critical posts that have a point, like crafting being a streach goal, which really ought to be in regardless.

Still would like to see McQuaid succeed in making an mmo again. EQ was great while Vanguard.....well for me my PC was too much of a POS to play it lol, forget why it did do so well though. Ideally with the number of people WoW brought into the mmo genre there will be people looking for a hard MMO, while others disperese to other MMOs of their liking. I doubt this would get nearly as big as WoW, nor does it need too. Heck 300k-500k would be where EQ peaked right? Even more would be great even if forums would be flooded with the word flop and fail if its anything short of 13 million.

Guess its wait and see. Personally I'm skeptical of the success of kickstarters in general, but I might pitch in something, just to see if something comes of the game.
