And you get Tomes of Soldiery through dungeons and raids?

Yes, you can also get them from beastmen dailies and the hunt.

If you get the weathered gear through tomes of soldiery (i100). You can then upgrade it by getting 250 seals from hunts and buy a a blood spattered mark log. You will need 3 books to get a sand of time for armor and 2 for an oil of time for accessories. You will trade the book for sands/oils in mor dhona. It will boost them to i110. Remember to do it you must trade the sand/oil and peace of gear to the the smithies apprentice in north shroud.

I'm glad the game has done well for those who like it. If it still has the FATE system I'm not going back. To me it just felt like a way to fill in a bunch of content that should have been developed in the first place. Other than that I loved the music, graphics and the environment, but I felt slighted. That's just me though!

Good luck to you FF nerds! :)

Thank you sir and good luck to you. :)

XIV is great while it last but there is a major wall you hit.

XIV's issues are

1) No horizontal content

2) No guild related content

3) No true allaince content. (The allaince content is 3 8-man partys, cannot even que up as a full group)

4) Extremly linear in everything (Gear, content, leveling)

5) Small world (Well desiged, but probally the smallest  AAA mmo world out there currently)

6) Short lived content. It is negated every 3-6 months.

7) Purposly designed meaningless crafting systems. Gear is entree level endgame... the gear above the best crafted gear is actully easier to get then the crafted gear.

8) No uniqueness in anything. (No skill tree, no choice, all jobs deal the same dps, no specilization, no weaknesses on mobs.)

9) Everything is ultra scripted. (Example. Boss mob will use this ability every 20secs on the dot).

If you start new you will have absurd amounts of content, but like all themepark games. There is the 1 raid that drops all the BIS stuff. Once you get to it... that is all youhave left. If you play this game more then 20hrs a week... you will end up being bored or have only coils (1 instanced boss fight - not even raid although they call it that) to do. Currently if your static party is good enough. You can do all the relevant content in 5hrs every week.

It is most likly because I grew up with XI and EQ. XIV is just horribly shallow. My friend who quit said it best. FFXIV is an arcade game you put in a quarter play it for alittle while then leave and come back later.  It is all about quick burst of fun. Making sure everyone is equal. And making sure guilds have no advantages over people not in guilds.

I thought WoW was crap for over 7yrs playing XI. XIV is a hell of alot more shallow then WoW, it just has better graphics and animations.

For those who have limited time, like lowman/solo content, and like WoW. XIV might be just what you are looking for. Nearly 1million people playing the game now love it. I do not understand how, but they do.

XIV is an advancement is casual and instance content, combat, boss mechanics, graphics, and animation compaired to XI. but everything else this game fail horribly when you compair it to XI. The world, the teamwork, the economy, the longevity of content, the uniqueness of jobs, openworld, the multiplayer content.. They are in a different league in XI compaired to XIV.

Then again the XI comments above are my opinions, and only apply to the pre-abysea XI. It is a steaming heap of garbage now. In the end. If you love WoW, but want something new. And you are not a fan of action combat. I highly recommend trying FFXIV. It is probably the best WoW clone on the market.

Yup XI can do no wrong, loved XI but it had just as many cons as any other game.

----

They create a new set of items which is the same as the last just +3 attributes. Remove old tokens and create new ones. Make old content uncapped and cap new content to one drop per week, one try a day or x amount of points per week

I pay for a sub - i want to do whatever the game has to offer whenever i want, not once a week or once a day or every 56 hours.

----

The game is beautiful and the story is fantastic but the content walls are complete bullshit.

Well then wouldn't that make every thing to easy to get. Make it where there are no lock outs or hurdles and people would blow through content in any MMO. Also to be fair they have only taken away one token and that was philosophy.

If you have to restrict peoples playtime to make things hard to get you are doing something wrong. Content should be hard but not restrict how and when people play. That is just bad game design.

----

They removed philosophy and added 6 new tokens just to create 6 new content walls. Solder, Mythology, Rowana's tokens, Allaghan Tombstones, sands and oil of time. It's ridiculous and completely unnecessary.

Every MMO that I have played had walls and hurdles to get to content or gear no MMO can supply enough content to appease everyone. Such walls are up and some people are still through with it in a short period of time and complaining on the XIV forums.

Last time I played, it was a huge grind when leveling your secondary class, with an emphasis on having to grind leves and dynamic events as the quest system was only able to level your primary class.  Is this still the case?

Nope the dungeons give a lot more xp and gil now there are also beastmen dailies at lvl 42. Also guildhests bonuses now reset when you start a different class.

The moment I heard my character grunt while attacking, etc, I knew this will be another copy.

Yeah, I guess that games like Age of Conan, Eve and The Secret World were created for more mature audience. This is getting ridiculous.

The only good asian MMORPG was Lineage 2 and to some extent, FFXI. The rest is a joke. I'm not even sure why are people who make these games called developers, because they sure do not develop. They are stuck in time.

I was talking to some friends last night about the state of  mmo's these days. It just seems like all these new games coming out are crap and people thinking these games are good is testament on the genre just being bad now. Wildstar and ESO are really not that great if you really think about it. But they are new shinies and are both already losing traction with players and neither have been out 5 months. Yeah some say the mmo is evolving. They sure aren't evolving in the right diection if they can't hold players for at least a year. The reason players move from game to game is they suck. Not one of these new games have come close to the subs. wow has and never will because they just aren't that good. I bet when wod xpack comes out you will see Wildstar and ESO sub. numbers drop by alot. The same thing happened to GW2 when mist came out.  Can anyone really say they will be playing Wildstar and ESO both 15 a month sub games a year from now. I look at video's of Wildstar gameplay and just laugh at how flashy and silly it looks. I could never pay monthly for that.

It seems like you think the only newer game that is worth a sub is WoW. That is your opinion and that is fine but out of the millions playing WoW there are millions that aren't. You seem pretty pompous with your assessments of what other people play. Oh and whats with the underlined, I'm sure there are people that do are they beneath you or something. geez

It's terrible

So your defense of "It's not a WoW clone!" is to show off pictures of a handful of players?
Yup. And it IS a WoW clone. But I don't see how standards have hit an all time lo.
Because we're praising games that do nothing new, nothing interesting, and rely on gameplay gimmicks that are poorly designed and outdated?

Then explain why the game is doing so well. Why I keep reading thread after thread of praises for this game. Why does this game have more content than say SWTOR.

Because it was under construction for like, 7 years?

Why is it doing so well? Well, it's already bleeding players like crazy, and it DID well because it was a SECOND launch, so they had 2 years to polish it (and remove all the interesting content). It also has no real competition at the time, good brand recognition, AND the asian market to keep it afloat.

LOL, proof please on the underlined. No it was 2 years completely remaking the game and the only content that was removed was NM's and the original story that's it really. Also there are many new and old games that they have to compete with so whatever you say on that one.

Well they never claimed to be doing anything ground breaking however it does do some things that most other games don't like all classes on one character and crafting has real classes with their own skills and lvls. Also the underlined is pure opinion and not everyones obviously.

To anyone who has played FFXI ,they would realize Square does not take your money and run, they are imo the best developer for creating an ongoing content riddled game.

Now weather or not you like that content is a whole different story.Square got FFXI content right until Abyssea "that was horrible" and since has been hit n miss with still some really cool ideas.

As for FFXIV content it is always going to not matter to me because the CORE fo any game is it's combat /spells/class design. It was like they took FFXI and dissected it into very small portions in order to RUSH out a design that resembled FFXI.It is because of that original rushed design the game systems will always be feint ant not nearly as good as FFXI was.I expected this game to be better and more in depth than FFXI but is far from it.

Basically without getting into long winded design talk Square has gone the route of Blizzard. That is to make the game a sort of meaningless grind through levels until you can repeat grind the same instance over and over. That is another thing ,the Boss fights are enclosed small circles imo far worse than any instance and really ruins immersion and just the entire feel of a game for me.

This new regime is every bit FF structured in their commitment but the ideals of gaming are long gone with Tanaka and a few other of the vets.I no longer expect innovation from Square but more so the same old same old with a FF skin.

I can agree that more horizontal progression for the game is needed. However XI had meaningless grind just as much if not worse than XIV does. Also the depth you speak of was cool but also aloud for a lot balance issues with the game. For instance a lot of classes were left out of parties because of balance issues (lol dragoon and beastmaster). Red mage could defeat genbu all by themselves when other classes couldn't. Black mage burn parties, and Dark knight/Thiefs burn parties with cracken clubs could defeat anything.

Also I don't know if you remember or not but in XI burning circle NM's were in arena's as well and there were a ton of them. I can understand if you like XI better but it had it's own issues and these I mentioned were just a few. Don't get me wrong I loved my 5 plus years in XI and i'm not bashing it just to bash it. I have really enjoyed my time in both games and they both have their own pro's and con's.

I don' know. When I played it there was like a half of a second pause between between mashing keys and buttons due to the global cool down. So boring. I'll stick with Tekken. Sometimes when my party was fighting monsters to get exp we would have to stop for 30 seconds. That's SO inefficient. Another inconvenience was having to wait on people to walk back to the party after they died. So obviously the monsters are too hard.

UUUMMMmmmmm duh. Have you ever played an mmo? And you GCD goes down. Mine is 1 second. Soon I'll have it at .5 seconds. But you would know that if you really played.

And fyi, every mmo, when you die in the dungeon, you have to run back. Good thing FF XIV ARR put in the shortcut to get back to your party faster. But you played the game and knew that right? Or are you just trying to pick fights?

My entire post was sarcastic. I thought it was dripping with sarcasm.

In reality, my views are that the cool downs should be longer, when you die there should be consequences, and monsters should be harder.

Yes, yes Magiknight it should have been like XI just like you have posted here a lot of times before.

Every patch they see a little population spike where a few players resub to check out the new content and about a week later they quit and cancel their subs for the next few months. This game had a few fun encounters that got old really quick.

Oh now you can buy item level 95 equipment in the auction house, now you can buy gil and be raid geared. I'm so glad they gave us this free weekend so I could talk myself out of resubscribing.

So what your saying is crafters should not be able to craft anything close to endgame gear? Ok if they did that there would be a large chunk of people leave the game. Crafting has to have some worth too you know.

I'm looking forward to seeing some of the improvements they've made in the game. I'm sure that's what this weekend is about, showcasing the game in its' current state.

That being said I'm more than likely going to be disappointed.

Well I'll see you guys when this game goes f2p in the fall!

Lol, yeah you just keep waiting for that LOL what a joke.

One of my friends introduce me a new game  which name is The league of angels. So I started playing the game and I am just amazed at how awesome it is. I love the graphical interface and I find the world beautiful. I am way more impressed with the graphics of this game compared to other recent MMORPG.

However, what pleasantly surprised me was how much there is to do in this game. There are story quests, random side quests, class quests (I missed those so much from previous MMOs) and all these different types of logs with stuff to do - class logs, crafting/gathering logs etc.

The class system is just pure awesomeness! You can level up every class/profession/gathering profession on one character. Why other MMOs don't do this is beyond me. It's just too cool. It gives you tons of stuff to do if you want mix things up.

Of course, I am not sure what the endgame will be like but I don't really care. I usually leave shortly after doing the regular dungeons/levelling thing. Although this game has some endgame stuff which sound really interesting but time will tell.

Nice troll, go back under your bridge.

I guess your point of posting this here is that XIV isn't on the list not that it matters. >.>

XIV started in basically the last quarter of 2013.
