This game is a big pile of misleading shit! Why would they call that an MMO. Heck even APB allowed you to play with others, even though it was only 50vs50. The movement in Triad Wars is clunky and stubborn. It feels lonely and boring.

I hope an AAA dev or even indie makes an MMO in a city and allows you to play with thousands of people. I'm so sick of these medieval games that keep on popping out everywhere. Check the game list, 70% of the games are medieval games. The rest is sci-fi. And a few real life games, but none of them come close to a GTA MMO.

I too have been looking for a good sandbox to play. My ideal sandbox would be a GTA style mmo set in a huge sprawling metropolis with thousands of other players in it at the same time. Only thing the slightly resembles this is APB but that is only 50vs50 per server. And Triad Wars (another GTA clone) calls itself an MMO but that game is no where near an MMO. You can't even play with other players on the same map. Not even a co-op feature. I still haven't figured out why  AAA devs haven't made an MMO set in a real life city with cars and pedestrians etc. They keep making these stupid dragon, elves, armor, swords bullshit played out MMOs. H1Z1 comes close to that but the town in that game is to small compared to a metropolis.

As for your list of requirements, good luck. The game dev companies make games based only on how much profit it will make them. They do not make games based on what players want. Indie devs do try to make games players want. It is way easier for a dev to make a themepark game because it is easier to maintain and control than a sandbox game.

GW 2 is a pure themepark, and so is ESO. I honestly thought that ESO would follow in the singleplayer games like Skyrim and Oblivion. But alas ESO is 100% themepark.

Your gonna have to wait a few more months/years. Apparently only up until a few years ago development companies realized the majority of MMO users are getting sick of themeparks. There should be alot more sandboxes coming out in the future, but it is a slow wait.

To the game development company that actually makes a GTA style MASSIVE multiplayer online game, and by massive i mean a shit load of people playing in the same city at the same time. That game will be so popular because there isn't any type of game like that on the market except for APB. And APB is only 50 vs 50 in the same city. We need a GTA style mmo with thousands of players in it, in a sprawling living city complete with cars and explorable building interiors. This Triad Wars bullshit is utterly annoying. Calling it an online game is complete bullshit. And the even shittier part of this is that this game won't be discontinued because the hardware needed to keep this game "online" is minimal which means very low cost for the lying developers to keep it running. MAKE A REAL MMO YOU DUMBASSES!!! This game is a steaming pile of misleading shit. Its an online game but you can't play with others?? What kind of shit is that?

I also agree with wiping. Format it, install drivers and then Avast Anti-Virus. Make sure you have the drivers for at least the network controller so that way when u are finished installing the O/S you can install the network driver and then download the rest of the hardware drivers afterwards.

I rarely get viruses but sometimes shit happens. Only surefire way to get rid of them is a format. You can run scans and whatnot but format for sure gets rid of it. The sucky part is reinstalling all the stuff you had before. Some games are like 15+ GB download.

Good luck.

Its a GTA Clone, always online single player game. You can raid other players spots but you can not interact with other live players, ever. Its basically a single player GTA game with an online leaderboard. When you are raiding another players base you are fighting NPCs. And usually the raid is on a short timer, if it runs out you fail the raid.

Other players bases are randomly placed on the city map. If you log out and log back in, then another set of player bases are placed on the map etc.

The game is heavy on the graphics card and the controls seem clunky. Its fun at first but gets boring after a while. If they would make it so that at lease 500 players can interact in the same city that would give it more appeal,

GTA San Andreas Multiplayer allows upto 1000 players in the same city at the same time. I would play that but the graphics are so outdated. I wish someone would mod GTA 4 to make it MMO like. GTA 5 Online is still only 16 players versus 16. In such a huge city and only 32 players can play together, doesn't make sense.

Triad Wars deems itself as an online game, but it very much feels like a single player game. It is in closed beta, maybe in the future United Front Games will add at least a co-op option. Or let players interact in the same city instance.

Triad Wars beta key giveaway here: http://bit.ly/1FNgQFC

I used a URL shrinker because its a long link.

Its a closed beta so there will be a wipe at the end. The game is set to release late spring / early summer. It is an online game but I am not sure if its an MMO or a lobby game. I am currently downloading it now, will finish in 2 hours.

I am particularly excited about this game because its a GTA clone. The game features a remake of the city of Hong Kong, its open world and sandbox. You play a criminal that has to rise to the top running a gang and doing crimes. The game tries to emulate the gang culture in Hong Kong with the Triads gang in particular. Its the successor to Sleeping Dogs now with online play. Massive player populace I hope.

I am hoping this is a massive online game set in a big city. I have been waiting over a decade for a massive online metropolis MMO. Only one that was released was APB and it only allowed 100 players per city.

I have to wait for the download to finish to see if its what I been waiting for. A massive online MMO set in a big city. Basically GTA with thousands of other people playing with you in the city. Keeping my fingers crossed.

I made a post on this site about this last month. I am really hoping its a GTA Clone + MMO. The client is either 4.5 gigs, 5 gigs or 6 gigs.

Have fun!

*UPDATE*

Its not a massive online GTA Clone. Its an action game with MMO elements. No synchronous play with other people.

Damn!!! When are these game dev companies gonna make a massive online GTA Clone!!!!

Skyrim = sandbox

Skyrim isn't a sandbox.  The overwhelming majority of content is static and unchanging.  It's developer-created themepark rides for you to ride on.  Writing addons is sandbox content.  Stacking cheese wheels is sandbox.  A handful of quests which make very minor changes to the game world are....well, they're sandbox enough.  But the majority of the game is themepark content.

Remember that while most sandboxes are open world, not all open world games are sandboxes.  Sandbox means player authorship (you know, sand that you can change.)

But back on topic, what sandbox or MMORPG even has a smaller world than Skyrim?  Skyrim's world isn't all that big, and I can't think of a single MMORPG (sandbox or not) which has a smaller world.

All the Elder Scroll games are sandbox, except of Elder Scrolls Online which is 100% themepark.

I started playing MMOs when Ultima Online was out, which is also 100% sandbox and one of the pioneers in MMOs and sandbox games. I am molded into playing sandbox games, and I know exactly what a sandbox game is. Skyrim IS sandbox. After you do the escape from dungeon part in the beginning of Skyrim, you are free to do whatever you want ingame. You do not have any particular direction to follow. And almost any action you do in Skyrim progresses your character. Alot of people define the main features of sandbox is open world and being able to modify the world, which I think is wrong. The two main features that define sandbox in my opinion is: 1) No particular direction to follow. 2) Skill based (more like any action you do can progress you character).

Being able to modify the world doesn't mean sandbox.

You should play Ultima Online if you want to get a true sandbox experience. There was really nothing in UO that let you modify the world except for placing houses or items. Yet Ultima Online is a true sandbox 100%.

Example: Skyrim = Huge World

Skyrim = sandbox

How else do you think a game company is suppose to get money back for all the time spent making the game?? D3 is going through on going development and before release it took Blizzard 6 years to develop vanilla D3. Complaining about games having Cash Shops is what I think is ignorant. All the time spent making the game, maintaining it and adding new content warrants the need for a cash shop. And this goes for all games that have cash shops.

To all the people that hate this way of thinking and monetizing content, you people all live in a dream world. It takes alot of manpower to make a game and even more to maintain it. Especially triple A games. I think most of the people complaining about this have no idea the manpower, money and planning it takes to make games for the masses.

[mod edit]

LMFAO I didn't think people would actually reply to my post...LMFAO!!

Hey guys I found the perfect song to listen to while we wait for a top of the line, AAA developed, sandbox, no level, non linear, open world, no quests, best crafting, non instanced, player housing, f2p, no cash shop MMO.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9FOz-pD4AI0

The lyrics to this song pretty much sum up how i feel about all these medieval themepark MMOs out now.

Are there any "MMORTS" that exists now that don't make you wait days or weeks for your buildings to upgrade or complete building??

I doubt it.

Hi I just recently got back into Eve. I use to play years ago and got enough skills to get a Hulk for solo mining. CCP changed the hulk and it is not viable for solo mining. I have a retriever and I have ventured off into 0.6 - 1.0 sec to mining ores. I can mine all day but one thing I hate is how long it takes to fill the retriever's ore hold. I mean 1 hour of mining equals anywhere from 3 million to 10 million ISK. I don't like the fact that the mining cannon timer takes so long to finish even though the asteroid is depleted way before the timer on the mining laser finishes.

With that being said, I don't like missions or quests in any online game, I started mmo's back in 1996. I was a hardcore UO player and that molded me into hating questing and missions. UO had no quests and wasn't linear. Eve isn't linear but it seems the only way to make significant ISK per hour as a solo player is grinding missions. The passive aspect of sitting at my seat and mining is more alluring than the clicking frenzy that missions in Eve require especially with the higher tier missions. For kicks I did a L1 mission in a drake I had from my last period of playing years ago, and it was something like 20 npcs to kill and it took about 1 hour and it was alot of clicking.

Is there anyway around this. I like mining but I cannot sit at my PC and wait 1 hour for the mining to finish and only get 3 million ISK (Veldspar). I can go to lower sec and miner rarer ores, which is a better option but it still take long. People have suggested watching movies while I wait, but I don't watch movies. I would join a corp and do fleet mining but there is always a chance of War Declaration and can get pvped and  I lose my stuff. If I was making worthy ISK it would be so bad to lose my stuff.

Is there anyway/skills to speed up mining in my retriever? Is there any activities other than, manufacturing, missions or mining that can generate significant ISK per hour as a semi-new player?

I would like mining alot more if the ore hold on the retriever/mackinaw wouldn't take so damn long to fill up.

I feel the exact same way. I downloaded a whole bunch of big name games this past month and last month. Can't find anything i like. If it has quests and linear gameplay I uninstall. Last one was ESO, what a themepark that game is. Got rid of it quick. I'm wondering if there is any 3D MMO with modern graphics that have no quests, non linear, no levels etc out now. 99.7 percent of MMOs have these "features".

Only true sandbox I am thinking about is Eve, but don't want to wait weeks for my skills to increase.

This isn't anything remotely new... Everquest 2 had this many many years ago and WoW also has this.

I agree it isn't a new concept, FusionFall was released in 2006 and had it.

I downloaded a few games in the last few weeks:

Marvel Heroes

Nosgoth

Zombie Monsters Robots

Entropia Universe

PlanetSide 2

SWTOR

H1Z1

FireFall

The Secret World

DC Universe

ArcheAge

Fallen Earth

There were a few others ones I tried out, none of them and the ones above had streaming downloading. The only one that did that had it was Tera.

I recall installing Battle.net to download D3, StarCraft 2 and HearthStone. I i'm pretty sure D3 didn't allow me to stream download. I uninstalled Battle.net and all their games, along with most of the games I listed. I'm now curious to see if D3 has it, ill try it out again.

I'm sure I wasn't disconnected. Normally a game that size does take a long while to download.

I didn't know Warcraft had that feature, and I also didn't know the Turbine games had this.

Usually its something I look for when finding a new game to play. I remember in 2007 when I tried FusionFall it had that feature. And I tried Tera out last week, was happy they had streaming download as an option.

For those of you that don't know what streaming downloading is, it lets you download the game while playing. The launcher downloads the first 2GB - 4GB and then it allows you to play the game while the rest of it downloads in the background.

The only games I remembered that had this feature is Tera and Fusionfall.

SWTOR is like a 35GB download and ESO is like a 40GB download. There are countless of other MMOs out now and being released that are over 15GB download.

I think game companies should start implementing streaming downloads in their games. My connection isn't that slow, but still, I went to download ESO to get back into it. I left it running from 11pm to 10am the next day and it was at only 70% then.

It would be better for all players especially new ones to be able to stream download these huge games. It would be harder to implement this in all the existing game out now, some might not even be able to support this due to the way the game was compiled.

Just my thoughts.

I think in order for there to be a big change in the MMO genre, there has to be a change in the way we access and play the MMOs. As an example, virtual reality. Right now its still accessed with the inputs of keyboard, and mouse/game joystick, and monitor. With the implementation of VR in the future that COULD offer a change in the way we all view MMOs.

I think every idea, or almost every idea has been done in the many different MMOs we see today. There is only so much you can do idea wise in a MMO. I believe technology/hardware plays a role in this limitation. Of course there will be new innovative ideas that will hit the genre scene. But most devs see something successful and copy it. I hardly see any new ideas being made for games these days. Its the same re-skins of past games redone and repackaged, give or take a few features.

Cool, I'll check it out, but as long as the laggy NPCs are still an issue, I won't be playing lol.

I play this game too. I like thumping but recently ever since I got to lvl 15 my experience significantly lowered to 900 xp when thumping with stock personal thumper. People told me to thump in different areas so ill try that when I play.

The one thing I do not like about Firefall is the map design.  I think they over did it with all the mountains, cliffs and rocks laying around. I would have liked it more if the terrain was flatter.

Weird, I used to just run around and do the tornados and random events, but it's all changed now from beta. Since it released on steam though, I've been getting weird NPC lag like this: http://youtu.be/4DbFFInFgaY?t=37s

I miss the beta! I use to thump 5 hours a day lol. I'm a Bastion so all I did was lay down turrets and go afk. The amount of resource I accumulated was insane. But I heard they revised the crafting and got rid of all the different types of resources. If I would have attended some event that transfers the resources to crystite I would be rich in game now. I wasn't around for it.

I saw the youtube video...if that lag happens every time you play then it could be your ISP or internet connection. I don't get lag like that. OR it could be the server, its one server for the whole player base.
