They are struggling to fix the store. Some months ago they had an issue where an update erased people's purchases and they tried to sweep that under the rug and not address it publically. I would personally not spend any money on ships if i were you because there's always a change on returning and not seeing your purchases available in the future.

This is not a new issue. Problems with the C-Store have been going on ever since they introduced it into the game.

See here and here.

Buyer beware with the C-Store. I encourage anyone buying anything from the C-Store take screen captures and whatever else they can do to keep proof of purchase. Cryptic/PWE refuses to provide any sort of confirmation or receipt system as proof of purchase. This is very intentional IMO.

Article for those interested in how the (IMO) now overly grindy Dilithium grind is about to get a whole lot more tedious and grindy ...

Yet another update to which I reply with a resounding "meh".

IMO STO is (still) fine for about a month played casually and without spending a dime on C-Store junk. It is not a long term MMO to invest any real time in.

It is most important to note that with Season 7, in game currency costs (eg. Dilithium) are being raised to prevent you from saving them to buy C-Store points.  The goal is to get you to spend real money for points by making it impossible to do things in a reasonable time frame.

Game is still a shallow and hollow experience that lacks any meaningful "Trek" experience beyond the cosmetics.

As you say I will take any excuse to "falsely accuse" Cryptic of ineptitude, you seem to take any opportunity to sweep aside any opinion of skeptical or negative nature. The criticism I have developed over the entire time from closed beta till now. I feel my skepticism is warranted, given the treatment of the IP as nothing more than an object to be monetized, and the game mechanics and content being shallow, broken, and lackluster.

If you think I am just blowing smoke here, then I suppose a great many members of the STO community, prominent members who got banned from the forums like The Grand Nagus, Jacob Flowers, Perigrin Falcon, and many others who have either left in disgust or have been banned, share either parts of my opinion or all of it.

So no, I am not "falsely accusing" Cryptic of anything. Anything I warn others against about this game is justified and warranted in my opinion and impressions. I am stating what I truly feel based off my own experience with the game, and from the words and discussions that STO players are having on STO's own forum boards.

I know what I look like. A hater. I actually don't hate the game. I heavily dislike the approach Cryptic is taking with the game, and how they are not expanding on the IP in any interesting or meaningful way. I don't think anyone could say that the story line in STO is unique or even interesting. Why use Lobi Crystals as ANOTHER currency for rare items when Cryptic was supposed to condense the currencies from, what, 12 or so different currencies? Why use dilithium as a trade currency? Its freaking rare and used to power ships. How does dilithium as a currency make sense at all when you have GPL?

So, SaunZ, please do yourself a favor and ignore the previous posters, as they have zero idea what they are talking about. They are obviously people who baselessly hate people who have different opinions other than themselves and will take any excuse to falsely accuse them of ineptitude.

100% this.  Cacaphony is spot on here.

As for the poll, nothing new.  The top 5 things haven't changed since the last poll. I love how the people want the Romulans , yet they can't even populate and fill out klingon content. Another Cryptic attempt to molify the masses. They are attempting to make it appear that the listen and actually care. Be assured, the future content will be half-assed as the rest of the prior content was. The only saving grace of this game is the gimped foundry. I miss the days when f2p meant the code was opened to the community and they would make the mods and content to extend the life of a game. This stuff is crap.

I agree. It is fairly evident that episodic content is not going to get any further attention, so adding a new facttion that would require episodic content is a pipe dream. I logged in a bit this past weekend and found there are new lockboxes, new grindfests (for fleet advancement) and little of anything else except more C-Store junk.

Update, so out of the three ships i purchased, they foudn a receipt for only one.

And now you know why Cryptic refuses to send out any kind of confirmation email when Cryptic Points / Zen are spent and on what from the C-Store. It is much easier for them to claim "we can't find a receipt, sorry" and just keep ripping people off.

You can explore the world of crooked Chinese RMT lockbox gambling tho... Since that is about the only new thing to go into STO in the last year... Even "free", this game is a rip-off...

No, its not a straight up lie because there is no true exploration going on. How is going to the Delta Volanis, or any "exploration sector" to be given scan 5, kill 5, or give provisions to the aliens that just happen to know you are Starfleet missions, exploration? You cannot chart the sector, you cannot see a planet and scan it,you cannot go to it and beam down, you cannot do anything that really speaks to exploration. You fly around in a dark box looking for a "unknown system" where the inhabitants of that system know exactly who you are. So, I think Vuk had it right. You cannot explore. You can only play the minimal, bare bones static "genesis" content that cryptic inserted into those systems and never seems to change or improve much, if at all.

What they said.

If you understood it just fine, then why did you intentionally leave out the important parts of my post in your response?

Because it was not really relevant to the point.

Also, if it is as common as you claim it to be, how come nobody ever mentions it on the forums? This might possibly the first time I ever saw anyone complaining about the load screens being too long (not including glitched load screens that never go away, as those are due to a bug and don't count).

You never hearing about it does not mean it has never been discussed ad nauseum elsewhere. I have been playing City of Heroes since it launched and STO since BETA. The excessive load screens have been brought up numerous times on the forums for both games over the years. Also, someone mentioned them being annoying here in this very thread, so "nobody ever mentioning them" is not correct. Also, all it takes is a simple Google search to find information about the subject. Here is an article that discusses loading screens being a "deal breaker" when buying an MMO. You will note this article specifically mentions STO as having "heavily loaded" use of load screens. Google is your friend. I am sure you can find thousands more like this one on your own.

Also, to some the length of the load time is not as bad as the amount of load screens. The Cryptic engine uses load screens very heavily. That is generally the complaint. Again, google the research.

Um, you obviously do not understand the point of this post.  Skyrim runs on one of the most powerful game engines in existence (it needs to be in

I understood it just fine. Perhaps you might want to go back through the thread again.

A common nitpick/rant/complaint regarding the Cryptic engine is (and has been since the launch of City of Heroes) the overly extensive use of loading screens. Whether it be travelling from one section of Paragon City in CoH or warping from Sector to Sector in STO, there are an excessive amount of load screens in comparison to other MMOs (such as WoW).

Yes, load screens are a universal aspect of MMOs. However, the extent they are required in a game makes a big difference to some.

By that logic, the technology that powers open world games like Skyrim is also limited due to it requiring loading screens.

Yes, that is correct.

Load screens are actually not that bad.  If you have a low end computer, then it might be a problem, but that is mroe the fault of your computer and not the game.

Correction, it is more a limitation of the Cryptic game engine to require load screens rather than using an expansive vritual world environment.

True true, but still, it is proof that Cryptic has not given up on the Klingons entirely (if they had, then the Klingons wouldn't be getting any content, not even shared content).  Actually, the fact that they went and designed their own Klingon space suit from scracth (as far as I know there is no canon description of a Klingon space suit) kinda disproves your entire argument.

Actually, it is not proof of that at all. It is merely that Klingons are getting things the Federation gets by proxy. That "content" would still be put in the game even if there were no Klingon faction.

It is not faction specific content, meaning episodic story content that is made specifically for Klingons. That is what the complaint has been since pre-launch. Again, read the link posted.

Its not exactly what people want, but its better than nothing, right?

Were you the owner of your own business, would you use this as your mission statement or advertising slogan when trying to sell your product?

Not exactly a ringing endorsement.

And yet, Klingons have access to all the content found in Season 6, including the Fleet Advancement System, as well as the ability to build full starbases, just like the Feds.

None of which is faction specific to the Klingons.

Originally posted by Rohn   The KDF still needs more faction-specific content to be sure, but Cryptic has been concentrating their resources on creating content that everyone can use.

You just made the point for me. Adding content that everyone can use is not well developed and fleshed out faction specific content, which is what has been promised since before launch. Some folks are still wondering when it will happen. See the link I posted.

Failure to mention Klingons does not mean that they have given up on them.  MMO developers and game developers in general are known to be cryptic (pardon the pun), and lack of mentioning the Klingons is not a sign of anything.

History of the KDF in STO.

Believe it. Cryptic has given up on fleshing out the KDF as their own fully developed faction. The statement that Developer made story content is set aside in favor of more and more lockboxes and C-Store junk is correct.

No amount of cheerleading and wishful thinking is going to change that.

I encourage you to pursue this Cryptic/PWE.  I have had similar issues (note the plural) with the C-Store in the past ( .

Ultimately, I took my complaint to the Better Business Bureau and the case was resolved to my satisfaction.   Leaving it up to Cryptic/PWE will get you nowhere.

I mean you get some foundry access for no additional cost as a free player.

If Cryptic/PWE did not offer foundry access to free players, those free players would run out of content very quickly. They have been already. This is nothing new and has been a complaint about the game for quite some time now.

I have not ignored evidence, you have not given it.

Again, yes, I have.

"If the price of some cash shop item is x, do you think it is easier to buy it with money or grind dilithium?"

Therein lies the point myself and others have been trying to get across to you. Unfortunately, you are trying to compare apples to oranges. No one disputes that you can grind out dilithium to buy items in the C-Store. The point I have been making (repeatedly) is that the amount of time required to grind enough to buy some items in the store is purposefully designed to be overtly time consuming. Again, Cryptic/PWE does this purposefully as to get you to spend the real cash instead of grinding.

These are not evidence, just loaded questions that are designed to make either make either you seem correct or make the replier seem like an idiot with no middle ground.

How long it takes to grind out an item vs. buying it outright is a no brainer. I do not need "evidence" beyond simple math. Use my example from my previous post. I say it takes less time to spend real cash and buy 4,000 Cryptic points/Zen to buy the Odyssey Pack than it would to grind the equivilent amount of Dilithium in game and get the ship for free. I challenge you to prove this wrong. Start from zero dilithium and grind out enough to convert to 4,000 CP (remember, 1 dilithium does not equal 1 CP) and let us know how long it takes you. My way gives me the ship immediately. Your way will take weeks, if not longer depending on playtime. Prove that wrong.

I need evidence, as in PROOF that Cryptic would prefer people to buy stuff in the cash shop rather than use the Dilithium store.

Wow, for real? Put yourself in their shoes for a moment. As a business in the business of making money, Which would you prefer? Your customers spending months not spending any money in your store and grinding dilithium to get all your store items for free, thereby making you no income vs. customers spending cash right now to buy the items in your store and you making income?

No brainer.

I am sorry that you can't see why he is wrong, but he is.  He hasn't given a shred of evidence to back his claim.

Yes, I have. You have just chosen to ignore it and/or keep missing the point overall.

As another example for you... let us say you want to buy the Odyssey pack in the C-Store for 4,000 CP. What will take less time to unlock this pack?

1. Grinding dilithium (which has a daily cap), then converting the dilithium to CP and buying the ship, then rinse/repeat for your next character?

2. Plunking down the cash for 5,000 CP or more and buying it right now with no wait?

Which method do you believe Cryptic wants you to use given STO is a F2P game and the cash shop is what is making the money for them?
