Forced grouping wasn't in FFXI from the start? I definitely came at the wrong time. I couldn't find anyone to group with and I'll gladly solo if it's a game I like and can get somewhere. I finally chucked it after 4 attempts and my discs met mr. garbage man.... |

I have to agree with Autodidact82. Dec, on the other hand, seems to change his opinions with each and every post so his annoying opinions are worthless. Most of the 12 year olds on here are missing the point that SOE saved this game for whatever it was worth. They have spent more money on it since acquisition than you will make in your lifetime in the hopes of getting $14.95 out of your grubby little hands. If they hadn't bought this game and made large strides in making it playable, do you think you would even have this game to play right now? Yes thanks to the whiners and complainers and bitchers, they have made a bad situation worse by scaring off people with their complaining and then wonder where why their server seems lifeless. By the sound of that article referenced earlier, you should get on Microsoft for doing a McQuaid and bailing back in the critical stages of development instead of stepping up and taking charge. End result: enjoy what you have and wait for the improvements.

Wow the amount of ignorance here amazes me. If you are not sure of Brad McQuaid;s "involvment" with EQ you should try to find the book "Everquest Companion" and read... Then you can laugh at the previous posts with me ;)

Thunderballs obviously didn't play from day one launch. I left WoW because of people with attitudes just like his. |

This is the article I read it in; it is on mmorpg.com
http://www.mmorpg.com/gamelist.cfm/gameId/253/setView/features/loadFeature/661
I would love for this to be old info - I'm all ready there anyway, but this would be great. Personally, I don't see how it can't be free flight if you can battle in the air; you have to be able to move wherever you want to; which is sorta free flight...? ALso the article mentions as of the build that was current as of that article. Also, I agree with Cynthe as far as the art style, but I'm more of the armor set in this.... I like the styles the korean devs come up with... ala FFXI. The Opaline sets there for the females are hot and a fave (no, I'm not an mmo perv).... |

Hey there... let me see if I can find that info for you; check back in 15 mins or so. Yah it was kind of a downer for me too... may have even have been an article on here! The lack of free flight was in a dev interview. Now mind you, he did say they were looking into possibly making it free flight later, but it wasnt slated for the initial release - unless that's changed. I can't stake my life on this one but will check. |

Wow, that's massive misinformation; not to mention news that's older than my cat. An OP should know better. It was the station pass fee as verified above. |

Finally I found people that agree with me. Unlike the other company's major announcement, EQ2 and it's expansions really deliver. Call me a fanboi, I see it coming, but it's still the best value and it's showing in the upswing in numbers online. At least you get a quality expansion every year now, you also get rewards for time played and you don't have to wait 2 years for a total disappointment and pay $50 for it. This flavor of EQ is also I believe, one of the few, if any mmo's SOE has actually had control of from the very beginning, so they aren't as lame as others portray them to be. They just need more people trained to spot a bad investment to avoid another Vanguard. |

Yup on the VG, but again, that wasn't SOE's fault other than not being more in Sigil's faces from the get go. They trusted Sigil to deliver a game and gave them 5 months to run it before realizing they'd been had. Luckily EQ2 is probably the best mmorpg we'll ever see that's not a Blizzard clone of pvp only. The pvp mentality stifles creativity and delivers nothing everyone keeps claiming they want in an mmo. Any developer can simply create a bunch of nice instances with very little else and people can just go pvp with no story line, nothing. My friend at work has an 11 year old son that lives on WoW now... he loves it... nuff said. However, I do agree with the card game thing... it wasnt much of an announcement, I all ready have a card for my 3 year vet reward I guess, but the expansion a year promise is awesome and the expansions for EQ2 have been phenomenal. |

Lol not really.... but then again I guess 1 person is a population. From the news out of Fan Faire it's just about dead - no plans for a relaunch, the server mergers are it - it's sink or swim from here on out. I put my box away as a momento and continue on with EQ2 - you can't beat it. With their promise of an expansion a year, and with the quality of the expansions always high and the awesome extras they offer their players, I'm staying there. |

Aion seems like a really cool game with some interesting new concepts! I only play EQ1 and EQ2 (Blizzard is forever on my hit list sorry). However, the flying was the biggest attention getter for me, but found out a couple of things that made me a little wary... however I will still play this at launch (hopefully beta - I'm signed up for it). Flying only lasts a certain amount of time, after which you will float to the ground. Also, flying will only be possible along set flight paths, not free flight - that's a real downer. But the game seems to be worth a try and it's a definite for me! |

How unexciting. But, you've all heard the news, so thank god it's over and you can all go home. I live a 10 minute walk from Anaheim Convention Center's entrance and all of the Blizz peeps have made my neighborhood a nightmare. It's over, go see Dland and go home. |

LOL! Aw c'mon.... you have to have people to prop up the game and keep it profitable or no one is going to have this game to play... there will still be challenges for the higher ups. If you're playing now, you have a head start and can stay ahead of the newbs and newb isle. |

Well word out of the fan faire in Vegas is that Smedley's keynote speach made zero mention of Vanguard; yet he mentioned most of the other games in the SOE stable. I think that, along with the mysterious EQ2 voucher postcards with the free software and playtime may a sign that VG is either going out the window or they are scaling back via server mergers to see if there's anything to save. This is the VG community's chance to stop posting all the negative comments and "I'm leaving" threads that are probably telling SOE the game is dead and post positive critique. If they keep seeing all the I'm leaving stuff they are going to assume it's a dead horse. And on the SOE is going to slow, SOE ruined VG, they had nothing to do with it and are losing a fortune themselves. Remember, Sigil had control over it through nearly the first 4 1/2 months of live time. It should appear to anyone with a shred of an IQ that SOE had no clue and sat back and watched the horror unfold - hence jumping in to try to save a sinking ship. They were probably given the historic McQuaid rhetoric of "it's ready and it's awesome" jive so lay off SOE. They've lost a heck of alot more than any of us. Personally if I was calling the shots at SOE, I'd pull the software from the shelves and let the remaining community stay on free to test updates and fixes until it's ready to go. A relaunch if it seems feasible down the road may have a good shot because the publicity all ready generated by this would grab people's attention. EQ2 almost met a similar fate, but it wasn't so much bugs as it was just a bit too heavy for people's machines at the time (sound famliar). |
