The concept seems great, only time will tell. What would make it even more "fun" would be permdeath. I know this is a touchy subject so I just want to say that is my opinion only.

Why do people think WoW started the easy mode mmorpg genre of today.
The Pub at MMORPG.COM « General Discussion 6/06/07 8:47:59 AM
I played EQ since early beta and 2 years afterward. I am a "casual" player so do not play as much as others. After the 2 years of playing EQ, the max level I got a char to was 30. When I started WoW, I got to max level in 10-11 months. I don't play any different then I did back then, so to me WoW does make it easier to level up and therefore really is the true "easy mode" of MMOs so far.

I know it would be a spoiler, but does anyone have the solution for the New York one? I don't have anything but Paint and I stink at using those programs to put pictures together. Anyone willing to help?
[EDIT] Of course, if it is random for everyone then I guess I will just skip this. I saw a picture of the New York one solved and replicated that but did not get the good stuff at the end. |

Originally posted by defenestrate Hehe, I LOVED ZORK, (echo..., echo..., echo...). Good ole INFOCOM. Well, it's hard to pick a single one since I loved so many, but I liked BG and NWN as well as Revenant. Hmm, I guess I will go with BG2. For MMOs, nothing brought the feeling that EQ did when I first played that. And no, it wasn't my first. The Realm actually was my first. EQ just seemed to get the world feeling correct more than others did. When it was dark, it was hard to see. So much so that sometimes you didn't know something was 5 foot in front of you if you didn't have a lantern or night vision. Scary feeling. Never had that feeling again and I am tired of the same old grinding of all the other games I tried. |

I am really looking forward to this game and have been quite a while. Though it's focus is RP and not on PvP, there is still PvP. However, rampant killing will not be tolerated and in game justice will be provided as well as GM tools.
Along these lines, with 3 deaths you will perma-die. That being the case, this could have a dramatic affect on the amount of random killing you see in other PvP games. This game has so many great features. You should head over to the site and check it out. Be aware that a lot of the lore in being revised and is not up yet so the current lore is outdated. [EDIT] I should also add that you do not know your skill levels or the level of others. There are no bars or numbers, there are no player levels. So, it is much as in real life instead of looking at a chart to see how you stack up. |

I tried playing this game once quite a while. I didn't like watching stick figures walking around and combat was awkward to me since I kept getting delays. I also thought the graphics were not very good though I could have cared less if the gameplay was there. Anyway, I have no idea how it is now but don't care to find out. |

I used to play something similar on the BBS back in the late 80s. The only thing we had back then was a turn based game in which we submitted our "moves" to the one running the game and found out the results later in the day or the next day. I can't even remember the name of it but it was fun for a while, then I got into Zork. I never played a graphical MUD before so this might be interesting. (I am not counting the MMOGs I played as graphical MUDs) EDIT: Or I should say the only thing I could find instead of the only thing we had |

Has anyone got into Closed Beta for this game?
General Discussion « The Chronicles of Spellborn 3/13/07 1:36:41 PM
Unfortunately I just found out about this game a couple days ago. The features listed on the site sound amazing, and I like the way they went with combat to get rid of the click and wait stuff. Can't wait for open beta.

It has WASD but you can also use your mouse to move if you hold the buttons down. You can also turn while doing this by moving the ball.

WoW community MGR criticizes Vanguard double xp weekends
The Pub at MMORPG.COM « General Discussion 3/11/07 12:44:41 PM
I don't think they should have handled it that way. Not everyone can be on the same hours, if at all. They should have given double XP to all players for the next 20 hours they are logged in. That way it doesn't matter when they log in, they would just get it whenever they log in again and continue until 20 hours of logged in time expires. However, that would have been more work for them I imagine. It's a much easier route to just flip an XP "switch" for the whole program but it doesn't cover everyone. |

I beta tested this game for quite a while. It is a little more complex to learn then something like EQ or WoW. It is a game that has to grow on you as you will seem like you are not doing much for a while. But after a while it may appeal to you or the pace may not be to your liking. Of course, that was a long time ago now and I am not sure how much it has changed since the launch. |

This will be interesting. I always liked Bioware products. I think they do a great job. Not sure if that will translate to MMOs but it will be fun to find out.
