LoL, this made me laugh... I was about to sit down tonight and do just the same thing, review the SWG Trial i just tried... Mine would have probably been a little more verbose (hell, i like to hear myself talk :P), but the core view would have been the same as the OP's. Oh yeah... as well as the red boxes, did you notice that some NPC's when talked too, replied with an error message rather than a quest or conversation? If this trial is truly supposed to help re-birth SWG it failed miserably. I played SWG pre and post CU, and wasnt that thrilled then either, but the quality of this trial, especially coming from an MMO 'Giant' and off the back of the most successful IP since God was a boy is truly shocking. Did SOE and LA hire the Irth Online dev team to make this? /chortle Tam |

Really thought that LoTR Online could be the answer to my MMORPG woes... But after viewing some vids from E3, its looks very much like World of Warcraft with DDO character models, and if they have taken this path with the visual look of the game... I hate to think what the storyline/immersion is going to be like. No doubt the current announcement of planned PvP will also add to my dismay... have an awful feeling i will have to put up with "ZOMG!!!!!!! I PWNED FRODOZ GAY AZZ!!" yelled several hundred times a day. Goodbye RP, godbye immersive world... Hello WoW2: The Pwning of the Ring Tam PS: dont label me a hater, i really wanted this game to be THE ONE, but it appears to have been watered down to match the current crop of souless, dayglo MMO Hack and Slash games that pretend to be RPG's. |

I'm kinda seeing that in their future as well. I think they've already prooven to themselves that they suck balls at developing and maintaing their own games. Maybe with Vanguard they've gotten the hint and are just going to start hosting games and putting them into the All Access/Station Pass. Could be a nice incentive for other Developers to publish games through SOE, and is definately good for us gamers. My thoughts as well, and the kind of reply I hoped to get to a thread I posted a few days ago :) http://www.mmorpg.com/discussion2.cfm/thread/79676 I still have some hope for Vanguard Tam |

This isnt an SoE bash, so if you post a reply please dont turn it into one... Anyone ever considered that SOE are fully aware of their reputation amongst the MMO player base?. They no longer have the stanglehold on MMO's that they used too in early EQ days, after the public dabacle that was SWG and numerous tirades about Station Exchange, maybe they thought it would do them some good having their name attached to a game that has the potential to please the more 'serious' gamers. Sure it wont make them a sack load of cash, Sigil themselves dont expect Vanguard to garner WoW size subscriptions due to the style of game they are making, but a success in this field, even by association, wouldnt harm SOE one bit. Im willing to bet Sigil got a very good deal on distribution and server support, and that SOE are counting on this future partnership to regain a some credibility with the MMORPG community. Just my 2 coppers worth... Peace |

God forbid it is like either of them... If it is, Turbine will have dropped the ball on what could have been a truly unique game. |
