Originally posted by Rifle123 No, not totally rely on UGC. However, if you follow the posts/interviews with Dan Stahl and Gozer on the official forums, it is pretty clear they are going to rely on it heavily. Gozer had made several posts regarding UGC "filling the content gaps" and even perhaps replacing patrol missions.

City of Heroes Review After i20!!!!!
Paragon City Hall (General) « City of Heroes 4/18/11 2:17:17 PM
Originally posted by Leethe I have been thinking the same. I stopped playing after BETA testing the GR expansion and being utterly disappointed with the Incarnate system.
I might give it another go for a month or two to see if I will enjoy it all over again. |

Do Cryptic ever give free re activations?
General Discussion « Star Trek Online 4/18/11 2:13:12 PM
IIRC there was a re-activation weekend at the 1 year anniversary in February? I am not 100% sure though, although I thought I remembered reading about it. |

Originally posted by Zolgar I don't recall reading in the rules/regs for this site that we are only supposed to post wonderful, glowing recommendations for a game?
I am allowed to post my opinion. |

Originally posted by Zolgar I wouldn't call STO a MMO at all. It is clearly a Single Player game with very little team oriented content sprinkled in. |

Star Trek Online: Engineering Report Arrives
News & Features Discussion « General Discussion 4/18/11 1:43:21 PM
All one need do is look at the Mission Architect from CoX to see where this is going. Cryptic releases "Play 10 Foundry missions for XP" content People create "Kill 1 level 1 NPC to complete" missions. Easy XP farming.
A big boost to Klingon players would be for Cryptic to develop KDF faction specific content to flesh them out and make them unique. |

250 missions published WEEKS after the Foundry is launched. For a company that loves to profess "well over 100,000" subs, 250 published missions is a joke.
You are kidding yourself if you believe otherwise. |

The best thing that could happen to this IP is that Atari sells it to another game developer who actually cares about it. All one need do is follow the Dev Digests (Engineering Reports) on the official forums to see the direction the game is going in. So long as Atari is raking in the cash from the IMO overpriced STO, they will not allow Cryptic to hire more people. The latest interviews with EP Dan Stahl discuss how they are "looking at 'classic' Fed episodes to rework them into Klingon content". That is not fleshing out the KDF Faction into its own, unique faction. That is regurgitating existing crap content that players already did before. Cryptic could not release a Featured Episode without bugs when they had months to work on and test them. There is no way they will be able to release 1 a week. It is wishful thinking on their part. All that is is a hope to trickle an hours worth of content each month in the hopes that people will be dumb enough to pay $15 for an hours worth of content each month. Yes, it may seem like "more than what others do", just keep in mind... Blizzard releases expansions that have a whole lot more content in them than just a few new quests. A year out there is still no endgame content to speak of. If you follow Gozer's posts on the STO forums, they will not add any more STFs either unless more people start playing the existing, bug ridden snorefests of a tedious grind STFs they have now. He (and Stahl) have also posted how they will most likely NOT be making any new "patrol" content since they are hoping the Foundry will "fill in the content gaps". Speaking of the Foundry, it took less than a day to get it totally polluted with thousands of accolade farm missions. It will ultimately not be much different than CoX in that the decent missions will be the exception and not the rule. For every decent quality player created mission, there will be thousands of crap ones. This whole "remastering" of content is rubbish as well. The game needs NEW things, not a redo of the tired old content that most everyone has played already several times.
As I said, the best thing that could happen to this IP is that Atari sells it to another game developer who actually cares about it.
