So is this another pvp open gankfest mmo? if so its going to fail like every other open pvp mmorpg has failed so far. Other than Eve, but eve only survived because of plex, the game was about to go under before it came in.

I been itching for a mmo that actually feels like its MMO. Most mmorpgs today feel like single player games with a irc chat system. Which is totally diffrent than what they are meant to be. An example of a good mmo would be, sword art online or dot hack if it was an actual mmorpg, all the team based create your own content type stuff that they have.

It should do ok as long as they don't force open pvp, if they do the game is as good as dead on arrival since open pvp mmorpgs generally fail hard.

The issue with coh was mutiple fold, for one, it was pretty much a grinder, two: once they put in the way to make your own missions it just became a farm fest. 3: over time it became less and less super feeling due to various nerf. 4: you couldn't really solo with most of the powersets effectivly Only really certan combos could solo half-decently (by this i mean to say solo a same level mission, believe it or not alot of diffrent power sets were unable to do this) and then the devs nerfed those into the ground. 5: the game was team based, which is a double edged sword, on one edge its nice you can do things and actually benefit from playing with others, on the downside they had no real "team finder" setup or anything so most of it revolved around waiting for a lucky invite, or sending tells to party leaders hoping to get in. and 6: the game got dated graphically as time went on, and not much was done to improve this, alot of gamers today thing pretty gfx=good (thou usually its the other way around, if a game is too pretty its gameplay probally sucks, look at call of duty and most shooter/fps games for a prime example of this.)

Either way I am waiting with bated breath for a new hero type game to come out thats simmlar to city of heroes gameplay wise in terms of how powersets worked etc, but with more of a freeform targeting system.

No mention of planet explorers which blows pretty much all of these games out of the water in most ways?

Don't have a PS4 yet, but with this one and FFXV coming I might pick one up ;-)

I'm really hoping XV will release on PC at some point. I find it hard to justify a PS4 purchase for 1-2 games.

True that 2 games would not justify the purchase of a console. But I'm a vivid jRPG lover and there are already a couple of them (aside from FF) on the PS4 as well. But before buying a PS4 I'll wait for the 2nd or 3rd release of the console to iron out all current problems. Till then there are still enough jRPGs for me to play on the PS3. ;-)

Oh I'm a lover of the JRPG's too, I'm clearing out my tales backlog finally on PS3, finally bit the bullet and bought one a couple months ago, i'll be busy and should clear up the JRPG backlog by the time the PS4 hits the $200 range lol.

I didn't know PS4 had any JRPG's right now in NA.

I've bought my PS3 only last month and have started on the Tales of Xillia and FF13 and buying a lot of other jRPGs (2nd hand of course) to play through.

Not sure how many jRPGs there are yet available for the Western market (living in the EU myself), but I figure that there are a lot in Japan already. By the time I'm done with the PS3 jRPGs (and like you waiting for the PS4 to be around €200) a lot of the might already be translated to English so I (we) can continue our jRPG addiction there :D

There is quite a few jrpgs on the market for ps3, I got my ps3 last summer, and I have over 30 rpgs for it. With more coming as I find them. There is quite a good selection, more than any other console. Liek I said in my last post, playstation consoles always seem to get the better variety of stuff compared to xbone and nintendo. Just don't pay attention to the ratings, shit games like generic fps call fo duty gets like 80+ on meta critic yet a rpg that has way more gameplay and is overall a better game gets like 50. Most reviews are bought these days, makers of cod have money to throw around to bribe good reviews as a prime example. there is articles on kotaku of reviews for sites like ign and gamespot coming out they were bribed to rate a game higher than it deserves. Or rather their boss was. I usually use gamefaqs for my reviews, since its all user reviews. Its more reliable than metacritic. If you like jrpgs I also reccomend the nintendo 3ds, it has quite a few, especally alot of atlus games.

Hopefully this doesn't come off as trolling because its not meant too. Its just how I feel about the ff series and consoles as a whole.

Meh I personally expert ff15 to be crap like most ff games are. They reuse the same plotline too much, WAY to much, pretty much every FF game since 4 has used the exact same plot, with the exact same plot twists that are super predictable, that and the gameplay has never been that great either. Though FF15 going to a more action rpg setup might be intersting. I do not own a ps4 yet, and I never play to get a lame xbone ever, mostly cuz the xbone won't ever have the variety of games the ps4 will end up having. (Look at ps3 vs x360 for proof, and ps2 vs xbox), that and thr fact its inferior compared to ps4 for crossplatform games (unless its on pc, then pc>all)

Besides the ps4 atm is too expensive for its lack of decent games. Sorry but generic fps and shooter #917362 do not interest me. You can also expect the ff15 on xbone to look massivly inferior to the ps4 version as its already been proven in mutiple games since xbone is noticably weaker hardware wise. The diffrence will be especally noticable since squaresoft games tend to have some of the best graphics on the market.

Anywho, I personally see 0 point to owning a ps4 right now, not when most of the games are avail for pc as well, a system/platform I already currently have. I am kinda intersted in ff15 if it doesn't use the same boring rehashed plot thatthey used since ff4 for most of the ff games. Its not the hero saves the world part either, thats in almost every game so cannot really hold that at fault, its other things.

It was all smoke before the layoffs. Now something might actually get done over there besides a zombie game with 15 year old graphics.

H1z1 actually has zombies? since when? last I checked it was just a open world gankfest/deathmatch game.

Lets be honest pretty much any f2p mmorpg will be a cash grab. But selling the best gear in game in a cash shop is a big no-no in my book. Also you need cash shop to repair gear from normal use? WTF?

This is simple, because any of these sandbox games that have pvp bascally end up as nothing but a openworld deathmatch and little else. Westerner's can't seem to go a day without ganking someone in those games. These games with pvp also ultimetly flop, because people get sick of being ganked by people they cannot fight back against, having all their stuff taken, and having their progress mostly reset everytime. People get sick of it and quit, then even the gankers quit because they chase any new player away, then the game dies. Grav did it best, there is a 15-30 min timer on the open pvp server before anyone can loot their stuff, it really has lowered the open gankfest these games tend to be since most gankers won't sit there for that long to loot it. there is still ganking, but not nearly as much as in other games without a loot timer.

Bascally these games do not work in the west, in the east there is alot less ganking in these kinds of games due to having actual respect for other players, that and they tend to be tight knit, you kill the wrong person in the wrong guild and your life can become hell because they will hunt you down, something you never see in western players, at best you'll get a "hahaha you suck!" (or something simmlar) from your guild or something if your lucky.

Most of the sandbox multiplayer games have open pvp, and like I said they bascally devolve almost immedatly into openworld gankfest #927163. The reason they are assumed to be that is due to most of them actually being that.

However some games are smart about it, like The repopulation, the open pvp has no looting AND its only in a seperate zone, however this zone is also where player cities and such will be. There is a hardcore ruleset server coming with looting too later on, thou I suspect it'll be pretty empty compared to the pve one.

The problem is your videocard, you need a better one, there is really not much else to say, the 660 is weaker noticably than the 560 gtx. However here are some options you can lower in any game to improve performance: Ambient occlusion (this effect is a massive resource eater and I personally don't notice much with it on or off in terms of graphics quality) Turning down shadows (or even turning them off) will help alot, I generally shut shadows off in games even thou I have a 970 4g from MSI, unless its a game where shadows can help me (like say, FEAR series, knowing a enemy is around the corner cuz you see his shadow can save you), but for a game like guild wars 2, shadows really don't do much other than add to realism a bit. At that res you could also shtu anti-alazing off, you won't notice it tooo much at 1080p, Higher res you go the less AA you need usually. Lowering res can also give a huge improvement.

However if you wanna keep your current settings and get a higher fps, only real way to do it is upgrade your cpu or videocard.

Its not hat big of a deal really. Its defentally not enough to be worth subbing for me, unless they add alot of dlc and such. Only really good thing is the gold increase. In these games having money makes everything easier. The other 3 things everyone will cap out on eventually, 10% faster is probally not tyhat big a deal in the long run, besides, its not like this is a 24/7 open pvp full loot game, its mostly pve. I don't play eso, but now that there is no longer a sub requirement if I can find it on sale i'll probally give it a shot. I give it 6 months thou before its completly f2p, if that. Sub requireing mmo's don't seem to make it anymore. The only reason wow has so many subs is it has a big fanbase. Other sub mmo's tend to not last because they just bascally try to copy and paste wow into a new skin, and people who have stopped playing wow wanna play something diffrent, not the exact same game in a diffrent skin. F2P is not always evil,  Worse thing i've seen done was the recent H1Z1 fiasco, with the air drops, which as of this message I am posting I heard they are removing them due to massive complaints. Now those airdrops are a biliant example of pay2win, your in a survival games your supposed to scrounge and they gave you the option to throw money to have stuff delivered right too you pretty much. Thankfully its being removed, but the pay2win stigma is already attached to it, so its too late, once you have that p2w stigma its virtually impossible to get it out of peoples minds.

The main reason people are complaining is because this is supposed to be a open world survival game, and when you can just throw money at it and have rare supplies droped right in front of you, it kinda completly defeats the entire purpose of a survival type game. Not to mention its open pvp, so this completly breaks the game, with the current model you may as well go play one of the many f2p fps games because thats pretty much what h1z1 is with the current cash shop. Now people who spend in the cash shop in f2p games should get some small advantage as a reward for supporting the game, but the advantage in h1z1 is far FAR too huge and this is why people are being very vocal about it. Well that and the fact the lead dev pretty much lied to the playerbase when he said you'd not be able to buy guns and such via cash shop. Which they can appear in the bought airdrops. One thing you do not do if you want to be successful is lie to your playerbase about stuff like this.

However I agree with the OP, I don't really see any other way to make it profitable. afaik there is no exp system, so xp pots for bonus exp are out. Cosmetic items probally won't keep this game afloat either, mostly because some player would just gank you and take your stuff. We all know this is dayz v2, where the zombies are a joke and the only real threat is every other player.

If the game/server has open pvp, then yes it can be major, if the game/server is pve only, I don't see much of  a point to the airdrops. Its not like you cannot just club the zombies to death. However the gun drops on a open pvp server will break the balance, not to mention the people qqing who bought the tickets only to get ganked and have all the stuff they bought with rl cash get stolen. I am not sure exactly how the game works. In terms of what you drop on death etc.

Pay2win is so effective because there is always the "I gutta be teh bestsss" retards that will spend a ton of money for a small advantage over someone else. I've seen it many times.

Frankie (of FrankieonPCin1080p) made an interesting video on his YouTube channel discussing how H1Z1 should differentiate itself and I thought he made some good points.

In essence, H1Z1 should contain PVP because it's a reality of the post-zombie apocalypse survival genre as we see in Walking Dead - other people are just as dangerous as the zombies if not more so, and if the game is going to be about banding together, building a base and surviving then other players need to pose some kind of potential threat, not least because that's what survival is about. Competing for the same resources and doing what you need to do to survive. Interacting with other unknown people is what makes the game fun, rather than just killing zombies

But the game needs systems to prevent it being a kill-on-sight gankfest. Frankie discusses limiting people to one character and possibly having a karma system. His other idea, which I rather liked, was that players have different skillsets so when you meet someone or a group they may have skills you need, so it's in your interest not to just kill them for their stuff. Frankie suggests this could be based on a player's pre-apocalypse background. E.g. one of your group is injured back at base and while out scavenging you meet a player who has medical skills because he was previously a doctor. Likely you would want this person to join your group, or at least help you, so it's not in your interest to just kill him.

Frankie gives the example from season 4 of Walking Dead when Daryl is alone searching for Beth and runs into Joe and his bandit group. Do they kill Daryl and take his stuff? No, because Joe sees someone who might be useful to the group and invites him to join them. I agree that H1Z1 should take inspiration from this to make the game deeper and not a deatmatch arena with token zombies.

The problem is most western gamers have no clue how to work together and co-exist, the fact every single open pvp mmo devolves into a gankfest from day 1 pretty much shows this. Ever play a eastern open pvp mmo? where the server is hosted there?  you will notice something real quick: its not a gankfest like the western ones, people actually have some respect for other players. Open pvp mmo's usually go like this: Server opens, not much ganking, 1st wave of people are a decent level now they go back and start ganking the new wave 2 people, some of them end up quitting because a game where no one allows you to do anything is never any fun, The wave 2 people that stay get higher leveled and get really jaded, wave 3 hits, now wave 1 and 2 are going around ganking newbies, even more quit, by wave 4 or 5, the game is dead due to no new players due to the games bad reputation, and it being filled with too many gankers that you can't get anything done. This is even WORSE if said game allows full looting. because then it gives even a bigger incentive to do it. Dark age of camelot did it best, you wanna pvp? there is a huge open zone where all 3 factions can go at it with keep claiming and everything, meanwhile the area's you level in the other 2 factions cannot access at all. There also was little pvp arena's divided by level brackets where the goal is to claim and hold the keep in the center. The only one with open pvp done right imo is Eve Online, you go around ganking random people, your going to have some people chasing you down, and in that game a death can be very costly.

Meanwhile in the Asian open pvp mmo's there is very little ganking, people work together to form guilds, some of these guilds even decide to act like police to take care of repeat gankers and such, all in all it ends up pretty civalized compared to how chaotic the western version ends up.

TL:DR Open pvp mmo's just don't work in the west due to the mentality of the playerbase, these games end up being dead within 1-3 months most of the time and its all the fault of its own players more often than not.

I am probally going to pass since its most likely going to be a shitty gankfest like dayz was. where the zombies aren't really a threat anymore since you need to look out for players. Unless its pve? I haven't been following it much since I figured it was just going to be dayz v2
Its bascally world of warcraft in a final fantasy skin, nothing more, nothing less, you can mostly solo except some of the main story things usually dungeon related require a party, but other than that yeah its soloable, well endgame is of course party oriented, all I can suggest is learn to dodge stuff, or else people will think your a complete moron at endgame.

Its probally because its a insult to the elder scrolls game series as a whole. I mean skyrim was pretty bad then they pull this out of their ass? The game is bascally just a wow clone with a action combat system. Nothing more, people were expecting elder scrolls epicness, but its really limited what you can actually do in the game compared to the other games in the series. Some people feel that they just called it elder scrolls to suck fanboys into buying it (trust me it works, seen some real trash being sold, and selling a ton of copies just cuz it has a popular series name on it) Me? I wasn't really intersted in it after I seen some of the initial videos, like I said I just seen: Wow with action combat and lost interest, and thats pretty much what the game is.

One thing you try to avoid is pissing off your fanbase of a long running series, seen so many go under due to that. Bascally just overall the game was nothing like was promised.

I honestly haven't looked forward to any game really lately, except indie titles. Lets face it indie titles are the only games these days that try anything new. All the big name games have gotten pretty bland since every new one is the exact same garbage in a slightly new wrapper (FPS games I am primarally looking at you, same for sports games) I mean do we really need a new call of duty game every year when the game never does anything new? Differences between most sports games year after year are just stats, the game itself gets very little if any improvements. Right now I am in early access for like 6 diff indie titles, and all are a ton of fun, which is more than I can say for the 60 dollar a pop big name company games. Bought dragin age inquision and honestly it was a waste of money, the game is quite poorly designed. Its main problem is most of the zones cap out too early so they become completly worthless for the player to bother with them. When I finally got the main keep, 5 new zones opened up, 4 of which were level capped lower than the level i already was, making everything in them not really worth the time. All exp you earn is based on your lv, so once you out level a quest you get bascally nothing for it. That and 90% of the quests are basic fetch this or kill that quests, its like they were trying to make a mmorpg and not a good single player game. I also wanna smack bioware for using a engine that is notoriously hard to mod, because mods could have fixed alot of the games initial problems. Anyway I can ramble on and on about this for hours so i'll stop here.

As for mmorpgs I haven't been excited in one for years, I see previews of them and I am just like "Yawn, wow clone #85646398" because thats all they do anymore, is just clone wow. I would be intersted in sandboxy mmorpgs but almost all of them are just pvp gankfests, and i'm not intersted in a game that rewards some high lv asshat for picking on newbies and such. I like pvp, when its done right, and sadly no mmorpg has done it right really since dark age of camelot.

Umm protip any f2p mmorpg that has a cash shop item that boosts drop rates is of course going to mess with it so they can maximize profits. Why is this surprizing? they all do it.
Sad to say they do not exist anymore. Most mmorpgs are bascally a single player game with a chatroom until you hit level cap, then you need to group up for endgame content.
