It doesn't need to be, it just can't feel like wow clone #9028474576 like wildstar did and most other mmo's. Wow is the biggest mmo least sub wise, most of the people who stoped playing wow really aren't looking for the exact same game in a new skin, which is generally all that is being made, its why they keep flopping so hard. To me a wow clone is a mmorpg where your forced down a linear path going from quest hub to quest hub with no way to choose where you actually go. I'm sorry but i'd like to choose where I quest and not be forced down the exact same path everyone else is. Because of this mmorpg's have gotten pretty stagnant for me, since they all just feel like the same shit in a diffrent skin in each game.

Back when I first played SWTOR in beta my first impression bascally was "This game is going to flop as a sub based mmo" and lo and behold it flopped hard. It was literally wow in a starwars skin. Heard its doing pretty good now, I'd try it for the hell of it but I heard the f2p is like super restrictive to the point you can't do much of anything as a free player.

Hmm....

Ethical F2P design....

Now there's a conundrum.

Warframe wants to talk to you. Other than extra colors to use on frames, everything in the cash shop is easly earnable in game. Nothing in the cash shop gives a real advantage, since anything in it can be obtained in game (save for aformented paint colors for frames). Its pretty much the best f2p setup i've seen, you can pay to get some stuff faster if you wish, or earn it via playing the game over time. Its honestly the best example of a cash shop i've seen, another good one is Path of Exile.

I do have one word of advice, if you ever go to play a f2p game and it has BR (Battle rating) involved, stay far away, because any mmo with battle rating is generally 100% completly pay2win, a free player is never able to catch up to someone who pays. These games are also partically pvp based so you can see the issue here. Generally on each server there is 1 person in each class who spends a ton and just dominates everyone.

Nothing to discuss...

They have found an exploit, they'll ban anyone found to be using the exploit.

Pretty simple really.

So using a bed... that they put in game.. for it's intended use.. is an exploit?

Hmm...

I mean, it's not like someone is exploiting a mob by standing on said bed and being unhittable.  It's not like said bed is broken and doubling a persons stats.  The bed is being used for exactly what it was intended to be used for.  Sleeping in game.  This is how it is used in every other part of the world.  It is DESIGNED to be used like that.

I really cannot comprehend how a rational person can think that is exploiting and I think the company should be EMBARASSED to even make that claim.  It's really simple:  If they don't want people to sleep in beds then take them out of their game.  Same thing with benches.

I agree, I don't see how this is an exploit when they are being used for their intended purpose. Trions entire handling of AA has been spotty at best. I myself won't play the game because I heard its pretty much totally pay2win.

Well, this will probally happen once mmo's come out that don't feel like they are copy pasted from wow. As in.. I don't see this happening anytime soon. To me a wow clone is: a game where you go from quest hub to quest hub on a set path you cannot deviate from at all. Bascally the game is completly linear and on rails you cannot change directions or anything.

A decent example of a mmo that doesn't feel like a biliant wow wannabe is fallen earth, yes it has quest hubs, however, your free to go to any town you want and quest there, your not locked into one linear unchangable railride.

Wow, I'd like to have some of what Mister Moore is smoking.  As bad as the game is doing with its massive loss in players and he can still say the folllowing:

“I personally feel like we had an extremely successful and smooth launch”

“even the players that are the most frustrated are still very happy with the core game experience”

“I don’t think that we have a problem with player interest”

They made a WoW clone that was almost universally viewed as too hard core and resulted in a massive loss in players and yet he feels it was a smooth launch and they have not lost player interest?  All we ever get from developers/publishers is marketing/PR speak.  Well Mr. Moore you can keep saying what a great success your game is all you want while myself and many others are off playing other games.

My best friends entire 20-30 man guild recently quit wildstar due to the game feeling completly dead. I quit by the 2nd month after launch and never went back myself, The game was just boring. The combat wasn't bad, but other than that it was just wow again in a new skin. When will these devs learn if we want wow, we'd be playing wow.

It has open pvp, open pvp games attract these kinds of players like flies to dogshit. Thats about all there is to it.
I am mostly staying away from AA because its totally pay2win, with the labour pots being in there on a 4 hour cooldown (was supposed to be 12 or 24 hour). People with too much cash irl can throw it at the game and get way ahead, and in a game like this, you won't catch up.
I'd buy it if I can use a keyboard and mouse combo on my ps3 to play it, I can't aim worth shit with a controller in games when a crosshair is involved. I really don't know why they don't include kb/mouse support considering the system has a bunch of usb ports.
I been staying away from swtor after hearing about how as a free player you bascally cannot do anything really, not even chat without paying or something. That and I tried the beta and was pretty bored of it pretty quickly.

City of heroes/villians was a pretty fun game, it was mostly grinding, but some of the story arc's were good, and the char customization is second to none. You'd bascally pick your archetype, then combine 2 of the powersets (sets of skills) to use, with the main being full power and the secondary being a bit weaker effectiveness wise. You bascally beat the crap out of things, all diffrent types. It was also pretty team based, yeah you could solo, but it was alot faster to do missions in a party.

What killed CoH IMO was the mission creation system, the reason I say this is because people would just exploit it to get to level cap in a day or 2 by making easly farmable missions.

I didn't play much of Tabula Rasa, but I didn't think it was that bad of a game, it had some neat things to it.

Is there any f2p mmorpgs with lots to do in game but aren't heavly pay2win? They can be client or browser based that doesn't matter to me. Any suggestions? Not really intersted in stuff that lacks pve (so no games like those fps mmo's). Other than the no fps thing, anything else is pretty much game that I will try fi I haven't tried it already. I've played alot of these mmorpg's out, but ya never know I might have overlooked a gem.

There's been a lot of talk about a possible XB1 without a disk drive. MS have wanted to phase out physical game sales (and disks with it) since their announcement of the XB1. I wouldn't put it past MS to remove the BlueRay drive from some future Xbox versions and push forward with their original Steam like distribution platform they had originally planned.

remember the massive flop that was the PSP GO? If Xbox forces digital games on everyone by removing the disc drive the box is so doomed.... I have a PS4 but i dont want the competition to die because it affects everyone.

I dont think if xbox were to die off like dreamcast it would really have much of an effect.  It would just go back to the way it was during the N64 vs PS1 days where the games were amazing and playstation games were only about 40-50 dollars, only this time it would be Wii U vs PS4 and 3DS vs Vita.  Same with when it was Gamecube vs. PS2 since the first Xbox came out a little later after those.

For the 3ds vs vita fight, I think the 3ds wins, it just has a better variety of games. I mostly play rpgs and the only one on vita I know i'd buy is p4golden, I do own a 3ds and have lets see... 13 games, with persona Q being my next title to purchaise, I'm a big atlus fan, most of my 3ds games are published by atlus. The Smt series mostly. Rune Factory 4 though is by far my favorite title on the system so far, but I think persona q will end up dethroning that.

I think the problem is quite frankly how the xbone is 20-30% weaker thank the ps4 performance wise, which makes a noticable diffrence in cross platform titles between the 2, bascally the xbone one is always inferior, lower res, lower poly counts, sometimes lower res textures, and lower fps. Xbone also doesn't have any good exclusives really to warrant buying a xbone over a ps4. While the ps4 will probally end up having all the rpgs and such like ps3 and x360 gen was. Most of the xbone exclusives are just shooters we've played tons of times, new skin over it won't change it much. The problem also is ps4 just has the better games as a whole, not even counting graphical performance, they just have a better variety of titles, and the gap is getting bigger and bigger. If your a game producer wanting to make a rpg for 1 console, your probally going to go with ps4 compared to a xbone simply for the fact there is over double the amount of ps4's out there to xbones. Most jrpgs never come out across mutiple consoles at the same time, the amount of work they take is much more than some generic shooter like call of duty etc. I don't own a ps4 or a xbone yet, most of the games i'd rent on it, I can get on pc, they both just lack anything that grabs me. Only game i know of in the future I'd buy is persona 5. I have 0 faith in ff15 being any good, it will probally use the same generic squaresoft plot they have reused since ff4. Though at least this time they aren't going with the boring as shit ATB battle system they usually go with.

I have to admit we'll probally never see another mmo like EQ, this day in age its mostly casuals that play that aren't willing to put in the time for the social levels needed for something like that. The most recent mmorpg where I would say had that social aspect of eq would have been final fantasy 11 before squarsoft dumbed it down to shit for the casuals to draw in more players. Yeah, it was a better move finacally, but it really ruined what was the last true mmorpg out there. Not to say FF11 was the best mmo it had its issues, but in recent memory its pretty hard to top the social skills needed to get stuff done in it. Stuff took time, most of the players were the patient type, but when we got the stuff we had planned done it was a great feeling of accomplishment that most of todays mmorpgs just don't have anymore. Mostly because you can do most of the game solo and never really need another player to progress. Bascally whats happening is they are moving away from the mmo/social aspects and making these "mmorpgs" more like a single player game for the most part.

I've tried to get into them many times, I just can't seem to get into them, because how these games are designed make for a bad single player experence. They just aren't fun, and humans almost always take the path of least resistance, which means a large portion of the playerbase doesn't like to group up due to it slowing them down. Yes I said slowing them down, when the game is setup to bascally be single player till level cap, grouping up for most of the content that doesn't require a group just seems to slow people down at times.

MMORPG's are in a sad sad place atm, and I don't see them pulling themselves out of it anytime soon. It makes me sad as someone who used to love the genre seeing them turn out like this. To this day I blame world of warcraft for this, because it wasn't till WoW was released that mmorpgs started to get how they are today.

Yet another game that looks much better on the ps4 with higher res and such, not that its unexpected with xbone being signicantly weaker graphical power wise (ps4 is 20-30% more powerful hardware wise, so the games are always going to look better/run at a higher res/fps on it). I dunno if I could give up a 20-30% more powerful ps4 to get a xbone for some random lame shooter exclusive, especally when every crossplatfom game (like destiny and all the others following it) will always look alot better on the ps4. I don't own neither console yet though, isin't anything on the ps4 I am intersted in really, and even less so on the xbone since its alot weaker than the ps4 is graphically, well that and I prefer the dual shock style controller to the one xbone uses. I had a x360 but got rid of it due to lack of games I'd actually buy on the console when most of them were on the pc and (usually) better versions. Got a ps3 with over 30 games and rising, mostly rpgs. Like I said most of the non-rpg games come out on pc, so don't really need em on a console.

I would of bought destiny if it was on pc, playing a first person shooter with a controller is frigging terrible compared to a pc. I won't play em on my ps3, psp or 3ds either due to the poor controls/aiming that can be done with the analog sticks. I am mostly mad as a pc gamer that most pc games will be ports of the inferior xbone versions of the games for the cross platform stuff. I only got consoles for games that never come out on pc, like jrpgs and such.

Looking at the ratings (metacritic averages the scores from various publications) destiny is pretty much a flop, mind you, if enough $$$ greeses some reviewers hands they will write a much better review than it deserves. Take the last of us for example, it was a decent game, but it was no where near as good to get a 95/100 on metacritic, the game got quite boring about halfway thru, due to the way too reused animations (mostly stealth takedowns and such using the exact same animation for every enemy of that type). I would have given The Last of Us about a 70 or so.

Biggest complaint I hear about destiny is that the game had alot of promise but the devs kinda fell thru on delivering it, it happens alot in many diffrent genres. Really don't know why these devs cannot code the games to also use a keyboard/mouse, I mean the consoles have usb ports on them, why not let us use them?

I thought the cooldown on LP pots was supposed to be 24 hours?
I've played the beta for this, its decent, could use more levels and stuff though, and a bigger home plot to craft on. See everyone gets a home plot that you can call in to any map your on and it'll be the same on any map, and you can add to it and stuff.

Looks like there isn't as big a market for a "hardcore" game as they thought.  Their belief that "poopsocking cannot fail, it can only be failed" seems to be unraveling.  It's a shame, too, since there's a lot of nice features in the game.  I wonder if the blame for the failure will be either the game wasn't hardcore enough or we, meaning the dirty casuals, weren't hardcore enough.

Its more the mmorpg market is mostly casuals these days, which means if stuff isin't easy enough, the game will fail. Then again most sub based mmorpgs just don't make it anymore. Probally because imo they all just bascally copy and paste wow and don't even try to hide it or spice it up much. I mean if you took wildstars combat and replaced it with wow's combat, it'd bascally be wow, since other than the combat thats what the game is. Thats where the problem lies, people are tired of every mmorpg feeling like wow in a new skin, devs need to move away from it.

Week 2: More and more, you realize this has little to do with zombies or apocalypse survival. It's really about preteens with sniper rifles head-shotting you from 850 yards.

Week 3: You uninstall H1DayZ1, and drop me a note thanking me for not spending a cent on this game.

Pretty much what it will be if there is open pvp. If they want pvp keep it in a special seperate zone thats optional, was alot of sandbox games lately that tout "open pvp!" second they do I just close the page, because it'll just be a shitty gankfest. Open pvp does not work in the usa/north america, the community is too damn immature for it.

If this has open pvp I won't play it, because the game then just turns into a gank fest and nothing more. Happened with DayZ and others like H1Z1, secodn the open pvp comes the zombies become a joke since the only threat becomes every other player you see.
