The thread is mainly about your first experience in oblivion... Seriously didn't anyone think it is very very boring or is just me and AJ. A ghost pops up says you are the hero, you kill the most common creature a skeleton, you see no daedra, no npcs are challenging so you don't want to avoid them and leave that place as fast as possible, you are escaping from a prison and is everyone from themselves, why no grouping quest or a strong boss for lvl 1 and 2 to motivate grouping and socialization so you can get some unique loot?

Why no quest to release or help other npcs? or a quest that gives you just a subplot or a information to put in context a future quest?

I don't think I even found any grouping enemies it was just one vs one?!

Yes I was actually in lvl 4 when the game gave me massive lag, the npcs I was fighting were all in lvl 3 so not much exp boost from them, plus I always explore what is around me to start quests so I can then just focus on completing them altogether, it's more efficient that way.

Your pc must be terribly optimized if you got massive lag at lvl 4.

^Ofcourse.... you hit the nail on the head. I mean, it couldn't be the game itself, it has to be his pc. /sigh

Not having swimming or water combat  is a horrible reason reason for not playing the game.

Why? Because there are a million other legitimate reasons not to play.

By agreeing with the OP I am clearly in the minority.

I don't think this game is anything special.

This game is at best passable for an audience that has been without a mmo they could get behind. A 'desperate' audience.

If you truly enjoy the game, great.

If you quit, why come back?

Why did you quit in the first place?

I played 6 years, from release.  I Quit mmo's for a while and currently play GW2. I am not a fan of gear grinds and leveling in general---and when I tried WoW once again to play with a friend, it was, for me, unplayable. Just couldn't do it.

 Nope.

Not interested.

No big reason.

It just didn't hook me.

I just wanted to pop in and say I am having a good time.

Playing casually, I have a nearly geared 80 Mesmer. A thief in his 60s and a Lowby Engineer.

Leveling is not complicated, you can do it a million different ways--story, hearts, crafting, Champ farming etc

I will say this about leveling, EVERYTHING You do counts. You get experience for finding points of interest, finishing quests, crafting, World V World, harvesting--you name it, you will get experience for it.

I have yet to see all the world, and I haven't seen a fraction of all the the PVE Content and dungeons.

PvP/WvW is a lot of fun. I personally don't care much for the zerg but it can be fun for the sheer speed and trying to keep up with the group. It's made more fun if you know whats going on, rewards are great/money is good...xp is great. Some builds excel in large groups--zerg.

***It IS NOT DAOC. If you go in thinking it will be another RvR DAOC--you will be sadly disappointed. You will be disappointed because its simply not the same.

***Don't get me wrong, its a blast. But it is different.

It is it's own game. If you come in looking for the same feel, the same everything that you once had, well that is the worst form of hype you could ever give this game. It is great in its own way. I don't recommend trying WvW at a low level as you will get destroyed. But at 80, in a good spec/build, in even crappy gear, its a blast.

Personally I find the most fun to be had, helping out in smaller scale fights, soloing, duo or small group.

The combat is great and not typical in my opinion. It takes a bit of time to get the hang of things, namely how combos work.

I find the mesmer community on the official gw2 forums to be VERY helpful. I have had people in the thief community and mesmer community reach out to me in game to offer advice on builds, gear, even having a very popular mesmer build creator meet me in pvp to give me some tips. I have never seen that in any other game.

The PvP combat is the deepest of any mmorpg I have played (Shadowbane, DAOC, SWG, WoW, AION, Warhammer)

And that's all I have for now.

I do not care to argue, discuss or make a case for the game. If you want to give it a try, great.

If you want to challenge me point for point, I couldn't care less like many a mmorpg forum troll likes to do, you are muttering to yourself.

This site is the last place I would talk to a bunch of haters about GW2.

Want to get a real answer? Talk to the people who play the game, not a bunch of bitter "Veterans" and hardcore...

Hey look at that, there are gw2 forums!

I always cringe when I see these threads.

Without getting into setups and what to buy and what not to and pros and cons.

This one truth is a fact- If you can snap together leggos, you can build your own PC.

 lol, I agree

I keep trying to convince a friend of mine to build his own, he gets hung up on the software side of things.

"But that's easy too" -I tell him.

Looks like you went here http://www.logicalincrements.com/

 Quizzical always gives good advice.

While I like mmorpg.com for mmo info, if I want PC Building information http://www.maximumpc.com/forums/index.php] <--that is all they do, build pc's, mod pc's, give advice to people on what to build, how to build etc etc etc.

Bravo SOE.

And if you think a lawyer will control who they ban and don't ban from their own online service, apparently you've never read a EULA. Good luck with that.

EULA's are not as binding as you think they are. Oh they can claim all kinds of shit, doesn't really matter. If the laws don't support it and if a good lawyer can argue against it...well then out goes the EULA.

I look forward to the review!

I haven't seen a bot or gold spam since playing....I've played for at least 4 months.

My only caution, find a server that is semi local. I got onto a server that is mostly Australian and New Zealand---and while that is not a bad thing, the time difference is.

Not to be rude or anything, but why should I care that you are doing a review? Are you someone special? The game has been reviewed many times. Why should anyone care that you in particular are reviewing it? And also, if its so far off, why the announcement? Again, are you someone special and we should all get excited because you MIGHT be reviewing the game in a year or so?

Care to answer to this, OP?

As opposed to whom? Who do you two authorize to write a review?

Its not about authorizing it, its about why the hell is he announcing it? He's making it out to be some sort of big deal that he will be gracing us with his review. I just want to know why his is any more important than anyone elses....

It's nice that more people are getting involved with sharing their opinions though.  Whether or not the OP is the type of person to carry out what they start is another story.

Having never heard a peep on the proposed review, it can't be commented on.  If it ever does get completed, hopefully it will include pro's and con's.

THis is a very odd thread and should be locked as it holds no value as far as being able to discuss anything, but as far as some of the posts here, its a great game to some, its a horrible game to others, many more are in the middle for one reason or another, what difference does it make. If you like it, play it. IMO the game is just fine when treated as a single player story game with the occassional need to group with others for some of the better story modes. Did the game do as well as I had hope and what Bioware thought? Not at all, but the games seems to have a healthy enough population and is staying afloat so who gives a shit lol.

That part is really subjective.  What you said was mostly neutral, until that part.

SWTOR "seems" to be staying afloat though.  SWTOR had a huge budget followed by lackluster followings .. the budget in the $200 - $300 million range initially at time of launch (counting advertising / shilling).  More expenditures would ensue post launch, bringing the to-date costs much higher.

Then there is the whole thing with EA buying BioWare in 2007 for $860 million (http://www.gamespot.com/news/ea-buying-bioware-pandemic-for-860m-6180818).  I believe EA had big plans for BioWare at the time (and are since trying to release games under the BioWare name currently), but EA has really tarnished the BioWare logo with SWTOR (outside of some loyalists who remain).

So spending over a billion dollars on SWTOR, then others saying SWTOR is staying afloat is a bit of a stretch.  The servers are still up though, if that's what you mean (14% of them anyways).  I mean, shit, EA needs to continually lump SWTOR with 2 of their best games in their financial report, then declare a gain amongst all 3 games combined.  Smell fishy yet?

Bit of a stretch to say that EA spent a billion dollars on SWTOR...

 @OP Nice write up.

I feel this way towards shadowbane

Characters build on offensive/defensive/spellcasting skill levels with abilities based on how high each one was. This left you with 10+ different builds on each class, before runes. Runes spawned off of rare spawn mobs, some gave you new abilities (basically subclasses, you could have up to 3) and some gave you higher stat caps( between +5 to +40). The combinations were endless and all of them unique.

They have real stealth which only the scout class could reveal, thieves could steal from your inventory.

You built your own cities literally plan by plan, including merchants(which is where crafting was done, you had to level them and give them resources too), banks, walls, GUARDS (all different types and could set their aggression and pathing).

All in open world PVP. The resources to make the best items were all contested nodes that only one guild could control at a time.

They built a world , put tons of valuables spread throughout it, then made us all fight over it. Even location on the map was important. I remember trying to siege cities build on islands.

It's literally everything people QQ about never having in a game anymore. Went F2P in like 2006 and was overrun by chinese. You would show up to a siege with 50 people but they would have 300.

I wasn't going to even post, but I loved Shadowbane.  I thought Rune hunting was a great amount of fun, it was an adventure in itself.

I also liked crafting and running my own store in game. It was a blast.

As to the post, I think many of the things older games did well, could still be replicated in new games.

-Everything doesn't have to be brand new and unheard of.

-WoW stole everyones ideas and implemented them....and did very well because of it.

None of the new, or upcoming MMO's are going to appease a soul who enjoys good community, built on open worlds. Plain and simple. New games don't community building like old games at all. This is why the repetition, you might have enjoyed one time, such as games like UO, AC, SWG, was okay, because you we're having fun with other people, and it actually felt worth it.

I think there's a lot of truth in your words; games are simply not what they used to be

 for variuos reasons.

I'm linking a video here. It may not help the OP in any way, but it may help others to understand: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DYaLfUJKSSA

Hate that guy

Could. He. Talk. Any. Slower.  18 minute video could be 5 mins if he actually talked a normal speed and didn't take himself so serious.

PS -Whoever put up that louis ck vid, thank you. That was funny as hell

Your post could of been better if you would of provided something to substantiate your claim.

Couldn't care less about this whole post.

Anyone who has been around for a while see's the same posts repeatedly.

There are advantages and disadvantages to both realistic and cartoony comic styles. The end.
