I have 2 mainly

1: The player races quite frankly look like shit, it takes a special kind of idiot to even screw up humans to the point they look stupid/freaky, and wildstar has done this.

2: The devs reluctance to fix bugs, I'm sorry but there have been a bunch of class bugs and other bugs that have been reported since beta that still ARE NOT FIXED, some are minor, others are major, like a skill doing 0 damage if a debuff from another skill is on the target, insted of just not overriding the buff and doing damage, the skill just does 0 damage or anything of value.

I don't mind the world art style, I just wish the player races looked better, I'm a 50 engineer in wildstar myself. Hit 50 3 weeks ago or so and then just lost most interest in the game, since all there was left was a ton of dailies and boring dungeons adinfinitum.

The reason people dislike them is because some games bascally force you to massivly cash shop if you want to compete or even do pve at a higher level. Wartune for example is a prime target for this, vip, resources, removed cooldown timers and such, mounts with stats the stack and various other things all can put a hardcore cash shopper WAY above others, and there is no way to catch up unless you spend a ton. It uses a battle rating system to generally gauge your power, so its quite easy to tell a casher or someone who spent months at that level farming to get that battle rating. Yes, wartune is just a low budget flash mmorpg, but this type of f2p cash shoppage can be in other higher budget titles as well.

One of the best examples of a good f2p title in recent memory would be Marvel Heros, other than bank space you can pretty much earn most things by just playing the game, with the option to buy it if your impatient. Also cash shoppers have no real advantages over someone who doesn't cash shop, this is the main thing why I consider it a good example. Too many f2p games put things behind a paywall, especally anything to do with upgrading gear and such. Like in Aura Kingdom, good luck getting something to +20 without massive cash shopping, you could do it with gold (the scrolls from cash shop are tradeable) but it can take months or even a year with how many scrolls you need, to upgrade anything past +9 you need scrolls that are rare main story rewards (usually 1-2 per zone), or all cash shop, they do not drop in game.

I think they need to fix the massive amount of ui/class bugs and other such things before they put in new content, engineer for one has about 30+ known bugs and none are fixed yet, and most were reported in the last beta before release. Insted of carbine fixing the bugs they nerf engineer skills, 2 of them that have mutiple bugs with them get nerfed, but they didn't bother to fix any of the assorted bugs involving the same 2 skills.

I enjoy the game, but I really wonder what carbine is focusing on since most patches seemed to be a nerf for something or other and very little bug fixes that you can openly notice. Only one I personally notice was when they fixed the massive memory leak involving various addon's.

Also I am a lv 50 engineer, working to attune for raids so, I ain't just some random lv 10 player.

EverQuest Next:  Moderate Telegraphs. (some abilities and AoE's are telegraphed, others are not; 50/50 split)


The Elder Scrolls Online:  Light Telegraphs (only seen two in the videos from this past Friday)


Guild Wars 2:   Light Telegraphs (i.e. AoE Red Rings)


Wildstar:  Heavy Telegraphs  (nearly everything in the game is telegraphed with ability mapping)


The bonus of this:  All of these games are moving to Area-of-Effect attacking.  Static ability targeting of a single target is something that is getting phased out in MMO's.   Fewer and fewer single-target abilities are being produced as spells and sword swings hit multiple targets.


The downside is that telegraphs are basically idiot-proofing for a game.  AoE's that are distance ground targeted are kind of an exception.  I'm more talking about the Ogre club smash,  the bull's charge, cannon firing forwards:  those things have animations to them.  Animations are clearly visible and interpretable to those of a average intelligence.  But these thing are getting flashing light shows for the idiots of the world that play the game too, to accommodate their lack of attentive awareness.  


Wildstar is in the red for a reason:  too damned accommodating to stupid people.




The worse thing? people still manage to get hit and die by this crap when there is a BIG RED CIRCLE telling you to stay out of the area. IMO it takes a really special type of person (and not in a good way either) to actually die by this stuff when the game bascally tells you where to avoid standing. I used to facepalm so hard in ff14 when party members would die to stuff like this, same in rift, its like "yeah big red circle or line, move a step or 2 away from it" but no they just stand in it anyway, The problem is in most of these games these telegraphs aren't much of a threat, you may lose half your hp, but you can just be healed up, now if they made the same telegraph pretty much 1 shot you guarnteed (unless maybe if your a tank) if you don't get out of it, people will get it beat into their heads quickly that these are bad to stand in. The problem is most games wait too late to try to beat this into peoples heads, and by then its too late, from what I hear wildstar beats it into you pretty early that standing in those red things is very very bad.

There also is the fact that behind everything, its just another themepark that we are all sick and tired of, with preset paths your not allowed to deviate from and such, I bought wildstar even though I hate the races, quite frankly they look like shit and are horribly designed visually, but I am letting that slide for what may be the first decent mmorpg in years even if it is just another themepark ride. Though mostly its because I got it for 48 bucks off a website (they had a 20% off anything over 20 dollars in the store coupon at the time), and my best friend is running a guild in it I am a part of. If my friend didn't plan to play it, i'd probally not have bothered with the game at all. Whether I stay past the included month or not is another story.

Oh yeah, don't get me wrong, I love me some PvP.  And I have absolutely no problem with getting ganked while questing in a PvP area.  And you are right, there are plenty of players to kill in AA.

I only get annoyed that 50's spawn camping level 30's seems so rampant.  And even if you kill the 50's, it makes no difference, they are back almost immediately, and you wind up having to wait like 90 seconds to spawn because of repeated ganking.



Thats the problem with open pvp games, the playerbase today is full of cowards who won't fight anyone their own level, in fact they will run like a dog with its tail between its legs if anyone who can fight them shows up.

In other news: I'll probally not play AA because it has open pvp, because games with open pvp have terrible community and terrible players infesting them. Nothing but gankers who are too much if a bunch of chickens to fight someone their own level so they pick on people who can't fight back. All I can say is this game is pretty much doomed if this doesn't change. Open pvp games do not make it in todays market much at all in the usa/canada, and its due to the immaturity of the playerbase itself.

These types of open pvp games work in Asia and such because the players there have something the players here don't: respect for one another.  In most mmo's with open pvp in non-usa/canadian countires, they never have these max level camping people half their level problems that plague ones in the us/canada. Its not pvp when all your doing is ganking people half your level, thats just that player being a coward who is to scared to fight anyone their own skill/char level.

Anyway, Unless I can stay out of the pvp area's for the entire game because I cba to bother with those cowards that play in those area's that spawn camp and such, I'll probally not touch AA, and I know I am not the only one who is like this. I like pvp when I have a choice when I want to fight and that the fighting is in a balanced zone (like lv restrictions if above x level you cannot enter said zone, like arena pvp brackets in alot of mmos its like 30-35, 36-40, 41-45 etc), but I dislike it when it is forced on me by a game, especally when its against people who I can't even have a fair fight with that  just spawn camp/kill people half their level all day, its just no fun like this, and if you have fun spawn camping/ganking people half your level, there is something wrong with you, and to me (and many others even the real pvpers who are lv capped and only fight people their own level range) your a coward who is scared of a real fight.

Either way, the immature spawn campers/low lv gankers is what usually kills games with open pvp, people will only take being ganked second they leave town by people they can't even fight back against  for so long before they just get sick of it and just can't be bothered with the game anymore, its caused more than 1 open pvp mmorpg released in recent years to die off and close down due to lack of interest.

Yeah I go tthis issue too, alot of the animations seem really clunky to the point I've seen single person indie games with far better animations, then there is the stupid looking races (all of them). Its not a bad game gameplay wise though, but these issues constantly nag at me as I play wildstar.

I have trouble getting into games when they have no races I like or the animations just look really bad and some of them are akward, like the human exile female hopping around like a bunny when she runs. It just looks really out of place to me.

I'd play it if it was f2p, as long as its not ungodly restricted like swtor is, swtor has so many restrictions the game is hardly playable last time i checked its f2p model.
Might be because its just yet another f2p fps in an already far too crowded market.
I'd honestly rate its Longevity 4/10 myself, mostly due to the lack of any skill builds that have any actual weight, it bascally means there is 0 reason to ever play the same class again once you have it capped, where as in d2/torchlight/titan quest, there are many ways to build your characters, Its a major downside. I have more fun experementing with diffrent builds than I do with finding awesome loot, combining the 2 is why d2 etc is so sucessful compared to d3.
I think a key part of the experence in games like Diablo 2, Torchlight etc is the fact that your character build decisions have some actual weight, I can't count how many times i've made chars in d2 or titan quest to try out some new crazy build idea, d3 just completly throws this out of the window making it feel quite shallow since your just handed everything and cannot really make any sort of build or anything. This is my one major issue with the game, they should have used the d2 skill system insted of what they use now. What they use now makes the game have 0 point to ever play the same class again, vastly reducing its replayability since everytime you make that class its the same cookie cutter skill setup with no real way to change any of it.

To me wildstar is just another wow clone themepark just with a diffrent combat system that is more action oriented, thats all the game really is to me. Well that and the shit character designs for player races with very little customization allowed to be done to the point it feels like some cheap f2p games char customization. I don't know ow anyone can honestly see the game as anything more than the newest themepark wow clone, it is what sells these days with the market dominated by casuals.

Now it being the newest wow-themepark clone doesn't nesscarally make it a bad game, just another mmorpg that feels like you've been there and done that before but they all feel like that these days sadly.

I, Myself have nearly given up on the hope that a mmo will come out that is actually something diffrent from the normal wow clone/themepark setup they all use. As to whether I am going to buy wildstar, well thats still undecided, If I don't like how any of the races look I cannot get into the game, unless they add some body customization sliders I'll probally not bother with wildstar, I hate the whole wasp waist deal the female characters all seem to use. It takes a pretty special skill to make a generic human race in a mmorpg that I don't like, I don't even know how they managed to screw it up so bad.

Anyway I hope this didn't come off on trolling I was just giving my personal opinion of the game, which is that its nothing special really just the newest wow-clone out there, with a tera-like combat system.. Maybe it'd be actually better to say its a Tera clone?

I am wondering is there any free trial or buddy keys for ESO? I am intersted in trying it, but not willing to shell out 60 bucks just to try a mmorpg i may potentally not like. If anyone has one and feel's like sharing (if they exist) it'd be apprecated.

To be honest Wildstar is nothing more than the newest themepark mmorpg like wow and such. Why anyone expected anything diffrent honestly surprizes me. It reminds me of Tera just with clunkier combat and ugly character designs. Mind you I still like the combat, Tera was fun with the combat system they used. Though I think wildstar made it too easy with all the red things telling you where to move to, to avoid the hit. I remember older mmorpg where there was no red circles saying "hey, an aoe is gonna be casted here move out of me to avoid getting hit" and you had to actually use some player skill to avoid mechanics since it wasn't openly shown to you where to dodge to.

It honestly annoys me that even with a big red circle telling you where to move away from that people STILL somehow get hit by these. FF14 comes to mind as a recent example. In ff14 its gotten to the point alot of endgame players will refuse melee dps for things just because of how often they get nailed by pbaoes and such due to laziness. I can see wildstar maybe having the same issue later on. It depends really on how much aoe's the bosses spam.

Combat is only weak is its unmodded, Skyrim has a ton of mods that makes the combat far better, t3nd0s skyrim redone being one of them. Hard hits actually hurt in this due to statis effects and debilitations they can inflict. The diff between ESO and Skyrim is, if you have skyrim on pc, you can use mods to fix most of the bugs and make it a better game. Sadly ESO cannot be modded, so your bascally left with whatever the devs have made for you.

IMO Elder Scrolls and Fallout games are trash on consoles, and godtier on pc due to the mods that can make the game way better than it is. Though nothing can help skyrims stupid as hell main plot/story. I personally though the whole shouting thing to be one of the stupidest mechanics I have seen in a game, it was just silly.

Anyway TL:DR: Games like skyrim/fallout suck if they cannot be modded. Though fallout games suck a little less so compared to Elder scrolls.

I dunno if Imma buy wildstar, to me its just Tera with clunkier combat and horribly shitty character designs. I'd rather just play Tera its free. and the combat is alot better. Honestly it was the horribly bad character designs that really put the nail in the coffin for me, all the girls look like big breasted anorexic bimbo's, and the guys just look stupid period. If the females at least had a waist slider so I could fix them looking anorexic I'd probally buy it. But since they have no real plans to put in body sliders (That I know of, and after release doesn't count) I'll most likely skip it for other mmorpg's. I also have alot of friends who are skipping wildstar solely because of the char designs and how horribad they are. Why they went with this style is beyond me, expecally considering the massive negative feedback its gotten.

I do suspect its a fun game though once you get bad the horribly bad character designs. I liked the humor and stuff I have seen, but the char designs just really pushed me away from the game. Its a shame too, alot of people are pushed away from trying what could be one of the better mmorpgs in years due to the bad character design choices the devs made.

Honestly no mmorpg will fit your terms, mmorpgs today are bascally solo player rpgs with a glorified chat system. Most you will mostly solo to level cap, maybe group for a dungeon or 2 but thats about it. Also I hate to burst your bubble but in most mmorpgs no one talks in party, its one of the downsides to mmo's being brought to casuals. Since you want group play I don't know what to reccomend since most people today just solo to cap doing their rail-like quests. Well one game comes to mind but its kinda old, but people group at all levels. The problem is its a bit of a grinder. Its called Priston Tale, but its about the only thing I can think of where people group up at all levels. Its not the best mmo by far but it has a unique sense of getting stronger as you level. Usually when you enter a new area you get wrecked, but as you lv and upgrade gear you notice your killing faster and also getting hit for less.

I think for most mmo's these days they think of soloability first and then grouping is sort of a afterthought, aside from the one dungeon per level bracket they usually have. So yeah, I don't really know what to reccomend.

I I'm not really looking forward to any mmo, not Wildstar or this, because they both are just another themepark mmo, where you go quest hub to quest hub like a trained rat going for cheeze thru tubes. Unless ESO really IS very sandboxy I'll probally not buy it. The fact crafters make the best gear though has me intersted a bit at least, though it will still be the same kill raid boss, except this time its for materials insted of already made items.

I'm not hyped up for the game in the least myself, but I may check it out eventually out of boredom, but I don't expect much from mmorpgs these days, they've been letdowns for years, and I don't expect ESO or Wildstar to be any diffrent to be honest. Just remember box sales mean next to nothing in a mmorpg, look at SWTOR, tons of box sales but the game was pretty much dead a month or so after release till it went f2p.

Heh true, I personally cannot stand wildstars character designs they are god aweful. The world itself is fine but the player races all look like shit so I am having a hard time enjoying the game. I'm picky about my chars looks, if I don't like the char models I just don't get into the game, I'm a exile human and it bascally looks like a redneck hick stick figure with tits, not that the other races fare much better. For me to like them they just need better faces and a waist slider so the chars don't look anorexic as hell, Way to thin.

I'd have to say yes, Take ff14 for instance, most of the boss fights are very easy as long as your able to dodge stuff that has a big red thing on the ground telling you what to dodge, however SO many players about 95% of them just completly fail at this, I mean its not that hard to mvoe a few steps to the side when you see an aoe circle under you.

Same issue persists in rift but its not nearly as bad as ff14. So yeah I feel mmorpg's are dumbed down like crazy now, but alot of players just seem to be getting worse at playing them. Its a sad trend. Been many instances in ff14 where we lost a boss fight only because someone was to lazy or stupid to move out of the aoe.
