O.o No way Final Fantasy even compares to game of thrones. I love both final fantasy and game of thrones, but Final Fantasy Arr can not compare to game of throne's epicness.  The story I played in the beta(i know its just beta) was forgettable, and barely passed as a story(TO ME =D). The game play is not the most epic I have ever played either. Game of thrones on the other hand I would go so far as to say is now one of my favorite books of all time. I have read all the books out, and watched every episode available. Unless ARR can somehow make me cry like game of thrones has, or give me the same elation as Daenerys, or make me laugh as much as Tyrion  there is no way it can even compare.

Don't get me wrong Arr is pretty nice looking and I will for sure play, but you cant compare the two.

Not everyone paying his college fees gets As and degrees.

^ This, right here, should  end the thread.

No more needs to be said. Absolutely true.

Its not a bad analogy but not a good business one when the outcome is trivial - see what you get in college or university usually matters for the rest of your life so you'll stick it out even if you just get a pass. In games it matters nothing so people can just unsub and the devs have a heart attack. If everyone that didn't get an "A" left in their first semester then Universities would be in crisis - somehow there exists an environment where people are too scared to do that. Probably supply and demand again driven by the importance.

I don't agree people should get the highest achievement given they have access but not sure how to ensure the system works when the motivation to keep the average playing isn't significant enough.

Maybe Golf is a better analogy. I pay my fee for a round but that doesn't guarantee me a score. I also cant nerf the course but I can complete it an get a score. Maybe getting a score type of thing is what gear should be driven by etc e.g time trials for raids as in the challenge mode dungeons in WoW. i.e everyone gets to do it and you can take as long as you want but you get a greater reward the faster you do it. Or something along those lines.

I don't think faster is the way to go, Time is not the only way to challenge somebody. The way to go would be to have certain parts more challenging. Make it so you have to do the dance so perfectly that one mistake will throw it all off. Along with that you should have the easy parts, so everybody can do them. Making people want to rush through something encourages the wrong type of game play I think.

Totally agree with you, except for the $15 a month part. I want to have access to everything in a game, I don't want to pay $15 for 1/2 and another $15 for the other half. Other than that, I enjoy when activities take time. The more time you spend on something the more valuable your accomplishment becomes to you. On the other hand, when they say something like, you can only do this 2 times a week, that's not fun. That would be like a Disney world only letting you ride the funnest rides 2 times. instead they should let you waste as much time on as few rides as you would like. If I want to ride one ride over and over till the weekend is over, plz let me. If I want to Raid, let me raid as many times as I like, don't restrict me to 2 times a week..

To be honest. I think ARR is a great game and I have had fun playing it.

Unfortunately the entire subscription thing is old fashioned and I just don't enjoy that feeling of "Well I paid for a month. I need to play it now." I guess im a casual? Whatever I don't care about naming it.

I see this said a lot, and I never understand it. It just seems so backwards to me.

You should be paying for something because you enjoy it and want to partake in it. You shouldn't be feeling you 'need to' partake in something because you're paying for it. Phrases like "obligated to" or "need to" should not factor in when it comes to something you're doing voluntarily because you enjoy it.

If it comes back to the "well, I feel like if I'm not playing enough, then I'm not getting my money's worth", then I don't get that either, because it's such a nebulous point of view. It seems to be based on looking at the cost as a lump sum without regard of how it breaks down. And anyway what's "enough"? Is there some specific number of hours required to be "enough"? Is it more of a non-specific "feeling" thing? If so, how do you even begin to quantify that?

For example... If you're paying $15 a month on a sub (XIV is cheaper than that), then you're paying about 50 cents a day. Half a dollar for 24 hours of "all you can eat" access.  That's one way of looking at it.

Another way to break it down is by  hour.

Let's be extremely conservative and say you only play 4 hours a week. That's 16 hours in a month. That comes out to just under a dollar per hour.  I don't think anyone would call that a bad deal. And that's a very conservative example.

Let's take my situation as a slightly more "normal" example (and probably still on the conservative side). I play about 2-3 hours at a stretch, roughly 5 days a week. Sometimes less, sometimes more.

Let's be conservative and say 2 hours per session, 5 days a week. That's 10 hours a week,  40 hours a month. That means I'm paying about 37 cents an hour. Thirty-seven cents for an  hour of entertainment. And that's based on more conservative figures.

How could anyone call that a bad deal with a straight face?

People tend to worry about "not getting their money's worth" when they're not playing, when it really makes far more sense to think of how little you're paying per hour when you are playing.

It's all perspective.

You sir are awesome. Not to mention you get the whole game for that cheap, not just parts of the game.

Yes please no free to play, Please don't make me enjoy 1/2 a game unless I spend endless amounts of money in a cash shop. I'd rather pay a sub and not worry about weather that guy got his amazing looking sword because he has loads of money to throw at a game, or weather he got it by doing something cool in the game.

OP seems to be some sort of a console fanboy, eh?

PC definitely, everything that can be played there i will play it as i don't really care very much for these new generation consoles since i am not all that impressed with their hardware as some others seem to be.

I might pick up one of them eventually but again, PC for me is a superior platform and overall a gaming platform of my primary choice.

This is the biggest issue I'm seeing right now. The whole "hardware" with the new consoles. It's very clear that no one around here will accept the truth. Consoles are a different beast and should not be compared part by part to pc's. It's not the hardware... it's the development and tools and code written specifically for one set of hardware... Not millions of scalable systems.

To drive this point home, I'll say this.. I have seen some pretty impressive games on Xbox and ps3 that didn't look much worse then my PC, which is currently running an Intel i7 and a Radeon 7970. Point is.. it was doing this on 512mb of ram a tri-core processor and a graphics chipset that was years... I mean YEARS behind what I was running. The entire system was 6-7 years behind my hardware, yet the games still looked ridiculously respectable and for a fraction of the money I spent on my pc.

This new hardware in the consoles being what it is, will make for some IMPRESSIVE visuals. Mark my words folks.

I have had a very different experience. Few mods and my PC always looked way better then my console. I find some game developers will get lazy and use the same textures on the PC that they made for the console. Where others do not and really make the PC run the game like it only can on a PC.

Waaaat? Of course if the developers just throw a exact port from a console to pc it will look pretty much the same. The point is if they spend the time and money to actually use the full power of your PC for that game it would look  better, Like  Nanfoodle said, fans make mods that try to actually use your PC and improve Graphics. Look at Skyrim,  the ps3 version of skyrim looks no where near as good as my modded Skyrim. Hell even with just beth's HD texture packs and ultra graphic settings it looks way better. Try running that on a ps3(if it were possible) you would lag like crazy. Development tools and coding can eventually only do so much. Ofc consoles are cheaper, but the advantages of PC make it worth the money, to me at least.

Its definitely not as simple as yes or no..

Of course for the sake of this post: yes.

It's only $29 and for that price, its a steal, even if I only play it for a month.

The real question here is: Was the OP paid to post this post? WILL WE EVER KNOW? lawl.

On a serious side note, I don't think it matters, I love reading forum posts about a game I'm excited about. It doesn't matter if someone was paid to post or not.

I wouldn't doubt it that SOE will pull the trigger and port it to console, especially the other mmo games that will be arriving for PS4. But would I get it for the console if it does comes out? Only if the PS4 console comes with a keyboard and mouse to host EQN :)

I love my Razer Naga and Blackwiddow mouse and keyboard. Cant use gaming peripherals like that with a PS4. Unless sony lets them program an interface for their console but what if you like the logitech gaming peripherals. Then they have to write one as well. Question is will they? So many advantages on the PC.

Amen, after playing the FF14ARR beta on my friends ps3, I found my self literly screaming in frustration. The UI was made probably the best they can for a console, I'm sure. When I went to a group of people saw them all low, and tried to heal them, and guess what? I Couldn't target the right guys and they died. If I had my mouse that wouldn't have even been on my mind.

Sony better bolster its servers if Playstation 4 is going to have a few MMORPGs...

I plan on getting the PS4 as Elder scrolls and Everquest Next are going to be on it

Would rather compete against other players without having to deal with disadvantages due to constant hardware upgrades for PCs and players having any kind of advantage or edge because their gaming rig is much better. Also consider most players who persist in PC gaming are older and yes our time is dawning as we must acknowledge the age of the console gamer is upon us and we must come to terms with this being a reality.

Also, being considered an old timer in comparison to much of the gaming community I have much wisdom and experience to pass on playing MMORPGs and FPSs from the very beginning online when there was only dialup, til present. Consider the next huge MMORPG success will be successfully run over a console and you can bank on that being Playstation 4. Much of the community on a PS4 will be younger generations which need mentoring, support, and balance as the world around us and within us is getting utterly ridiculous in comparison to what old timers refer to as being the good ol days, heh.

The old days of MMORPGs are over and so is the ridiculous timesink, mindless grind, poor graphics, poor MOB AI, heroes, griefers, gankers, themeparks, banks, Fuhrers, Wannabes, being pretty/sexy, nerd rage, etc...and so on

Its high time we realized the future of MMORPGs is all about immersive graphics, dynamic environments, seasonal change, dynamic AI, community, collective, teamwork, sandboxes, economies, cooperation, diplomacy, bartering, trading, exchanging, sharing, and yes caring ;), being accepted for who you are and what you contribute, and being cool :) and so on

So lets all just relax, breathe easy, and learn how to properly work as a team as we bring balance and harmony back to the world of strife and conflict and disharmony and distraction/preoccupation on the next great console of our era:

Sony Playstation 4 :)

What in the world are you smoking? Every MMO I've ever played has had a mindless grind, and all the new ones will have the same mindless grind. They have to put it in there, because its a MMO and it wouldn't do If you completed all the content too fast, so they drag it out. Therefore all mmo content is basically diluted, watered down so that people can not complete it fast. In fact, your whole sentence about "The old days of MMORPGS" is completely wrong. Those things aren't just going to magically go away just because PS4 has a mmo on it... Your post just defies logic. I lol at the ps4.

By the time EQ Next is released, PS4 will be out. This game is going to also be on PS4. (ok not offcially announced, but it will be on there). PLanetside 2 is on PS4, elder scrolls online is on it, FXIV is on it, etc. EQ = sony = on PS4.

Want proof?  Look at that smile, that is pretty much a yes, but they can't announce it yet.

So, will you be able to play this game on your current PC? If so, will you only play on PC?

Will you have to invest in a $1,000+ PC to play it with no problems? Or upgrade your GPU for $400?

Will you spend the $400 and just get the PS4 and then be able to play FFXIV, EQ Next , ELder scrolsl online on there?

Will you play on both so you can enjoy it on your PC but then when you want to relax, also be able to play on couch/bed with PS4?  Also has Smedley talking about the PS4 version. They just don't outright say major stuff about the PS4 version yet. I'm sure they will at the SOE live event and in the near future.

If my PC wasn't a beast already I would rather upgrade my PC to play this game, If I played this game.

Sure you can by a ps4 for only $400, and have a good game library to play, but I have yet to regret the $1600 I spent on my PC. Not only can I play all the MMO's mentioned but I can also play Skyrim with as many mods as I want, Day -Z, WildStar, Emulators, Every Steam game, Witcher 2, or 3, Darksouls 2, Dota 2, all kinds of Indie games. The only games I miss out on are the exclusives. Not to mention, I won't have to deal with all my old games becoming obsoleate because PS4 is not backwards compatable. That and plenty of the ps4 \ Xbone titles will also be relesed for PC. And don't forget if you only have a PS4 you have to deal with all the crappy(in my opinion) social fetures they throw at you, including paying for Internet, and PS4 online. With my PC there are just so many more options as to what I play and how I play it.

Top that off with the fact that PC graphix are definatly going to be better than PS4 graphics, and my PC will last longer.

So yea, I'd have to go with PC here, its worth the bit of extra money to have my own custom gaming experiance.

Graphics are A1. Character creation average. Combat (apart from archer) not so good.

So what's the big attraction? Just my thoughts after 3 beta weekends.

What? I only know of a few games with more character creation options, Combat eh I give you that one its a bit repetitive. Graphics are pretty good, again only know a few mmorpgs(currently out at least) with as good of graphics. I think for my the big attraction is it's a final fantasy mmorpg and I still have fond memory of ff11. Not to mentions I have 3-4 irl friends excited about this game, witch means they rub some of their excitement off on me.  I actually got to play some of the beta this weekend, and I had a lot of fun. The game feels really final fantasy like. and left me with a pretty good feeling for the release. I'll defiantly be buying the game, hell its only $29.00. There's some really crappy games out there with a higher price tag.

I find it silly that you can hate a game for a single race that dose not meet your specific tastes. So what if a game has a race you find horrid? If a game has a city that looks ridiculous are you going to quit it as soon as you walk in that city? What if it has a really bad looking tree? I personally think Lalafell are cool looking. It seems like I run a bit faster and everything seems bigger.

I've played nearly every mmorpg out there, including Wow and FFXI. FFXI has remained my favorite of them all because of the great memories I made while playing. The fact is that we live in a different time now. Games have changed and so have the people that play them, not to mention a wider audience of players.  I don't think dps meters will effect the community of the game as much as you fear, it will all depend on the people you meet. if you meet people who use a dps meter as a way of proving they are better, those kind of people will just find another way to prove themselves.

Final Fantasy as a genre has also changed. I personally would love to experience the same kind of feeling FFXI gave me, I don't think FF14AAR will deliver. It's a completely different game, and will hopefully be love-able in its own way, with or without DPS meters.

Do you work for that site or something? This is a complete scam, and should be reported at the very least. I followed the instructions perfectly. They key didn't work and now some wierd german site has my email. -.-
So true, my first mmo ever ff11 was all about people helping people. Barley anything was solo-able. Although that was kinda hard it also was soo fun. I keep searching for another experiance like it, but probly wont find anything now adays.

I don't know if anybody here has watched any TV lately, but there is a lot worse being shown there.  Things people find perfectly acceptable in a movie or TV show are so tabo on games. Personaly I dont mind Terra Toon s at all. MY wife did say The Elii were pretty exposed, especialy the way they dance on the log in screen. but who knows.

Eh to start off I haven't played it yet but  I'm installing it right now, and its takeing longer to install than skyrim Btw.

What atracted me to the game was the creating a layer and the old-school kinda look to it. Then I saw it was a sub game with the same price as WoW... I don't understand how ppl can pay 15.00 a month for this kind of game... Whats even wierder is nobody seems to think the same way. My question is: is there something im realy missing that makes this game worth the same price a month as wow, or rift, or even Other sandbox mmorpgs with the same kind of concept..?

cant wait for this game!!

It compleatly ruins any immersion I have when I have to see a "buy full game", or "Upgrade to Premium", or "Buy this buy that" all the time. I like trying free games but when i start feeling like the game is begging for my money more than trying to make me like the game I get disgusted and drop the game all together. I wish more free games would actualy try to make me like the game.... then adversise there merchandice as i would be way more pron to spending money on a game I love playing. Anybody else feel like this or am I just going crazy?

As you said "how many of these FTP games are actually free" none are and that's not hard to figure out. Some you can play for free but you might as well gimp yourself from the start. Perhaps more people need to get off their ass and get an income or job. I could never understand how anyone could not afford a monthly sub of $15 or £9 if you are in the uk. If you are not old enough to work then get a paper round or wash the next door nighbours car. Their are countless ways to earn the pathetic monthly sub these company are asking for.

actualy i said nothing about not wanting to actualy pay for a game. I dont mind paying for a good mmo, i payed for wow for 3 years because i loved it so much. It just seems like nowadays every mmo advertises free just to try and scam me out of money for a crappy game. Even though there a few mmo's that would be prety neat and worth paying for but dont seem to have payment option i find worth.
