I played the open beta over Thanksgiving.  The game was on my Christmas list, but I removed it after the beta.  I'm looking for an open world game, a sandbox.  I want to feel like the world is REAL.  I enjoyed SWG because I could play and not do missions.  There were other things happening.  You could work on building entertainment skills or doctor skills, etc.  And I did like having a home and miss that in WoW, which I  play btw.   Just saying SWTOR didn't meet my expectations. 

IMO, by FAR the best game EVER!  Uploaded some pics to my gallery.  RIP SWG.

When I look at this game I see DC Universe Online. Big hype, nice looking trailers, lots of talk from Dev team... and then fail when it's out.

Funny how the game was promising enough to preorder and since its only gotten better over time, the fact you don't like it now without any reason makes it quite obvious you are trolling. I really don't care, but just wanted to point out the obvious.

Ok, do you want some reasons?

• Animations look bad.
• Characters look like Pixlar characters, small legs huge chest and big heads. Clone Wars serie look 150 times better.
• Combat look boring.
• Combat effects.... hate what I see. Star, lights, numbers... too much crap for me. Look like a game for 3 years olds.

And i don't like that the game force you to go here and there and do this and that. The freedom to explore seem to be poor. And when you blow up something to change the world it don't change anything, someone else will do the same 1 min later... and evil or good seem useless.

I don't like the Huttball and the other PvP areas I have seen, seem boring.

I don't like the cloths and the weapons are freaking huge and ulgy. Also the monsters look like poo and the AI seem to be a bit stupid.

Too much fluff in this game. Look too childish for me.

I think Bioware are doing same misstake like Funcom did with AoC. They talk and talk about how great and epic everything is... then it will fail.

Okay, I did play it.  The entire 4 day weekend.  And I think Mr. Shredder's assessment is pretty accurate.  I was very disappointed.  You can't go anyplace without having a fight.  And enemies attack in fours (4).  You can't draw off one at a time they are linked together.  The female characters all have the same body with different clothes and hair.  There is no freedom to explore.  I was hoping for an open world.  The ONLY thing I liked about the game was the companion.  That was a good idea.  I prefer to play solo so my assessment is all based on solo play.

Great article and great comments!  I am looking forward to SW:TOR coming out, but I am not jumping up and down with excitement.  I am an SWG (preCU/NGE) fan and I am not expecting this to be ANYTHING like that.  If I even dared to compare them I would be disappointed.  I have not pre-paid, cuz I usually wait 'til after all the hype, watch a few Youtube videos of it, then buy the game and try it out.

I plan to buy it.  I'm thinking the few remaining SWG players will probably try it.  Especially since they won't have SWG any longer.  I'm hoping it turns out to be a great game.

Still playing UO and WoW.  Having fun while waiting for SWTOR and GW2.

I have been paying to play UO since December 1997.  I don't want better graphics, I enjoy the 2D!  :)

Also, make sure you're not building your character on Siege Perilous.  You can buy but not sell on that shard.  I have been playing UO since it came out in 1997 and I still enjoy it.  I think it's the only good sandbox game out there these days.  I play the original 2D version. 

I will buy it because I like Star Wars and am hoping the game is great to play.  Now, don't disappoint me, BioWare.

Good post.  I think you did a great job explaining  the trademark points of a sandbox game.  The post is pretty balanced and since I prefer sandbox to themepark, I am happy  to say that I agree with your comments.  I find it disappointing that there are not more sandbox choices out there.

I do dream about my mmo's, but I wouldn't refer to them as nightmares.  The weirder/scarier the dream, the better. :)

Hmmm...I would say the game that got me really hooked on computer gaming was King's Quest in 1986 on a PC Jr! LOL.  Mode 40 screen.  I much prefer the online games of today with sandbox being my favorite type.  If it's fun, I'll play whatever I can find.  I rotate between WoW, UO, EQII Extended, GW, and Rift. Waiting for SW:ToR to arrive.
