I was excited to start Wakfu, so once it came out I played very soon after. Built one of the 'time' characters and seemed ok in the beginning. I quickly saw how this would become another grind after learning my first 'professions'.

You go around battling and shaving animals for skins or whatever repeatedly, which isn't so bad if it were fun, but it's not. The battles are interesting up until you get the hang of it, then it just becomes a repetitive process that is not very enjoyable (to me), same for crafts. After you leave the beginner's area, you start to get a little lost and wonder if there's more to it than what you're seeing. I roamed around for quite a while looking for the 'next part of the story', but could not find it. I'm sorry, the game seemed to have a cool 'anime-ish' feel to it (I did hear about it during Anime Expo after all), but it just doesn't follow through.

Am I missing something?

It's funny you mention this. I've never been an 'EVE Player', more an 'EVE Tutorial Player'.

I always play this game for a week or week and a half (Maybe 2 at the most), yet I always feel like I missed out on something because I see how much people like this game. Don't know if I really do like the game or not, I feel like the appeal comes more from knowing it's a more 'mature' game, and that it has good ratings so I keep giving it a go, but everytime I play it goes something like this:

1) join a corp after first couple days (once I got into a really good one, and I still didn't last)

2) Decide to be a fighter, miner, mission runner, etc.

3) Do that for a couple days and slowly start to feel tired of the repetitiveness of it.

How do people stay hooked to this game? If I'm missing something, I'd truly like to know

Hi OP (opening post),

I have to know.. did you jump right into multiplayer? Or did you play single player mode?

I found that Single player mode was just awesome. I loved the story and movie scenes.

Multiplayer gets fun but it will get tiresome if you're just getting beat all the time (as I was). Starcraft 2 takes a lot of dedication people don't have time to commit. This may include watching pro videos, reading up on strategies, testing build orders, and more.

The reward are oh so sweet, though!

Found a good http://www.defianceuo.com/forums/showthread.php?p=1066663882 template list!

Hey guys im back into trying UO and im liking it (I can see how a new player wont since at first the game will look funky, but having played it when it was a newer and more popular game I know it becomes a lot more fun and its even fun right now!)

I have a few questions now that I'm back if anyone could help me I'd appreciate it:

1) Is UO Stratics still considered the best UO strategy site, or is there something newer and better?

2) I've been looking for character build suggestions, specifically for a samurai "right now," but UO Stratics didn't have a samurai build, only thing i found was the "advanced template" for the samurai but is there any site that lists lots of character build suggestions I can perhaps choose from?

3) When I played UO way back when I just had the basic game, if I wanted to play now would I have to purchase the plethora of expansions to be up to date?

Thanks in advance!

Thanks,

Do they still have "Come back and play UO" free trials going on?

Hey everyone,

I have an old account for UO from when I was a kid, not too long ago I went to try it out again but the place was so empty so before I try going back again,

Are there any active shards right now?

What wild dog stuff? I don't know what this is about, try the game for yourselves and give it time, I mean I've always been a proponent for the idea that every game is good if you give it enough time, but in the end people want "quick to get into" games. A lot of those who love playing NexusTK do so because they've been playing it since way back when.

I, personally, would not touch this game.  Usually, I am not one to judge games, on graphics, but I don't think that I would pay 10 dollars for this...

Opinions?

Unfortunately today people judge games based on graphics. Im glad you were straightforward with your first impression but I hope others can give you another side to the story. Those of us who grew up (11-12 years old) when these games were first coming out see them in a completely different light. For example, I may have quit this game 10 times or more over 10+ years yet it still ends up coming to mind.

The thing about this game is the sense of community. I've been playing lots of games but I cannot get that same sense of being part of a community because everyone seems to be off doing their own thing. Maybe it has to do with the fact that is difficult to hunt alone so you end up getting to know lots of different people (though HAVING to hunt with a group sucks sometimes, this would be an upside to it)

This is the kind of game where you can't walk around in a certain area without feeling weird if you don't say something to people you see. It is a "player run" game but don't get the wrong impression of this. Though players run community events/etc which is pretty neat, and even take part in events sponsored by Kru (or Nexon as it was), if you try to do something like start a new clan and actually get Kru to make you a guild hall that you can actually see IN GAME, it does take a lot of time and effort so don't think it's like Ultima Online where you just buy a house deed, place it on an empty spot and call it a day.

Maybe it's just because I grew up playing this game, but ever since playing it I've found it very hard to play other games (I mean I've gotten into games like Lineage 2, WoW, Aion, EVE online, ultima online, etc, etc) but in the end I get more of a "at home" feeling with Nexus though it has a lot of corruption I would like to see corrected.

It use to have a nicer feel of role-playing as well but slowly people are drifting away from that, and I miss it to be honest, gives the game a little extra "zest."

In the end, though, to everyone their own =)

I'll try to stay non-biased about this, because everyone has their personal preference, you will rarely find two people with the EXACT same likings in games and aspects of games.

I played this game over 10 years ago in Beta and every year it seemed like I went back to it. What lures you into this game is not the graphics but the community. At the time the community seemed a little more mature than they are now.

The best way I can describe the feeling of this game is the "small town," everyone knows each other (and back then there might have even been more players than now which now there will be maybe 600 people logged on at the same time back then ive seen upwards of 800 maybe even a 1000 if i remember correctly)

Every game, if you are open minded about it, provides entertainment, I think, at least after some period of time of getting into it. This is why some people are attracted to games played over a web browser with hardly any graphics compared to a 3d game where everything is visual candy.

I can't say much about the game now since I don't play it much but the graphics have changed somewhat, they seem to have more of that "anime-ish" style to them.

Hunting is probably the biggest part of this game (or maybe carnages I should say). Once you hit level 99 its a race for stats. You hunt hunt hunt (not so many quests) for exp to sell for stats, health, vita, etc.

Carnages are the biggest PvP in the game. You will battle within an arena and it is surprisingly fun (I think). In fact some people registered just to participate in carnages.

There are also crafts like weaving/gem cutting/ woodworking/etc. Its kind of a grind in a way I think but the best thing is to try it for youself. There is a free trial up to level 49 now so I think you can get a lot of the game in the problem is that you have to experience it all within a tutorial area rather than the outside worl like it use to be (when it only went up to level 11).

Everyone has their own perspective but here's what I saw when I started playing..

I played this when it was "Space Cowboy" by a company called gPotato I believe. At first I was so happy, it was really fun being able to fly a ship in first person and control it rather than click around moving your ship.

You do missions, etc and I think you can train skills and whatnot. I wish I could tell you more but I can't remember exactly why I started getting bored, I guess i never tried the PvP and got tired of doing missions. You can also land at a station and buy things, anyway best thing is to try it or read more about the game haha =)

I think the other version (as opposed to Global) is this one (Korean version?)

http://goonzu.ndoors.com/

if you like to play the game, go ahead and play! Who cares what other people think right? This way you bring true friends closer and you push failed relationships away from the start haha =P

Maybe its just because I grew up playing NexusTK but sometimes I prefer playing a game like this than to a "pretty" game with lack of gameplay (for example I loved Lineage 2 for the graphics but to ME it lacked gameplay, no offense to anyone else, everyone has their own preference or else we'd all be playing one game right -_^?)

Anyway I know I use to be a little self conscious about these things but in reality its better to do what makes you happy, you find more interesting friends and you don't have to worry about yourself when you're with those people who you got to be your 'friends' by hiding everything you truly liked =P

Anyway sorry for the psychology session, I guess I could relate to your problem a while back but I've known a couple people who always quit games they use to love to play because they say it was too 'carebear'

Open your mind and almost anything can be fun right? =P lol

I've recently started playing the EVE Trial (for the 3rd or 4th time ive tried the trial in a year or two).

I started the trial because I was so completely bored I started looking through MMORPG.com's top gamelist and EVE caught my eye, and I thought, "maybe this time I'll join a corporation, everyone says thats where the fun is, I can't say anything bad about the game if I haven't experienced being part of a corp first."

So I went in not too excited, but actually once I started playing the game I was getting excited about it again. After the tutorial, first thing I did was get someone to invite me to the recruitment channel and from there I ended up in a neat corp called Ser3nity. I have to admit things were getting somewhat exciting now, I had a friendly corp who gave new members access to useful parts of their hangar. Now there were times I started getting bored again and then something would happen like i'd get a new weapon to try out I thought would make the game much more fun and I got excited again. Now at this point, after 7 days, let me list some of the aspects of the game (opinion is a dangerous thing, I'll try to stay more on facts of what the game is like and let the viewer decide if it is really for them or not).

- In this game long travel times are imminent. Especially with bigger,  better ships, your speed will get slower (which you can try and curb by using afterburners but only to a certain degree). I'm talking about traveling from a station to another station 10 minutes away to pick up an item that was not available anywhere closer. (Notice I'm not saying that I favor/ do not favor this because an opinion only gets replied to with more opinions usually and I just hope to list what I've seen and then people, because they are all DIFFERENT, can make their own personal choice as to whether they would like to try the game out or not).

- The economy of this game is huge. Players have  quite the power in deciding where prices lie, and EVE has a system that tells you whether you are buying higher/lower than the average price of a region (a piece of the whole pie). There are tons of items to experiment with and no 'one' item is considered the best. You will not really see an item that has a rating (ie. 7/10) because no 'one' item is considered good against everything, for different missions there will be different types of ammo you will find more useful, etc.

- Lots of tutorials in this game. You can always click on help later and the tutorial lady will come up and explain a different aspect of the game. There is definitely a lot to learn about this game and many tutorials are provided in an effort to provide knowledge. Also many websites out there help out along the way too and applications.

-Learning a skill takes quite some time. In the beginning you will find it to be less than an hour but as you get closer to the max level of a skill (5) you may be talking days or weeks to finish learning a skill. Working oin your "Learning" skills reduces this time but it is inevitable that you will run into a skill that takes a long time to learn.

- Combat.. In combat you will need to know how far your guns reach, what type of damage the gun deals (or missles/weapon in general), it will also be helpful to know what type of ship your up against because some ships you just need to approach, others if you are more tactical you will orbit because how fast a gun tracks you also comes into factor and if you are a fast little ship and youre fighting something big and youre orbiting it (flying around it quickly) you may decrease damage dealt to you.

There's plenty more about this game, but if you want to experience the game before judging it, joining a corp is very important. I must say that the maturity level of this game tends to be better because many players I've run into, at least, have been in their young 30's or so and tend to be less "childish."

That is all I can think of for now. At this point it is a person's personal preference. There are 2d games many people would enjoy more than the highest quality games out there today and when it comes down to it, if you're willing to open your mind to anything it can be fun, and as humans we tend to look for what strikes our fancy right away and can keep us interested.

Take care.

This game brings the independence of a 1-player console RPG to the MMO world. I am about level 10 now in the closed beta and I still feel like I can play this game on and on. At first I felt like it might get reptitive quickly with the same attacks and whatnot but with all the upgrades to your weapons, armors, and different ways of crafting, this game will keep you busy for quite a while (and staying busy, isn't that what games are for?)

Besides that, from what I see you can join guilds and guilds can run certain towns (I havent looked into this but it seems like they can set their own rates perhaps and collect money from what is bought?)

Overall, pretty cool game, especially if you hate hunting for a group all the time.
