You might want to fix the spelling in violence, Red...

As mentioned previously, there are several issues hampering an MMO truly set in the "Old West". Certainly in today's atmosphere of political correct sensitivities, it would be very hard to properly incorporate the element of Native Americans without being offensive (to someone), even if the "faction" was evenly balanced.

However, there is plenty of lore available to leave out that aspect completely and base an MMO entirely on the frontier towns, gold rushes, settlers, lawmen, bandits, bounty hunters, thieves, and murderers. Fallen Earth (minus the mutation powers) already has that sort of feel, with a balance of melee, pistols, and rifles. The magnificent HBO series Deadwood could be a good template for developing characters (Al Swearengen never used a gun), especially since the Native Americans played almost no role in the main plot of the series...

Additionally, the genre need not limit itself to the American West, as there are quite few very good Australian films based on the same time period (see: The Proposition, for example).  Even a bit of the 60's show Wild, Wild West or The Adventures of Brisco County Jr. might not be too outrageous (although alien orbs might be too much)  :)

I would think it would necessarily be at least an open-world sort of thing, although FFA PvP would be a deal-breaker for many, the consequences in a settled area might be severe indeed and temper the frustration of new players. Incorporating historical figures might lend some more colour to the entire affair...the Earps, James Gang, the Cowboys, etc.

Make no mistake, despite the amateurish efforts mentioned previously and already undertaken, there will be a quality MMO that more faithfully adheres to the spirit and history of the West...eventually.

I've written content for network television news for years. I like MMORPG, and recognize that some of these things come with the territory, but when the headline crosses the line into sensationalism and borderline Libel, I take exception. I have my own reservations about what is happening with Star Citizen, but allowing a topic with such a heading to reach the masses is completely irresponsible, at best.

I expect more from the editors (and you, Suzi Ford) who defended it.

No "Taming of the Shrew" reference, since She-Hulk discarded the inherent initial savagery to become a respected attorney, and I don't care for the misogynistic elements in my gaming. Additionally, I like the objectivity in her views on the Superhuman Registration Act...which has been problematic in the MU for quite a while...

Doomsaw (Gazillion) actually took the time and effort to respond to the OP on not one, but two, external forums to explain that it was likely the tone more than the content that resulted in the muted posts, and admitted the system was going to be improved. I only need to see that continued tone persistently on display here in this forum to understand what drew the action in the first place.

Try decaf, mate...

Mods please sticky this review and ignore the rest...
Since we no longer have a WoD  MMO to look forward to, I thought I'd pass along that Amazon currently has a sale ($5 USD NA only) on the PC download for Vampire: The Masquerade -- Bloodlines. Although it was released 10 years ago (in a buggy state no-less) it has been continuously updated and modded by a dedicated community (just do a Google search for mods for the game). It is well worth playing for those who want the best World of Darkness experience we are likely to have for a long time.

^ couldn't have said it better myself...

Hey OP...I suppose because your EULA credit card thread got locked, you had to find something else negative to say. What on earth do you actually spend your free-time doing?...Do you actually play any MMO, or just bash want you don't like?

...and people wonder why at every college campus (and in HS with debit cards) there are credit card companies ready to have teens sign their life away...

Before posting, try to understand how subscriptions work in MMO's, understand your rights as a consumer, and don't post about EULA's that you try to interpret as if you were the lawyer that drew it up.

Not a single person will be charged in May if they cancel their sub before the billing date. This is such common practice, I find it hard to believe so many believe (or are duped into believing) otherwise, despite the all posts with bold type-face, quotes, and colored text.

The 24-hour news cycle, constant input from everything including Twitter and FB means almost everyone not taking over-dose amounts of Ritalin or Adderall means most people can no longer endure: more traditional pacing, reading text/quest dialogue, taking time to explore, craft, or enjoy the game that was actually developed

If after 4 days, you are almost half the level cap, and are bored and think that's too slow, then play something else. There are many, MANY other games to cater to your tastes...and there is nothing wrong with that!

any trees etc actually on your claim can be removed by right-clicking on them and selecting "delete" from the pop-up menu...

(don't worry...many others did not know that trick, either!)

have fun :)

As previous posters said, Wildstar is "FUN"! I enjoy realistic-looking games and those from many other genres. I'm having fun in ESO, and still play STO, and FFXIV...the point is that I'm having a good time in WS, and that's all that should matter.

If you don't appreciate the art style, or mechanics, then by all means...don't play it. But I make a point of PLAY when I'm not doing more cumbersome or mundane real-world activities. Even video/PC games are art these days...some I like, and some I don't...but I don't demean or criticise those who disagree. :)

Card is not charged now anyway...

The problem for a lot of people is that the card was being charged an "authorization charge" equal to the sub fee you chose -- in the US for most people $14.99 or whatever. In theory that money will be refunded in a few days, depending on your bank, but it was rather unexpected to a lot of people.

..for very, very few people  (those complaining here) in which case there is no harm regardless, except for the emotional panic some feel when they don't understand how such charges work (especially in the case of American Express, where most of these misunderstandings took place)...

This fee in not refunded "in theory"..it is common practice for many things, from hotel rooms to other online purchases...welcome to the 21st century :)

I'm just not certain how this is such a big deal...sign up for sub-plan (in my case with the same credit card info with which I bought the game)...wait to see if it warrants another month...or three...

Card is not charged now anyway...if i can't look at a calendar and cancel at the appropriate time if I change my mind, I probably can't complete most of the quest chains or craft worth a damn anyway.

Managing monthly bills is NOT a difficult task, especially when we've not even been charged yet. How much hand-holding is needed?

fail post on so many levels...

A "fair" review, although (as mentioned previously), the space combat really shines and is the biggest draw for many.

Also mentioned, the Foundry provides and endless amount of content, both for those who want only combat, to long and involved stories, real RPG elements etc.

As a lifetime subscriber and active player for almost the entire four years, I can say that I have spent many hundreds of dollars investing in everything from costumes to ships that cost more than $50, depending on how I wanted to acquire them. Even so, one of my primary captains is using a "Mirror" ship bought off the exchange for almost nothing (20 minutes of work to earn the EC for it). At no time even in Elite STF missions does a level 50 character with decent gear acquired through gameplay need to feel like they cannot succeed.

Whilst I appreciate the time taken to "re-review" a game that sorely needed a fresh look, the bottom-line is that in a F2P game with one the most fair and generous models in the market...anyone who has a bit of space on their hard drive and a few hours to invest in having a go should do that and see for themselves whether the game is something they would enjoy!

I tortured myself for several days whether to pre-order the Imperial Edition, which would have cost the same as the basic download with the GMG voucher this weekend, but ultimately have decided to wait. I believe this game has great promise, but am VERY upset with the lack of transparency from Zenimax and what appears to be a good deal of conflict between developers and publishers. The suits in charge of this (rushed) project clearly have no idea whatsoever how powerful the internet can be, and the reluctance to lift the NDA only diminishes the strength of the game in its current state.

It's really a shame this IP has been so badly managed by the developers who have clearly meant well, but have been hamstrung by those without a clue how to properly market an Elder Scrolls MMO in the long-term.

I used the previous iteration of the Razer Naga, and it failed after about six months. I replaced it the the Logitech G600, which I found more preferable personally. It also pairs beautifully with the Logitech G13 Gameboard (and I can also use the flexible Logitech software for both pieces). Both wrists are eternally grateful, and literally the only time I use the keyboard any longer (for all games, not just MMO's) is to type in chat when not on TeamSpeak.

I think a similar entertainment analogy can be found in television...

the expansion of premium (e.g. HBO, Showtime) and good cable networks (e.g. FX and AMC) was supposed to signal the end for the core networks...in America anyway. Instead, we have a significant increase in content that appeals to a wider audience, but also dilutes the participation (viewership) for most singular programs.

Now, we have those who still can watch decent quality television for (basically) free on the networks, and then another demographic that chooses to pay for expanded cable service (for those that want/wanted to watch Breaking Bad or Justified), and then another group that is willing to pay even more for the premium content (Game of Thrones, Homeland).

The MMO game industry is not terribly different in the current form. If you want to pay more, then you will have more options. This is the way the free-market system is supposed to work. Unfortunately, this kind of competition means quality products die (e.g. Glitch and Firefly).

The MMO as a genre will not die anytime soon, but will continue to evolve based on the developers' ability to adapt to the desires of the audience they  seek to entice.
